Stunky
(Taking this over for HeYsUp.)

Status: Done.

[Overview]

Stunky is one of the most unique Pokemon in Little Cup due to its typing, which grants it STAB on Sucker Punch and Pursuit and great defensive potential. Stunky is built to get rid of Ghost-types, which is greatly appreciated by many Pokémon in Little Cup. Stunky does receive competition from Munchlax, but Munchlax is only used over Stunky if the team needs to cover additional threats other than Ghosts, since Stunky is primarily a Ghost-type destroyer.

As a result of its typing, Stunky has only one weakness, albeit to a commonly used attacking type. Luckily for Stunky, Ground-type attacks are easily avoidable since there are so many Pokémon who are immune to them for it to fall back on, not to mention Stunky's ability to OHKO a good chunk of the Pokémon using them with Sucker Punch, such as Diglett.

If you're having trouble with Ghost-types or in need of a great revenge killer, definitely consider Stunky for a slot on your team.

[SET]

move 2: Sucker Punch
move 3: Explosion
move 4: Fire Blast / Hidden Power Ground
item: Life Orb
nature: Hasty
evs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Stunky can use its high Speed and Attack stats to run an effective Life Orb set. Stunky can also revenge kill quite effectively with Sucker Punch, since with a Life Orb it can OHKO Pokémon such as Mantyke, Chinchou, and Staryu, whom Stunky would otherwise have trouble beating. At first glance, Life Orb Stunky might appear to be an inferior Houndour, since it lacks the sky-high Special Attack stat and Fire-type STAB that Houndour boasts; however, this is not the case, since Stunky has a higher Speed stat and a higher Attack stat. This means Stunky can tie with Pokémon like Anorith and Gastly, as long as they don't have any Speed boosts, and outpace Pokémon such as Carvanha.

Like most Stunky sets, there is a choice between Fire Blast and Hidden Power Ground. If you have a Pokémon like Croagunk who can easily take care of Rock Polish Aron, then Fire Blast is usually the better option in order to hit Bronzor. Fire Blast still 2HKOes Life Orb Aron if Stunky catches it on the switchin. If you want Stunky to trap Ghost-types more effectively, you can throw Pursuit over one of the other attacks, though ideally not over Sucker Punch.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This Stunky set really appreciates Stealth Rock support more than the other sets because it turns many 2HKOs into OHKOs, such as on Staryu, Chinchou, and Mantyke. It also benefits from Pokémon who can remove Choice Scarf Houndour, since it's one of the Pokémon who can actually revenge kill this Stunky set. Diglett—particularly a Choice Scarf variant—will easily trap Houndour and OHKO with Earthquake.

With a Life Orb boost and Fire Blast, Stunky makes a great Bronzor lure. This will benefit Pokémon, such as Gligar and Taillow, who don't function as well when Bronzor is around. Gligar and Taillow also have an easy time switching into Earthquakes that are aimed at Stunky.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Pursuit
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Explosion
move 4: Hidden Power Ground / Fire Blast
item: Choice Scarf
nature: Lonely
evs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Stunky has a relatively high Attack stat and a decent Speed stat, so it's no surprise a Choice Scarf set is effective. The main advantage of running a Choice Scarf set is that Stunky doesn't need to rely on Sucker Punch to revenge kill. Pursuit allows Stunky to trap and KO its usual targets, such as Ghost-types, while also being able to hit them before they can move. This means that Drifloon and Gastly can't stall out Stunky's HP if it has been burned. Crunch gives Stunky a nice reliable STAB attack, as opposed to Sucker Punch, which is fairly easy to play around. Crunch will also catch many foes expecting Sucker Punch off guard. In the case that Gligar gets a Swords Dance or something else goes wrong, Choice Scarf Explosion makes a great revenge killing tool. Hidden Power Ground is for revenge killing Aron and enemy Stunky, though Fire Blast is a viable option to hit Bronzor and Snover.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This Stunky set focuses more on sweeping than the above set, so teammates who remove physically bulky Pokémon, such as Bronzor, Gligar, and Phanpy, are recommended. A mixed Dratini would really help Stunky with these threats, as it has Fire Blast for Bronzor and Surf for Gligar and Phanpy, though it can only hit Gligar on the switch (or with a Choice Scarf).

Stunky will often need to switch out of Pokémon who threaten it with a Ground-type attack, so any Pokémon who resists or is immune to Ground-type attacks will be greatly appreciated. Gastly and Gligar are both immune to Ground-type attacks and are both dangerous when given a turn to set up.

