The Ground fights a lack of Bugs: Leader Its_A_Random vs. Challenger deadfox081

Status
Not open for further replies.
Well, here I am again. Being the only ref to ever travel here, I don't really care about the mud anymore. Its_A_Random now has his third official challenger, and the most experienced of them: deadfox081. He has only brought one Pokemon with a type advantage over the leader's type, which is fairly interesting. Now then, here are the rules and arena description:

4v4 Doubles (IAR brings 6, chooses 4)
3 Day Player DQ Time
2 Recoveries/5 Chills Max per Pokemon
2 Substitutions
Switch=OK
Abilities=All
Items=On
Sequences=Off
Turn Order=Coin-Flip
Arena=Earth Mausoleum
Arena: Earth Mausoleum
Field Type: Ground
Complexity: Intense
Format: All

Restrictions: No Natural Grass, Only Sandstorm & Clear weather permitted, Poorly-lit Indoor arena

Description: The Earth Mausoleum is a dark, desolate place inside a cave situated in a remote desert about 6km from the nearest city. At the entrace, you must proceed down a tunnel that is fairly dark, but is loaded to the gills with harmless Ground Type Pokemon, predominately Hippopotas & Sandshrew, even the occasional Garchomp lurking about the place. After your short walk through a prescribed route, you walk into a large, fairly well lit indoors arena, that looked very dull, but one thing's obvious; This was a Ground Type Paradise...
This arena has virtually the same dimensions as the ASB Tournament arena, but with a few differences. Firstly, the arena has mini-grandstands at the side, & the trainers stand on a Podium elevated up by 3 metres. Lastly, the arena ceiling is rather low at only 20m high.
Now, what does this arena have that gives Ground Types an edge? Firstly, The main arena floor is a hybrid of sand & dirt, mixed together to make a strange material that can easily be dug into. Additionally, the ceiling is low & creates a completely indoor feel, where Moves that require sunlight, like Solarbeam, & all other weathers bar Clear & Sandstorm, fail. Additionally, Pokemon using Sky Drop/Fly/Bounce fail to gain enough altitude to evade, that is, they become a normal attack. Next, there is a fairly large mud patch near the centre of the arena at about 10 metres in diameter, & goes to about 10 metres deep. This mud patch has a little bit of water in it, but enough to be considered an external water source, but in using it, the attack becomes combined with mud & becomes a Ground Type Attack. Additionally, anyone using the patch to dive are still vulnerable to seismic moves & get hit for double power.
Being a Ground Type paradise, how will the average player fare? We shall see soon enough...

Mechanics:
-Mud patches around the arena have enough water to be considered usable as an external Water Source.
--However, all the mud means that such attacks become Ground Type moves.
--Moves using these Mud Patches are also treated as Water-Type Moves for the purposes of Abilities such as Storm Drain.
--Pokemon hiding in Mud Patches, while retaining the normal properties of Dive (Bar Typing), is also treated as the move: Dig, for the purposes of moves like Earthquake, Earth Power, etc
-Sky Drop, Fly, & Bounce all work like they normally do, but they do not gain enough altitude to successfully evade attacks.

Summary: Ground Type Paradise.

I wonder what the challenger and his Pokemon will think of the mud and the sand... Anyway, onto the Pokemon!

First, the leader's Pokemon:

There's a lot of action to come this round, so let's get right to it. Its_A_Random already knowing about the icy attacks to come, Capers summons a force field to protect himself from the great damage. Chilla and Dracor both together create a current of chilling air, which hits Stortamus and slows him down greatly. Capers struggles to keep himself shielded, but he succeeds. Stortamus stomps on the ground to create widely spread seismic waves, which only hit Chilla, who is slowed down by the waves. Stortamus now puts up a protective screen, while Capers digs his way underground. Dracor attempts to launch ice from his mouth at Capers, but fails to find the scorpion-bat, who is still underground. Chilla creates a much stronger attack than before, this time with more snow and more powerful wind; this does nothing but his Stortamus' defense. Capers, realizing that all of the other Pokemon have made their moves, comes up directly underneath Chilla, hitting her with decent force. Capers quickly burrows back into the mud before Dracor and Chilla can once again create a freezing wind around the whole arena, which slows Stortamus down even more. Stortamus heats up his own maw until his teeth are fiery red, and then he bites Chilla with intense strength. Capers once again rises up again out of the ground, sure to strike Chilla on his way back to his side of the arena.

I can already tell that this is gonna be a pain in the ass for me. Chilla summons a protective wall, while Utilitand throws rocks at Chilla and Dracor with his many hands. One of the rocks hits Dracor directly on his nose, catching her off guard and causing her to pull back a bit. Tormeldon mimics his partner by shooting up some rocks from his humps at deadfox081's Pokemon. Chilla has been straining to keep the wall up, but then launches herself forward at Tormeldon and punches him with an icy hand. Utilitand touches Tormeldon with several hands, somehow transferring a lot of energy. Tormeldon spontaneously uses this energy to shoot fire and burning rocks up from his volcanic holes at Chilla and Dracor, knocking Chilla against a wall, leaving her unconscious. Dracor, however, keeps going, and just shoots a strong stream of water from her mouth at Tormeldon. Utilitand spins around and lets out a blue flash of light and a pulse of energy at Dracor, hitting her hard. Dracor once again tries to smack Tormeldon with water, but unfortunately misses. Tormeldon can do nothing but regain his breath from his fiery attack.

deadfox is correct. (12+2-1-2+3) x 2.25 =/= 27 Damage. (12+2-1-2+3) x 2.25 == 31.5 Damage. Still does not affect the final result of Syclant dying, however...

