[OVERVIEW]

Shaymin is a very versatile Pokemon. It can fill the role of an all-out attacker, a Leech Seeder, and even a Choice item abuser. Shaymin's base 100 stat spread gives it good bulk, good offenses, and good Speed, allowing it to tie with the all important base 100 Speed tier. Unlike Celebi, Shaymin doesn't suffer from weaknesses to Dark- or Ghost-type attacks, while Shaymin's signature move, Seed Flare, has a 40% chance to drop the opponent's Special Defense by 2 stages, allowing Shaymin to plow through even Chansey and other specially defensive walls.

[SET]

name: Special Attacker
move 1: Seed Flare
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Rest / Synthesis
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Shaymin makes a great Special Attacker because of its bulk and offensive stats. Shaymin can beat bulky Water-types such as Milotic and Quagsire easily due to its resistance to Water-type moves and ability to take status such as Toxic with impunity thanks to Natural Cure. Shaymin's high base 100 Speed stat allows it to make use of STAB Seed Flare by outspeeding most of the metagame.

Seed Flare provides a great STAB attack and has a 40% chance to lower the opponent's Special Defense, allowing it to get through bulky walls such as Deoxys-D and even Chansey with a bit of luck. Earth Power hits the Steel- and Fire-type Pokemon that resist Seed Flare, such as Arcanine and Registeel. Hidden Power Ice is Shaymin's best option to hit Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Seed Flare and Earth Power, but Hidden Power Fire is also an option to hit Heracross and Escavalier for super effective damage. Shaymin lacks an instant recovery move that's reliable in all weathers, so its best option for recovery is Rest, and thanks to Natural Cure, Shaymin isn't crippled after using the move. Synthesis can also be used for instant recovery, because hail and sandstorm are rarely seen in UU.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread maximizes Shaymin's Special Attack and Speed. Shaymin needs to have maximum Speed with a Timid nature so it can tie with other 100 base Speed Pokemon such as Celebi and Mew. A bulkier EV spread is also an option; shifting the Speed EVs into HP lets Shaymin take hits better and last longer. If you use Hidden Power Fire, the imperfect Speed IV means that Mew, Victini, Staraptor, Zapdos, Flygon, and Celebi all outspeed Shaymin, so an EV spread of 20 HP / 252 SpA / 236 Spe should be used to outspeed max Speed Sigilyph. Leech Seed can be used over Rest if you want to damage the opponent, while also healing your own Pokemon.

Because Shaymin is weak to Fire-, Bug-, Ice-, and Flying-type attacks, good teammates for Shaymin should be able to resist at least one of those types. Empoleon is a great teammate, resisting Bug-, Ice-, and Flying-type attacks, while also only taking neutral damage from Fire-type moves. Slowbro also makes a good teammate for Shaymin because it counters Victini, who would otherwise destroy Shaymin with V-Create. Weezing is another great teammate because it counters Choice Scarf Heracross, who would otherwise outspeed and do heavy damage to Shaymin with STAB Megahorn.

[SET]

name: Leech Seed
move 1: Leech Seed
move 2: Protect / Substitute
move 3: Seed Flare
move 4: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Fire
item: Leftovers
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 76 SpA / 180 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Leech Seed is the bread and butter of this set, allowing Shaymin to regain HP after every turn, which can end up being very annoying for your opponent. Protect gives Shaymin another turn for recovery without having to take any damage from your opponent, which is especially useful if Shaymin is near KO range or at low health. However, Substitute is useful to block status moves such as Thunder Wave and Toxic, although Natural Cure, already lets Shaymin deal with status easily. Seed Flare is Shaymin's main STAB move and is very useful in conjunction with Leech Seed, forcing switches due to its 40% chance of a Special Defense drop. Hidden Power Ice is an extra coverage move which hits Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Leech Seed and Seed Flare, such as Celebi and Sawsbuck also deals with Flying types such as Crobat and Xatu. Hidden Power Fire is an option over Hidden Power Ice to hit Heracross and Escavalier for super effective damage.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The HP EVs give Shaymin relatively good bulk. The 76 EVs in Special Attack let Shaymin pack a punch with Seed Flare, while a Modest nature helps Shaymin hit harder so it isn't a sitting duck after it has used Leech Seed. Note that the EV spread is flexible, and Shaymin's well-rounded stats allow it to run almost any EV spread. Natural Cure really helps Shaymin nullify crippling status moves such as Thunder Wave and Toxic which normally plague Leech Seed abusers.

