itt you rate the Final Fantasy games. [tl;dr]

That's right! You rate each of them and you write a quick, small review. I thought this would be fun to do. The only rule is: if you haven't played it, obviously don't rate it. It's ok if you played and didn't finish them, though.
Also try to do at least the main games (ie. from I to XII), but you can include all the spin-offs if you want (Tactics, Tactics Advance, Mystic Quest (lol), Crystal Chronicles...).
Also try not to spoil too much of the game. If you must, try do it in a way that only the people who played a game know what you're talking about.

Final Fantasy: The game that started it all. I have only played this game on the GBA, and to be completely honest, it is too simple and sorta linear. You only get 4 characters, and each only get a 'class-promotion' once, so it may be kind of boring for some (like me). Therefore, I give it a 4/10.

Final Fantasy II: Sincerely, I have never played this game much. I really disliked the leveling system. Based solely on what I played, which was something like 15 minutes, I would give it a 3/10, but that wouldn't be fair. N/A

Final Fantasy III: Never played this one. N/A

Final Fantasy IV: This game talks about the story of Cecil, the Dark Knight, and his struggle against his own empire. One thing I disliked in this game through all the time I played though, is how your party kept changing and how most characters you had in the beginning (before Cecil's change) were mostly useless. I like to have stable party members. I'm sure it gets better after a while, but, based on how far I played, this game gets a 6/10 from me.

Final Fantasy V: The worst part of this game is how the characters are pretty uninteresting. The good part, however, consists in the revolutionary job system (which FFIII had). You only get 4 characters, but the diversity in all the jobs make up for it. Not to mention every character looks different on each job! That's the highest point of the game in my opinion, it's fun and very customizable. This game also manages to bring the first game's 'warriors of light' theme, only much better. It also sports the first appearance of the known villain, Gilgamesh! 7/10

Final Fantasy VI: I have played this game many times and I still like it (I have never finished it though, due to a problem on my roms that made it impossible to continue further... this was also why I played this a lot of times) It follows Terra, a young sorceress brainwashed by the Empire. This is the first game to focus on espers/summons, and it did it pretty well. The esper system strikes a resemblance to FF7's materia system, sorta. I liked what I played and someday I will finish it... for good. 8/10

Final Fantasy VII: Legendary FF7. I'm gonna be honest and say this game doesn't appeal to me much. One of the main reasons of that, I think, is how I pretty much knew 85% of all the story before even starting to play. The Materia system is fun though, and Limit Breaks break the battling routine very efficiently. The one thing I dislike about this game is how shoddy it looks on the overworld! The battles' graphics and the FMVs are good but the world models are just ugly. Still gets a 8/10 from me due to its originality and gameplay. Would get a 9/10 if I hadn't ruined the story for myself.

Final Fantasy VIII: Seeing Squall on Kingdom hearts really made me want to play this game. I was thoroughly disappointed on the magic system though. I simply hate the concept of having to draw magic from your enemies and 'junctioning' them to your stats. That means if you use magic too much, your stats will go down unless you keep refilling magic, and that's pretty boring. The game looks very good however.. Squall and Seifer and cool, the Gunblade is an awesome weapon and I like to press the button at the right time to make that extra flare come out. Not to mention no more shoddy overworld models, and the Guardian Force system is really good too, but, again, it would be better sans the 'junctioning magic' thing. I wanna give this another chance someday... 6/10

Final Fantasy IX: This is my favorite FF game, hands down. Graphics that aged pretty well, good characters, good story (until the final boss that is), awesome FMVs, good ability system, lots and lots of sidequests, references to older FFs. And Quina. Re-playing it atm for the 6th time. 10/10

Final Fantasy X: I was a bit disappointed with this game's story because I was expecting some gigantic plot twist and it just... never happened. Awesome battling system, FMVs and voice-acting are what make this game what it is. And Aeons were beautifully done too. 9/10

Final Fantasy XII: I would like to complete this game before giving it a note or reviewing it, but I'm liking it so far. N/A

Heh. So much for 'small and quick' reviews. You people better read this shit and post your own or I will rip your throats. If this thread is well-received I might as well post my thoughts on the spin-offs too.

I'll just do the main game entries that I've played. I use a scale with 5 as an average score; hence the scores may seem a bit skewed.

FFI: great game, even with its graphics. Garland was a beast. Also, had some great dialogue; including the gem "there's nothing in this well". 6/10

FFV: Meh. Pretty good. I didn't like it as much as either its older brother (FFI) or younger siblings, but it wasn't terrible. 4/10

FFVI: Great game. Kefka was a badass clown that turned into a giant fucking angel. CRAZY overworld graphics for the SNES. Awesome. 7/10

FFVII: Really awesome, but a little overdone. I remember playing this back in '98, trying to figure out what the fuck to do and how to get Vincent. The plot was pretty good, and it's the sort of game that brings hardcore nostalgia out to me. 9/10

FFVIII: Pretty much the same as above, exvept this was my favorite FF, hands down. The story... the characters... the scenery... everything seemed perfectly fit for my tastes, and the soundtrack certainly helps. 9/10

FFIX: Was okay. I didn't finish this one, but it wasn't quite to my liking; not enough character development for me, and the introduction of Kuja seems like... I don't even know. 6/10

FFX: Really good, but could have been much better. The storyline was good and so was the setting, but the mindfuck near the end was too MUCH of a mindfuck, and left most people going "uh. what?". Also, Auron is awesome. 7/10

FFXII: Shit sux. I really, really hated this one. The storyline was a steaming pile of political shit, the character development was nil, and it felt far less polished than any other FF I've ever played. Characters sucked, and the sound quality was retarded. Also, the new battle system was... terrible. 1/10

Neither of you guys played III? its the only one I've played, i got it for my DS, its pretty amazing, the job system is cool, i hear the best is VII though, well, thats what my friends say :) :) actually, i watched my friend Traian beat Ruby Weapon (am i right in thinking he was called that?) he looked hard as nails! he used knights of the realm (again, could be wrong) summoning spell :) lol he was obsessed!

Final Fantasy: It was a great game, it was hard, and it was new. It was a leap forward over Dragon Warrior which was prior to this game, the main game associated with the genre. Anyone that played Dawn of Souls and pretend he's played FF1 is just kidding himself. Dawn of Souls is an absolute joke, the real game is not. 8/10

Final Fantasy II
: Sadly I played this quite late so I cant even add a nostalgia value to it. I really disliked the leveling up system, it was terrible. You needed to get hit to gain HPs, which meant you could hit yourself to level up your HPs. And leveling up spells sucked too. Easily scores the lowest out of them all. 3/10.