[Team Options]

Stealth Rock is greatly appreciated by Stunky since it breaks the Focus Sashes of Pokémon such as Diglett, whom Sucker Punch would fail to OHKO otherwise. Using Gligar as a Stealth Rock set up Pokémon works well since Gligar is immune to Stunky's only weakness.

Stunky's main niche in the metagame is to remove any Ghost-types from the match. This benefits a number of sweepers greatly. For example, Dratini has a much easier time sweeping with Gastly out of play, since otherwise Gastly can come in and KO Dratini, avoiding ExtremeSpeed because of its immunity to Normal-type attacks. Croagunk greatly benefits from Drifloon being removed, since Drifloon can switch in, burn Croagunk, and set up a Substitute.

Stunky isn't very hard to accommodate on a team because of its lack of weaknesses. Pokémon like Gastly and Gligar are great teammates, as they can switch into Ground-type attacks due to their immunity, and both of them are dangerous if given a free turn to set up. Essentially, any Pokemon who resists or is immune to Ground-type attacks makes for a good teammate.

A cool trick to use when using Stunky is to pair it with Tickle Wynaut. Wynaut can Encore a Pokémon such as Bronzor and use Tickle until Bronzor is at -6 Defense. This means Stunky can switch in and OHKO with Pursuit, giving Taillow an opportunity to sweep.

[Optional Changes]

A Choice Band set could work for the extra power, but then Stunky loses some of its effectiveness against Ghosts who lack Will-O-Wisp, since if Stunky lacks Oran Berry, more offensive Ghosts can 2HKO it. Stunky can use Snatch fairly effectively, as it would take care of the Pokémon relying on Substitute to play around Sucker Punch.

[Counters]

Stunky has a few counters worth mentioning, but many of the Pokémon who can OHKO Stunky will likely be OHKOed by Explosion first. Gligar is probably the best Pokémon to use as a Stunky counter since it outruns Stunky and OHKOes with Earthquake; Gligar also doesn't take much damage from Sucker Punch. Bronzor is arguably more effective since it can set up screens, but it needs to beware of Fire Blast.

Essentially any Pokemon who can outpace and OHKO Stunky who doesn't take much damage from Sucker Punch makes a great revenge killer. Choice Scarf Houndour works quite well because of its resistance to Sucker Punch and ability to OHKO Stunky with Fire Blast.

[SET COMMENTS]

Stunky has one major role in Little Cup, and that's to counter Ghost-types. Stunky can switch into almost any attack from any Ghost-type, survive a couple more, and KO the Ghost with STAB Pursuit. Sometimes Stunky needs to use Sucker Punch if it has taken a couple hits already, and Sucker Punch also helps Stunky function as a decent revenge killer. Once Stunky has done its job it can explode on whatever Pokemon comes in next.

Hidden Power Ground is important on this set in order to stop Aron from setting up, as well as hitting other Stunky, Houndour, and Croagunk. Fire Blast can be used if you don't like being walled by Bronzor.

Stunky works best when paired with Pokemon who benefit from Ghost-types being removed. Pokemon like Croagunk really work well with Stunky, since without Ghost types around it can freely use Fake Out and Vacuum Wave. Zigzagoon and Dratini appreciate when Gastly is removed, since with a Choice Scarf it outruns them both even after +1, and it is immune to their priority moves. Without Gastly around, they will have an easier time sweeping.

Crunch will catch many foes off-guard as well, since they will expect Sucker Punch. An Explosion from a Pokemon with Choice Scarf functions as a great revenge killing tool if something goes wrong, such as letting a Swords Dance Gligar set up. Hidden Power Ground is for revenge killing Aron and enemy Stunky, though Fire Blast is a viable option to hit Bronzor and Snover.

This Stunky set focuses more on sweeping than the above set, so Pokemon that remove the Pokemon that stop Stunky's sweep. Stunky needs help getting rid of Pokemon with high Defense such as Bronzor, Gligar, and Phanpy. A mixed Dratini would really help Stunky with these threats, as it has Fire Blast for Bronzor and Surf for Gligar and Phanpy. (can it afford to switch in?)

Stunky will often need to switch out of Pokemon who threaten it with a Ground-type attack, so any Pokemon who resists or is immune to Ground-type attacks will be greatly appreciated by Stunky. Misdreavus and Gligar are both immune to Ground-type attacks, and both are dangerous when given a turn to set up.

