GoodVibes808 WOW. I've been slow clapping through all of your nicknames! You even inspire me to try harder as well! Thank you ^_^
But first... another pervy reply (´・ω・`)
What about '
TentaPr0n'? Pr0n is commonly used to evade filters, and it actually sound sorta cool in this combination ('pr0n' rhymes with 'mon' from 'pocket monster'). But perhaps not for a Malamar... I will personally nickname my Tentacruel this.
----
Okay, now cue my serious nicknames! (and a few silly ones)
KANTO
Venusaur: Florence
Charizard-Y: Ignio -- (Latin for 'to ignite')
Charizard-X: Spitfire -- (This may have appeared somewhere else in the thread already? I don't remember...)
Beedrill: Sting -- (Better than Tentacool now, especially because Beedrill can mega evolve. Gotta have a Mega-Sting by my side)
Pidgeot: Zephyr -- (English Literary word for a gentle fresh breeze of air, reminding me of its reliability and its availability. My first game was SoulSilver, and New Bark Town reminds me of this as well. The first gym is also Violet City Gym's Flying-type Gym. It just feels like a fresh start to me, and Pidgeot symbolizes this all.)
Rattata: Remy -- (The rat from Rattatoille)
Raticate: Campy Bara -- (-cough- please do NOT Google 'bara' at work. It's also a pun on Capybara, the largest rodent in the world (´・ω・`) hehe)
Fearow: Harpy -- (Greek Mythology, a female monster which resembles a bird with a human face)
Vulpix & Ninetales: Vixen -- (Female fox, also a spirited or quarrelsome women, which reminds me of the grudges Ninetales hold)
Parasect: Zombie -- (Parasect is being controlled by the mushroom on its back)
Persian: Bastet -- (Egyptian Feline Goddess)
Psyduck: Platvoet -- (Dutch for 'flat-foot', which is what the name Platypus literally means)
Primeape: Mad Max -- (... I actually haven't seen the movie yet, but this was too good to pass up on, so I've just noted it down to be nicknamed after I have seen the movie. Besides Primeape looks sort of like a mad Max anyway, right?)
Poliwhirl: Kaeru -- (Japanese romaji for 'Frog', if I'm not mistaken. Simple, but at least it improves my Japanese from 'kawaii desu'-level to... to 0,001% of actual common words. In Romaji. Okay, it's a sad excuse. But I like it so... Yay!)
Alakazam: Merlin -- (Wizard in Arthurian Legends)
Tentacruel: Kraken -- (Obvious reference to the mythical Norse sea monster. Has this reference been made already? I don't remember, but it seems so obvious I doubt it hasn't. I will catch another Tentacruel and nickname it TentaPr0n, because of reasons specified above)
Farfetch'd: Raravian -- (YES! A chance to explain my weird nickname on forums! ^_^ Raravian is a name I have created based on 'Rara Avis'. It's basically a weird bird, or a one of a kind or odd person. 'Avis' was turned into 'Avian', and the last 'a' in 'Rara' was fitted to be the same of 'a' as the first from 'Avian')
Gengar: Morpheus (God of Dreams, and having the ability to mimic forms of others. Because Gengar has access to the moves Hypnosis and Dream Eater and acts like a doppelgänger, I thought it was fitting)
Exegguttor: Coconutcase -- (A combination of the words 'Coconut' and 'Nutcase')
Marowak: Bruce Wayne -- (... Okay, yes, it's weird to take Batman's real name and put it on something other than a bat, but if you think about it, Marowak is wearing the skull of its deceased parent as a mask. Nothing more like Bruce Wayne than that, I think, with him being the most prominent orphan who puts on a mask when fighting crime)
Jynx: Succubus -- (Mythical female creature that is said to have sex with men in their sleep)
Gyarados: Medusa -- (Greek Mythology, a Gorgon, female monster with snakes as hair. Vicious and full of hatred)
Lapras: Siren -- (Greek Mythology, she lures sailors with her beauty and
Perish Song for them to shipwreck on the rocky coast)
Mew: Bowie -- ("There's a Starmaaaaaaan waiting in the sky" ♪ ♪ ♪ ... He's a legendary musician! Unlike any other, and he has been a major influence on many. If only I even had a Mew ... ಥ⌣ಥ)
JOHTO
Typhlosion: Pyro -- (Obvious? Ok. But it sounds so cool!)