Sandstorm

Puncha has taken Chilla's spot, and the round is underway. Tormeldon quickly braces himself to take the worst of attacks, while Utilitand digs a tunnel underground with his many hands. Dracor uses the power of the water... err... mud around her and rushes at Tormeldon, but he is ready for much more. Puncha makes fun Utilitand for having so damn many hands, but Utilitand isn't even around to notice... until suddenly, he bursts out of the ground underneath Puncha and strikes him. Utilitand proceeds to throw an energized rock at Dracor, which somehow slams the dragon down to the ground, just as Puncha sends seismic waves through the ground across the whole arena, affecting the other Pokemon in an odd way. It seems that the waves are making them move more slowly. Anyway, Tormeldon uses his volcanic powers to crack open the ground under Puncha, and a brownish light shines up at him. Utilitand morphs himself into a wider version of himself, just in time to protect himself and Tormeldon as Puncha stomps on the ground with great force, accidentally hitting Dracor harder than anything else. In fact, Puncha knocks Dracor unconscious with this seismic attack. Tormeldon just smirks a little bit and repeats his last move, attacking Puncha with an earthy move. Its_A_Random now has two KO's (well, one and an assist, but ya know), but deadfox081 has none. However, Its_A_Random's Pokemon have all been worn out a bit, so perhaps the challenger will be able to turn things around.

Psycha is out on the field, leaving the challenger with no reserve. Utilitand quickly mocks Psycha for being so blobish and stuff. Puncha turns his fist an icy blue and punches Stortamus in the face, hitting a weak spot for extra pain. Stortamus moves slowly up to Psycha, and then attacks her with a big bite to the arm. Psycha, for some reason, throws a bunch of rocks at the Ground Pokemon, not for very much damage, although she hits Utilitand in a weak spot. Utilitand turns to the offensive, and cracks open the ground beneath Psycha and hits her with an earthy energy. Puncha once again hits Stortamus with a cold fist, knocking him out. Psycha now attacks Utilitand directly, throwing him around with telekinetic powers. Utilitand retaliates by drilling through the ground, towards and then right through Psycha. Puncha makes fun of Utilitand for attacking so weakly, while Psycha repeats her attack with psychic powers. The match looks much more even now than it did at the beginning of the round, although the leader does still seem to have an advantage.

I am pretty sure Counter will still work the way I would want it to work, despite it last taking Special Damage...I would like a re-order if not...

Sandstorm

Oh jeez, I can already smell the end of the match is starting to approach... Utilitand starts off by digging a tunnel in the ground with his many hands, while Capers prepares to summon a lot of energy. Puncha turns his hand an icy blue once again, this time using it to hit Capers; Psycha follows up by tossing Capers to the ground with her psychic powers. Utilitand pops back up from the ground underneath Psycha and hits her with his momentum. Capers suddenly releases that energy he was building up directly back at Puncha, slamming him all the way into the wall of the arena, leaving him unconscious. Capers follows up by relaxing his muscles and regaining his breath, while Utilitand releases a dark, shadowy ball of energy at Psycha. Psycha replies with a nice, cold punch to his face. Capers dashes about the arena very fast while Utilitand reenters his tunnel in the ground. Psycha, unsure what to do with this situation, just tries to punch the evasive Capers, but misses completely. Utilitand once again bursts up into the air from underground while hitting Psycha. Although Its_A_Random now has two very weakened Pokemon, it looks like coming back would be very difficult for deadfox081.

"Alright Tormeldon, time for you & Capers to push for game!"

Switch Phase: Utilitand > Tormeldon
deadfox081 has no reserve.

Capers: Taunt (Psycha) > Bug Bite (Psycha) > Earthquake
IF Protect is issued successfully without transfer, THEN use Chill that action, pushing actions back.
IF Magic Coat is issued successfully vs. Taunt, THEN use Bug Bite that action, pushing actions back.

Tormeldon: Endure > Flamethrower (Psycha) > Flamethrower (Psycha)

"I'm not sure how much this can be attributed to the Hydro Pump miss, but it certainly didn't help."

Tormeldon once again braces himself for anything and since Psycha cannot do the same, this is gonna be the end. Capers mocks Psycha for being so disadvantaged, and she cannot help herself but to punch Capers in his smug face with a frozen hand thing. Capers replies by biting her (why does everyone like to bite Psycha super-effectively...). Tormeldon spews a blast of fire at Psycha, who continues to punch Capers. Capers uses his earthy powers to shake the entire arena, knocking out Psycha (and Tormeldon too if it weren't for Tormeldon bracing himself), thus ending the match. With an end score of 20 HP vs. 0 HP, this was quite a close match, despite deadfox081 only netting one knock out.
