  1. Quotes

"knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting them in fruit salad." Brian O'Driscoll (I wish someone would explain this to Koreans)
  2. Post-College Life

I graduated five years ago with a Physics major, couldn't find any good jobs near where I lived and ended up doing the night shift at a supermarket for a year and a half (and being paid surprisingly well!). After I had enough of that, and the job situation getting no better, I fled to South...
  3. Breaking News: Kim Jong Il is dead! (so ronery up in heaven)

A lot of (South) Koreans I've spoken to are worried that the transitional phase will result in more shelling/ something worse happening to South Korea, as a power struggle happens over the leadership. Also, as someone mentioned earlier his son was apparently responsible for the recent more...
  4. KPOP

went to the asia song festival on Saturday, saw SNSD, Miss A, Super Junior, G.Na, U-Kiss and Beast, as well as some up-and-coming new groups... awesome atmosphere, although we were sat right infront of the Beast fan section, so couldn't really hear anything but screaming for most of their...

  6. itt post things you dislike but other people love

crowded clubs.. I really don't like it when my mates won't go to a club unless it's jam-packed full of people (obviously I don't like completely empty clubs either, I just need some space to show my moves)

  8. pop up pirate appreciation thread

we play this at the bar sometimes... the korean version has ridiculous dares written on the swords (like write your name with your butt, and kiss the person to your left's hand). We also use the rule that if you make it pop you have to drink, but if you catch it everyone else drinks, but if you...
  9. The Infamous Hover Hands!

maybe the girl in the 4th picture suddenly fell through the floor? I was going to take the piss more, but looking at some of my facebook pictures I'm just as bad....
  10. Your beverage of choice (soft drink or alcohol)

Cass (cheap-ass Korean beer, but strangely addictive) if I don't want to get drunk, Jaeger-bombs if I do. But we can't get Red Bull here, so we use some really strange energy/ vitamin drinks to make the bombs, so everyone is different!
  11. fears about growing up?

I'm 24, and definitely don't class myself as "grown-up". I pretty much still live the university life- drinking most nights, sleeping til 1 everyday, playing computer games with my mates a lot... if I was living in a country where I was expected to look after myself I'd probably be screwed, but...
  12. What are you learning?

I've been learning Korean on and off for about a year now (seeing as I live in Korea, it seems like a good idea...) I can do basic conversational stuff (especially while drunk, apparently), but I don't have a regular teacher, and my self-motivational skills are close to zero, so I am learning...
  13. What do you keep in your pockets?

because i need the phone more than anything else, so I don't like having to rummage at all for it. I also generally wear jeans with pretty big pockets so overflowing isnt an issue.... (plus I'm a little paranoid about scratching my phone :/

Right Pocket: Phone Left Pocket: Wallet, car keys, house keys, mp3 with earphones, couple of boardpens, pencil, gum, spare change, scissors. Yes, I am a bit strange....
  15. What is your current job?

I'm a teacher, working 17hours a week, 4pm to either 8 or 9pm... it's a dead easy job, teaching English to elementary age Korean kids. Pay isn't bad either, and I get a free apartment!
  16. Favorite Beer

When I was in England, I usually drunk either Fosters (cheap, not too bad, easy to keep drinking) or a local ale called Waggledance, which was honey flavoured and awesome, if I could find it. Now I'm in Korea I just drink the local pissy lager- its so cheap that it doesnt really matter that...
  17. Boxing Day

Went to see Avatar! There were 5 of us as a group, and luckily there were 5 seats left at the cinema (although we had to sit apart, it was still well worth the 2 hour journey there) Also ate Burger King (twice) and KFC (this is a big deal when your town has no fast food restaurants...)
  18. Christmas 2009

Hat, Gloves, and a really cute book- I can't read it very well, as its in Korean, but it is so beautifully illustrated that I'm going to be sat with it and a dictionary for a fair few hours.... For Christmas itself we had a photo scavenger hunt on Christmas Eve, which involved teams of...
  19. What's your favorite movie???

Die Hard the original one, it has everything you need from a movie- reluctant hero, european overacting badguy, plenty of explosions, "witty" one liners.... and its perfect for Christmas!
  20. How many countries can you name?

172- I have a great knowledge for extremely useles stuff like this, but I'm still struggling to remember words that I've been taught in Korean for the last 8 weeks or so....
