verbatim: I got into PS when Zarel was handing out beta codes on Smogon. When I joined, PS was a really small community where every user knew each other and things kind of snowballed. I really like the way online sites can enable people to form their own communities, and I work hard to ensure that people can have that same opportunity on PS nowadays.

verbatim: Video Games and Debates and Discussions. Video Games is a great place to find new games, reminisce about old ones, and compete with others. Debates and Discussions's mature atmosphere lets us talk intelligently about things that generally can't be discussed in the Lobby or other rooms.

A metagame where move and ability restrictions are removed, BH has exponentially more potential combinations of teams than any other ladder, giving players a great deal of creativity. If a certain Pokémon is constantly beating your team, you can go out and build a unique perfect counter to that Pokémon.

verbatim: Being a Leader is a multi-faceted job. I am involved in a lot of policy things, such as dealing with promotions (fun) and demotions (not fun), but I also do a lot of back-end work to free time up for developers. For instance, I am one of several Leaders and Admins who takes care of server registration, enabling the development staff to work on improvements to PS.

verbatim: Honestly a lot of that depends on factors that are out of our control. PS is primarily a volunteer organization and we don't have the ability to pay people to ensure that we will DEFINITELY hit a certain goal in a certain amount of time. That being said, we have a great development team and a history of progress. When I first joined PS there was one room, less than 50 people, and only half of Gen V OU was kind of implemented. Since then we've added multi-generational formatting, doubles, rooms, tournaments, and a lot of hidden refactoring stuff that enables the server to be able to support 2000 users without crashing. I'm not sure where exactly we'll be in a few years but I'm definitely excited to find out.

I feel much the same about Smogon. We started from humble beginnings and have prospered through the backbreaking contributions of countless individuals. Anyone who knows Smogon's founder chaos knows that he always has gigantic plans for developing Smogon's future, and I am excited to see where they will take us.