Crobat: Sanguini -- (Referring to Sanguis, meaning Blood in Latin. Also the name of a vampire HP character, but I didn't remember that before. I think it is a cool name)
Xatu: Thoth -- (Egyptian God of Knowledge, who has the head of an Ibis)
Azumarill: Bubblegum -- (The Water/Fairy-type colours remind me of that pink bubblegum I chewed on when I was a kid! ^_^)
Politoed: Kermit -- (Obvious reference to the Muppets)
Jumpluff: Shu -- (Egyptian God of Wind and Air. Did you know that Shu was created by Atum, the God of Creation, while he was masturbating? Initially, he created two deities: Sia, deity of Perception, and Hu, personification of 'creative utterance'. But this was very ancient Egyptian mythology, and later they merged to become Shu, who is much better known. Shu is also the God of Emptiness. I find this amusing, and fitting, given the circumstances. For Jumpluff too, being light enough to be carried around by the wind currents. The more you know (´・ω・`) !)
Espeon: Eos -- (Greek Goddess of the Dawn)
Umbreon: Selene -- (Greek Goddess of the Moon)
Murkrow: Kaito -- (Referring to Kuroba Kaito from Detective Conan. Kuroba literally means 'Black Feather' in Japanese, if I'm not mistaken. Given Murkrow's black feathers, and both Murkrow's and Honchkrow's likeliness to wear a monocle, I think it is fitting)
Wobbuffet: Boppoyama -- (Move outta the way, Blissey! Wobbuffet is a much better boxing ball than you are!
Now let's hope it does not use Counter or Mirror Coat)
Girafarig: Camelopard -- (Late Middle English for Giraffe. This word basically consists of the words 'Camel', and 'Leopard', which they thought resembled the Giraffe when they saw it for the first time)
Steelix: Jason Todd -- (While I was at it with the Batfam nicknames, I named Steelix after Jason Todd. Why? Because Steelix became hard as diamond by spending so much time deep underneath the ground. Jason Todd is a tough guy, having become very bitter and earnest after having been killed by the Joker and buried for a long time, only to be revived and see the Joker is still alive)
Delibird: Nicholas -- (While Santa Claus is fabricated by Coca Cola, he is actually based on real life historical figure Saint Nicholas)
Tyranitar: Gojira -- (Because Godzilla was too obvious, I turned it into its Japanese name. Godzilla was Gojira first, after all)
HOENN
Blaziken: Mulciber -- (Latin word for 'Fire' and also another name for the Roman God of Fire and Metal-working 'Vulcan'. Now that I'm writing this, perhaps it would have been more fitting for a Heatran? But I just like it for Blaziken)
Swampert: Atlantis -- (Atlantis is a Mythical continent that sank to the bottom of the ocean)
Lotad: Nymphaea -- (Lotus Genus, I prefer it on female Lotad)
Ludicolo: Nelumbo -- (Another Lotus Genus, but I like this one better for males)
Shiftry: Pinocchio -- (The boy made out of wood that wanted to be real, and whose nose grew when telling a lie)
Wingull: FedEx -- (´・ω・`)
Gardevoir: Eve -- (Biblical)
// or
// Gwenevere -- (Arthurian Legend)
Gallade: Adam -- (Biblical)
// or
// Galahad -- (Arthurian Legend)
Slaking: Sasquatch -- (This is the Anglicized form of a Halkomenem word, and was used to refer to 'Bigfoot')
Sableye: Tisiphone -- (I don't remember if I explained this one before, but Tisiphone is one of the Furies in Greek Mythology. She avenged murder. Sableye is one of the Pokemon that naturally learns the move Punishment, and Dark-type feels fitting for this fury. Personally, I picked the name mostly because it sort of 'clicked' when I saw my female Sableye for the first time)
Mawile: Iron Maiden -- (The Medieval Metal Torture Device with spikes on the inside. Also, Mawile looks like a lady to me)
Meditite: Hakutaku -- (A character from the manga Hoozuki no Reitetsu. I think Meditite's typing is much like Hakutaku, Psychic/Fighting-type fits him well. I also think Meditite's head looks like an upside down peach)
Plusle: Emmet -- (Battle Subway Master)
Minun: Ingo -- (Battle Subway Master)
Volbeat: Seita -- (Main character from the Studio Ghibli movie Grave of the Fireflies)
Illumise: Setsuko -- (Little sister of Seita from Grave of the Fireflies)
Sharpedo: Vandal -- (Canvanha was the Savage Pokemon, and both it and Sharpedo vandalize property with their Rough Skin)
Cacnea & Cacturne: Prickly Pear -- (Based on the Facebook stickers by Jayde Fish)
Altaria: Orpheus -- (Greek Mythology, a legendary musician and poet) // or
// Nightwing -- (Because when we've nicknamed two members of the Batfam, we might as well add the very first Robin too. I doubt 'Dick Grayson' will make it through the sensors, so Nightwing seems more appropriate)
Zangoose: Snake Eater -- (Metal Gear Solid)
Seviper: Solid Snake -- (Metal Gear Solid)
Cradily: Anemone -- (Referring to the coral with the polyps)
Castform: BoB -- (#sorrynotsorry)
Kecleon: Wally -- (Where is he anyway?)