Final Fantasy III
: I played it late too, not on the DS though.I should play that remake one of these days. It wasnt that bad and it was the start of the job system. Unrefined but fun none the less. 5/10.

Final Fantasy IV
: I really loved this one. It was probably the first game ever in the history of video games with an actual ongoing continued through the whole game story. Playing this when it came out was like RPGs reinvented. This game changed the way vgames were made thereafter, it deserves huge credit, more so than FF1 for starting the serie. 9/10

Final Fantasy V
: An actual and disappointing step back from IV. From a kick ass new genre storytelling RPG it went back to a more basic, oriented on character building rather than story game. This game feels like Im playing a 2nd hand RPG like breath of fire or golden sun. Jobs are fun, the rest isnt. 6/10.

Final Fantasy VI
: The best FF. Im not sure how much nostalgia value blinds me when comes time to rate FFs, (even though I played FF1 & FF4 before this one), but I always find myself going back to FF6. It is a perfect game, there is a ton of characters, most of which were decently developed. I've heard a lot of people dont like the 2nd half but I havent had it ever bother me. This is still my favorite RPG and one of my favorite games of all time. 10/10

Final Fantasy VII
: Believe it or not, I played all FFs before this one. Well all besides FF12. And I knew from the start a great deal of the story so spoils probably affected my playthrough. However I can say I loved most of the game. All besides the empty spot chasing Sephiroth from when you leave the first city to where the real actual story with Cloud begins. 9/10

Final Fantasy VIII
: This game is hated but I dont think it is as bad as it is sometimes portrayed to be. It was enjoyable enough for me to finish it. I'd have to say however it felt nothing like an FF game. I also liked Seifer. 7/10

Final Fantasy IX
: I will also give a perfect mark for this one. It went back to the earlier genre when it comes to jobs and character design and that really sold the game for me. Out of those I played recently (within last 5 years, see FF7to12), this is my favorite one. 10/10

Final Fantsy X: The game seems short, I did get deeply into it but it seems like there could have been more. The sidequests dont feel that gap. Yuna is a sweetheart. 8/10

Final Fantasy XII: Could have had more cut scenes and the characters werent as interresting as there could have been. Ivalice is set in a world where many races cohexist, I am not sure why they felt they needed to have 5 humans out of the 6 useable characters. It seems like there could have been more variety. No random battles was however, quite a plus. 8/10

I haven't played a bunch of them but I'll rate the ones I've played.

Final Fantasy IV: The second Final Fantasy game I've played. This is the only RPG I've ever played where the main character isn't retarded, and that's a plus. Cid was awesome, as were most of the bosses. However, the first couple of characters you get can do nothing but cast spells so the beginning of the game is pretty annoying. 8/10

Final Fantasy V: Ugh. This game has awful characters, and the plot is really not interesting at all. Still, the job system is fun. 5/10

Final Fantasy VI: This game is plain awesome. There are a lot of complaints about the World of Ruin but it never was a real problem for me. Most of the characters are really cool, the story was nothing incredibly original but still good enough, and some of the lines were hilarious. I also liked the Esper system. 9/10

Final Fantasy IX: This is actually the first Final Fantasy I've ever played. Again, the story is nothing special but it's not incredibly boring either and while most of the characters have pretty lame designs they all had their strong points, with some exceptions. Maybe thanks to the nostalgia factor (how long until some FF nerd bashes me for calling a PSX game nostalgic?) this is my favorite Final Fantasy game. 10/10

Final Fantasy XII: While there were no major plot twists, which is kinda lame because I absolutely didn't want to have such a lame piece of shit villain for last boss, the rest of the plot was actually pretty cool. No random battles was of course a plus, and even though the license system could be pretty annoying at times it was no big deal. The only thing keeping me from giving this a 10/10 are the characters. Two of them have absolutely no reason to be there at all, and like Vineon said with at least 4 "intelligent" races in the world there should have been more diversity. 9/10

Final Fantasy I-III: N/A

Final Fantasy IV: 6/10

FFIV was fun, but at the same time, could be hard if you weren't at a specific level. It is actually a game I find that you have to power level during some points, otherwise you'll find yourself running away a lot. I wonder what will be changed though when FFIV DS is released. News said it'd be graphical over haul, with some major game play additions/changes.

Final Fantasy V: 5/10

It's more of a slow paced game. Low Level was easy though, as levels were ignored in the game. Just master classes and that's it. Boring.

Final Fantasy VI: 10/10

In my opinion, it's the best Final Fantasy game in the entire series. Good plot line, crazy villains, plenty of things to do after a certain point. Tough at certain spots. Animation was quirky and was pretty silly. Finger waggling anyone? I liked how you could get magic for all of your characters. FFVI deserves to get the DS over haul. Not any other game for pete's sake.

Final Fantasy VII: 8/10

Aeris dies, blah blah blah. Cloud isn't truly himself, Sephiroth is a freak, WHERE'S MY MATERIA?

Final Fantasy VIII: N/A

Never played it. I heard is sucks balls though.

Final Fantasy IX: 9/10

Graphics for its time were excellent. Characters were pretty good too. Not much I can truly say.

Final Fantasy X: 4/10

The battle system sucked balls, slow movement, and sphere grid... why? WHY?

Final Fantasy XI: N/A

Never played it, don't like MMORPGS, Paying monthly fees to play sucks.

Final Fantasy X-2: 5/10

More like Final Fantasy Dress Up. At least the game had a solid battle system and experience returned. Sphere grid, why?

Final Fantasy XII: N/A

Never played it, but it acts more like a single player MMORPG. Plus, it's in Ivalice.

Final Fantasy Tactics: 0/10

I've never played a Final Fantasy game that blew chunks so far. It's really more of a brand name game to sell it. Tactical strategy isn't worth it, too many character choices, battles get hard too fast early on. Gotta waste a lot of time too trying to trigger normal battles to get your characters to level up.

Final Fantasy Tactic Advance: 0/10

See Final Fantasy Tactics, only use Ivalice and waste of time.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: 0/10

Brand name to make Nintendo happy. What the hell is up with this game anyway?

Deck's Retro Rantings:

Final Fantasy I: I have it on Origins. I've never beaten it. It's original difficulty is ri-damn-diculous, and its adjusted is hi-high-larious. This started it all, so it gets cred for that. 6/10.