[Other Options]

Stunky can run a decent Life Orb set with Sucker Punch, Fire Blast, Hidden Power Ground and a filler move, but Houndour pulls of that set much more effectively with its far superior Special Attack stat and Fire-type STAB. A Choice Band set could also work for the extra power, but then Stunky loses its effectiveness versus Ghosts without Will-O-Wisp who would 2HKO it without an Oran Berry.

[EVs]

Stunky is one of the easiest Pokemon to EV since you only need a small amount of EVs to get a single point in a stat. On the first set you need to survive a couple of Hidden Power Fightings from Misdreavus, which simply requires 176 HP EVs and 32 Special Defense EVs (only 28 EVs are needed if you opt for Fire Blast). You can then maximize Stunky's Attack stat with 252 EVs, and still invest a point in Speed and Special Attack apiece, since Stunky only needs 4 and 32 EVs respectively for a point.

On the Choice Scarf set, Stunky's Attack and Speed are maximized for optimum sweeping power. The 12 EVs remaining can be put in HP to get one stat point.

Oh, and 'Ghost Counter' sounds slightly cheesy for the first set's name (mind you, I would say that 'Ghostbuster' is even more cheesy, but that's just me). I would call it 'Standard' or something similarly boring. Of course, you'll probably call it 'Ghostbuster' anyway.

Maybe a mention of Snatch in OO, because I see a lot of people trying to play sub mindgames whenever I use Stunky. It also helps with stopping anything from just setting up.

Why isn't there any standard Life Orb set? Stunky reaches a relatively high Speed stat (reaches 18 with 244 Speed EVs), and has a pretty good movepool to work with. The set would probably look like this:

Stunky (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 Atk/244 Spd
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Crunch
- Sucker Punch / Pursuit
- Explosion
- Fire Blast / Hidden Power Ground

Stunky can become a pretty dangerous sweeper with this set, hitting very hard with its STAB Crunch. Below are some damage calculations to show the power Stunky holds.

Crunch vs 21 HP / 11 Def Mantyke: 76.19% - 100.00% - OHKO with Stealth Rock
Crunch vs 24 HP / 10 Def Chinchou: 75.00% - 91.67% - 41% chance to OHKO with Stealth Rock

Sucker Punch vs 21 HP / 10 Def Elekid: 85.71% - 104.76% - 87% chance to OHKO with Stealth Rock
Sucker Punch vs 20 HP / 12 Def Staryu: 80.00% - 95.00% - 46% chance to OHKO with Stealth Rock
Sucker Punch vs 18 HP / 9 Def Diglett: 105.56% - 133.33% - OHKO

Fire Blast vs 25 HP / 16 SpD Bronzor: 64.00% - 80.00% - chance to 2HKO with Oran Berry
Fire Blast vs 23 HP / 12 SpD Paras: 191.30% - 226.09% - OHKO
Fire Blast vs 36 HP / 11 SpD Aron: 50.00% - 59.09% - 2HKO

I understand that Houndour can pull off this kind of set as well, but there are some things that Houndour lacks, which makes Stunky better. The biggest advantage Stunky has is that it reaches a higher Speed stat (also ties with Gastly), which makes it sweep more effectively. Also, Houndour generally never runs max Speed, since it needs to invest in both offenses to deal serious damage. Another selling point Stunky has is obviously Explosion, allowing it to bring down almost any Pokemon with it when it's about to die. Last but not least, it's a decent check to Misdreavus, having a chance to come out on top of it, while Houndour falls under a KO from Hidden Power Fighting.

Anyway, the set can use some reworking if needed. If you really, really think this is OO, then I guess you could forget about this.

I was on the fence about LO for a while, but during every match I either asked myself "Why am I not using Oran Berry? I'm losing to Misdreavus." or "Why am I not using Houndour? Now I'm forced out against / can't KO <Pokemon X>".

However, it is still a viable set as your calculations show, though it does almost the same damage (same "effect", I mean (like OHKOes and 2HKOes) to some of the threats you listed simply with the scarf set (Diglett runs 17 HP, Elekid runs 19 HP, as does Staryu).

I'll be willing to add it, but I want some more opinions on it first. Is it "that" different / have that many advantages over Houndour? Does it do stuff the other sets don't do? Does it outweigh the loss of bulk? Those are just some simple questions I'd have to ask.

I'll probably end up including it, but again I'd rather hear more first.

Stunky isn't very hard to accommodate on a team because of its sole weakness to Ground-type attacks. This means Pokémon like Misdreavus and Gligar are great teammates, as they can switch into Ground-type attacks due to their immunity, and both of them are dangerous if given a free turn to set up. Essentially, anything that resists or is immune to Ground-type attacks makes for a good teammate.

