Chapter 12: Ninja Ninja

"What the hell? This road too?" I mutter under my breath. The road heading west from Celadon, like the road heading east from Vermilion, is blocked by a massive rotund pokemon. Chim-Chim gives the large mass a few jabs but the pokemon simply begins snoring more loudly. Maybe some noise will wake it up. I pull the flute that the man in the pokemon tower gave me out of my backpack, take a deep breath, and blow into the mouthpiece of the flute. A loud shrill note fills the air, and I feel like my ears are going to jump off my head and run away. Chim-Chim rolls around on the ground, squealing in agony. The large bulk in front of me begins to bellow, a deep bass sound in contrast to the high pitched shrill of the flute. As Chim-Chim and I attempt to recover our senses from the awful sound of the flute, the giant pokemon slowly manages to stand up on its large feet, which look flattened under the tremendous weight they carry on the possibly rare occasions that the pokemon is awake.

"Snorlax, the sleeping pokemon." The pokedex's voice chimes out. The 'sleeping pokemon'? No shit. The giant pokemon, now fully on its feet, swings one of its massive arms at me. Thankfully, the pokemon is just as slow as it looks, and I step out of the way of its swing. Chim-Chim jumps up to the pokemon's relatively small head, and swiftly lands a karate chop. The Snorlax becomes disoriented, and falls over on its back. Right back in the middle of the road where it was before. "Dammit Chim-Chim" I sigh. Desperate to avoid using that flute again, I pull out a pokeball. The pokeball, bounces of the massive body of the Snorlax, but still manages to open up and draw the giant pokemon inside. A moment later, the ball lights up, then turns white and vanishes. I have six pokemon already with me, so the storage program in the pokeballs kicks in transporting the new pokemon to the league storage terminals until I decide to retrieve it at a pokemon center.

Night falls as I reach Fuschia City. The road between the Snorlax and the city was mostly comprised of a long downhill path. The trainers I came across on it referred to it simply as cycling road. Riding down the road on my bike was a run trip, the few trainers that stopped me posing little challenge. The trip became even more rewarding when outside the gates I ran into a large two-headed bird pokemon. The strange bird was easy to capture, with its pokeball being transferred to storage like Snorlax's was. Tired from the biking trip, I end up passing out the moment I walk into Fuschia City's pokemon center.

Two days pass before I go to take on the Fuchsia Gym, heeding Erika's warning about the strength of its leader, Koga. Most of the time was spent training the two headed bird pokemon. The pokedex called it a Doduo, but I decided to call it Jose. After a day and a half of letting Jose beat up any wild pokemon we run into, it finally evolved. Evolution made the creature even more bizarre, giving it a third head. I enter the Fuchsia Gym, finding myself in a large empty room with wooden floors and small thin windows running across the wall. Three trainers, all wearing black outfits, stand in the middle of the room, casually talking with one another.

"Hey!" I shout across the gym, "The Gym Leader here?" The trainers all turn to face.

"He's out at the moment, but we'll be glad to see if you're even worthy of facing our master!" The three trainers all throw out pokeballs, unleashing an assortment of pokemon. I call out Jose, who runs toward the trainers, its three heads breathing a combination of fire, lightning, and ice from the heads' long beaks...

The trainers stare at me and Jose in disbelief. The walls of the gym are covered in burn marks; shards of ice and wounded pokemon. Jose stands triumphantly in the middle of the room, his middle head shooting fire into the air. "Ah, an interesting opponent has shown up today." A calm voice comes from somewhere in the room. "Allow me to introduce myself." A tall figure steps out of the shadows in one of the back corners of the room. "I am Koga, master of ninjutsu and poison pokemon. Are you here to challenge me?"

"Yes," I reply to the ninja.

"This should be fun then, I hope you're ready." Koga's voice comes from behind me this time. I turn around to see him standing there next to me. I do a quick double-take, looking back at the corner of the room where he used to be in. I immediately jump back, putting some distance between myself and Koga as I recall Jose. Poison types should be no match for a psychic, I think to myself as I call out Tenma. Koga calls out a Koffing, and the match begins.

Tenma quickly proves too much for the Koffing, psychically bouncing the ball of gas off the walls of the gym. Eventually, the Koffing groans out in pain and begins to deflate. Koga sends out two more pokemon. One of them is a small pile of goo that I recognize from Mt. Moon as a Grimer. Next to it is a far larger pile of slime that must be its evolution. My pokedex identifies the evolution with the name 'Muk.' Neither goo monster can step up to the waves of psychic energy from Tenma, however, and soon the Kadabra is looking at nothing more than two purple puddles.

"You're good, kid, but it's time to get serious." Koga throws out his last pokemon, and a Weezing comes forth. The Weezing looks like little more than a couple Koffings that got stuck together, so I don't see how he expects it to stand up to Tenma.

"Tenma, psybeam that thing and let's wrap this fight up!" Tenma's eyes glow, and the air seems to shake violently around him. He puts one of his hands on his forehead, and a nearly invisible ball of psionic energy forms in front of him. The ball turns into beam of energy as it extends outward from the Kadabra, violently making contact with the large poisonous abomination. The Weezing flies backwards into the wall of the gym. Tenma turns to me, waiting for my command to return it back into its pokeball, when suddenly its struck from behind by a spray of dark purple acid. I look to the back wall of the gym, and the Weezing is still conscious, barely floating above the ground. "Tenma, use Recover!" I command frantically, but it's too late. Tenma's eyes stop glowing. No... how could I let this happen again? Enraged, I throw Jose's pokeball towards the Weezing, and a flurry of pecks from the bird's long sword-like beaks finish off the poisonous bastard.

The dark acid burns my hand as I desperately pick up Tenma, and run toward the door of the gym, hoping to reach the pokemon center while there's still a pulse of life in the Kadabra. I look down at the pokemon clutched in my arms and stop running. Tenma's eyes have already faded into a dull lifeless gray, and I know that he's already gone. Koga says nothing to me, and simply holds out a small badge in his hand. I remain silent as I grab the badge, and solemnly walk through the gyms door, Jose's trio of heads sulking as it follows me out of the gym.

-

The moon shines brightly in the night sky, giving the only light needed for Shiz to see our destination. The streets of the town are empty as we land, no normal person would be out this time of night. A large tower stretches up into the sky, blocking the stars. I slowly walk into the tower, and approach an old monk sitting in meditation on the tower's bottom floor. He guides me to a small tomb on the third floor of the tower, opening the slab covering the coffer. I place a large yellow pokemon inside the tomb, a small silver spoon still clutched in its hand. The monk pushes the slab back over the tomb's lid. I thank the man and walk back down the tower, as the old man takes out a small metal chisel. He leans down next to the tomb, and with the chisel carves the word 'Tenma'

I woke up from my nap refreshed... and blind. I patted my face and noticed something fuzzy on it, so i threw it off of me. It was a wurmple. Freaked out, I immediatly called out Zoobee and bit it on the head. It cried out and I threw a pokeball at it, and caught me McLovin. Stupid honey on the tree must have attracted him.