Final Fantasy II: Also on Origins, also never finished it. It requires far too much powerleveling and bug abuse just to get through it. 3/10.

Final Fantasy III: Never played it, EB never has the DS version when I go.

Final Fantasy IV: Truly beautiful. This was the start of the FF Formula we all know and love: complex characters, thrilling storyline, and badass villians. This game started my fanatical love of Dragoons with Kain. 9/10.

Final Fantasy V: The Job System was well done and this was arguably the first FF that allowed for challenge games. Personally I liked the story and Exdeath was a quite competent villian. This was also the first FF game where you could essentially make your chacters demigods. X-Fight Duel Wield Blood Swords M I RITE! 7/10.

Final Fantasy VI: The mother of then all. Kefka is and will remain the greatest villian in videogame history. "This is sickening! You sound like chapters of a self-help booklet! Prepare yourselves." Combined with an unheard of 12 characters and an instense and involved storyline, and this is the king of the hill. Sephiroth can kiss Kefka's shiny metal ass. 10/10.

Final Fantasy VII: This game was hyped as hell. It does get major cred for being the first 3D RPG, but it is not the substance of the gods it is made out to be. I've played nearly all the FF games, and the only ones Sephy beats are the cookie cutter villians in FF1 and 2. The rating it gets is in spite of Sephiroth, not because of it. Thank Proud Clod. 8/10.

Final Fantasy VIII: Personally I found the Junction system intriguing. If you know how to work it, lets just say Meteor 100 powered attacks bury everything in the early game, especially if you're using Zell's overdrive. I recommend a game guide with this, if you don't know what you're doing you could be badly boned. Another thing I liked is that enemy progress grows with your own, so its actually better to fight Omega Weapon at Level 10 instead of Level 80. A game that actually punishes powerleveling is to be congratulated. 9/10.

Final Fantasy IX: A good little game. Despite being dressed like a proud mary Kuja was actually a competent villian, and I liked the way the Black Mages tied into the story. Lots of Nostalgia invoking moments and the Crystal system kepyt your characters from attaining demigod status. 7/10.

Final Fantasy Tactics:

First, forget that this is a Final Fantasy Game. It is not an RPG, it is a Tactics game in the make of Fire Emblem. Then, proceed to appreciate the awesomeness of it as this is potentially the best Tactics game of all time. Combine LOL localization errors with a still engrossing story and keep the demigods out until roughly chapter 4 (Hi Orlandu) makes for a fun experience. Like all Job games, this spawns an infinite number (OK, maybe 26) of challenge games of varying difficulty. I particularly enjoyed the time delayed spells and the Faith/Alignment system. 10/10.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: Appreciate it for what it is, a portable tactics game in the Final Fantasy Mold. Its fun in a car and has the same challenge game aspect of any FF job system game. I recommend a Soldier Single Class Challenge. Some have called the storyline "kiddie," but they are only looking skin deep. 7/10.

Final Fantasy I This was my first Final Fantasy game, so I have pretty fond memories of it. It's the simplest game out of all of them, extremely linear, and a very basic story. It's a cool concept, but having played some of the later games I don't like this much anymore. 6/10

Final Fantasy II I really don't like this one. The aforementioned leveling up system is atrocious, and I never knew where I was going or what I was doing. I probably got through about 4% of the game before I quit, and I just couldn't see it getting any better. 3/10

Final Fantasy III It's like a better version of 1, which is pretty cool. Job system was introduced, two different places to explore, pretty cool game. I loved it at first, but it got kind of overwhelmed by later games I played. 7/10

Final Fantasy VI Who doesn't love this game? This has an amazing story that will actually reach out to you emotionally. It deals with suicide, lost love, and drama you'll be surprised to find. But damn, this story has everything. Humor, drama, and action drive this game along so perfectly it wouldn't even matter if the gameplay sucked. Fortunately, it doesn't. The gameplay fucking rules. No two characters are truly the same; no more of this job stuff, each character is their own little class that have different abilities. Edgar can use tools like chainsaws and drills. Sabin uses fighting style blitz moves to lay the hurt down. It's all balanced, too, none of the characters I've used really suck. The esper system, when you understand how it works, is immensely useful. I love this game a lot, I probably made this longer than it should have been but Final Fantasy VI is definitely my favorite game in the series. And before I forget, the graphics deserve mention as probably the best on the SNES. 10/10

Final Fantasy I (NES) 7/10
The third FF game I played. Simplistic characters and dialogue, not to mention a four-character limit on the names. I liked the plot, though some points in the game had you ?_?. The hardest Final Fantasy game I've played.

Final Fantasy II (GBA) N/A
I did not play the NES version of this game. The GBA version is supposed to have a toned down level of hardness. I must admit the leveling up system left a lot to be desired.

Final Fantasy III (NES) N/A
Hell yeah :3 The first FF game I played. Unfortunately I could not complete the game as my copy of the game was an imperfect fan translation.

Final Fantasy IV (SNES) 9/10
This was one good Final Fantasy game. The plot was decent, good dialogue overall (some of the lines are etched down in gaming history), not to mention awesome music. The final boss was a joke. Recommended if you are starting with the FF series.

Final Fantasy V (SNES) 8/10
Slow and glum plot aside, this game kicked ass. Good length combined with the return of job system makes this game worth playing. Tough boss.

Final Fantasy VI (SNES) 10/10
Fuck yeah, this game is awesome! The best characters in the history of Final Fantasy, combined with music that was well ahead of its time. The esper system in Final Fantasy VIII is partially inspired by this one. Seriously play this one if you haven't.
Anyone who thinks Kefka was awesome should burn themselves.

Final Fantasy VIII (PS) 6.5/10
Universally hailed as the FF with the most retarded lead character, and correctly so. Fantastic music. Plot was good save a few moments that could've been skipped, characters sucked balls, magic system left a lot to be desired.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES) 10+++/10
SERIOUSLY GUYS THIS GAME IS AWESOME! CHARACTERS COME AND GO WITH THE WINDS, AND ARMOR THAT AUTOMATICALLY EQUIPS ITSELF, NOT TO MENTION THE MOST UNDERDEVELOPED MAGIC SYSTEM IN ALL FFS!!1
Realistically though, I'd give this one some 4 out of 10. The music was good, though.

im gonna have to agree with most stuff vineon said as well as his rates. ill add my own points to some.

