LC Numel

QC (4/4) Obvious Power/The Avalanches/Rowan
GP (2/2) Winry./ P Squared

Overview
#######

Numel is a unique Pokemon in the current LC metagame, sporting two great abilities in Oblivious
and Simple. Oblivious lets Numel reliably set up Stealth Rock throughout the game, while Simple makes Numel a deadly sweeper, allowing it to quickly boost its stats and power, which is complemented by Numel's great offensive coverage. Numel's unique defensive typing makes it a great switch-in for many Poison-, Grass-, Steel-, Electric-, and Fire-types. Numel does suffer from a few flaws, however, such as its low Speed, lack of reliable recovery, and inability to win against entry hazard removers.

Defensive
#######
name: Defensive
move 1: Earth Power
move 2: Lava Plume / Fire Blast
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Ancient Power / Will-O-Wisp
ability: Oblivious / Simple
item: Eviolite
evs: 36 HP / 36 Def / 236 SpA / 156 SpD
nature: Calm

Moves
======

Lava Plume and Earth Power function as Numel's STAB moves and allow it to threaten Grass-, Electric-, and Steel-types. Lava Plume has higher PP and a high chance to burn the opposing Pokemon, while Fire Blast can be used for additional power at the cost of accuracy. Numel can chip away at opposing Pokemon's health and potentially break their Focus Sash by setting up Stealth Rock. Ancient Power hits Archen and Mantyke, which resist Numel's STAB attacks, while Will-O-Wisp allows Numel to handle physical attackers more consistently and wear down opposing walls and switch-ins.

Set Details
=========

This set maximizes Numel's Special Attack to allow it to hit hard while still taking attacks well. The remaining EVs are funneled into Numel's HP and Defense to give it better mixed bulk and allow it to switch into strong special attackers. Oblivious ensures Numel can always set up Stealth Rock, but if Ancient Power is used, Simple is a good option on the off chance Numel receives a boost.

Usage Tips
=========

Numel is a great switch-in to common Pokemon in the metagame, such as Foongus, Magnemite, and Ferroseed, as they all fear its STAB attacks. Numel also makes for a great counter to Ponyta, as Numel resists its STAB moves. Set up entry hazards or use Will-O-Wisp on switches to burn incoming counters, although Numel must be cautious of burning Guts users such as Timburr.

Team Options
===========

Spritzee's Wish support is an absolute necessity to Numel, as it provides a form of recovery and allows Numel to beat Poison-, Fire-, and Steel-types that give Spritzee trouble throughout the match. Bulky Grass-types such as Pumpkaboo, Ferroseed, and Chespin are needed to cover up Numel's glaring weakness to Water- and Ground-types. Pumpkaboo has the added benefit of being able to spinblock, keeping Numel's Stealth Rock on the field. Numel's typing allows it to switch into the Fire-types that Grass-types cannot beat, forming a good defensive core. Water-type Pokemon such as Chinchou and Staryu function well with Numel as well, as Chinchou resists and beats opposing Water-types, while Staryu is a good switch-in to common Ground-types such as Drilbur and Archen. Chinchou and Staryu are both weak to Grass-types, making Numel a nice switch-in.

Simple Sweeper
#############
name: Simple Sweeper
move 1: Earth Power
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: Flame Charge
move 4: Growth
ability: Simple
item: Life Orb
evs: 36 HP / 236 SpA / 236 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
======

Earth Power and Fire Blast are Numel's two STAB attacks, and Flame Charge allows Numel to boost its Speed by two stages. Growth raises Numel's attacking stats by two stages, making it an imposing sweeper to face once it sets up.

Set Details
========

This set's purpose is to quickly set up multiple boosts and sweep the opponent's weakened team late in the game. 236 EVs allow Numel to hit 13 Speed and outspeed the entirety of the unboosted LC metagame after one Flame Charge, as well as outpace common 17 Speed Choice Scarf users such as Drilbur and Chinchou. A Modest nature, 236 Special Attack EVs, and a Life Orb give Numel maximum damage output. The remaining EVs are placed into Numel's HP for additional bulk.

Usage Tips
=========

Without Eviolite, Numel is quite frail and consequentially cannot set up on strong attackers. It is best to set up boosts against defensive Pokemon that cannot hurt Numel, such as Ferroseed. Prioritize raising speed, as without the boost Numel is open to being revenge killed.