I took the key I stole back to the woodworks, where the Galactic guy I creamed was utterly shocked that I got it. I beat up his friends, and met their commander, named mars. She had red hair, which was kind of weird, so I beat her up and saved that little girl's father. Don't suppose I get a reward? No? K. Well... guess I'll go back to Floaroma and take another nap.

Chapter 1: The Departure
My father was killed by the fascist government. He dared to speak out against them, so they killed him. My name is Dash Fletchum, and this is my story of revenge.

I woke up on my 10th birthday. My mother knew I had to leave. "All boys leave someday" she said. "It said so on TV."
The televesion networks, of course, are run by the government, and they've brainwashed most everyone. I left without a fuss and went to Professor Oak's lab. My neighbor, and all-around douchebag, Jary Oak, was waiting there. He, too, was getting his Pokemon today. Professor Oak was out, so I left to walk around.
Professor Oak was a government employee, managing the distribution of Pokemon in my area. His grandson Jary was part of the Pokemon Youth Group, a government-brainwashing program. But Professor Oak, unbeknownst to most, also lead the resistance group: The Pokemon Liberation Front. He lived a double life, trying to defeat the fascist government from within.
I wandered into the tall grass, and then Professor Oak showed up before I could take more than two steps. "It's dangerous to walk in the tall grass" he said. "Wild Pokemon can appear, and-" he was cut off by something jumping out of the grass. I was a yellowish mouse with red cheeks. Professor Oak swiftly pulled out a ball capsule and captured the beast. "Let's return to my lab" he said, and I followed him.

"Dash, do you see that PokeBall on the table there?" he asked when we arrived. "That contains a Pokemon. I want you to take it."
"What?! I thought that Pokemon was for me," whined Jary.
"Be patient Jary. Go ahead Dash, take it." I walked over to the table and reached for the PokeBall. Suddenly Jary ran up and pushed me aside, and grabbed the PokeBall.
"Haha! This one's mine!"
"Jary! I told you to wait! Ah... It can't be helped," Oak conceded. "Dash, come here." I obeyed, and he handed my the PokeBall from earlier. "This one... was just caught, so it's not exactly tame yet. It's yours." I took the ball from him, understanding the full implications of this responsiblity. "Would you like to give it a nickname?" he asked.
"KERBLOOIE!" I yelled with childish excitement.
"Alright... from now on this Pokemon shall be known as Kerblooie." I turned to leave, but Jary stopped me.
"Hey, let's battle!" Long story short I kicked his ass. "Woah! I guess I chose the wrong Pokemon! Oh well. Smell ya later!" He left, and I turned to talk to Oak.

"So... You really want to avenge your father?" I nodded. "Well, you're going to have to listen to these rules, and follow them exactly. First! Don't allow your Pokemon to faint. You've been lied to all your life. Fainted Pokemon are actually dead. The 'revives' they use are merely government chips they implant into your dead Pokemon's mind to control their bodies. You would never be able to use them to defeat the government. Release any fainted Pokemon. Second! Do not use any healing items. Potions, Antidotes, and all the like are made by the government, and they contain Pokemon mind-control chemicals. Pokemon center healers do not contain these, and so they are safe to heal there, but they cannot revive a dead Pokemon. Third! You can only capture one Pokemon per area, and that Pokemon has to be the first one you encounter. If you fail to catch that one, then you cannot catch any in that area. I know that is an odd rule, but do not question it! You will understand in due time." I was a tad overwhelmed by this shocking information but I accepted it. "I want you to go to Viridian City and pick up a package for me at the Poke Mart. The man there is a friend of mine, so you can trust him."
"I understand, Professor."
"Then go." As I left, Kerblooie broke out of his PokeBall. "Hmm..." pondered Oak. "It seems that that Pikachu dislikes PokeBalls. Well, why don't you try walking around with it. It shouldn't run away." Oak was right. As I walked, Kerblooie followed. It followed my through Route 1 too. I encountered a Rattata, but I had no Pokeballs, so I just killed it for experience, knowing that I could never catch another Pokemon here again.
I reached Viridian, and entered the Poke Mart. The man at the counter recognized me at once and handed me the package. I returned to the lab and gave Oak his package. Jary showed up at the same time, and Oak gave us both PokeDexes. He explained how catching every Pokemon was his dream, but I knew that Jary would be the one to do that, because catching every Pokemon was not my goal.
My goal was to defeat every Gym Leader, who were all government elites. After defeating each, I would be able to fight the Elite Four. They describe it as a tournament of sorts, a "game" for aspiring Pokemon Trainers. But in actuality, they were nothing but dirty government workers. They used the Gym Challenge as an excuse to weed out the suspicious characters who show up with aspirations of overthrowing the Champion.

These were the people who killed my father, and I was not going to play their game by their rules.
--------------------------
Sorry, that was a lot more winded than I thought it would be. I've gotten farther than this but I don't have time to write it all down right now.

Team:
KERBLOOIE - lvl 6 Pikachu

So, to be continued.

After my cat-nap, I decided to go back to Route 205 and head north. Those wierd Galactic guys were gone, so I fought my way north. After catching a Pachirisu and naming it PichPach, I defeated every trainer stupid enough to challenge me, and found a house with a strange old women who told me to take a little rest. I did, expecting the worse, turns out she just wanted to get me fat and eat me. heh.

I then went into the forest and met a strange girl with purple hair. I was busy pondering why nobody had NORMAL hair colors anymore, when she asked me to help her threw the forest.

"What's in it for me?" I asked

"I have an unlimited Full Restore and Max Elixir supply that I'll use on your pokemon after every battle, because I'M not doing some weird challenge. Neiner Neiner Neiner."

Though I was enraged at her taunting, she did have a good offer, so I agreed to help escort her through the forest. I decided to use this "unlimited free healing" of hers to level some of my weaker pokemon, and caught a Budew which I named Florence. Got out of the forest in one piece, told her to go jump off a cliff, and went to the next city, Eterna.

Another strange goth chick came up to me, and gave me an HM. I used it to teach Chirpie cut, and went east to a rocky path. There I found a Meditite, but an unfortunate crit from Zoobee ended his life before I could catch him. Disappointed, I headed back into the town, and went to the gym to unleash my rage. Zoobee decided to redeem himself by single handedly killing every single pokemon in the gym, and getting me my 2nd badge.

Chapter 13: The Future Champion?

The streets are empty.