Final Fantasy: It was a great game, it was hard, and it was new. It was a leap forward over Dragon Warrior which was prior to this game, the main game associated with the genre. Anyone that played Dawn of Souls are pretend he's played FF1 is just kidding himself. Dawn of Souls is an absolute joke, the real game is not. 8/10

Final Fantasy III
: I played it late too, not on the DS though.I should play that remake one of these days. It wasnt that bad and it was the start of the job system. Unrefined but fun none the less. 5/10.

ive yet to play this game.

This is still my favorite RPG and one of my favorite games of all time. 10/10

one of the reasons why this game stands atop all other ff games is that you actually feel emotion throughout the story, not alot of games can do this.

vastly different opinions here. this game is good, but not great. the story up to the point where you leave midgar is great, then it just crashes. the overworld sprites were pretty awful (why are the hands 5x bigger than the arms :S), most of the characters themselves were dull and unintresting. despite all this though its still a good game and id rate it 7/10

Final Fantasy VIII
: This game is hated but I dont think it is as bad as it is sometimes portrayed to be. It was enjoyable enough for me to finish it. I'd have to say however it felt nothing like an FF game. I also liked Seifer. 7/10

ive only played about an hour of this game, good graphics, everything else sucks. for the hour i played it i would give it a 4/10.

Final Fantasy IX
: I will also give a perfect mark for this one. It went back to the earlier genre when it comes to jobs and character design and that really sold the game for me. Out of those I played recently (within last 5 years, see FF7to12), this is my favorite one. 10/10

ive only played this game for a bout 4 or 5 hours (like ff8, it was a rom both crapped out early ><). its was a pretty good game, too much focus on non-battling. up to the point i stopped id rate it a 7+/10 (i felt it would get better as it went on thus the +)

No random battles was however, quite a plus. 8/10

Finaly Fantasy X-2: i enjoyed this game, almost as much as FFX. the biggest problem with this game is that it was WAY too short. 7/10

Final Fantasy Tactics: needs more frameskip. 7/10

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced: this is a good game guys, cmon... 7/10

Final Fantasy XI: havent played

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: havent played

Final Fantasy Revenant Wings:not released yet. i dont have high hopes for it.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest: shit.

I'm doing it for you, Doomsday :P

Final Fantasy I: The first, it was pretty interesting. Although later on in the game it did start to get repetitive (sp). This gets a 6.5/10.

Final Fantasy II:
Not good at all, but I've only played the GBA version. The leveling was crap. Didn't play this one all the way through. 4/10

Final Fantasy III:
My second favourite. The storyline was excellent, and the remake on the DS just made my overall view of it better. The job system was new and interesting. 8/10

Final Fantasy IV:
Good game. Not great, but good. This game was, I think, the beginning of the Final Fantasy Formula, badass characters, badass bosses, and a badass plot. 7/10

Final Fantasy VII: IMO overrated. Cloud was a retard, Sephiroth was cool though. The minor characters were cool, and the girls added to the goodness of this game. 8/10

Final Fantasy X: Ironically the first Final Fantasy I played. Chocobos, Tonberries, a lead with a cool sword, a sport to play, this game is hands down my favourite. 10/10

Final Fantasy X-2:
I didn't like this one, but at least Yuna got a gun :P The storyline was absolute crap though. 7/10

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced:
Fun game. I just happened to get my Soldier named as Nobel. He is now a Fighter wielding the twin swords :) 9/10

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles:
Good storyline. The magic system was fun, but it did get boring after playing 1-Player so much. Also the music was gay. 6/10

And that's all I've played.

FFI: For being so incredibly simple, I found it very fun. I first played it on an emulator, so using the framerate skip really helped if I ended up weak and needed to level. My only gripe is that at times, at was nigh impossible to know (guess) where you had to go next. 7/10

FFII: The leveling was very annoying. My roommate got really far, and then couldn't finish because he didn't level himself appropriately. I finished for him, just because. 4/10

FFIII: I played it on a rom when I was much younger, but it went to Japlish halfway. I don't own a DS so I doubt I'll be playing it anytime soon, but what I did play was fun. 6/10

FFIV: Oh man, this game was so much fun. The party changes were great, it just made sense that while you move along on the overall quest, you'd bump into likeminded individuals who would help you while you help them. 5-person parties were awesome, I really miss it. (Fuck, we aren't even given 4 anymore.) The other thing that makes this game great is that people die... well, kinda, the only one who doesn't come back alive is Tellah, but it's just more realistic that not EVERY good guy makes it through unscathed. 10/10

FFV: I'll be honest, the job system bores me. The story doesn't really interest me too much either. 4/10

FFVI: The first half of this game is a 10/10, without a doubt. Great story, best game villain ever. Second half, though... eh, 5/10. Somehow Celes becomes the main character, and you get Locke back last... I don't like it that every single person can learn every single spell, it makes everybody the exact same. Overall, 6.5/10

FFVII: I enjoyed the game a ton the first time I played it, but now when I try to go through it again I find some parts tedious. A good story though, very involving. The death of Aeris is an alarming and memorable storyline twist, really defined the game. Materia was fun and annoying at the same time. 8/10

FFVIII: Ah, I've come to it. The largest steaming pile of dogshit FF there is. The story is contrived and ridiculous, the characters are boring and one-dimensional, and the drawing/junctioning system is so irritating that it's nearly unplayable to me. The only FF I started and consciously decided not to finish (38 hours in). 0/10

FFIX: This one was fun. Back to a 4-person party, the trances were really cool and the way you learned spells and skills as you went on was good. There were 2 or 3 useless characters, but just having them around was cool. Story was great, I'll never forget when that one guy starts destroying all those dolls and the airship during that gorgeous FMV with the slow music while Vivi watches. 9/10

FFX: Revolutionary in graphics and FMVs. The story was fun to watch unfold, and someone up there said there were no twists... I thought it was full of twists! I just got my roommate to play through this game, and he's no big on RPGs but he loved it. The sidequests are fucking retarded though, I mean, who in their right mind would think of dodging 200 lightning strikes in a row just to see what happens? 8/10

FFX-2: They never made a sequel until this one, and for good reason. I know everyone who beats an RPG game wonders what happens after the game is over... well, this game shows that it's better left to the imagination. The characters are cartoonish (they made Brother a pathetic (BAN ME PLEASE)), the mission-based story is dumb, and the main storyline is boring. I award Squenix no points, and may god have mercy on their soul. (The battle system was pretty fucking cool though. 2/10

FFXI: Fuck MMORPGs.