Team Options
===========

Numel appreciates sun support from Vulpix, as it provides ample opportunities to set up with sun-boosted Flame Charge and doubles Growth's effect, raising both Numel's Attack and Special Attack by 4 stages. Chlorophyll users can also be paired with Numel and Vulpix to beat the Water- and Grass-types that prevent Numel from sweeping. Stealth Rock setters such as Dwebble and Onix help Numel beat the Flying-types that wall it such as Archen and Mantyke. Chinchou can also beat Archen and Mantyke. Numel also appreciates the pivot support that Volt Switch provides, allowing Numel the opportunity to switch in on Grass-types and set up. Ferroseed partners well with Numel, reliably beating Water- and Ground-types while having the ability to provide the entry hazard support Numel requires. Lileep also makes for a great partner, as it can wall Archen and Mantyke and switch into Water-types thanks to Storm Drain.

Other Options
###########
Numel has a variety of usable options, including a Rest + Sleep Talk set, which mends its lack of recovery and lets it hit the foe with Lava Plume and Earth Power while asleep. Hidden Power Electric allows Numel to hit Mantyke and Archen, although it does not have many other uses and generally Earth Power will hit Water-types harder. Unless you really want to hit Mantyke hard, Ancient Power generally is more useful. Yawn can be used to force out Numel's switch ins, as well as provide opportunities for teammates to set up. Stockpile can allow Numel to quickly boost both of its defenses thanks to Simple. Sunny Day can also be used to allow Numel to boost its own Growth and Fire-type attacks.

Checks and Counters
################

**Water-types**: Due to Numel's unfortunate 4x weakness to Water, it is forced out by any Water-types. Mantyke hard walls Numel, as it resists Numel's primary STAB attack and is immune to its secondary STAB attack. Chinchou and Staryu can both force Numel out but don't appreciate taking an Earth Power.

**Bulky Ground-types**: Bulky Ground-types such as Drilbur can switch into Numel and force it out with the threat of an Earthquake. They can be crippled on the switch with Will-O-Wisp, however.

**Archen**: Archen resists Fire and is immune to Ground, but it fears a burn on the switch in.

**Revenge Killers**: Due to its sub par speed, Numel is vulnerable to fast revenge killers and strong priority users such as Fletchling and Corphish.

I think on the Defensive set I would rather use Lava Plume than Fire Blast, so maybe give Lava Plume a first slash over Fire Blast. I think you should also slash Ancient Power over either Stealth Rock or Will-O-Wisp. I don't know which, but I am leaning towards Stealth Rock. I think you should mention that Numel is a great mon to switch into Ponyta because it resists its STAB and is immune to Wild Charge and Its decent special bulk also means that it can handle the SunnyBeamer set decently well. Another good partner with Numel is Chinchou, and Staryu is pretty decent, as well. Chinchou is a good switch into opposing Chinchou, and Staryu is a good answer for Drilbur. Chinchou also provides support in Scald burns, pivoting with Volt Switch, Thunder Wave, and Heal Bell, while Staryu provides Rapid Spin support. I think you should also mention Ferrothorn as a good Grass-type partner with Numel because it has great typing, forms a great core alongside Spritzee, and Numel handles Fire-types very well. Other good partners are pokemon who can switch into Drilbur, particularly Grass-types that do not have second-typing like Foongus and Spritzee does, like Chespin and Pumpkaboo.

I would also slash Ancient Power next to Flame Charge on the Simple Sweeper set, and then slash Earth Power next to Earthquake also. Mention in Set Details an alternative spread where you don't need the Atk EVs.

I slashed Ancient Power over Will-O-Wisp, as Lava Plume has a high burn chance and better accuracy so it is a better option, making the inaccurate W-O-W somewhat redundant in my opinion. Also changed the Simple sweeper to pure special, as the only reason I went mixed was because it was the previous standard. 10 BP doesn't seem that important. Funelled the rest into improving it's bulk, or lack thereof.

Pancham, why slash Ancient Powerover Flame Charge? Being able to outspeed everything is much more important, as even if you get to plus 6 the opponent just switches in something faster and Numel dies.

Overview: Change "Loses to popular hazard setters." --> "Loses to popular hazard removers."

