A quick question about the bold HP ground cresselia thing... will it work for DP? i havent "talked" to cresselia yet so yeah...

Thanks for posting the videos and results guys! Very interesting results here. Out of the winning teams, the combo I like the best would have to be the Marowak/Togekiss pair. I suppose Togekiss uses Follow Me while Marowak lays it down with Earthquake coming off of his enormous Attack and STAB. Marowak's low Speed helps him against Trick Room teams using Metagross and Machamp, although Rain Dance teams, particularly Surfs, would cut him short. LightningRod complements Togekiss's Electric weakness nicely (although it wouldn't absorb Discharge..). A very clever strategy indeed. Cresselia is getting increased usage, although I'm surprised Infernape is showing his face more often. Heat Wave is just that valuable, eh?

Now, about your question, viperGTS. micuat stated that Japanese players discovered a RNG exploitation in Platinum only, but I have a small hunch that it could work in D/P. Often times when I'm soft-reseting for a Mystery Gift I get similar natures and spreads (synchronize wouldn't have an effect with the natures in this case). That's with an Event Pokemon though, so it's likely that it's just a coincidence... or is it? :P I might do some testing on it after I make more sense out of the link micuat provided earlier.

Well, ill try to see what happens with cresselia when i "talk" to it.
By the way, would gravity teams be another possible team used at this tourney? What do you guys think of gravity?

On the subject of Gravity, I don't think it's very useful. The only real Pokémon it can be used against would really be Aerodactyl or Bronzong (Some I can think of off the top of my head). You could always Skill Swap too if it makes a difference. Instead of Negating it you obtain it, so you can use Earthquake multiple times without Protecting or having to switch to a Flying type.

lol, he wanted to be slower than anything on the field so he lowred his level by1. =D

Edit: micuat good luck

hey guys just a lil something to share.

Alright I have Pokemon Platinum(not the subject) and I have been watching tourny videos via Global Terminal. For anyone who has the game go to

Red Room
Red Box
2nd Option
Number 4.

All of the tourny battles are there. And the Dusknoir,Smear strategy isnt working very well. Sandstorm teams are getting really popular however.
Just a heads up/advice

Just wondering Donutt, what is the Global Terminal? I haven't really read up on Platinum.

its the GTS but it has more. It has 3 rooms. Blue Room, you can look at screenshots of boxes and dressed up pokemon but over wi fi. Red room look at battles, a lot of them which can be searched by number and the green room which is situtated on the bottom floor where the regular GTS is. The green room you can watch battles

Judging by all of those battles, it looks like there's actually a metagame for this tournament: Gyarados, Snorlax, Dusknoir, Zapdos and all the other Pokemon you see in just about every other team.

I think we could capitalize on this.

I agree! I think there should definitely be a metagame for doubles. When you really think about it, why wouldn't there be one?

ok well i think we should as a group put together the most veiwed in the final matches and determine team from there we can make differents movesets and combo's. =D

whatya think?

Guys, there's always a kind of metagame involved in a game where human opponents face against each other; it's about understanding the trends of the strategies used by players in a specific game to achieve victory. That being said, the metagame for doubles hasn't been as well documented as, say, the singles environment, which is probably due to a dearth of online simulation for it, and perhaps just a scarcity of interest for the style. Personally, I like the fast pace of Doubles.

There's already a Doubles thread for team combinations and such, but I find a good chunk of the content there is rather gimmicky compared to the teams being used in the VGS. Recently I've been working for fun on compiling statistics of the teams being used in the 08-09 VGS, so I might update with that work in a later post.

You're absolutely right Sudo. We should check out all the usage and strategies of Showdown teams. It seems mostly that many people I've seen use primarily Rain Dance or Trick Room teams.

Actually, I think by far the most prominent teams look essentially like random OUs stuck together; most teams carry a Metagross, Snorlax, Cresselia, Latios, Zapdos, Gyarados, etc. Only a few of the winning teams have a "theme", like Rain Dance or Trick Room.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while, and I agree with compiling a metagame list for showdown, and think that we should set some kind of server exclusive to showdown rules, because it's quite hard to find practice, like even on popular places for battles like Gamefaqs, it's seldom you'll find a person even willing to do a showdown battle, hell half of them don't even know what showdown is, let alone the rules.

Well I've been practicing for this, in my slim hopes that Ninendo will give a Qualifier to Mexico. You can see some of my battles, and some of you might even be interested in battling me on this thread: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50567

NOTE: You need Platinum to watch the battles.

I'm currently breeding/EVing a new team, and I also have my team for the tournament as well but I'm not using it for these battles until the tournament is done.

I hope they make it like JAA where I have an actual chance at getting in. In Showdown it is randomized which sucks. At least in JAA I was ready to participate in the quiz. Sometimes I hate Nintendo. Why can't USA have more Tournaments? lol.