Banette: Tailor -- (Clothing maker)
Chimecho: Nozomi -- (Japanese for 'Hope' or 'Wish' if I am not mistaken)
Rayquaza: Ouroboros -- (Infinity dragon snake. I feel like this has been noted by someone else already, but cannot actually remember)
// or
// Basilisk -- (Magical Creature, most commonly associated with the Harry Potter books, guarding the Chamber of Secrets. Danger Class: Five Stars. DO NOT ENGAGE
Rayquaza... will you... ohGod... will you marry me?)
SINNOH
Empoleon: Tux -- (I've already noted this one before, but in case nobody got it, it's Linux's mascot)
Staraptor: Horus -- (Egyptian God of Sky and Kingship. Also has the head of a falcon. So majestic)
Bibarel: Ottawa -- (Canada)
Kricketune: DeleDeleWoop -- (After seeing someone spelling out the sound it makes somewhere around here, I just
had to nickname it that. It is awesome)
Pachirisu: Aquerne -- (Middle English for Squirrel, and phonetically resembling the Dutch word for Squirrel, which is 'Eekhoorn')
Cherubi: Momoiro -- (The colour 'Pink' in Japanese, I think)
Cherrim: Sakura -- (Cherry Blossom, Japanese symbol of cultural significance)
Garchomp: Seth -- (Egyptian God of Storms, the Desert, Chaos and War)
Lucario: Tim Drake -- (Almost completed the Batfam. Tim Drake just reminds me of this Pokemon. He's sort of a nerd, which I associate with Steel-type, and also a fighter, being very persistent)
// or
// Arthur -- (King Arthur himself, another person that I associate with the Fighting/Steel-type. Though King Arthur... Maybe more like a Mega-Lucario?)
Toxicroak: Hoozuki -- (Obviously I nicknamed Hoozuki before I even got the idea of nicknaming his nemesis Hakutaku. I think Hoozuki fits the Poison/Fighting-type very well, being a cold sadistic demon and all. Toxicroak also has what looks to be a spike sticking up from its head, which reminds me of Hoozuki's horn)
Abomasnow: Yeti -- (Because Yeti.)
Porygon-Z: ERROR_474 -- (heavily inspired by one of the first posts in this thread. 474 is Porygon-Z's National Pokédex number. There is an underscore between ERROR and 474)
Froslass: Lilith -- (Biblical reference to a woman who was created at the same time as Adam, but refused to serve him and later became a 'monster' according to the Biblical stories)
Rotom: Poltergeist -- (I can really imagine this little one making all kinds of noises in your kitchen. An Electric Ghost trying to surprise you and your partner with cake on your anniversary. Shhh don't tell!)
UNOVA
Serperior: Sylvian -- (Silva means 'Woods' or 'Forest' in Latin, and Sylvan refers to a relation with the woodland. Sylvian is a musician whose music I grew up with. He's the lead singer in the band Japan of which I posted the Nightporter song before. It's a little weird their band was called Japan even though they are British, but oh well. Oh well, at least actual Japanese don't refer to themselves as Japanese when speaking in their actual language. Anyway, Sylvian has this sort of smug or arrogant look to him, and this characteristic may or may not have been the reason the band broke up after a while. In combination with the 'Sylvan' word root, it seems very fitting for Serperior)
// or
// Eden -- (Garden of Eden. Has this been called yet? I feel like it has been called damnit, all the beautiful names before me got stuck in my head! Not that I mind, but in cases like not knowing whether you're being original or not it's annoying)
// or
// Percival -- (This one isn't mine but from a nuzlocke webcomic I used to read. It's also a character in Arthurian Legend, so that completes the set a bit more ^_^)
Zebstrika: Xanthippe -- (This is the name of Socrates' wife. She is said to have been a difficult women to get along with, with a very argumentative spirit. I'm gonna quote wikipedia on this: [An unconfirmed anecdote purports that once Xanthippe was so enraged with her husband, that she took a chamber pot and poured it out over Socrates' head, which – goes the tale on – the philosopher accepted with the allegory: "After thunder comes the rain."] Also, Xanthippe literally means 'yellow horse', which is also applicable to Zebstrika)
Palpitoad: Swikee -- (Chinese/Indonesian frog leg soup)
Seismitoad: Trevor -- (Neville Longbottom's toad)