Silence is all I can hear as I walk down the streets of Saffron City. Dark figures disappear into alleys and faces stare out of windows. Something's wrong here. I don't care though. The state of the city is not my concern, only the badge held by the city's Gym Leader. I search the barren streets until I find the building I seek. I approach the gym only to find that the door is locked. I circle the gym's walls, peering through each window. Lights are off. Gym is empty.

"Sabrina's taking a vacation, boy." A voice behind me speaks. I turn to find a short man in a Team Rocket uniform.

"The hell are you talking about?"

"Boss is in town to conduct some business at Silph Co. Didn't want any one hanging around town so he got Sabrina to skip town until he was done. Not like anyone's gonna be out though when Team Rocket's controlling the streets." The man snidely replies.

"Guess I'll have to get Giovanni to tell me where Sabrina is, or just make him leave town so she'll come back." I state, mostly just to myself. I walk past the man towards the downtown section of the city, where I figure I'll be able to find the Silph Co office.

"You really think you can just barge in on the boss, kid? Our men are all over the Silph Company's building!" The man yells at me as I walk away.

I turn my head back at him and shout. "Your men couldn't stop me in Celadon, what makes you think they'll stop me here?"

The Team Rocket member's eyes widen. "You... You're him.... You're here! I better inform the boss!" He grabs a phone out of his pocket as he runs off. It makes no difference to me if they know I'm coming or not. I continue walking down the street, looking for any signs indicating where Silph Co's building is.

-

The Silph Company building was easier to find than I expected. Their building was a massive skyscraper that stands far above the building around it, far larger than the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town. The revolving doors in front lead to a massive lobby that takes up the entire first floor. Water gushes out of twin fountains in the middle of the lobby. As far as people go though, the lobby's completely empty. I walk through the abandoned lobby, and find an elevator on the back wall. Inside the elevator is a simple panel with buttons marked from one to eleven. No clue where Giovanni's at, so I guess I'll just pick at random. I close my eyes and press my hand flat against the panel, pushing in several buttons.

The elevator spends several minutes moving up and down, then finally stops. A screen above the door lights up with the number '5.' I walk out on to the floor, and a Team Rocket grunt immediately greets me.

"You're that kid that showed up Celadon aren't you? We're not going to let you get in our way this time!" The grunt shouts as he calls out a Hypno. Looks like the lackeys might have gotten a bit better. After pondering for a moment on which pokemon to use, I decide to bring out Lopez, the Snorlax, whose pokeball I had started carrying around in an attempt fill the void left behind by Tenma's passing. I throw down the pokeball, and the giant pokemon comes out. Fortunately Silph Co's building has high ceilings and large enough hallways to give Lopez enough room to fight in. "Hypno! Headbutt that fat thing!" The Rocket grunt orders his pokemon, who dives headfirst into Lopez, only to bounce off of Lopez's impressive bulk. The Snorlax lowers its head, and decides to give a headbutt as well, its massive head smashing the Hypno into the wall. The Team Rocket grunt quickly recalls his pokemon and runs away.

Lopez lumbers along behind me as I run through the building. Navigating the skyscraper is no easy task, but Lopez makes the job easier, dispatching the pokemon of any Team Rocket member that comes after me with the same ease as he took out the Hypno. After what feels like hours of searching, I finally come across a hallway with "<--- Board Room" written on the wall. Don't think I've been there yet. I turn to run down the hallway, when I see a teen-aged boy sitting against the wall of the hallway.

"I had a good feeling I'd find you here, Bob. Looks like that feeling was right." The boy says as he rises to his feet. He points at the Snorlax behind me. "I see you managed to catch that monstrosity. Nice job."

"You waited in this place just to fight me again, Gary?"

"Actually, I just wanted to tell you that I'll be heading to the Pokemon League's Headquarters soon." He pulls a small case out of his pocket and opens it. Five badges identical to the ones I have are inside, as well as three more. Gary has all eight badges. He closes the case and grins at me. "I guess since the next time we'll meet, I'll be the Champion, I can give you the privilege of fighting me one last time." Gary, as usual, calls out his bird pokemon first, only this time it appears that it's fully evolved into a Pidgeot. I point at the bird, and Lopez walks forward toward his opponent.

The great bird flies up to the high ceiling of the hallway, then dives down toward its rotund foe. Lopez leans its head back as the Pidgeot approaches, then quickly brings its head forward again, its massive skull collding with the bird. Pidgeot falls to the ground, and Gary calls it back, then summons his Gyarados. Lopez nervously backs away from the blue serpent, and I call him back to his pokeball. I then bring out Gonzalez, who handled the beast well the last time they met. The Gyarados lunges at the Ivysaur, but falls to the ground as a green powder fills the air around it, and in moments is asleep. With it's opponent now unable to dodge, Gonzalez shoots out a few seeds that land on top of the Gyarados, quickly sprouting roots that dig into the monster's flesh. Gyarados wakes up, howling in pain as it thrashes about, but is steadily weakened as the plants rooted into it continue to grow. "Finish it!" I shout, and Gonzalez shoots out several razor sharp leaves that slice into the Gyarados's scales, and the monster collapses.

As Gary recalls his monster, Gonzalez begins to glow brightly. His body turns white has he doubles in side, and the plant on his back opens its petals, becoming a massive flower. Finally, Gonzalez has reached its full potential, evolving into a Venusaur. Unfortunately, now is not the time to see how much Gonzalez's strength has improved. Gary summons his Exeggcute, which has a definite typing advantage over a poisonous grass pokemon. I call back my newly evolved Gonzalez and bring out Jose. The Dodrio's tail begins flapping at an incredibly high speed, and somehow the wingless bird takes flight, rising up to the corridor's ceiling. It swoops down at the Exeggcute, its three heads continuously pecking at different eggs in the cluster that makes up the pokemon.

Gary recalls the eggs and sends out his next pokemon, and Alakazam, the evolution of Kadabra. It turns to face the Dodrio, spoons clutched in its hands, its long mustache flowing down nearly to the floor. Seeing the sight of what Tenma could have become sends a spike of pain through my heart. Furiously I order Jose to attack, and it rushes at the Alakazam, its three beaks striking the psychic pokemon's face in unison. The Alakazam flies backwards through the air, before landing with a hard thud on the floor. In a flash of light it vanishes back into its pokeball, as my rival unleashes his final pokemon.

His Charmeleon has evolved as well, and the new pokemon looms over the Dodrio before it. Large red and blue wings unfold, reaching from wall to wall, a great flame burns on the end of its long tail. The Charizard stretches its long neck forward towards Jose, and opens its mouth, enveloping the three headed bird in a sea of flames. The fire dissipates, and Jose, although wounded, is still standing. Jose opens all three of its mouths; one head breathes forth fire, one lightning, one ice. The three elemental streams strike the Charizard's chest, and it doubles over in pain before falling to the ground. Once again, the fight between me and my rival ends. Once again, I am the victor.