FFXII: I'm about to finish this game, and I've decided it was a waste of 50 bucks. There's barely any cutscenes/dialogue, and although the FMVs are gorgeous there's just not enough substance to the game. At first, I played it for hours straight just battling because the system was so much fun... but now I'm to the point where it's annoying, the license board is a joke and the fact that I'm collecting loot to sell is retarded, if I wanted to play an MMORPG I'd go sell my soul and get one. 5/10, unless the rest of the game is amazing.

In order from worst to best:

FFII
: The game is too damn hard and the levelling system is too damn stupid. On the NES at least. The Dawn of Souls version is much more tolerable, but the game as a whole is still a bit... mucky.

FFI: Intolerable on the NES (INNFEFECTIVEs) and somewhat on the GBA (changed character balance makes thinks wonky). The Wonderswan Color version is delightful, though.

Crystal Chronicles: Notable for its art direction and swanky music. You actually can have fun in the 1 player mode if you try- albeit the game will feel quiet and flat, like going to the movies by yourself.

FFVIII: The only PSX FF I've played. I might've just been blinded by "wow! 3D Final Fantasy!", but I liked it in spite of its flaws. It's horrifying, gaping flaws.

FFIV: GBA version ruined this easier-than-easytype difficulty (the ATB glitch that stopped enemies from having turns doesn't help)... Get the JP hardtype version.

Tactics Advance: Why do people hate this game? Gets an A in my gradebook, it's funner when you're doing powerruns.

FFIII: Badass game no matter which version you're playing. Great job system.

FFV: Best job system ever makes for the best Final Fantasy ever. Well actually, it's tied with FFVI as my favorite FF.

FFVI: What can I say? Best graphics of any SNES game, engaging story, great villain, and overall perfection.

So far I've only played VII (on PC, much later than release actually) and III on the DS.

Loved VII and understood what the hype was about. 9/10

Thought III was a steaming pile of dog turd. Thought the job system was silly and often wasn't worth changing to better class, hated the ridiculously hard bosses, the necessary and repetitive grinding, and mostly the lack of save point available in dungeons. Dieing to the hard boss only having to repeat the last 30 mins of gameplay does not fun make. 2/10

Final Fantasy 1: A true classic. A game that was so hard in some spots you actually felt like you accomplished something when you beat it.

Final Fantasy 2: Utter crap. This question isnt wether or not the leveling system was bad, but how many illicit drugs were consumed during its creation. I played it for a grand total of about 15 minutes.

Final Fantasy 3: This game was good for nothing other than trying to figure out what the hell an "Onion Kid" is supposed to be. No don't tell me i am afraid to know.

Final Fantasy 4: Epic, the first one to have a real story was also one of the best ever. So many cool characters. Although the the plot was a bit rushed at the end it still was a classic.

Final Fantasy 5: Took the job system from 2 and used it in a game that was actually playable. I never finished it, but i had fun with it always.

Final Fantasy 6: I haven't played this one everyone says its the best but to be honest, with elder scrolls and such around i find it hard to play anymore FF games.

Final Fantasy 7: At the risk of causing a mob of fanboys to attack me, Causing me to go into burly brawl mode and beat them all to death with a stop sign in slow motion, This is NOT the best PS1 game (Metal Gear Solid is.) I enjoyed it mostly but as usual in Squaresoftm they made the plot a bit too convoluted and some plot twists were not needed. Sometimes, its better to let the plot follow a straight line other than introduce a new plot twist every 9 seconds.

Final Fantasy 8: The plot was convoluted as hell but the gunblades made up for it. Although the most illogical weapon in all of fiction (even more illogical than yuffi's tire iron) I never got it. Is there a hole at the end for the bullets to travel through? Why not just use a bayonet? Nevermind.

Final Fantasy 9: I didnt play this much at all i stopped immediately after Quina was introduced. What a dumbass idea for a character. Not Even the frying pan/fishing pole weilders from chrono cross were that stupid.

After this time, morrowind came out and ever since then i cant play final fantasy because it seems childish compared to the elder scrolls games. As far as i am concerned, FF is dead because they havent done anything really original with it since the SNES era. If im wrong tell me. But dont mention the MMORPG. MMORPGs blow. But i digress.

I love Final Fantasy 7, it will always have a place in my heart :)

The best FF game hands down is Final Fantasy Tactics, though.

FFVI: Everytime I sit down and try to play this, I can't. I get about an hour into it and have to stop. It moves so slowly and completely fails to capture my interest later on, nothing the characters do is entertaining and battles are boring. The music is pretty good, and I can understand it was revolutionary for its time, but it just doesn't click with me. 3/10

FFVII: I got a PSX to play this game. If I tried to play it today I probably couldn't, simply because the graphics are awful and the music jarring, but back then, man. It was a huge fucking deal. Like a lot of classic games, what was good about this one was the innovations it introduced that newer games have copied. To this day people love this game and I'll be damned it Square-Enix passes up the chance to remake it and once again be drowning in money. (8/10)

Oh God, someone agrees with me. FF8 was total garbage. What he said.

FFIX: This game feels like the black sheep. I can understand they were trying to throw it back to the older games, but I'm not sure if it worked. Like, this game isn't bad... but it's not awesome. Everything from the characters, the music, the art direction, to the storyline, is just... in the middle. I remember enjoying it to some degree, but it's pretty forgettable. (5/10)

FFCC: If you actually get all the shit and people together to play this the way it's supposed to be played, it's amazing. It's one of the best mulitplayer games I have ever played, rivaled perhaps by Smash Bros. and the GC's other GBA multiplayer, Zelda Four Swords. There are tons of little things in this game that make it awesome. The storyline might not be spoon-fed to you, but if you actually talk to NPCs and examine everything you can, it's actually kind of chilling and creepy. Also I love RPGs where it feels like the world is actually in immediate danger at all times. (8/10)

FFXII: The characters, storyline and art direction for this game are great, and then there's the gameplay, which is pretty bland. At least you can set up some gambits and leave it on overnight at one point in the game, so that you can zip through the rest at a nice high level. If only this game had something like materia instead of the faux-MMO stuff, it would be perfect. Also, BALTHIER. (6/10)

I havent played any other ones I dont think.