Defensive:
Idk how I feel about the EV spread. It doesn't hit an eviolite number in SpDef and the only notable thing about all that SpA investment I found when looking briefly was OHKOing Pawniard with Fire Blast, but that's not even the main slash. Other QC members thoughts on moving 80 SpA points into spdef?
Change the EV spread to: 36 HP / 36 Def / 236 SpA / 156 SpD for now. Your order was a little messed up and you had extra EVs.

Moves: Talk about why it's relevant to hit Archen and Mantyke w/ Ancient Power. (They resist its STABs)

Set Details: Remove the Fletchling point. It's not very hard to avoid the OHKO from Fletchling and this doesn't survive a +2 Acrobatics.

Usage tips:
You talk about Ponyta quite a lot, just say it resists its STAB and threatens back with Earth Power. Instead of making the point about taking advantage of their switch out of Ponyta, make it more broad and when forcing switches in general. Remove the bit about water-types. Add in be wary of burning guts users such a Timburr.

Team Options:
Change "Numel's Ground typing allows it to switch into the Fire types" --> "Numel's typing allows it to switch into the Fire types" because its Fire typing allows it to resist their attacks and be immune to burns, while its ground typing allows it to threaten them.
Change Foongus to grass-types.
Add in that Pumpkaboo can spinblock, keeping Numel's Stealth Rock on the field.
Chinchou is not Numel's #1 switchin, considering its weak to Earth Power. Just say Chinchou resists and beat opposing water-types.
On the Spritzee point, mention Numel beats the Fire- and Steel-types that bother spritzee as well and adjust the examples to include each type.
On the last point, again just make it Numel's typing, not specifically its second typing.

Simple Sweeper:
Current EVs go above the max limit and there are a ton wasted. I honestly don't get what happened here. Change them to 36 HP / 236 SpA / 236 Spe with a Modest Nature.
Don't slash Ancient Power with Growth. Growth is the whole point of the set.

Moves:
Talk about the moves in the order they are listed on the set.
Move the part about Fire Blast having low accuracy and such to Usage Tips.

Set Details: Reflect the new EV spread here. Remove the part about being frail without Eviolite. Talk about Life Orb.

Usage Tips: "Numel can not break some common walls" Like what??

Team Options:
Sun boosts Growth. This is the main reason Vulpix is a good teammate.
Change Vullaby to Mantyke in the SR part.
You need to expand on this section. Include Pokemon that have good typing synergy or provide setup opportunities for Numel.

Other Options:
Change Earthquake to Earth Power.
Stockpile raises both defenses, not just physical.
Add Sunny Day to boost its own Growth and Fire-type attacks.

Implemented.

And my apologies about the EV's. As you could clearly see I misunderstood how they effect base stats and I made errors calculating them.

Overview:

Try and mention that Numel's defensive typing gives it some heavy weaknesses to contend with. Also, its offensive STABs complement each other quite well.

Simple sweeper:
- Team Options:

When you mention Vulpix, add mention that sun doubles Growth's effect, allowing Numel to reach +4 in Attack and Special Attack. Throw in a mention for Chlorophyll sweepers, as they beat the Water- and Ground-types that Numel is troubled by.

numel has a unique defensive typing which allows it to switch into many poison, grass, steel, electric and fire types

set 1

I'd rather have calm>bold, since mos the physical threats that numel is meant to wall do fuck all to it regardless, and there's also this:
240+ SpA Magnemite Hidden Power Ground vs. 36 HP / 156+ SpD Eviolite Numel: 10-12 (43.4 - 52.1%) -- 12.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
(10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 12)
240+ SpA Magnemite Hidden Power Ground vs. 36 HP / 156 SpD Eviolite Numel: 10-14 (43.4 - 60.8%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
(10, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 14)
240 SpA Life Orb Elekid Hidden Power Ground vs. 36 HP / 156+ SpD Eviolite Numel: 10-13 (43.4 - 56.5%) -- 12.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
(10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 13)
240 SpA Life Orb Elekid Hidden Power Ground vs. 36 HP / 156 SpD Eviolite Numel: 13-16 (56.5 - 69.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 16)

ran through some bold calcs and there's not much relevant, even fletchling isn't relevant after SR is taken into account, it's especially not as important when you have wisp. slash simple behind oblivious. mention how oblivious means you can always set up SR, but mention if you're using ancientpower then simple is decent just on the off chance that you get the boosts. it's rare but oblivious isn't much use either.

in team options, you can't emphasise spritzee enough, it's wishes basically make numel able to function, and numel can easily switch into all of spritzee's switch ins. I wouldn't really consider using this set without spritzee, so move it to the top of the list. also mention that staryu is a good archen counter

set 2
team options mention that numel can switch into the grass types that wall chinchou on the volt switch
lileep is a cool partner, i know it's not as good as ferro, but it does wall archen and mantyke better than ferro does.

other options
mention that hp electric is mostly outclassed by ancientpower unless you really wanna hit mantyke hard.
mention a rest talk set with lava plume and either earthpower or stockpile.

