News on the Qualifyer in the US, all that we have had confirmed is
"It is to Early" - Mike Lisek,Manager of Operations, Pokemon USA Inc.
thats cool, i guess.

anyways i already know what team im using and currently breeding for it. im almost done just need 3 more pokemon.

well im done breeding for trick and now im thinking of breeding for Raindance

also now with platinum Ragigigas at lv.1 (i think) what threat will it bring?

Regigigas is more of a threat in singles than doubles because if you play well, you can cripple your opponent's team and they can't switch that much and have to kill or at least cripple you within three turns.

But it's largely useless in standard OU and doubles play.

but in doubles, you very well can use say a alakazam to skill swap slow start off and then go on with the kill. more set-up than what is wanted but it is one of the few viable options with regigigas in doubles.

Hopefully the tournament will hit Texas.

My guess if they do more qualifyers this year, it would hit these spots:
Los Angeles - California
Salt Lake City - Utah/Denver - Colorado
Chicago - Illinois
New York - New York/Orlando - Florida

This guess is based on distance between states, and population.

sence Top 8 got a trip last year, if the double the qualifyers, it would be Top 4 at each qualifyer if they want the same amount compettitors.

Thoughts? Comments? Smart Remarks?

Well, if they're going to want a lot of people to be from the US in this, they would probably still have the top 8, *hopefully* not a top 4.

finally a memento user!
i attempted to use memento dusknoir and told my brother to use it at orlando. still, though, nobody liked it but now i see a japanese use it :)

and by the way, now that were on the subject, my brother and i say happy holidays to all those he saw at orlando.

hold on:
Top 8 x 2 Qualifyers in 2008 = 16
Top 4 x 4 Qualifyers in 2009 = 16

not getting your logic.
Also, if the qualifyers are closer you could very well attend multiple qualifyers. at the qualifyers in 2008 the people who did not show had their spots raffled off to the people who came anyway.

They could just have the same amount, not less just because there's more spots for players..
What i should have said is that they should put more spots for more people to make it, and probably 256 players instead of 128 players, with a top 16 or something...
Sorry for the confusion:(

I think there are a lot more Japanese qualifiers this year than previous years, so it would only make sense that there are more stops here. I think in order to match the amount of US players vs Japanese players they would still have the top 8 from each stop, since only 5-8 stops are likely in the USA.

My guesses are:

Los Angeles (which I will win, so don't even bother going to this one :p)
Chicago/Detroit
Denver/Kansas City
Dallas
a Florida stop(possibly Orlando or St. Petersburg)
New York City

Other possible stops are Seattle, Nashville, or Richmond(VA). One 'concern' I have(since I leave near LA) is that they won't have a stop there, since San Diego is where Worlds will be, and they might think it's just too close geographically to have a stop. Hopefully they realize that it's much farther away than the map might infer. I just don't want to travel for my pokemon tournament. =(

@micuat = Interesting to see Yoshimura changed his team slightly but still is being successful with it. Apparently he changed to Dusknoir from Bronzong because of the Heat Wave tutor in Platinum, which makes sense. Memento is unexpected, but it makes room for Snorlax to come in and Belly Drum, so that is clearly beneficial. I think the last move on Snorlax was Fire Punch, because he used a Belly Drum Snorlax at Showdown 2008. there's a chance it might be different but I doubt it.

I wouldn't worry about that. They definitely will put LA in this.

i really hope it hits florida. it would really save me a whole lot of time going to new york, and i can visit some familly up in orlando so finding a place to stay wont be such a problem. just one thing if i make it to top 8 or 16 wich ever gets me to the finals or what ever. will nintendo pay for me? you know transportation cause i really think qualifiers will end up in japan for the champion ships.lol i can see it now a bunch of us on a plane with a pikachu on face on it flying over to japan. =D

Any platinum threats i should be aware of for this showdown?

Definitely Heat Wave being a double target fire move given to A LOT of fire types.

Also, signal beam can be a problem to ur grassies.

Also, holy crap what a lot of Dusknoirs, Latias's and Smeargles!

Weavile covers all of them though ^^.

The Weavile/Infernape or Typloshion post earlier would actually be more useful againts dusknoir/smeargle with Weavile than Bronzong/Smear.

Wait, sinc ewe're using Latias as a suspect, now it's allowed? Wasn't it banned a week ago?

nvm i just double checked apparently the item is banned...

The tiers of 'standard' battling don't mean crap in a Nintendo tournament. That is why, IMO, Showdown is much more enjoyable than Shoddy Battle.

If you advance far enough to warrant your participation in the nationals, Nintendo will pay your way(airfare to San diego and hotel as well).