ffiii: ive only played the ds remake, and good god is it fuck-awful. the story is shit, the characters are shit, and the gameplay is shitshit. its so stupid imbalanced that upgrading is completely pointless. you have character levels and job levels, and when you get a new job it starts at level 1. once you get far enough in the game to get the 'good' jobs, your 'bad' jobs are at such a stupid-high level anyways that switching is unnecessary and stupid. what a bad idea. oh, also, THERE ARE NO SAVE POINTS IN DUNGEONS. good call, game designers. saving before a difficult boss is for PANSIES. 4/10

ffiv: ahhhh such a beauty. my favourite final fantasy game by far. the original was great, and the remake for gba was even better. good, memorable characters, a five-man team was absolutely amazing, and the plot was enjoyable. also it was a moderately balanced game, which is a rarity in final fantasy games! you had to do a bit of grinding sometimes, which is frustrating, but other than that i have no real complaints. 8.5/10

ffv: THIS is a really fun game, imo. the job system was frustrating but really cool at the same time. although i may only like it cause i had so much fun with my low level game. beating the last boss with your characters levels being 2/2/2/3 is pretty sweet, haha. it was challenging and just overall fun (the challenge was, that is). but the fact that thats even possible shows how stupidly imbalanced everything is. challenges aside, the game itself was pretty fun. plot was stupid, though. however exdeath is one badass last boss! 7/10

ffvi: ughhhh. fuck you guys. ff culture pisses me off, as everyone is all 'OMG FFVII IS SO MEDIOCRE AND OVERRATED YOU GUYS ARE JUST SEPHIROTH FANBOYS FFVI IS SOOO MUCH BETTER STOP BEING SHEEP', and its at the point where seemingly EVERYONE has that mindset, and ffvi is now the overrated one. i guess i enjoyed it, the second half was just too weird for me though. plot was interesting. i'll also give the game credit because it has perhaps the most epic last boss fight ever. kudos to them for that.
as for gameplay, fuck it. it was fun i guess, but if youre a completionist like me, its really stupid. levelling with espers was retarded; everyone could do the exact same thing by the end of the game. furthermore, it had overly stupid accessories and shit; economizer was absolutely ridiculous. every spell costs 1 mp? oh ok, thats not imbalanced. even WORSE is the fact that that isnt even close to the best accessory, and you have some retarded balance issues. furthermore, the only way to get the highest stats is to do a low-level game and not gain ANY levels until youre close to the end of the game. what the fuck, man. fuck that shit. it was an enjoyable game i guess, but too much of it just pissed me off. 6/10

ffvii: i really enjoyed this one, for what its worth! it was challenging at times, and didnt require much grinding at all. tons of fun sidequests, all that jazz. i liked the plot a lot as well. i also like all the cool shit theyre doing to ffvii, and eagerly await crisis core, cause zack is a sweetass duder. i never played dirge of cerberus, though; ive heard its shit.
anyways, there really isnt much to say about this game, since its probably the most discussed game in the history of the internet, lol.

did i enjoy it? OFF COURSE! 7/10

thats all ive really played in terms of final fantasy! im sure im missing out on a lot, but final fantasy sucks absolute dick compared to the tales of series, so i prefer to spend my gaming time on those bad boys.

Out of all of the Final Fantasy games I've played (Which, admittedly totals at 4) I'd have to say VII is the worst. I hate Battles where you have a fraction of a second to decide what action to take, and when you do you have to wait in 'queue' whilst the opponents whale on you. It's certainly no fun. It's good to see Square amended this with Turn Based movement in X and character 'programming' in XII.

My Other issues with 7 are that:

There's no voice acting. There wasnt much of it around in the late 90s but to go back to having to read the scripts is a real chore and makes it worse than the recent titles!

Appalling graphics. I'll be relative here, FF7 came out within a few months of Zelda OoT but its graphics are a joke in comparison. Staring at the screen really did cause migranes and there was such a gulf in quality between cut scenes and general gameplay that the only way you could really tell whos who is by the clothes...

3 Discs... Why? If my memory serves me correctly the final disc is almost exclusively the boss battles. It seems the developers were actively trying to pad out the game for bragging rights. It really does seem that 70% of the content was plot irrelevant sidequests involving transvestites and prostitution.

To be quite honest, I don't like voice acting in the FF games. Having the voice acting marked the end of the video game era of complete customization... yes, I'm talking about naming characters. It added an edge of fun for me that will never be matched again when I could name every character that joined my party. It was just like all my best friends and I were the ones who were really saving the world, not some pimply-faced (BAN ME PLEASE) named Vaan. They worked around it in FFX but just completely gave up after that.

Final Fantasy: For it's time, I'll bet it was one of the best games out there. By today's standards, though...the revamped versions are far too easy and I've never played the original, so...I can't really give it a fair score.

Final Fantasy II: Pretty sure this one wasn't changed much in it's transition. It's by no means a really bad game, but it's level up system is horribly unbalanced and the story isn't too great either. An improvement from the last game in some ways, but not by much. 5/10.

Final Fantasy III: Never played this.

Final Fantasy IV: Again, a pretty solid improvement over the previous game, with a much more interesting story, more (and better) characters, better battle system, etc. It's not incredible in any one way, but it's a very solid RPG. 7/10.

Final Fantasy V: It's story and characters take a fall compared to FFIV's, but in return it has a much, much more interesting job/combat system (IMO, that's more important than story, but that may just be my bias). 8/10.

Final Fantasy VI: Very solid story and battle system. The esper system added a lot of interesting gameplay options, and the open-ended exploration of the second half of the game was done very well, letting you do things however you liked. 10/10.

Final Fantasy VII: Good story, interesting gameplay, and a nice system in materia. It's not one of the most popular games ever without good reason. 9/10.

Final Fantasy VIII: Not the most popular of FF's, but certainly a good game. The draw/junction system was unique and well-balanced, decent story, and a huge leap in graphics make it a fairly good game. 8/10.

Final Fantasy IX: Of all the FF ability/battle systems, this game had what's probably one of the worst. The character designs look a bit strange as well. Still not a bad game overall, it just doesn't compare very favorably to it's earlier bretheren. 6/10.

Final Fantasy X: Huge jump in graphics (well, it was on a new game system) and very solid gameplay. The main beef most people have with this game is that it's too linear, and while that is a problem, it's not one that prevents it from being one of the best out there. 9/10.

(Meh, may as well do the spin-offs)

Final Fantasy Tactics: There are so many problems/oddities with this game (you can't cancel movement, no defense stats, broken calculators/holy swordsmen, bizzare crystal system, story falling into nonsense) that you'd think it would detract from the experience pretty heavily. And yet, it still manages to be a great game with a deep battle system that retains a lot of style from it's roots. 9/10.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: Lost potential sums this game up pretty well. The character advancement system was interesting as were the different races, but the game as a whole is so stupidly easy and has such a boring story that it doesn't feel worth the trouble to play through it. 6/10.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: More of an blatant advertisement for the GBA-GC link connector than anything else. The core gameplay was alright, but extremely repetitive, and trying to play it with friends is a whole lot more trouble than it's worth. 4/10.