"Did they give you those badges out of pity, Gary?" I sneer at my defeated opponent.

"Ha, guess they were just still tired from my other battles. When we meet again, Bob, it will be at the Pokemon League, and I will be the Champion, so enjoy this moment. It's the last time that you'll have ever beaten me." Gary turns his head away as he walks past me, vanishing around the corner of the hall. I call Jose back into its pokemon, and run forward down the hallway, to where I have the feeling Giovanni is waiting.

Chapter Four: Seedan's Rage (Part One)

(Bob, you are my hero. You and Loquitor definitely have the best all-word logs here. I can't compete...

As a side note, the encounter RNG is fucking trolling me. Weedles in Leaf Green on Route 2, Viridian, 24 AND 25?! WHAT THE FUCK?!)

---
My night in Cerulean is peaceful. I find a small cafe for dinner, and purchase some slightly finer food for my pals. They've earned it. Mt. Moon really took it out of all of us, especially Seedan, who I relied on heavily for the wild Pokemon. His muscles are really starting to bulge. I am unaware that his current content expression is the calm before the storm.

Early next morning, I decide to take the "Nugget Bridge Challenge", which will lead me out to Cerulean Cape, which is apparently home to a collector of rare Pokemon. I decide to pay him a visit... Which will hopefully end with him paying me. However, as I step onto the bridge, it's not a generic youngster that greets me, but Blue, black eye, broken nose and all. I grin at him. "Quiet, you!" he yells, completely nasal. I pretty much double over in laughter at this point. Blue goes red, and lets out a Pidgeotto. "My Pokemon are much stronger now..."

"My Pokemon are more powerful than yours." Oh, how I love my references. I toss out Hardan, who buries Pidgeotto, Abra, Rattata AND Charmeleon under a large pile of rubble in no time flat. I blacken Blue's other eye for symmetry, and rifle through his wallet. I also take a device called a "Fame Checker", allowing me to record gossip on celebrities. I didn't know Blue was into that sort of thing. Go figure... I pocket it, thinking I can hock it later. (Turns out, I can't. The thing's completely worthless.) That done, I tackle Nugget Bridge. Sporran does most of the work, since he seems a little restless, but he gets backup from Hardan where he needs it, mostly against the Rattata which are now packing Hyper Fang. A move I do NOT want him to experience, after seeing it slice a bridge post in half. The long way. "Those are some badass mice," I grudgingly remark back at the Pokemon Centre, before I go to collect my prize.

As it turns out, Nugget Bridge is actually an initiation exam for Team Rocket. The guy at the end asks me over and over to join, not waiting for a response each time. Freak. I eventually get fed up, thwack him in the groin, and take the precious golden Nugget. Myyyyy precioussss... One Nugget to rule them all... Ahem. Continuing along Route 24, I pick up a CD, which can somehow teach my Pokemon the Attract move, and a gentleman who "saw my feet from the bridge". Maybe I should rethink these shoes. Anyway, Sporran beats him down, and then glows brightly. He soars into the air, at least TRIPLES in size, becomes overall a hell of a lot more intimidating. A Fearow. He promptly leers at an approaching Weedle, before jabbing his beak straight through it. Jesus. It almost makes me crap my pants, but it's totally awesome!

For Route 25, I let a very angry-looking Seedan out of his Pokeball. Perhaps he's hurt about not getting to participate in the beatdown on Blue. Perhaps he just didn't sleep well. Whatever it is, it makes him go completely APESHIT. He tears through the eight or so trainers almost single-handedly, learning a new move, Razor Leaf along the way. It beats the crap out of Vine Whip, power-wise, and anything he can't carve up gets summarily tackled to at least near-death. He takes a near sadistic pleasure in this, a stark departure from his normal level-headedness. I begin to wonder if this journey's good for him. Or if he's bipolar. Could be either. Soon enough though, we reach Bill's house, discovering inside... a Clefairy. "... Whut," is the only reaction I can muster. The Clefairy begins to explain that it's a teleportation experiment gone horribly wrong, and he's actually Bill, but, I don't listen to most of the details, as I'm restraining Seedan from whaling on him. Bill then commissions me to put him right, by pushing a series of buttons on the computer... A computer which is currently being torn to shreds by Seedan's new Razor Leaf. I facepalm and recall him. Bill simply stares in horror. I start to back away, and then realise... "You're a freaking Clefairy, what can you do?"

One extremely lucky Metronome later, I agree to find a man named Clint, reputed to be travelling on the S.S. Anne. Bill gives me a ticket to get on the luxury liner, and gives me a week to get Clint back here. If I don't, he'll Meteor Mash my face in. Super...

P.S. For those interested, Bill's Metronome came out as Outrage. Unpleasant.

Part 2

The first thing I did upon returning to Viridian was a trip to the gym. The old man looking suspiciously into the window informed me that the leader was gone, and pointed me in the direction of Pewter City where the Gym Leader Brock was.

I needed more Pokemon. Kerblooie was good, but there was no way he could cut it against Brock. After a quick trip to the Poke Mart, I wandered into a route nearby Viridian, away from the forest and near a mountain. I walked into the tall grass and a small Mankey appeared before me.

"Perfect!" I said, happy that it was something that could defeat Brock. Go, Kerblooie! My Pikachu ran in front of me to battle the pig-monkey. "Use Thundershock!" A small bolt of electricity ran through the Mankey, wearing it down. The Mankey leered at Kerblooie in response. Wasting no time, and not daring to risk killing it, I reached into my pocket to pull out a Pokeball, and I tossed it at the beast.

1....
2....
3....
*tic*
It was mine!

"I shall call you... BALLPUNCH!" Yet again, my childishish whims got the best of my naming abilities.

Traversing through Route 2 and the Viridian Forest, I caught a Rattata (Rattatat) and a Metapod (Opaque), both of which proved to... not be very useful. Kerblooie and BallPunch tore through the trainers in the Viridian Forest. When I found my way out, I caught a Nidoran(f) in the grass, and named it RANRANROO. (Yes, I realize now that I was still technically in Rolute 2, but I didn't realize that at the time. :[)

My Pokemon were hurt, so I went to the Pokemon Center. The woman at the reception desk looked eerily similar to the one in Viridian.

"Umm.... Have I met you before?" I asked innocently.

"No." She said flatly.

"But.. I could've sworn that I saw you at Viridian..."

"You are mistaken. May I heal your Pokemon to perfect health?" I nodded and gave her my four Pokeballs and Kerblooie. I began to worry about how she said that -- What were they really doing to my Pokemon? Professor Oak said it was ok to heal them here, but I didn't understand why I should even trust them. The Pokemon Centers were, to the best of my knowledge, run by the government, so why couldn't they use the same kind of mind control as they put in Potions? Before I could ponder that any more, she returned my balls and Kerblooie. Kerblooie looked up at me and smiled, and I knew he was OK.