Crustle: Solorange -- (I'm playing through a French version of White 2, because it doesn't have a region lock and I want to RNG masuda Ditto for myself. Other than naming my avenue 'Baguette' and making all the people say 'Oui!' and 'Honhonhon!', I have actually put some thought into this name. Okay, it may not really be as French as I wanted it to be but I'm content. Crustle lives a solitary life, hence 'solo'. 'Orange' refers to its colour. I only realized that it is the same in English when I was further into the game, but I'm still trying to pronounce it very French-ly)
Sawsbuck: Bambi -- (Disney character)
Escavalier: Lancelot -- (Arthurian Legend again! I have nicknamed most of the characters I know, I think? Oh, wait no. There is one more, though it's not really a 'character')
Ferroseed: Bullet
Chandelure: Lumière -- (Beauty and the Beast character)
Druddigon: Manticore -- (Literally means 'Maneater', and though Druddigon does not look like the Mythical Manticore, it's the Pokemon that I deem most prone to eat humans)
Golurk: The BFG -- (The Big Friendly Giant, a book by Roald Dahl)
Volcarona: Hathor -- (Egyptian Goddess of Sky, Motherhood, Fertility, and more. She wears the symbol of a Sun Disk on her head, and is the daughter and wife of Ra, the God of the Sun)
Zekrom: Blitzkrieg -- (I doubt this one
hasn't been called already. But it is so fitting!)
KALOS
Chesnaught: Avalon -- (Yes! That's where I started with the Arthurian theme. I have been listening to Roxy Music's album Avalon a lot lately, and this Pokemon was most fitting. Avalon is the legendary place where Arthur travelled when he needed to recover. From what I have read about it, it feels like sort of a safe and pleasant place where you can rest up and regain strength. Because of the safety and peaceful feeling I'm getting, I'm immediately thinking of our Grass/Fighting-type Knight-inspired Defensive Final-Stage Starter! It fits well I think ^_^)
Greninja: Kikker -- (Dutch for 'Frog', and also the main character of a Dutch book series that I grew up reading from)
// or
// Amphinobi -- (It's just its French name, but I think it sounds really cool *_*)
Talonflame: Ra -- (Egyptian God of the Sun, possibly the most prominent, important and well known God in Egyptian Mythology, with the head of a falcon)
Pyroar: Willem -- (Our Dutch king is called Willem. Now, I'm not a nationalist, but it's impossible for me
not to associate lions with our king and his family)
Floette: PushingDaisy -- (Now this is quite a story again, I don't really know how well known the proverb 'pushing daisies' is in English, and I personally only found out recently through an OxfordDicionaries article. It refers to the dead and the state of being dead, with 'pushing daisies' evoking the images of someone who has been buried and is looking at the daisies on their grave from below. Now we know that Kalos and Floette go way back, and that the legends have all things to do with life and death. AZ's Floette died in the Kalos War, but was brought back to life. Afterwards however, it left him. This whole story has a grieving nature to it. Combined with the fact that Floette is a flower Pokemon and sort of resembles a daisy, I think this name is very fitting. Unfortunately, the character limit does not allow me to put a space between Pushing and Daisy, but I think it's great like this as well)
Pancham: Damian -- (Last of the Batfam names! To me, there's no need to even go into detail as to why Damian is a Pancham. Just look at him. That's Pancham written all over his face!)
Honedge: Arya -- (Stark, from Game of Thrones)
// or
// Joan of Arc -- (Historical figure)
Spritzee: Dior -- (Perfume brand)
// or
// Chanel -- (Another perfume brand)
Swirlix: Marshmallow -- (It looks puffy and squishy just like a marshmallow!)
Hawlucha: Tango -- (Because that dance originates from Spanish speaking countries, same as for the Luchador fighters where Hawlucha is based on. Now every time it faints I can yell 'TANGO DOWN!' in my most epic voice :D)
Goodra: Durex -- (hehehhehee...)
Klefki: Saint Peter -- (Biblical character, is said to be in the possession of the keys of the gate to heaven)
Trevenant: Gyokuro -- (It's the name of the very nice tea I've bought a while ago which is from Japan. It's the most luxurious tea I can afford, and it sort of means 'Imperial Black'. I love it)
// or
// Rooibos -- (If it's a shiny Trevenant. Rooibos is a kind of South African tea, very warm tea with a red hue. Rooibos literally means 'Red Forest')
Gourgeist: Calabaza -- (It looks like that kind of pumpkin)
Wow! That's more than I thought! *_*
Thanks for reading, if you did.
Edit: Just a question, should I put this in /hide/ tags?
