Black/White Monotype Metagame Primer

Composition

Monotype is an Other Metagame based on OU where all Pokémon on your team must share a common type. Both single- and dual-type Pokémon are allowed. For instance, Keldeo is eligible for both mono-Water and mono-Fighting teams. This metagame is maintained by the Monotype community but does not do tiering. It is a challengeable format on Pokémon Showdown, and you can discuss strategies with friends in the Monotype room on the simulator or in the main thread on the forums.

Play Restrictions

  • All standard OU tier bans and clauses apply, plus:
  • Same Type Clause: Pokémon in a team must share a type.
