What about Unaware Psych Up Clefable as a counter? It can copy the Inconsistent user's stat ups and not have to worry about taking a +6 attack or taking down +6 defenses. Hitting a +6 evasive Pokemon would be a problem though, but then again, you're copying that boost too.

Why do people keep suggesting things like this? If it's not also useful against teams without Inconsistent, it's not a good counter.

I apologise if this has already been mentioned, because I couldn't read 24 pages just to check. People keep talking about there being no counter to inconsistent other than very specialised counters, but I would say there is one fairly surefire counter to Inconsistent, and that's No Guard Machamp.

Seriously, he's a complete bugger to take down. If I can't Spore him, or if don't switch out, my Glalie or Octillery is going to go down. I'm sure it would be even easier to take down Bibarel with Dynamicpunch.

Of course, you could run Psychic on Octillery but that leaves you with severe moveslot syndrome and is very specialised. Of course, if you have enough boosts and a Sub, Machamp will lose but if you have enough boosts the same goes for anything. You can try to PP stall since Stone Edge and Dynamicpunch have low PP, but Payback still breaks your Sub.

It's the best counter I've encountered, and its packaged in one currently OU pokemon who has mainy uses outside dealing with this particular threat. Perish Song would be my second choice for countering Inconsistent btw.

I should also mention that Hail is really useful for supporting Inconsistent teams. It negates lefties recovering, aids Protect and Sub stalling, you still gain health with Ingrain or Aqua Ring, and Glalie is immune to it. Add Toxic Spikes support (and Toxic Spikes absorption capabilities) and you've got a tough nut to crack.

Because simply Inconsistent is random and if Octillery got a special attack boost (or multiple defensive boosts), Machamp isn't going to help at all as +2 Surf pretty much kills him (any damage and it will). The problem with Inconsistent is that it's...Inconsistent and makes any potential counters to it only maybe useful and completely dependent on the roll of a die pretty much. If it comes up with the necessary boost then it's counters can be horribly maimed or murdered beyond hope and then finish the opponent off. And even when it isn't as threatening, it is still a loose cannon that when you're losing, there really isn't much of anything to loose by using and could turn it all around because you couldn't really lose worse than you already were (if you're in that situation).

But then it's a very good thing Inconsistent was banned (amazingly, not unanimous although Shaymin-S was. Not that Shaymin-S wasn't a monster but really...) so there is no more issue.

i sincerely doubt it. inconsistent single-handedly infuriated practically every single player on smogon. consider it the ability equivalent of shaymin-s. unless the mechanic changes to only add a +1 boost as opposed to a +2, i don't foresee smogon regretting banning inconsistent. even if the mechanic changes to only add a +1 boost, a +1 boost in evasion is still massively annoying, especially when you consider that potential boosts in other stats can also be stacked.

Just as a note currently the number 9 ranked team in DW ubers is based around inconsistent mons, even some of the top teams can't beat this because to prepare against it you lose out against various other threats. It really has to be banned completly (as I think it will be).

If Octillery/Glalie/Bibarel is at 100% when Machamp switches in, you're gonna run out of Dynamicpunch PP. Protect/Sub 4 times each and the Pokemon in question will be at 43.75% after Machamp exhausts Dynamicpunch PP. If you predict correctly and use Dynamicpunch every other turn, you only have a 50% chance of beating it. Even if you find some way to get around that, here are some calcs, assuming 252+ Machamp DynamicPunch v 252/252+ Octillery w/ Lefties:
+0 Defense: 186 - 220 (52.54% - 62.15%) | 98.62% to 2HKO
+1 Defense: 126 - 148 (35.59% - 41.81%) | 75.48% to 2HKO with Spikes (3) or SR + Spikes (1)
+2 Defense: 93 - 111 (26.27% - 31.36%) | Guaranteed to break Substitute.
+3 Defense: 76 - 90 (21.47% - 25.42%) | 7.69% to break Substitute
+4 Defense: 63 - 75 (17.80% - 21.19%) | 0% to OHKO Sub, 100% to 2HKO Sub
+5 Defense: 54 - 64 (15.25% - 18.08%) | 0% to OHKO Sub, 100% to 2HKO Sub
+6 Defense: 48 - 57 (13.56% - 16.10%) | 0% to OHKO Sub, 100% to 2HKO Sub

+5 and +6 Defense calcs are no different than +4, as this clearly shows. If Octillery has +1 speed when Machamp comes in (pretty likely), it can proceed to alternate between Substitute and Protect until it gets to around +3 Defense, which is when it can start attacking your Machamp with Boil Over, which can do anywhere from 26.77 - 124.41% depending on the boosts it gets (assuming no negatives), which is a pretty likely 4HKO. I don't think Machamp is too good of a counter for Octillery, especially after you consider Boil Over's 30% Burn rate and the fact that Octillery could just switch to something like a Burungeru and Will-O-Wisp/Toxic you there.

Basically, Machamp may be able to force something like Octillery out once, but after that, Octillery has the upper hand.

If his Octillery had flamethrower I would've lost so easily. If I lost my Moro it would be gg. The lucky part was that no evasion boosts happened after I switched in Toxicroak.

Just got back from a couple of battles with some idiot running inconsistent. On the first match, he managed to sweep my entire team with octillery/bibarel. On the second match though(not intentional, I accidentally laddered him again -_-") I got my Trace Pory2 out to troll his ass backwards, ending the match with his Bibarel commiting suicide on Nattorei.

Inconsistent just turns the game into a diceroll unfortunately, and should be just outright banned, like LC Berry Juice.

Does trace copy boosts too? If so then Porygon2 might actually be able to stop Inconsistent Pokemon, at least for a while, due to its massive defenses with Evo Stone and reliable recovery move.
