This movie looks insane and creepy. Escape from Tomorrow opened in Sundance to really good reviews. It was shot in guerilla style at Disney World, but it looks really, really well done for a guerilla film. They had to shoot guerilla since they didn't get permission to shoot there. It's somehow getting a theater distribution, since, for some odd reason, Disney hasn't made any attempt to sue the filmmakers, but they have said they're "aware" of it. I'm pretty excited! (Sorry, for the low quality, but I couldn't find it on other player that I could play on the thread, just google it and there will be clear versions on tons of movie websites)

OK, decided to do one last round of Oscar Predictions right before the New York Film Festival. As you may know, Foxcatcher has been pushed to 2014, so it's now no longer eligible. Also, there is a rather large chance Wolf of Wall Street may be pushed back to 2014, and if it is, there is also a large chance the studio cut will be pretty bad, so I only have it in the Best Picture race for now. Okay, since it's Halloween week can I have ultimate Horror movie suggestions?
I used to deride the genre as a whole having found the Saw series and the likes to be more hilarious instead of scary, by after watching The Conjuring I'm more open to the possibilities offered by this genre.
So any absolute-must watches/shit-yo-pants that are out there? General rule of thumb is the quality should be like The Conjuring's.

I've heard so many good things about The Conjuring but have yet to see it. It's on my to-do list now.

As for good horror films, I highly recommend [REC]. It's a Spanish horror film (later remade into the American film Quarantine, which was far worse). The atmosphere is incredible and the scares are excellent all-around.

if you liked the conjuring then just watch literally any other movie with "hey we're a family moving into a house oh woops looks like someone died here and now it's haunted" as the plot. it's the exact same thing, although the conjuring is a little bit better

REC is hella good.

Prisoners was one of the best movies in theaters this year and can't wait to see Rush as well. Heard Don Jon was a bit of a let down though.

The Evil Dead movies with Bruce Campbell are some of the finest horror movies to have existed.

Also, Pan's Labyrinth is an amazing horror film from what I've heard.

Glen Nice to hear that you liked it so much. I didn't like it as much as you did, but I still think it's a pretty solid piece of cinema. I have two questions: What do you think about The Tree of Life and The Fountain? I really love Tree of Life (favorite movie ever) and I thought the Fountain was OK. (B-)

Sorry for the double post, but this was too important to wait for someone else to post: Quentin Tarantino's favorite films of 2013 so far:

  • Afternoon Delight (dir. Jill Soloway)
  • Before Midnight (dir. Richard Linklater)
  • Blue Jasmine (dir. Woody Allen)
  • The Conjuring (dir. James Wan)
  • Drinking Buddies (dir. Joe Swanberg)
  • Frances Ha (dir. Noah Baumbach)
  • Gravity (dir. Alfonso Cuarón)
  • Kick-Ass 2 (dir. Jeff Wadlow)
  • The Lone Ranger (dir. Gore Verbinski)
  • This is the End (dirs. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg)
from the site Rope of Silicon.

So, what do you think? It's pretty normal IMO, except for the inclusion of KA2 and the Lone Ranger. Although, I'm not surprised since we're talking about Tarantino here.