Because this is a Leech Seed set, Shaymin needs proper support to use it to the fullest extent. Leech Seed and Seed Flare cause a lot of switches, so the opponent will take quite a bit of damage with entry hazards on the field. Toxic Spikes are also incredibly useful, as they wear down the opponent much more quickly, especially in conjunction with Leech Seed. Because entry hazards are almost essential to Shaymin's success, a spinblocker is a good teammate for Shaymin. Dusclops is a good partner as its Ghost typing blocks Rapid Spin and resists the Bug-type attacks which threaten Shaymin.

[SET]

name: Choice
move 1: Seed Flare
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Rest
item: Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs gives Shaymin more power than Life Orb does, with the drawback of not being able to switch moves. With 448 Special Attack, Shaymin can do hefty damage to any Pokemon that doesn't resist its attacks, which is not easy due to the excellent coverage its moves provide. Choice Scarf makes Shaymin a powerful revenge killer, outspeeding the fastest threats in UU such as Jolteon and Aerodactyl, and even checking Shell Smash Gorebyss and Huntail.

STAB Seed Flare allows Shaymin to break through special walls such as Chansey and Deoxys-S who would otherwise wall this set. The 40% chance of a Special Defense drop may also help Shaymin net some important 2HKOs on Pokemon that it otherwise couldn't. Earth Power hits Steel- and Fire-type Pokemon that resist Seed Flare such as Escavalier and Registeel. Hidden Power Ice hits Flying- and Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Seed Flare and Earth Power, such as Sawsbuck, who is 2HKOed by Hidden Power Ice, but Hidden Power Fire is a viable option over Hidden Power Ice if you want to hit Bug-type Pokemon such as Escavalier and Heracross for super effective damage. Rest gives Shaymin a decent recovery move with few drawbacks thanks to Natural Cure.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Maximum investment in Special Attack nets Shaymin important OHKOs on threats such as Kingdra and Flygon, as well as a 2HKO on Sawsbuck with Hidden Power Ice. 252 Speed EVs with a Timid nature are also necessary to tie with other base 100 Speed Pokemon such as Flygon, Mew, and Celebi who usually run max Speed. Natural Cure lets Shaymin take on the role of a status absorber, and allows Shaymin to use a reliable recovery move in Rest.

Shaymin needs proper hazard support to net important KOs, so Pokemon such as Deoxys-D who can lay entry hazards down are great teammates for Shaymin. Fire / Water / Grass cores may not be as popular as they were last generation, but they are still a good way to cover Shaymin's weaknesses. Fire-type Pokemon such as Arcanine resist Shaymin's Bug-, Fire-, and Ice-type weaknesses, and Water-type Pokemon such as Blastoise and Milotic resist Shaymin's Water- and Fire-type weaknesses. This still leaves Shaymin's Flying-type weakness open, so a Steel-type Pokemon such as Bisharp covers that weakness nicely.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Shaymin has a very shallow movepool , so it doesn't have many options outside of the ones listed. Air Slash is an option to hit Grass-types slightly harder than Hidden Power Ice, but leaves Shaymin vulnerable to Flying-types. Shaymin can play a support role with moves such as GrassWhistle and Aromatherapy, but Celebi is usually more effective at support due to its larger movepool. Growth may be used on the Special Attacker set, but Shaymin really isn't fast enough to set up with faster threats such as Weavile on the prowl, who can outspeed and hit Shaymin for super effective damage.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Bug-type Pokemon such as Heracross give Shaymin a lot of trouble, easily KOing Shaymin with its STAB Megahorn. Escavalier is also a good check, as it resists all of Shaymin's attacks barring Earth Power and can KO with Megahorn. Nasty Plot Celebi is a good check, as it can boost its Special Attack and hit Shaymin for super effective damage with Hidden Power Fire. If Shaymin doesn't use Hidden Power Ice, Flying-type Pokemon such as Zapdos will have no trouble beating it.

