Super Smash Brothers Brawl Discussion #3

If I've noticed anything about Metaknight, it's that his Nair is amazing. It's probably his strongest aerial, and it hits in all directions. Excellent for ending a combo.

The Meta Knight vids I've seen will all WoP people near the kill zone, which I can do about half of the time (f-air generally sends people where you think it would), but also push people down and spike them against the stage with D-air. Which I can't figure out, like, at all -- that move sends people fucking everywhere.

So basically I'm doing great until the important part -- when they're off the stage. At which point I just can't get a hang on where the moves are sending people.

king dededes is harder to avoid than you say.
lucas and ness's is easy to avoid, but you WILL get hit at least once. usually.

not true
just ask maku
at least for ness

the funny thing about ness's FS is that if one hits you, it hits you up, TOWARDS the focus point. that makes others easier to hit you, and one hit can lead to two, three, ten hits off the top of the stage. It's not terribly hard to get star ko'd with ness's. lucas's just eats ass.

though, ness's can be avoided on stages like the great sea by jampin' to the left or right and chillaxin' in the water.

It's pretty simple, actually. Attacks always send the foe in the direction opposite they were attacked in. If you strike their left side with the dair, they'll fly right. It you strike their right side, they'll fly left. It's always relative to where you hit them. It's also the reason why attacks send you the "wrong" way, sometimes.

I'd just like to post and say that this day i have become a man.

I finally beat Boss Battles on Intense.

For anyone that cares, i'm,
98% Subspace Emissary
121 out of 128 challenges completed
255 out of 258 songs collected
613 of 700 stickers collected
521 of 543 trophies collected
All event and Co-op matches completed
Multi-man Brawl completed with all characters
All-Star completed with all characters, all difficulties
Classic completed on all difficulties, with all chars
All target tests completed, all chars, all difficulties, with each speed challenge met
Boss battles completed on all difficulties

Wow Stranger, you're serious about this, but i envy you i can't beat stupid Intense boss battles mode :(. And i have like 494 trophies, 500+ stickers and beat classic and all star with everyone, but just in normal difficulty (did hard, very hard and intense just with one per game to get challenges).

In SSE i got 94%, but haven't played that much.

I have a lot of challenges completed, but i haven't count how many i need, i've got the Cruel Brawl ones already though. All of beat certain time on target smash, distance with home run contest and etc.

Anyway, i want to improve my Mario, i haven't played that much with him but my main question is: what's the proper way to use F.L.U.D.D.?, what can i do with it?.

I've completed all challenges. Which means I've done everything in the game basically =(
Granted my file had two people working on it, mostly my older brother though.

although i cant speak from personal experience, i did hear that it can fuck up a lot of recoveries, by pushing them as they try to get back on the stage. some recoveries, like lucas/ness', and pits, are cancelled when the water hits too

extremely situational, i know... not really a good move overall =(

Can some1 make a Video thread, just like the Screenshot thread? That way we can find them easier, and perhaps cause interesting discussion on character strategies based on character moves used in the videos.

Jesus Christ, Stranger...and now that you've done just about everything there is to do in the game, what on earth are you gonna do until Super Smash Bros. ^4 comes out? I mean, just fighting computer players and playing Wifi matches is bound to get boring, even for you, after a couple of years or so, right? I mean, I hate to have to say you have no life, but seriously, you're not making it easy for me not to.

Fludd is total crap.

As a ness user, fludd will almost never connect with me. Due to the nature of brawl, many attacks now launch upwards higher than diagonal. Ness players honestly RARELY have to use their recovery to get back on the stage.

I have a couple of questions about Smash in general, and since this is the only forum I'm on, I'm asking here.

Anyway, my questions:

First, what exactly is Pikachu's Thunder Jolt (neutral special) used for? To me, it just seems too slow and weak to do anything useful other than dealing with items from a distance (hitting shells, getting rid of motion sensor bombs)

Second, do competitive players actually use Kirby's copying powers? I don't think I've seen any videos with Kirby where he uses them apart from videos made purely to show off his new hats.

Well i am one of the less "competitive" guys around here, but i play Pikachu at times and i use it just to damage the opponent (duh) from away, kinda to force them to back off, works well on those that have to draw close. At times you stuck the opponent enough to smash him in the face.

That's the use i give to it. Of course like i said, i try to develop my own style, i don't know how others use it

Long Distance assaults, Semi-camping/spamming, semi gimping up recovery moves.

I don't know the answer myself but I suppose it could be used in a competitive fight...not so much though. Don't know the reason behind the lack of Copy power.

i use kirby alot and copy ability isnt all that useful, but it is sometimes. firstly, some characters are just good to have copied to have an extra attack with, especially ranged attacks, which kirby has none. secondly, it can be used as a suicide move, kinda like yoshis egg lay. thirdly, having an ability is sometimes better than not having one, as accidently triggering it can have hazardous consequences.

kirbys copy move is mainly for flavour only... there are only a few powers worth getting (such as the spacies laser attacks, fire breathing moves, etc)

I imagine F.L.U.D.D. could be used in tandem with fireballs to help mario's approach, and putting some space between him and opponents who get too close.

Amirite?

Copy is kinda hard to land as well, and can leave you open if you mess it up, which is very doable. I would always keep it in mind against any character with a projectile(except Diddy, lol), and a few others(Ike is decent, particularly in a FFA, Zelda's a good steal, Peach might be, etc.) Kirby generally has better things to be doing though, especially in a 1V1.