Brock stood at the end of the Gym, staring at me when I entered. He smirked. I felt as though he already knew all there was to know about me from just a glance, and he was mocking me. He finally broke the silence by asking: "Are you here to fight me, Challenger?" I nodded. "Haha! So, you think you can best my Rock-Hard Pokemon? Most Challengers these days show up with just pathetic bug Pokemon they caught in the forest. Or... heh... a tiny Pikachu!"

Kerblooie sparked and growled in response. "Calm down Kerblooie," I said to calm him down. "He has a point, you can't touch his Pokemon at all."

"Ha! Well, you're smarter than you look, aren't you?" I stared at him without flinching; I wasn't about to tell him that I had only just learned that from the referee near the entrance. "Let's get started."

"Go! Geodude!" The Pokemon he released was a rock with arms and a face, and it looked rather silly.

"Go! BallPunch!" Mankey lept out of the Pokeball and pranced around. I knew that Fighting types had an advantage against Rock-Types, and BallPunch was my only hope to beat Brock. Brock cringed at the sight of the Fighting monkey -- he knew that it was not going to be an easy win. "Use Low Kick!" I commanded. BallPunch ran up and sideswiped the Geodude with his feet, knocking it sideways. Geodude flinched. "Low Kick again!" BallPunch obeyed, and in the next instant, the Geodude fell over.

"Hmph. Lucky flinch. Geodude, return!" I cringed, remembering what Professor Oak said about "fainted" Pokemon. But then I realized how many times over Brock's Pokemon must've been KO'd already, and he was working for the ones pulling the wool over everyone's eyes. "Go, Onix!" His Pokeball expelled a towering figure, reaching the ceiling: a ferocious rock-snake! How was I going to beat such a thing?

"B-BallPunch, return!" BallPunch retreated to his Pokeball. "You can do it, RanRanRoo!" My Nidoran cried in shock at the sight of the giant Onix. "Don't worry Ran!" I assured it. RanRanRoo regained some of her composure, and faced the beast bravely.

"Onix, use Bide!"
"Growl!" I knew that, for BallPunch to be safe, I would need to manipulate this Onix's stats. Onix was stuck in Bide, which gave me the perfect opportunity to continue to use Growl. Soon, his attempts at attack barely scratch RanRan, so I sent out Rattatat to lower its defense with Tail Whip. The Onix flopped around helplessly. To finish it off, I sent out BallPunch. "Low Kick!" After two more hits, the beast was down.

"What?! No way!" Brock was beside himself with anger. Well, it wasn't exactly anger, I guess it could be called disgust. "Bah. I guess you win, kid. Here, take this. It's the BoulderBadge. It's proof that you beat me." I took it. The BoulderBadge... I knew that in all actuality it meant next to nothing, but something inside of me felt a great excitement. Kerblooie cheered. "Well, you don't have much else to be doing here, so if you'll please..." He kicked me out.

After healing at the Pokemon Center, I went on to face my next obstacle: Mt. Moon.
----------------------
Team Pokemon at this point:
KERBLOOIE - lvl 10 Pikachu
BALLPUNCH - lvl 12 Mankey
RANRANROO - lvl 9 Nidoran(f)
OPAQUE - lvl 4 Metapod
RATTATAT - lvl 5 Rattata

FireRed: Still on hiatus.

Ruby: Well... I was going well, but it all fell apart at Tate & Liza. I went in underprepared (~Level 38 on everyone), failed to catch a Sharpedo, and my Pokemon were largely weak to Psychic. (The team was Blaziken, Tentacruel, Altraria, Loudred, and Swalot.) Thought I could kill off one, but I failed and Lunatone got a Calm Mind up. +1 Psychic pretty much tore me apart.

RESTART

This time I picked Mudkip, and named him Pimpkip. Pre-Roxanne was mostly smooth, but I lost three Pokemon: got crits on Silcoon and Whimsur and accidentally KO'd them, and Nincada fell to a crit while training.

By Dewford I desperately needed team members. All I had was Pimpkip, Scrap the Zigzagoon, and NOT Scrap the Pickup slave. Got past the first floor of Granite Cave and ran into a Mawile; caught it but it ate all my balls doing so. Picked one up on the way, delivered the letter and went to Slateport and caught an Oddish.

Team:
Pimpkip (Marshtomp) Lv. 17- Mud Shot / Water Gun / Mud Slap / Bide
Scrap (Zigzagoon) Lv. 13- Headbutt / Tackle / Tail Whip / Sand-Attack
Jasmine (Mawile) Lv. 11- Bite / Fake Tears / Astonish
Rafflesia (Oddish) Lv. 13- Absorb / Sweet Scent
NOT Scrap (Zigzagoon) Lv. 5- Tackle / Growl / Tail Whip / Cut

Dead:
Deer Tick (Nincada) Lv. 8- Cut / Harden / Leech Life / Scratch

Once I get everyone up to a good level, I'm blitzing my way to Mauville, slaughtering the gym and getting me a good Pokemon one way or another (Numel or Machop; doesn't matter, both are good).

So now that I could use cut, I decided to head back into the forest and north into some big old creepy building. While in there, I caught a Gastly and named it Booberry, while picking up some useful items. The place seemed pure evil, so after looting it, I headed back to town and went east to a big ass mountain. While in there, I caught another Machop and named it Punchy. Headed south, but some jackass stopped me, telling me I needed a bike. Went to the bike shop, turns out the owner went to Team Galactic's building. Of course.

Fought my way up to the top of the building, where the pink haired (what. the. heck.) commander lay waiting to fight me, but ChuckNoris and Zoobee took care of her post-haste. The Bike shop owner thanked me, gave me a bike, and i headed south along the cycling road. Along the way, a bunch of bikers challenged me to pokemon battles. which was wierd. Who wants to fight with pokemon while riding bikes? It's almost as stupid sounding as Card Games on Motercycles. I beat them, and when i got to the bottom of the giant... ramp... thing, I went under it and caught a Ponyta named Silver.

I reached a cave. not wanting to spelunk on an empty stomach, I started dinner.

My Pokemon:
Chirpie Level 17 Kricketune@Silverpowder/Impish/Growl/Cut/Fury Cutter/Leech Life (Caught on Route 202)

At great risk of this being the name of the "expansion" to Gen 5, I have decided to change the name of my log to Pokemon: Grey. This represents the greyscale of the old monochrome Bogart films on which the mood is based, and it also speaks to the somewhat grey morality of the protagonist and of Pokemon battles generally.

