A Proud Mother! Kangaskhan Discussion!

Kangaskhan is not very well known as a threat or anything like that, but she surely has some option behind that belly that can make her excel.

Physical Side ~

Fake Out -

With It's high Base Attack, STAB and Choice Band, Kangaskhan can make a very good use of this, especially with no immunities thanks to Scrappy.

Crunch -

Crunch can hit Ghosts and Psychic for super effective damage and the chance of lowering Defense is always nice.

Outrage -

Superb in a Choice Band Set, as you will be coming and going with It.

Sucker Punch -

When you can't count on speed very much, Sucker Punch is a better choice than Crunch. Heck, It is almost always a better choice than Crunch.

Reversal -

Paired with Substitute and a Salac Berry, Reversal can be a very deadly move for It, as nothing is immune to It, thanks to Scrappy, It's Trait.

Focus Punch -

Good for predicted switches and such.

Return / Frustration -

Kanga's best STAB, overall.

Earthquake -

We all know this one. Powerful and Hits a lot of stuff super effective.

Brick Break -

If you don't have Focus Punch's skill or Reversal's Set up, Brick Break is always an option.

Aerial Ace -

One word. Heracross.

Shadow Claw -

Crunch with a different effect and better typing, but with lower BP

Avalanche -

Hardly a good option, but If you activate It, It hurts. A lot. Also, it can be used very well with Arm Hammer.

Rock Slide -

Weak, but It's attacking type is always good. Flinch Hax is good for a CSc Set.

Arm Hammer -

Good as a better substitute to Focus Punch and Reversal than Brick Break, not to mention It works well with Avalanche.

Special Side ~

Do you care? 40 Base Special Attack don't help at all. Well, if you are interested, it's massive, Surf, Ice Beam, Focus Blast, Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt and so on...

Support Side ~

Roar -

Good for some Phazing. It's always there.

Substitute -

Awesome with that base HP. 101 Subs for the win.

Toxic, Swagger.. -

Kanga has better things to do.

Move Sets;

Kangaskhan @ Choice Band
Relaxed; 152 Defense, 252 Special Defense, 104 HP

-Avalanche
-Sucker Punch / Crunch
-Fake Out / Return / Frustration
-Arm Hammer

377 HP, 259 Defense and Special Defense. The rest is standard. A Tankish Sweeper.

Kangaskhan @ Leftovers
Impish; 212 HP, 92 Defense, 192 Special Defense.

-Substitute
-Focus Punch
-Shadow Claw
-Return

101 Substitutes. 244 Defense and Special Defense. Ghost + Fight = No resistance. Doesn't pack that much of punch, but you can take some EVs from Defense and Special Defense for Attack.

Kangaskan @ Choice Scarf
Adamant; 252 Attack, 220 Speed, 36 HP

-Brick Break / Focus Punch
-Shadow Claw / Crunch
-Return
-Rock Slide / Outrage

CSc Sweeper.

Kangaskhan @ Salac Berry
Adamant; 108 Speed, 212 HP, 188 Attack

-Reversal
-Substitute
-Return
-Sucker Punch / Random Filler

Subs + Salac + Reversal. You may want 216 for 4 Subs and higher Reversal Base Power.

Discuss. My apologies If this has already been done.

Kangaskhan has the unique property of being able to hit Ghosts hard with Normal/Fighting moves. For this reason alone, he is perhaps the best counter for leads such as Gengar and Spiritomb with Fake Out/Arm Hammer/Crunch/Substitute? Give it a Lum Berry, and you've no need to worry about Hypnosis on the second turn.
Also, Fake Out is awesome for nullifying Focus Sashes at the beginning, as well as being covered against starter Heracross for example.

Rest + Early bird is pretty unique to Kangaskhan, allowing him to rest for half the time as normal. That should at least be mentioned.

Kangaskhan is not a proud mother, I have no idea what that thing in its pouch is. Don't tell be It's a baby kangaskhan 'cause the last time I checked, when a kangaskhan egg hatches at level one It's got that thing in its pouch.

That aside, Kangaskhan is a great pokemon.

Here is my "Shao Khan" set.

Kangaskhan @Focus Sash
Jolly
Evs: 252 att/252speed/4hp
Fake Out
Sucker Punch
Counter
Reversal

Fake Out and Sucker Punch provide priority (with Fake out giving stab). Counter to get a kill in and fully power up reversal. 90 speed is good against everything slower, fake out and sucker punch is good against everything faster.

I might actually use one of these someday. . .

That's got to be the coolest Focus Sash moveset since FEAR! :)

By the way, isn't Kangaskhan a bit weak for the Choice Scarf set?

Silly Mantyke. It's obviously one of those scorpions that is born pregnant. Its pouch is really a see-through womb.

I've fought against a Choice-Banded Fake Out Kangaskahn before, and that thing was very annoying. I think its a viable tactic.

Well, in my true opinion, the thing in its pouch is a doll, that only moves as an extension from the 'mother' Kangaskhan.

I actually think the opposite Cyan. Ive noticed that the "baby" seems to move slightly before Kangashan does in the animation. Thus leading me to believe that the "baby" is the Puppet Master, while Kanga is the Puppet. Like Cait Sith from FFVII :P

I thought it was a scorpion. D:

Kangaskhan is good and I will use it:

Kangaskhan @ Choice Band
252 Attk/252 Speed/4 Hp Jolly
Fake Out
Earthquake
Focus Punch
Return

Improved ADV standard CB. It was UU, now it's easily BL.

I have a powerful kangaskhan In my leafgreen version I have yet to import, and revampt its moveset to use in this generation. I'm horrible at making movesets though (as my first RMT indecates) so don't be suprised if this sucks out loud

Name: Gangiskhan
@ Choice band
Att/252 Spd/252 HP/6
Adamant
-Return
-Crunch
-Brick break
-Earthguake

You don't say. I've never even heard of the last move.
Seriously though, nobody can give an opinion unless you post EVs, IVs and nature to see what suits it best, or whether it is even worth keeping at all.

He said it was good. And Mantyke isn't an idiot.

And wtf, it's CBKanga. EVs are a given: A little HP, the rest in attack and speed, Jolly or Adamant.

I'd use Fake Out somewhere, maybe over Crunch.

Really? I'd definitely keep Crunch (remember it's third gen, so no Scrappy).
Also, Fake Out with Choice Band is retarded, so an Item change is a must.

Nice build..

lvl 1 Khangaskan@ focus sash
evs don't matter
scrappy
Endeavor
sucker punch
(filler)
(filler)

Same thing as FEAR except it can hit ghosts. So it's better. Endeavor is an egg move.

Crunch would be next to useless on Kangaskhan in ADV <_<
Actually, Kangaskhan can't learn crunch in the 3rd generation, I'm talking about a kangaskhan choice band set for the fourth generation based on my kangaskhan from the ADV. Crunch was shadow ball in the advanced.

100th Post!!!
and it's only been a little over a weak since I joined.
