"What the hell? This road too?" I mutter under my breath. The road heading west from Celadon, like the road heading east from Vermilion, is blocked by a massive rotund pokemon. Chim-Chim gives the large mass a few jabs but the pokemon simply begins snoring more loudly. Maybe some noise will wake it up. I pull the flute that the man in the pokemon tower gave me out of my backpack, take a deep breath, and blow into the mouthpiece of the flute. A loud shrill note fills the air, and I feel like my ears are going to jump off my head and run away. Chim-Chim rolls around on the ground, squealing in agony. The large bulk in front of me begins to bellow, a deep bass sound in contrast to the high pitched shrill of the flute. As Chim-Chim and I attempt to recover our senses from the awful sound of the flute, the giant pokemon slowly manages to stand up on its large feet, which look flattened under the tremendous weight they carry on the possibly rare occasions that the pokemon is awake.
"Snorlax, the sleeping pokemon." The pokedex's voice chimes out. The 'sleeping pokemon'? No shit. The giant pokemon, now fully on its feet, swings one of its massive arms at me. Thankfully, the pokemon is just as slow as it looks, and I step out of the way of its swing. Chim-Chim jumps up to the pokemon's relatively small head, and swiftly lands a karate chop. The Snorlax becomes disoriented, and falls over on its back. Right back in the middle of the road where it was before. "Dammit Chim-Chim" I sigh. Desperate to avoid using that flute again, I pull out a pokeball. The pokeball, bounces of the massive body of the Snorlax, but still manages to open up and draw the giant pokemon inside. A moment later, the ball lights up, then turns white and vanishes. I have six pokemon already with me, so the storage program in the pokeballs kicks in transporting the new pokemon to the league storage terminals until I decide to retrieve it at a pokemon center.
Night falls as I reach Fuschia City. The road between the Snorlax and the city was mostly comprised of a long downhill path. The trainers I came across on it referred to it simply as cycling road. Riding down the road on my bike was a run trip, the few trainers that stopped me posing little challenge. The trip became even more rewarding when outside the gates I ran into a large two-headed bird pokemon. The strange bird was easy to capture, with its pokeball being transferred to storage like Snorlax's was. Tired from the biking trip, I end up passing out the moment I walk into Fuschia City's pokemon center.
Two days pass before I go to take on the Fuchsia Gym, heeding Erika's warning about the strength of its leader, Koga. Most of the time was spent training the two headed bird pokemon. The pokedex called it a Doduo, but I decided to call it Jose. After a day and a half of letting Jose beat up any wild pokemon we run into, it finally evolved. Evolution made the creature even more bizarre, giving it a third head. I enter the Fuchsia Gym, finding myself in a large empty room with wooden floors and small thin windows running across the wall. Three trainers, all wearing black outfits, stand in the middle of the room, casually talking with one another.
"Hey!" I shout across the gym, "The Gym Leader here?" The trainers all turn to face.
"He's out at the moment, but we'll be glad to see if you're even worthy of facing our master!" The three trainers all throw out pokeballs, unleashing an assortment of pokemon. I call out Jose, who runs toward the trainers, its three heads breathing a combination of fire, lightning, and ice from the heads' long beaks...
The trainers stare at me and Jose in disbelief. The walls of the gym are covered in burn marks; shards of ice and wounded pokemon. Jose stands triumphantly in the middle of the room, his middle head shooting fire into the air. "Ah, an interesting opponent has shown up today." A calm voice comes from somewhere in the room. "Allow me to introduce myself." A tall figure steps out of the shadows in one of the back corners of the room. "I am Koga, master of ninjutsu and poison pokemon. Are you here to challenge me?"
"Yes," I reply to the ninja.
"This should be fun then, I hope you're ready." Koga's voice comes from behind me this time. I turn around to see him standing there next to me. I do a quick double-take, looking back at the corner of the room where he used to be in. I immediately jump back, putting some distance between myself and Koga as I recall Jose. Poison types should be no match for a psychic, I think to myself as I call out Tenma. Koga calls out a Koffing, and the match begins.
Tenma quickly proves too much for the Koffing, psychically bouncing the ball of gas off the walls of the gym. Eventually, the Koffing groans out in pain and begins to deflate. Koga sends out two more pokemon. One of them is a small pile of goo that I recognize from Mt. Moon as a Grimer. Next to it is a far larger pile of slime that must be its evolution. My pokedex identifies the evolution with the name 'Muk.' Neither goo monster can step up to the waves of psychic energy from Tenma, however, and soon the Kadabra is looking at nothing more than two purple puddles.
"You're good, kid, but it's time to get serious." Koga throws out his last pokemon, and a Weezing comes forth. The Weezing looks like little more than a couple Koffings that got stuck together, so I don't see how he expects it to stand up to Tenma.
"Tenma, psybeam that thing and let's wrap this fight up!" Tenma's eyes glow, and the air seems to shake violently around him. He puts one of his hands on his forehead, and a nearly invisible ball of psionic energy forms in front of him. The ball turns into beam of energy as it extends outward from the Kadabra, violently making contact with the large poisonous abomination. The Weezing flies backwards into the wall of the gym. Tenma turns to me, waiting for my command to return it back into its pokeball, when suddenly its struck from behind by a spray of dark purple acid. I look to the back wall of the gym, and the Weezing is still conscious, barely floating above the ground. "Tenma, use Recover!" I command frantically, but it's too late. Tenma's eyes stop glowing. No... how could I let this happen again? Enraged, I throw Jose's pokeball towards the Weezing, and a flurry of pecks from the bird's long sword-like beaks finish off the poisonous bastard.
The dark acid burns my hand as I desperately pick up Tenma, and run toward the door of the gym, hoping to reach the pokemon center while there's still a pulse of life in the Kadabra. I look down at the pokemon clutched in my arms and stop running. Tenma's eyes have already faded into a dull lifeless gray, and I know that he's already gone. Koga says nothing to me, and simply holds out a small badge in his hand. I remain silent as I grab the badge, and solemnly walk through the gyms door, Jose's trio of heads sulking as it follows me out of the gym.

The moon shines brightly in the night sky, giving the only light needed for Shiz to see our destination. The streets of the town are empty as we land, no normal person would be out this time of night. A large tower stretches up into the sky, blocking the stars. I slowly walk into the tower, and approach an old monk sitting in meditation on the tower's bottom floor. He guides me to a small tomb on the third floor of the tower, opening the slab covering the coffer. I place a large yellow pokemon inside the tomb, a small silver spoon still clutched in its hand. The monk pushes the slab back over the tomb's lid. I thank the man and walk back down the tower, as the old man takes out a small metal chisel. He leans down next to the tomb, and with the chisel carves the word 'Tenma'