Final Fantasy X-2: A so-so battle system and decent story situate this game at a level of absolute meh. The free-roaming system wasn't really as good as it could've been, either. 5/10.

They worked around it in FFX but just completely gave up after that.

I am glad they did. Because I really hated having them refer to Tidus as "him" for the whole game... or was that in FFX-2.. anyway, it was annoying.

I prefer not renaming my characters.

Final Fantasy I
Ugh. Well, for being the first game (and being on the NES), it's not too bad. But it's just way too archaic to feel good. Losing to Chaos because of gay-ass-hell Cure4 is lame. The MP system is bad (awful, actually). For nostalgia purposes only, really. And even then, it'll frustrate you. And don't bring that Dawn of Souls weak ass shit into the conversation. Origins, NES version, or bust. 2/10

Final Fantasy II
A huge improvement over the first...but still not saying much. The "leveling" system was pretty awful -- it was extremely exploitable...but at the same time, if you didn't use the exploits, you'd be hella underpowered. Cookie-cutter story, characters (although Garrett iirc kicks ass), etc. 4/10

Final Fantasy III (DS)
A pretty recent release in the US, despite being out forever in Japan. And the gameplay feels that way. The same lame MP system FF I used, incredible difficulty -- no save points in dungeons (which could last hours, and -always- ended in a boss fight) and overpowered monsters were not fun. The Class system is pretty cool, though. Overrall, it was a decent game that shows its age. 6/10

Final Fantasy IV
I really enjoyed this one. The characters kicked ass (although I dislike mass-resurrections), the story was good, and the battle system (although old by now) is still solid. The fact that your party was constantly changing was also cool. This was a fun game with good elements and very little to complain about, other than needed occasional grinding. Although if you wanted the Pink Tail...9/10

Final Fantasy V
The introduction of the Job system and a great game. Limiting the cast to 5 playable characters was a bummer, but really the Job system made you forget about it. Although it's not as indepth as LuCT or FFT, the Job system is still great to tinker around with. The story was also pretty decent and the sheer amount of shit to do is a huge plus. It is a bit on the easy side, though. Definitely the easiest FF from 1-5. 8.5/10

Final Fantasy VI
Everyone's favorite. A healthy cast of characters, with some great elements added in (Espers, unique commands, etc). Unfortunately, this game suffers from Xenogears like syndrome (more like Xenogears suffers from FF VI syndrome, actually) -- amazing first half, terribly rushed and disappointing second half. Still, the amount of sidequests in the game, the enjoyable story, cast of characters, and amusing villain made me enjoy the game. 8/10

Final Fantasy VII
This was my first Final Fantasy, and I began at @ level 22 in Nibelheim right before Materia Keeper. I've played through it numerous times thereafter. Seeing as how I played this before I discovered the internet, I had no idea about any massive spoilers, and was just amazed at the story. Also saddened at parts (this may have to do with me being like 12 when I first played it). Materia is a fantastic system, too. The characters are all actually surprisingly diverse, too. The story had it's loopholes of course and there were speedbumps (god I HATE Mideel), but it was still an enjoyable experience. 9/10

Final Fantasy VIII
The black sheep of the series, and for good reason. This game just felt sub-par from the get-go. The story wasn't special (in fact, the story sucked), the characters blew (and were all pretty boy/girls age >19 -- true story), junctioning system was bland, and exploitable limit breaks just ruined everything (Aura -> Zell -> Duel -> 200,000+ damage turn 2). The only light in the ominous black cloud that were the vastly improved graphics, which I still think look good today. 5/10

Final Fantasy IX
My personal favorite FF game. This one had nostalgia, amazing, feel-good characters, a fun story, and the greatest mini-game ever created in Chocobo Hot & Cold. The battling was essentially the same as it had been from FF VI, although that's not really a bad thing. The main villain, despite being androgynous, was also pretty cool. The only complaint I have? The final boss kinda came out of nowhere, although you can infer where it came from. That's all that needs to be said. 10/10

Final Fantasy X
I didn't like this one much. I felt the story was lack-luster, the characters sucky, and the new leveling system was just bad. Frustrating battles didn't help, either. The game was also horribly linear. Ugh. 5/10

Final Fantasy XII
A great, fun game. The overhaul in battle system was just a great change -- I can't go back to the older FFs (unless it's FF IX!!) it's so good. So much shit to do, a decent story (with kick-ass characters named Cid), and fantastic gameplay makes this game great. The characters not named Basch and Balthier did kinda suck, though. Especially your "main" character, who just happens to be a "throw-away" character as far as the story goes. Hunts, Rare Monsters, and super-bosses just added to the game. 9/10

There you have it. I tried to rate the games based on their merits today -- I don't particularly care for games that were good 10 years ago. In my opinion, truly great games stand the test of time and don't feel "old" when you play them. This is why some of the older games I didn't like.

Yeah so I'm bored and currently obsessed with FF Tactics: War of the Lions, so I'm reviving this old topic to discuss my views of FFs! Hurray!

All ratings are comparative to other FFs, which are pretty much a staple of quality, so even a 6/10 FF might be a low 8/10 as a more general rating.

I haven't really played enough of FFI and i haven't played FFII at all (heard it sucked though), but FFI is pretty much unratable since it started it all.

Final Fantasy
n/a

Final Fantasy II
I don't know/10

Final Fantasy III (DS)
This game didn't hold my attention at all... It really just bores me to death, and maybe I was thrown off by the fact that this remake released alongside a GBA version of FFV, and I thought of how much better V's job system is... I really have no right to rate it because I haven't finished it, but if I had to rate it so far...
5/10

Final Fantasy IV
Pretty awesome. In some ways this is the first "modern" final fantasy since the characters have actual personalities, and good ones at that. It's too bad you can't really choose your final party but at least you're given a damn solid one in Cecil/Kain/Rydia/Rosa/Edge. On a sidenote: just a pet peeve, but I hate the way Cecil looks on the map after he becomes a Paladin.
8/10

Final Fantasy V
In a way, a step backwards because the characters and storyline aren't nearly as compelling as in IV. However, gameplay-wise it's truly the hardcore FF. The possibilities are endless here.
7/10