So I return from a week's hiatus with a double header, since my parsing system makes me want to split these up into pretty short ones:

Pok
émon: Grey Version

PART 10

I took my time getting back to the Pokemon Center. I was low on rolling papers, so I ducked into the Poke Mart for a look. It was cool, with glass cases and neat rows of merchandise, like they'd like to think it means they're real professional, when really it just means they don't get much business.

Maybe with good reason, once I saw the broad behind the counter. She was a real half portion, looking bored and sassy at the same time, which I only just realized was possible. The cig from Falkner's place was just dying in the corner of my mouth.

"Pack of smokes, dollface."

"I ain't yer dollface. And looks like you make 'em just fine yerself."

"I'm a real entrepreneur. You got them or not?"

"I got 'em."

I laid the salad on the counter. "Those shelves back there self-serve, or what?"

"Bossy, are ya?"

"If asking for what you paid for is your idea of bossy, folks must be blowing their wigs to shop here."

She winced, or maybe it was a sneer, I didn't know. "You telling me how to do my job?"

"So you do have one, then. I really am a detective."

I reached over the counter and grabbed the smokes myself, never breaking eye contact with her.

"Hey, by the way, you seen a real smooth dame pop through here the last couple days? A trainer, with a real mouth on her."

"Ya mean 'sides you?"

I smiled at that. Then I walked outside and bit on one of those smooth, clean cigs. It tasted like ash.

PART 11

When I got to the Pokemon Center, it was a different nurse on duty. I gave no reaction, either to her or to the doggy bird chilling by the counter, his pointless labcoat dusty from travel. I just handed my Pokeballs across the counter for a quick rest.

"You must be Sam." Like he hadn't seen me around the lab a hundred times.

"Yeah."

"I have this egg."

"Yeah."

"Look. I just, well, we found out that the egg has to be with other Pokemon in order to hatch."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. So just, I mean, will you take it?"

"That's it?"

"That's it."

He took the egg out of his bag, and I gave it a decent look for the first time. It was white, covered with blue and red spots and shapes.

"Just call Professor Elm when it hatches."

"Sounds like a plan."

He walked out in a hurry, wanting to get back to New Bark pretty quick I guess. I wasn't going to hold him up. I put the egg in my bag, then took my Pokeballs back from the nurse. I let Smoke out.

"We got a new egg friend here."

"Chiko."

"Oh, you and me both."

I walked outside and saw the sun much lower, resting on top of the trees. I thought about the look on Falkner's face when his Pidgeotto died. I smoked that storebought cigarette down to the butt, then threw the rest of the pack into the trash can outside the door.

"Look, Smoke. You're the butter and egg man around here. If I'm going to get this shamus gig to halfway through the first number, it's no more flimfammery, you wise? You're the brains."

"Chiko?"

"Hey, you put me on point, like as not, I'm only going to check for clues back at that nurse pip's place."

Smoke just padded quietly along, north then east, headed for the far exit of the town, which we'd seen on the way to the gym before. I was getting used to the rhythm of his steps and the odd smell of his leaves mixed with my tobacco.

Finally, I smiled. "Besides. I'm not cut out for your soldiering game, you know? Flat feet."

Chapter 14: We Meet Again

The large metal doors at the end of the hallway lead into the board room. The room is extremely large, comparable to that of the first floor lobby. A long table cuts through the center. Three people sit near the far end of the table. One is an old man. Could he be Silph Company's president? Next to him is a young girl; probably his secretary. The two of them appear to be listening nervously to the third man, the leader of Team Rocket. Giovanni makes a gesture towards the old man, as if to pause their conversation, then stands and turns to me.

"I knew it wouldn't be long before we saw each other again, Bob. The look in your eyes tells me you've suffered greatly since the last time we've met. I hope this doesn't mean you've lost your will to fight."

"Let's just get this over with. I don't give a shit what you're trying to do here, but it's gotten in the way of me getting Saffron's gym badge."

"Right down to business I see, or are you just trying to keep your battle lust under control after running into that friend of yours?" Giovanni throws out his first pokemon, a Nidorino. I respond by bringing out Lopez. The Nidorino sprints down the room at its opponent, and at the last second turns around, and quickly kicks its hind legs into the Snorlax. Lopez stumbles backward, then leans forward, lowering its head. It then dives forward, slamming head first into the Nidorino, causing it to roll across the room and into a large metal filing cabinet along the wall. The small purple beast fails to stand back up, and Giovanni recalls it, switching in a Nidoqueen in its place. Before it gets the chance to act, however, Lopez leaps into the air, a rather surprising feat for something its size, and lands on top of its new foe, flattening it underneath its massive bulk. The impact of it landing nearly breaks the floor out from under us. Lopez stands up, and on the floor is a severely wounded Nidoqueen, which Giovanni immediately calls back into its pokeball.

"Amazing! Even a docile pokemon like Snorlax becomes an aggressive beast under your control!" Giovanni laughs as he summons a Rhyhorn. The large rock beast charges into Lopez, but the Snorlax grabs the beast with its massive arms. Lopez then slams the Rhyhorn down onto the floor. This time the floor breaks from the impact, and the Rhyorn crashes straight down through all ten floors between the board room and the lobby, landing with a massive crash into the large fountain lobby. Giovanni runs over the edge of the whole, and aims his pokeball down the hole, recalling the Rhyhorn. He then brings out the Kangaskhan he used in our previous fight.

"Let's end this fight now Lopez!" I shout to my companion, and the Snorlax bellows as he charges toward the Kangaskhan, jumping easily over the hole in the floor from its fight with the Rhyorn. The Kangaskhan brings its arm back to wind up a punch, but it's too low. Lopez crashes into its opponent, the force blasting the Kangaskhan out the window of the building. Giovanni quickly holds out a pokeball, recalling his pokemon before it can fall to the streets below.

"It appears I've lost again." Giovanni says calmly, then turns to the old man he was speaking with before. "Looks like our little business deal is over, Mr. President, this monster here has taken out my 'tools of persuasion' in this negotiation." He turns back to me. "I bet your father would become quite proud of what you've become, boy." Again he mentions my father!

"Did you really know my father?!" I shout at Giovanni, who simply nods. I start charging toward him in a rage "How did someone like you know him? Tell me!" Before I can reach him, Giovanni jumps out the hole in the window his Kangaskhan crashed through. I run to the window and look down, but see nothing. Once again Giovanni is gone, leaving me only with more questions.

Oh wow, I'm going insane...

So Yellow fell through. I'm not Nuzlocking if I can't abuse speedup, sorry. So, in it's place, I'm playing... firered omega.

You know, the hack that's the FR eqivalant of Emerald 386! And I called the person who tried that insane!

Yeah. Working on the first part.

I'll definatley do this! On Emerald probobly. I'll give a report after every gym. wish me luck (:
EDIT: I will be doing this on Shiny Gold, a Pokemon Gold Remake on the GBA (obviously a hack)

@ Res Ipsa Loquitur and EvilBob

Awesome (: More!