special attacker set is outclassed by celebi due to nasty plot and recover, shaymin should focus on more defensive sets due to the less weakness it has over its brethren for example:
name: Bulky Offense
move 1: Seed Flare
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Hidden Power Ice/Fire
move 4: Rest
item: Leftovers
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 224 SpA / 32 Spe

HP Fire should be included on both sets so you can roast Durant and Escavalier before they set-up and destroy you

also i slashed hp fire, thanks.

Ugh, he gets Air Slash. Skymin learns it through level up and just change it back to land forme.

I believe it superior to Hidden Power Ice/Fire as it hits Grass and Bugs harder without tweaking his Ivs.

Air Slash is generally an inferior option, as the coverage it offers isn't as great as HP-Fire or HP-Ice. In competitive battling, we don't give preference to movesets that require or don't require "tweaking of IVs."

we would if it is better but it isnt. Air Slash lets shaymin get walled by steels.

And I think you should just have Timid on the Choice Set. Even on Scarf variants it's better to have timid for getting a speed tie with Scarf Flygon and some other stuff im not sure of.

Holy shit, nice speedy write up lol.

Mention that Scarf Shaymin can outspeed Gorebyss and Huntail after a Shell Smash, and hit them with Seed Flare. Timid or Modest. (446 vs 449)

And I wouldn't mention Weavile as something that it outspeeds because Weavile has STAB Ice Shard which is Super Effective.

Mention that HP Fire means Celebi, Flygon, Victini, Staraptor, Zapdos, and Mew outspeed you and therefore you should use it with 20 HP / 252 SpA / 236 Spe to outspeed max Speed Sigilyph

What's the point in out-speeding Max Spe Sigilyph? You can't do shit to it with any of your attacks, so you're basically praying that it switches into a Seed Flare, but at that point you know they're just going to switch right back out. If it's running Max Spe, that means that would usually mean that it's an all-out attacker, so it's just going to use Air Slash and kill you regardless.

I say drop the Speed if you're running HP Fire to out-speeding base 90s, throw rest in HP.

The point isn't that. The point is you also need to outspeed both Arcanine and Houndoom (base 95) so I thought "if you have to outspeed those, I guess you could aim to outspeed Sigilyph too".

If you don't care about it, then you can use 36 HP / 252 SpA / 220 Spe that still lets you outspeed the aforementioned Fire-types.

Probably just me but I always used to use a bulkier EV spread on the first set, just mention shifting Speed to HP in the AC. Also I think maybe slash Synthesis with Rest since Hail and Sandstorm are both pretty rare.

Also mention why you'd use it over Celebi (no Psychic typing and Seed Flare are both big pluses).

Air Slash+ however much speed it takes to outspeed Heracross has been working well for me.

Also Aromatherapy is cool.

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Shaymin's best set. Shaymin makes a great a great Special Attacker because of its bulk and offensive stats. Shaymin can beat bulky Water-type Pokemon like Milotic and Quagsire easily as it resists due to its resistance to Water moves and isn't afraid of status moves like Toxic thanks to Natural Cure. Shaymin's fast excellent base 100 Speed stat allows it to make use of effectively utilize STAB Seed Flare by outspeeding most of the metagame.