Final Fantasy VI
A masterpiece in every single way. The characters have more personality than ever before (Locke, Terra, Edgar, Cyan, Sabin, Shadow, Celes, Setzer... all among the best); the storyline is fantastic; Kefka is IMO the greatest villain of any FF, and of all time, ***Spoiler*** He actually succeeds in destroying the world ***End*** The battle system gives you many options with relics, espers, etc. There are even completely different builds for most characters (e.g. wind slash Cyan, Dragoon Edgar or Mog, etc.) The game might be a little easy for veteran players (or at least the GBA version is, i haven't played the console one in a while. But nonetheless, the game is fantastic. Then, there's the Opera scene. I don't need to say more.
10/10

Final Fantasy VII
Unbelievable. Yes it's sometimes overrated. No it isn't the second coming of Jesus like it's often made out to be. Is it among the best Square has to offer? Absolutely. From the graphics which were MINDBLOWING at the time, to the endless gameplay options (you can make the materia system into a class system quite easily, for instance, and this game has so many challenges that it's down to a system of abbreviations: ie = initial equipment, ll = low level, ni = no items, etc.), to the quirky sections (SECTOR SIX!) and minigames, not to mention the excellent characters (not quite as good as VI in this regard though) and music. And ***Spoiler*** Aerith's death is enough to bring tears to a grown man's eyes. ***End*** FF7 is everything it's made out to be and more. ...Sephiroth is overrated as hell, though.
10/10, but a slight edge given to VI.

Final Fantasy VIII
Burn it. I don't even want to remember this game exists. The Junction system is a load of crap, plain and simple. Some elements about the world were cool ( I liked the trains, the the card game, the SeED garden, some cool locales, etc.), but the characters and gameplay are just horrid. I just want to forget it exists.
4/10

Final Fantasy IX
Love it. The best of both worlds between the early and newer FFs, and quite a bit of its own flavor. Also, Freya is my favorite character to play in any FF. I love her style of a mix of dragoon with awesome support abilities such as full party regen or heal MP. Other than that, a beautiful and unique world with tons of sidequests.
9/10

Final Fantasy X
I didn't like it at first, but it won me over. I guess I love the game's focus on presentation, the puzzles (It's cool that these "dungeons" don't even have random battles) and hell even blitzball. Auron is overrated to Sephirothian levels though.
8/10

Final Fantasy XI
Yes I played this game. For over 2 years on and off, in fact. I'll be the first to say that it has MAJOR flaws. Waiting HOURS for a party, spending DAYS making money for something that makes a minor difference in the end, ridiculous load times, Japanese snobbishness towards american players, tedious quests, mazelike areas, enemis that DON'T STOP chasing until you die... Yeah, it has more than its fair share of flaws. But I also played WoW afterwards, and even as a diehard Warcraft III fan, somehow I enjoyed FFXI more than WoW. In a way, the flaws in the game draw players to a stronger community element, and you make more and better friends because of it. This game can either be extremely frustrating or a great experience.
6/10; but with the right people, it gets better.

Final Fantasy XII
It's certainly a new concept for Final Fantasy, and it works quite well. I just wish we got the so-called "international edition" (which is exclusive to Japan... yeah...) The battle system and challenge are great, but I don't like the characters, the story is kinda "meh" by FF standards though not bad overall... Gambits are kind of retarded sometimes. They really need to have a third line, as such: 1. Action 2. Target 3. When/how to use it. The problem is that chars often get stuck doing only one thing endlessly, which is not good AI imo. eg.: you can't tell someone to steal until the item has been stolen, he'll just keep stealing forever. A great game though, all in all.
8/10

Final Fantasy Tactics
This should be played on PSP because the original's translation is so bad you may as well be playing the Japanese version. I rather like the new old-english style translation, the cut-scenes and the new characters; and the game itself is a classic with unlimited possibilities not unlike FFV, but deeper yet and more challenging. I find that the FF Formula works -better- in a strategy RPG setting. It has a lot of imbalances such as Orlandu, but if you're like me you'll simply ignore them and be on your merry way. After all this game is about setting your own rules. A classic with many quirks but few actual flaws.
10/10

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
A shadow of its predecessor. The storyline got crappified, all seeming of balancing is thrown out the window when Paladins with 6 movement, dual Wielding Excalibur 2 and Nagrarok; Assasins; Morphers, etc. enter the scene. Unlike FFT, this game gives no advantages such as multipliers or innate abilities to classes. So for example, while ninjas learn Dual Wield; Paladins can use it MUCH better with their knightswords, crazy defense, etc. and ninjas have to equip it anyway, unlike in FFT where they would have it innately and could combo it with Attack + or equip Katana or something (martial arts is kinda cheap). I still like the game a LOT; it's a great time killer, and I have VERY high hopes for FFTA2. Still, not nearly as good as FFT.
6.5/10

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
No. Blame Nintendo for this one. Give it a BLOCK BUTTON, maybe some buttons for spells, let people play with CONTROLLERS not effing GAMEBOYS and we'll talk.
2/10

Now for something a little more obscure...

Final Fantasy Legend II
Who remembers this game? Very different from anything else in FF. In fact I believe it's not even the same company, or a different branch or something. Regardless, I can't help but remember it fondly, and it was a fun game with tons of options (Human M/F, Mutant M/F, Monster and Robot were the races, and there were some interesting combinations. With weapons as well. One of the original Gameboy's hidden gems.
8/10

Final Fantasy Legend III
At least as good as 2. This one involved time travel, and it had perhaps the best airship in ANY game EVER (barring maybe Skies of Arcadia). Not only does it fly AND travel through time and space, it has a bathroom, a crew you can hire which starts a weapon shop, item shop, fusion place, etc. and it HELPS YOU IN BATTLE, even during the final boss! Also a game with a lot of options (you could turn your characters into robots by installing parts or monsters by eating meat; different weapons and spells, etc.) Great game for its time.
8.5/10

Final Fantasy Legend
Well... I played it after the other 2... and by comparison, it really sucked. When you consider that it came out first though... ehh, I dunno.
5/10

Oh.. not really a FF but...

Chrono Trigger
It's arguable, but in my mind this is hands-down the greatest RPG ever made, and probably greatest game ever made, bar none. Characters, Battle System, Storyline, Environments, Music, Alternate Endings, New Game +... I challenge you to find a flaw in Chrono Trigger. I remember staying up to 2 AM playing this game at the age of 10, simply unable to put the controller down. The definition of a masterpiece.
11/10 (Shh... it's Chrono Trigger.)

So top 5 FFs: VI > VII > Tactics > IX > IV