Doesn't this take A LOT of grinding, by the way? I'm doing a regular playthrough on HG/SS and stuff just faints every now and then... There's critical hit hax, flinch hax, exploding Weezings, 'you can't escape!' messages, unexpected super effective hits et cetera. Doesn't it get tedious? o:

Grinding is unneccesary. I have 7 badges on Ruby (I am underlevelled but nothing major) and i;ve had two of my main team knocked out (experience wasted) but its enough to keep you through the game. I've barely fought a wild Pokemon since I got my 3rd badge. The exp.share is your best friend.

Aye, I've missed those stories Res. And Bob, I know it's been said but don't worry bout your lengths, the story is awesome man.

Yeah. Working on the first part.

*Sighs* I lost at Brock's gym. My Route 1 pokemon and Viridian Forest pokemon (Rattata and Caterpie) both fainted, and while grinding for brock, my Viridian City pokemon (Dodou) fainted. So I had this team.

Wilber the level 11 Elekid, had Quick Attack, Thundershock, and Karate Chop. My Starter.
Shiela the level 12 Shelder, had Bubble, Icicle Spear, Lick, and Tackle. Caught at Pallate town with the Old Rod.
Kip the level 11 Skitty, had Tackle, Attract, Tail Whip, and Growl. Caught west of Viridian.
Trey the level 11 Treeko, had Quick Attack, Tackle, Leer, and Absorb. Found on Route 2.
Shoryugget the level 11 Torchic, had Ember, Focus Energy, and Scratch. Found in a Gatehouse between Viridian Forest and Route 2 (north).
Udonotliek the level 11 Mudkip, had Water Gun, Mud Slap, and Tackle. Found in Pewter.

It was all going fine... until his Rhydon got a Crit Flamethrower on Trey. Then his Kabuto devistated the other two Hoenn starters, leaving me with a weakened Shellder, a ground weak, and a supporter against a Dig Onix.

Finally, I get a chance to upload my Nuzlocke challenge data; school suxs, majorly.
Heart Gold Nuzlocke Challenge
The rules I play by
1. Catch the first pokemon you see in a new area. If I did not have pokeballs when I saw the pokemon, tough nuggets
2. Fainted pokemon means dead pokemon, and shall be placed in purgatory( to be traded if it is a starter/ important pokemon) or released ("buried"). If reduced to 1 hp when poisoned, it dies...
3. Nickname all pokemon (I won't forget... Mind like a steel trout!)
4. NO ITEMS OUTSIDE BATTLE EVAR!! (except TM'S and HM'S)
5. I will be able to buy 5 items per town each revisit. ( A revisit means after one gym battle...)

Prologue:
The Mysterious Ginger Kid...

Yawn... I had that dream again... That oddly vivid one where some old guy ask me about who I am, and sends me into some world... I stretch and jump out of bed, and watch my television, hoping for the news. As I reach my channel, I here my mother from downstairs...

"Ezekiel!! Get down her!" I cringe as she yells my real name... I hate my real name; I prefer the name "Zeus," my father's old nickname back when he was a star trainer. I grab my red jacket and my black and gold hat, and walk downstairs, where my mom is waiting for me. "Ahh there you are son!! Prof. Elm was looking for you.." I nod and immediately head for the door. "Wait! Wait! Take your bag and trainer license!!" She hands me a bag to carry my stuff, and I slid my trainer license into my wallet, and head outside.

"Marill!! Marill!!" I fell something roll into my legs. Its a marill, as if it was obvious... The little blue ball jumps in the air a few times before my neighbor Lyra grabs the marill.

"Sorry about that Zeus... Oh yeah! Prof. Elm was looking for you!!" Lyra pardons her pokemon, and quickly runs away, somewhere out of town. I sigh, and head towards Elm's lab, where I see a mysterious boy. I creep up behind him, and listen to him mutter something about being the strongest, and quickly run into the trees when he turns around. I sneak behind him, and enter Elm's Lab, where Elm is chatting with some french w- "pokemon expert."

"Ah... Zeus I was looking for you!! I need a favor. You see that container over there It holds three pokeballs! Now I have an acquaintance by name of Mr. Pokemon. He has some new discovery, and asked me to come see it. Would you mind to go in my place?" He paused for a second. I minded. In fact, I minded very much so. How come this lazy arsehole just can't go himself. Right as I was about to answer, Prof. Elm butted in.

"I knew you couldn't say no!! Now choose a pokemon from the modulator!" I sigh, and touch the modulator, and it opens. I pick up one ball, and opened it up. A cute little cyndaquil pops out, timidly staring at me. I look at her, and immediately full in love with her.

"Come on Ophelia!! Let's go visit home tell mom!!" With a nod, Ophelia follows me home, where mom hands me my pokegear. I ignore her directions and ready my first real adventure.

"To Cherrygrove!!" I yell as I set out, only to be stopped by Elm. He gives me his number.

"Call me if anything comes up!" He winks and runs back inside. Thoroughly freaked-out I continue on the road to Cherrygrove...

Chapter 15: Muscle and Mind

Two days have passed since my battle with Giovanni. Saffron has become a much brighter city with Team Rocket gone. The few members that I didn't already take down while in the Silph Co building ran out of town as soon as they realized their boss had fled. Business is running as usual now in the city, and the gym has finally reopened. On the way to the gym though, I end up taking a small side trip.

"Fighting Dojo. Currently accepting challenges from Pokemon trainers. Prize for defeating the master: One Fighting Pokemon." I read on the sign above the door. "Well, no way I could pass up a free pokemon," I think out loud as I enter the building. The interior of the dojo is a single large room. Spread out of different mats across the dojo are both humans and pokemon sparring. All eyes turn to me as I walk across the dojo floor.

"Hey, I'm here to get that free pokemon the sign out front mentioned." I say with an arrogant tone in my voice as I ask across the floor, "mind just giving it to me and saving everyone some time?"

An old man in a black and white gi in the back of the dojo rises to his feet. "Don't be so hasty, child. That pokemon will only be given to trainers that prove they are worthy!" The fighting pokemon in the dojo begin to walk toward me. Soon I'm surrounded by a circle of Mankeys, Machops, and Machokes.

"This is only going to be a waste of time. Fighting types can't touch my pokemon." I pull out one pokeball, and casually toss it on the floor. The pokeball opens, and Murray, the Gastly I caught in Lavender down, now evolved into a Haunter, flies out. A Mankey dives at Murray, swinging its arms wildly, but simply passes through the ghost. The Haunter holds out a ghostly hand, and a dark ball of energy flies at the monkey, who spasms in pain as the ball makes contact. The process continues for several minutes, each fighting pokemon making a futile attempt to attack the ghost. Eventually, Murray is the only pokemon left standing, or floating in its case. The master steps forward.