Defensive:
Set Details: Simple still isn't the preferred ability if Ancient Power; it's just a decent option because Oblivious won't come into play all that much anyway.

Team Options:
Mention how the bulky grass types also resist ground.
Is there anything notable about Ferroseed? I don't get why it's mentioned at the end, separate from other Grass-types.

Simple Sweeper:
Moves: Keep the part of using Flame charge to boost speed, but move using it to pick off weakened threats to the Usage Tips.

Team Options:
Remove the bit about Chinchou having to risk a speed tie to beat Archen. Very few use 17 speed and most survive Earthquake anyway.
I agree Ferroseed is a good partner, but not for beating Archen or Mantyke. It's better for beating Water- and Ground-types.

Other Options:
Rephrase the RestTalk part. It needs to say that it provides Numel with recovery. Then say that Lava Plume and Stockpile/Earth Power are used with this.
Stockpile isn't specific to walling physical attackers, remove that point. The second part of that sentence provides ample information for what Stockpile does.

Checks and Counters:
Numel's Defense is hardly worse than its SpDef. Change this point to just be Revenge Killers and emphasize priority users such as Corphish more.

=========

Without Eviolite, Numel is quite frail and consequentially cannot set up on strong attackers. It is best to set up boosts against defensive Pokemon that cannot hurt Numel, such as Ferroseed. Speed is the more important priority stat to raise (or you could change this part to "Prioritize raising Speed, as without..."), as without the boost Numel is open to being revenge killed (remove dash).

Team Options

Numel appreciates sun support from Vulpix, as it provides ample opportunities to set up with sun-boosted Flame Charge and doubles Growth's effect, raising both Numel's Attack and Special Attack by 4 stages. Chlorophyll users can also be paired with alongside Numel and Vulpix to beat the Water- and Grass-types that prevent Numel from sweeping. Stealth Rock setters such as Dwebble and Onix help Numel beat the Flying-types that wall it, (comma) such as Archen and Mantyke. Chinchou can also beat Mantyke, who walls Numel, and Archen and Mantyke. Numel also appreciates the pivot support that Volt Switch provides, allowing Numel the opportunity to switch in on Grass-types and set up. Ferroseed partners well with Numel, reliably beating Water- and Ground-types while having the ability to provide get up the entry hazard support Numel requires. Lileep also makes for a great partner, as it can wall Archen and Mantyke and switch into Water-types thanks to Storm Drain.

Other Options

Numel has a variety of usable options, including a Rest + Sleep Talk set, which mends its lack of recovery and lets it hit hitting the foe with Lava Plume and Earth Power while asleep. Hidden Power Electric allows Numel to hit Mantyke and Archen, although it does not have many other uses and generally Earth Power will hit Water-types harder and only hits these two specific counters. Unless you really want to hit Mantyke hard, Ancient Power generally is more useful. Yawn can be used to force out it's Numel's switch-ins, (remove dash) as well as provide opportunities for teammates to set up. Stockpile can allow Numel with Simple to quickly boost both of its defenses thanks to Simple. Sunny Day can also be used to allow Numel to boost its own Growth and Fire-type attacks.

Checks and Counters
################

**Water-types**: Due to Numel's unfortunate 4x weakness to Water, it is forced out by any Water-types. Mantyke hard walls Numel, as it resists Numel's primary STAB attack and is being immune to its secondary STAB attack.

**Archen**: Archen resists Fire and is immune to Ground, but it Numel's primary STAB and is immune to it's secondary STAB attacks. However, Archen fears a burn on the switch in.

**Revenge Killers**: Due to its subpar Speed it's sub-par speed, Numel is vulnerable to fast revenge killers, (remove comma) and strong priority users such as Fletchling and Corphish.

This analysis is completed. Huge thank you to the QC and GP members for the assistance, and apologies about my large mistakes, especially the more obvious simple ones.