Seed Flare is in the first slot as it provides a great STAB and has a 40% chance to lower the opponent's Special Defense, allowing it do get to break through bulky walls like Deoxys-D, and even Chansey. Earth Power allows Shaymin to hit Steel- and Fire-type Pokemon that resist Seed Flare like Arcanine and Registeel. Hidden Power Ice is Shaymin's best option to hit Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Seed Flare and Earth Power. Hidden Power Fire could be used over Hidden Power Ice if you want to hit Heracross and Escavalier for super effective damage. [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread maximizes Shaymin's Special Attack and Speed. Shaymin needs to have maximum Speed to so that it can tie with other Speed base 100 Pokemon like Celebi. Timid is the preferred nature so Shaymin isn't outran outrun by other Positive natured, max invested, base 100 Pokemon like Celebi and Mew. [SET COMMENTS]

This set can be very useful if used playedcorrectly. STAB Seed Flare does heavy damage to anything that doesn't resist it, combined . This is used in tandem with Leech Seed, allowing Shaymin to restores its HP makes making it a very annoying Pokemon. Protect and Substitute just add to the effectiveness of this set by giving giveShaymin an extra turns to sap Health from the opponent, increasing the effectiveness of the set. This set can even take down Specially Defensive behemoths like Chansey because of Seed Flare's potential Special Defense drop, and the massive amount of HP that is drained from Leech Seed after each turn. This Leech Seed set would probably be best utilized on a more defensive team considering the support factor of Leech Seed and the this set's relative lack of power that this set has.

Leech Seed is the bread and butter of this set as it allows Shaymin to constantly gain HP after every turn, which can end up being very annoying. Protect lets Shaymin regain health for another turn without having to take any damage, which is especially useful if Shaymin is near KO range or at low health. Protect is the main option over Substitute as it is relatively easy to break through Shaymin's Substitutes since the EV spread doesn't invest a lot in bulk. Substitute is can be useful ,however, to block status moves like Thunder-Wave and Toxic. Those status moves can be dealt with by Shaymin's ability, though. Seed Flare is Shaymin's main STAB move and is very useful in conjunction with Leech Seed because it forces switches since there's a due to the 40% chance of a Special Defense drop. Hidden Power Ice is the extra coverage move needed to hit Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Leech Seed and Seed Flare, like such as Celebi and Sawsbuck. Hidden Power Ice also deals with Flying types such as Crobat and Xatu. Hidden Power Fire may be considered over Hidden Power Ice to hit Escavalier for 4x super effective damage, and whilst also hitting Herracross for super effective damage as well.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread gives Shaymin relative bulk in on both sides of the defensive spectrum by investing in HP. The 76 EVs in Special Attack are there so Shaymin can pack-a-punch with Seed Flare. A Modest nature also helps Shaymin hit harder so that it isn't a sitting duck after it has used Leech Seed. Natural Cure really helps this set out, especially since Protect is the main option over Substitute as you won't have to worry about status moves like Toxic and Thunder-Wave crippling you for the whole match. The EV spread is changeable and Shaymin's well-rounded stats allow it to run almost any EV spread.

Because this is a Leech Seed set, Shaymin needs proper to support to use it to the fullest. The most important thing that Shaymin needs is entry hazards in play. Leech Seed and Seed Flare cause a lot of switches, so with entry hazards on the field, the number of switches the opponent can make is very limited. Toxic Spikes are also incredibly useful as they wear down the opponent much faster combined with Leech Seed + Protect. Because entry hazards are almost essential to Shaymin's success, a Rapid Spinner Spinblocker is a good teammate for Shaymin. Dusclops is a good example of this as it is a Ghost-type so it blocks Rapid Spin, as well as resisting Bug-type attacks.