A cool trick to use when using Stunky is to pair it with a Tickle Wynaut. Wynaut can Encore a Pokemon such as Bronzor and use Tickle until Bronzor is -6 Defense. This means Stunky can switch in and OHKO it with Pursuit. This gives Pokemon like Taillow an easy time sweeping.

[Opinion]

It's no surprise Stunky is one of the most common Pokemon in the metagame when it is a nearly flawless check to one of the most dangerous Pokemon, Misdreavus. Stunky is built to get rid of Ghost-types, which is greatly appreciated by many Pokemon in Little Cup. Stunky does receive competition from Munchlax, but essentially Munchlax is only used over Stunky if more than just Ghosts need to be cover, since Stunky is primarily a Ghost-type destroyer.

Stunky also has merely one weakness, albeit to a commonly used attack. Luckily for Stunky, Ground-type attacks are easily avoidable since there are so many Pokemon who are immune to Ground-type attacks, not to mention Stunky's ability to OHKO a good chunk of the Pokemon using Ground-type attacks in the first place with Sucker Punch (such as Diglett).

If you're having Ghost trouble, or are in need for a great revenge killer, definitely consider Stunky for a slot on your team.

[Counters]

Stunky has a few counters worth mentioning, but many of the Pokemon who can OHKO Stunky will likely be OHKOed by Explosion first. Gligar is probably the best Pokemon to use as a Stunky counter since it outruns Stunky and OHKOes with Earthquake. Gligar also doesn't take much damage from Sucker Punch. Bronzor is arguably more effective since it can set up screens, but it needs to beware of Fire Blast.

Essentially anything that can outpace and OHKO Stunky that doesn't take much damage from Sucker Punch makes a great revenge killer. Choice Scarf Houndour works quite well because of its resistance to Sucker Punch and ability to OHKO Stunky with Fire Blast.

Good analysis :)

The only things that stood out was that you always left out the accent in "Pokémon," which needs to be fixed everywhere (and I probably missed some cases in my check).

Actually, Darkmalice, the accented e isn't mandated by neither the grammar standards thread nor the on-site article; just thought I'd throw that out there before people go crazy trying to fix their analyses. =P

EDIT: I believe you're correct, whistle; the SCMS bot is constantly fixing them.

Actually, the SCMS bot has been down for some time. Several people are looking into fixing it, but for now the "é" is at least strongly preferred (and easy to change with Notepad's find and replace).

My computer sometimes screws up when i try to copy and paste, I fixed that though. I also added é's everywhere...

I think rite now in this metagame, life orb should easily be the first set. crunch/sucker punch/hp ground or fire blast/and boom. it really is a great set and now that missy is gone, the ghost trapper loses a lot of viability.

Yeah, I agree with Towelie. LO Stunky was the focus of my RMT with EM, and it really beats out the Ghost-counter set. It beats Gastly anyways by tying with Sub sets and not taking much from Scarf sets. A STAB Crunch and Sucker Punch are incredibly useful. The Ghost-Counter set lacks a reliable STAB attack, and so I think that the order should be Life Orb/Choice Scarf. IMO, I'm not even sure if Ghost-Counter even warrants a set anymore.

[Overview]

Stunky is one of the most unique Pokemon in Little Cup due to its typing, which grants it STAB Sucker Punch, Pursuit, and its great defensive typing ability. Stunky is built to get rid of Ghost-types, which is greatly appreciated by many Pokémon in Little Cup. Stunky does receive competition from Munchlax, but essentially Munchlax is only used over Stunky if more than just Ghosts need to be cover covered, since Stunky is primarily a Ghost-type destroyer (yeah you just said that... quite a lot of this paragraph is quite redundant really).

As a result of its typing, Stunky also has merely only one weakness, albeit to a commonly used attack. Luckily for Stunky, Ground-type attacks are easily avoidable since there are so many Pokémon who are immune to Ground-type attacks them for you to fall back on, not to mention Stunky's ability to OHKO a good chunk of the Pokémon using Ground-type attacks in the first place them with Sucker Punch, (such as Diglett).

If you're having Ghost trouble, or are in need for of a great revenge killer, definitely consider Stunky for a slot on your team.