"So someone managed to actually capture a ghost from the Pokemon Tower? Interesting. It's going to take more than that though to beat a master!" The old man throws out a pokeball. The pokemon it releases is nearly human looking, with large boxing gloves at the end of its slender arms. "Hitmonchan, attack!" The master shouts to his pokemon as it charges at Murray. Right before impact, the Hitmonchan's glove catches on fire, and Murray is hit with a blast of flames, causing the ghost to howl in pain. "Do you understand now, boy? Not even a ghost is safe from Hitmonchan's attacks!" As if to demonstrate, the Hitmonchan repeatedly jabs at the air. Bursts of ice, fire, and electricity fly from its fists.

"Murray, return!" I shout as I call my pokemon back before it takes anymore damage. "Elemental punches, huh? I think I can match that." I grab another pokeball off my belt, and throw it down in front of me. Jose emerges, it's three heads squawking loud as it charges directly at the fighting pokemon. Hitmonchan puts its fists up to parry the attack, ice forming around one glove-shape hand while sparks of electricity arc around the other. "Jose, Tri-Attack!" Hitmonchan reaches out its fists to strike at two of the bird's heads, but ice and lightning shoot from their beaks, matching the elements surrounding the hands they connect with. Unfortunately for Hitmonchan, two fists isn't enough to parry three heads, and the Dodrio's middle beak breathes fire as it connects with its foe's head. Fire engulfs the fighting pokemon, much as it did Murray, only this time the fire is too much for its victim, and Hitmonchan falls.

The old man says nothing as he recalls Hitmonchan. He throws out another pokeball, and releases another fighting pokemon. This one is an odd looking one, with no mouth, and springs for legs. The pokedex identifies it as Hitmonlee. "Hitmonlee, take out that bird." The master issues his command to his new fighter. The pokemon's legs extend as in launches a high speed jumping kick at Jose.

"Quick, evade it Jose!" Jose hears my order and quickly leaps high into the air. Hitmonlee passes under the bird and crashes into a wall. "Dive down and finish him!" I shout and Jose dives straight down at its opponent as it recovers from hitting the wall. Three beaks strike in unison, and Hitmonlee is down for the count. After the battle is over, the old man gives me a choice between the two Hitmons as my free pokemon. Not sure which to go with, I flip a coin. Hitmonlee. I decide on the nickname 'Miyagi' for my new companion as I walk victoriously out of the dojo.

-

With my side trip out of the way, I finally head to the place I came to Saffron to go to in the first place, Sabrina's Gym. Walking into the main door of the gym leads me to a room that's empty except for a small circle of light. Cautiously I step into the light. Suddenly I find myself in another room with more circles of light. I pick a circle of light and run onto it. Another room. More lights. This goes on for what feels like forever, until I'm finally in a room with no more circles aside from the one I entered on. In the middle of the room, a tall dark haired girl sits on the floor in what looks like a meditative pose. Her eyes are closed, but yet I still feel like I'm being watched.

"Are you here to challenge me, Bob?" A voice in my head speaks. "I am Sabrina, the psychic gym master. I can tell you've already suffered greatly on your journey, and you will face even more losses before your journey is complete." The girl on the floor floats up in the air as she continues speaking, then lowers her feet to the ground.

"No, I will never allow myself to let another of my companions fall."

"Then you underestimate the forces you will face. The League's strength is not something to be taken lightly." Sabrina speaks with her own lips this time. A pokeball sitting on the floor rises into the air, then opens. A Kadabra appears on the floor between me and Sabrina. I respond by bringing out Jose. Sabrina and her pokemon's eyes both begin to glow as the Kadabra begins its psychic attack. Jose is too quick for them; the bird's beaks connect with the Kadabra before it's able to launch its attack. The Kadabra falls and Sabrina kneels down in pain, possibly feeling her pokemon's pain as a result of their mental link. Kadabra's pokeball, still floating in the air, opens once more, and the Kadabra vanishes. A second pokeball floats into the air, and this time a large moth comes forth. "Venomoth, poison it!" Sabrina yells, unable to mentally link with the bug, or possibly choosing not to while she recovers from the pain she endured when Kadabra fell.

The giant moth begins flapping its wings and a purple dust begins to scatter through the room. "Fly above it, Jose!" I shout before covering my nose and mouth with the sleeve of my jacket. Jose flies up into the air, then swoops down at the Venomoth. The moment the bird's attack connects, the moth falls out of the air, and the poisonous dust dissipates. The second floating pokeball opens and Venomoth is called back. A third pokeball rises from the floor, and out comes a strange white and red humanoid monster. Not willing to see what this pokemon's capable of, I quickly order Jose to strike, and the three headed bird charges at its new opponent.

"Mr. Mime, put up a barrier to stop its attack!" Sabrina yells, still issuing her commands verbally. The Mr. Mime puts up its hands in front of itself as if it was pressing them against a glass wall. Jose's charge is stops at it crashes into the invisible wall formed by the Mr. Mime forms. Despite not being physically hit by the attack, the psychic pokemon winces in pain slightly.

"It can't maintain that barrier forever, Jose, keep attacking it!" Jose begins to continuously stab at the wall, its three beaks shooting forward into it like spears, increasing in speed as the assault continues. Eventually a cracking sound is heard, following by the crashing sound of unseen glass, and the Dodrio's attacks finally pierce the barrier, striking the psychic pokemon, who immediately faints. The third pokeball opens and summons back the Mr. Mime. A fourth pokeball rises and opens. An Alakazam appears. Sabrina's eyes glow as she once again establishes a mental link with her pokemon.

"The fight ends now!" Sabrina's projects her words into my mind once more. I point at the Alakazam, and Jose sprints forward at it. Sabrina and her pokemon's arms move in unison as they point their hands down to the floor. Jose falls to the ground as if it was being tied down. "Fight against it!" I shout, and Jose slowly begins moving forward across the ground, before finally diving at its foe, it's three heads breathing out its tri-elemental attack as it crashes into the Alakazam. Both pokemon and trainer collapse. As Sabrina pulls herself back to her feet, the fourth pokeball opens, recalling her final pokemon, then all four pokeballs fall back to the floor.

"I had known the outcome of this battle before it began," Sabrina once again speaks normally, "but your ability exceeds what I saw in my visions." A small yellow badge floats through the air from her hand to mine. "Do not allow yourself to become arrogant though, those at the League's headquarters, the Elite Four, have only once been defeated, and your ability is not yet at the level of the one who came before you." I quickly thank her as I recall Jose. I walk to the corner of the room I entered from. Everything goes white as I step on the circle of light in the corner of her room, and I find myself outside the gym, the light of the setting sun the only thing I see as I walk through the streets of Saffron City for the last time.