[SET COMMENTS]

Stunky can use its high Speed and Attack stats to run an effective Life Orb sweeper set. With a Life Orb, Stunky can also revenge kill quite effectively with Sucker Punch, since with a Life Orb it now OHKOes can OHKO Pokémon such as Mantyke, Chinchou, and Staryu, who whom Stunky would otherwise have trouble beating. At first glance, Life Orb Stunky might appear to be an inferior Houndour since it lacks the sky-high Special Attack stat and Fire-type STAB; , however, this is not the case, . since Stunky has a higher Speed stat and a higher Attack stat. This means Stunky can tie with Pokémon like Anorith and Gastly as long as they don't have any Speed boosts, and outpace Pokémon such as Carvanha. With the added power of Life Orb, Stunky will also fair fare better against the odd Will-O-Wisp Misdreavus (HELP HELP MISDREAVUS ALERT).

Like most Stunky sets, there is a choice between Fire Blast and Hidden Power Ground. If you have a Pokémon such as Croagunk who can easily take care of Rock Polish Aron, then Fire Blast is usually the better option to hit Bronzor. Fire Blast also still 2HKOes Life Orb Aron if it switches in. If you want to trap Ghosts more effectively, you can throw Pursuit on over one of the other attacks, though ideally not over Sucker Punch.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This Stunky set really appreciates Stealth Rock support more than the other sets because it turns many 2HKOes 2HKOs into OHKOes OHKOs, such as on Staryu, Chinchou, and Mantyke. It also benefits from Pokémon who can remove Choice Scarf Houndour, since it's one of the Pokémon who can actually revenge kill this Stunky set. Diglett—particularly a Choice Scarf variant—will easily trap Houndour and OHKO with Earthquake, while Stunky can remove Misdreavus (HELP HELP MISDREAVUS ALERT) when it comes in to set up on Diglett.

With a Life Orb boost and Fire Blast, Stunky makes a great Bronzor lure. This will benefit Pokémon such as Gligar and Taillow who don't function as well when Bronzor is around. Gligar and Taillow also have an easily easy time switching into Earthquakes that are aimed at Stunky.

[SET]

move 4: Hidden Power Ground / Fire Blast

[SET COMMENTS]

Stunky has a relatively high Attack stat and a decent Speed stat, so it's no surprise a Choice Scarf set is effective. The main advantage of running a Choice Scarf set is that you don't need to rely on Sucker Punch to revenge kill. Pursuit allows Stunky to trap and KO its usual targets, such as Ghost-types, while also being able to hit them before they can move. This means that Drifloon and Gastly can't stall out Stunky's HP if it has been burnt. Crunch gives Stunky a nice reliable STAB attack, as opposed to Sucker Punch which is fairly easy to play around.

This Stunky set focuses more on sweeping than the above set, so teammates that remove physically bulky Pokémon, such as Bronzor, Gligar, and Phanpy, are recommended. A mixed Dratini would really help Stunky with these threats, as it has Fire Blast for Bronzor and Surf for Gligar and Phanpy, though it can only hit Gligar on the switch (or with a Choice Scarf). A defensive Misdreavus (HELP HELP MISDREAVUS ALERT) helps with Gligar and Phanpy as well.

Stunky will often need to switch out of Pokémon who threaten it with a Ground-type attack, so any Pokémon who resists or is immune to Ground-type attacks will be greatly appreciated by Stunky. Gastly and Gligar are both immune to Ground-type attacks and both are dangerous when given a turn to set up.

[Team Options]

Stealth Rock is greatly appreciated by Stunky since it breaks the Focus Sashes of Pokémon such as Diglett, who whom Sucker Punch would fail to OHKO otherwise. Using Gligar as a Stealth Rock set up Pokémon works well with Stunky, since Gligar is immune to Stunky's only weakness.

Stunky's main niche in the metagame is to remove any Ghost-types from the match. This benefits a number of sweepers greatly. For example, Dratini has a much easier time sweeping with Gastly out of play, since otherwise Gastly can come in and KO Dratini, avoiding ExtremeSpeed because of the Ghost-type's immunity to Normal-type attacks. Croagunk greatly benefits from Drifloon being removed, since it can switch in, burn Croagunk, and set up a Substitute.

[Optional Changes]

A Choice Band set could work for the extra power, but then Stunky loses some of its effectiveness versus against Ghosts without Will-O-Wisp, since if Stunky lacks Oran Berry, more offensive Ghosts can 2HKO it who would 2HKO it without an Oran Berry. Stunky can use Snatch fairly effectively, as it would take care of the Pokémon relying on Substitute to play around Sucker Punch.

(OC goes after Team Options)