[SET]

move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Rest
item: Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs gives Shaymin more power than Life Orb does, with the drawback of not being able to switch moves. With 492 Special Attack Shaymin can do hefty damage to any Pokemon that doesn't resist its attack, which is not easy due to its excellent coverage moves. Choice Specs Seed Flare has the ability to OHKO Kingdra and (Pretty sure Kingdra isn't a UU pokemon) Flygon who have that has no investment in Special Defense or HP. Choice Scarf lets Shaymin outspeed even the fastest threats in UU such as Jolteon and Aerodactyl. It can also outspeed Gorebyss and Huntail after a Shell Smash and hit them with Seed Flare. This allows Shaymin to fill a different role in the team than Choice Specs do , as a revenge killer.

STAB Seed Flare allows Shaymin to break through Special walls like Chansey and Deoxys-S who would otherwise wall this set. The 40% Special Defense drop may also help Shaymin net some important 2HKO's on Pokemon that would otherwise wouldn't be. Earth Power hits Steel- and Fire-type Pokemon that resist Seed Flare such as Escavalier and Registeel who would otherwise shrug Seed Flare the move off. Hidden Power Ice is another coverage move used infor hitting Flying- and Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Seed Flare and Earth Power. Sawsbuck is an example of this as it resists Seed Flare and Earth Power and is 2HKO'd by Hidden Power Ice. Hidden Power Fire is a viable option over Hidden Power Ice if you want to hit Pokemon Bug-type Pokemon like Escavlier and Heracross for super effective damage. Rest gives Shaymin a decent recovery move paired with Natural Cure as the sleep status goes away when Shaymin switches out.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Maximum investment in Special Attack for this set to function correctly so Shaymin can net important KO's on threats like Kingdra and Flygon, as well as 2HKO's like on the likes of Sawsbuck with Hidden Power Ice. 252 Speed EVs are also necessary to tie with other base 100 Speed Pokemon like Flygon, Mew, and Celebi who usually run a max invesment in Speed. Timid is the best nature so you can outrun neutral base 100 Speed Pokemon, and tie with positive base 100 Pokemon. Natural Cure also lets Shaymin take on the role of a status absorber too, because as it can just take the status and switch out. It also means Shaymin can utilize Rest in the last moveslot.

Shaymin needs proper hazard support to net important KO's, so Pokemon like Deoxys-D who can set of up entry hazards are great teammates for Shaymin. F / W / G cores may not be as popular this generation as they were last generation, but they are still a good way to cover Shaymin's weaknesses. Fire-type Pokemon like Arcanine resists Shaymin's Bug-, Fire-, and Ice-type Weakness. Water-type Pokemon like Blastoise and Milotic resist Shaymin's Water- and Fire-type weaknesses. This leaves Shaymin's Flying-type weakness open, though so a Steel-type Pokemon such as Bisharp or Escavalier can cover that weakness nicely.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Shaymin has a very shallow movepool, but it does have Air Slash which can hit Grass-types harder than Hidden Power Ice does, but it doesn't hit that much harderthe difference in damage output is rather small, and it leaves you vulnerable to Flying-type Pokemon. Shaymin can support the team somewhat with moves like GrassWhistle and Aromatheraphy, but a support Shaymin is ouclassed by Celebi. Growth may be used on the Special Attacker set, but Shaymin really isn't fast enough to run a set-up set with faster threats like Weavile on the prowl who can outspeed and hit Shaymin for super effective damage.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Bug-type Pokemon such as Heracross give Shaymin a lot of trouble as they resist all of its attacks and Heracross can KO hit Shaymin with super effective STAB Megahornmoves. Escavalier is also a good check as it resists all of Shaymin's attacks barring Earth Power and can KO with STAB Megahorn. Nasty Plot Celebi is a good check as it can boost its Special Attack and hit Shaymin for super effective damage with Hidden Power Fire. If you choose not to use Hidden Power Ice, Flying-type Pokemon such as Zapdos will have no trouble beating you.

This Leech Seed set would probably be best utilized on a more defensive team considering the support factor of Leech Seed and the lack of power that this set has.

Leech Seed is the bread and butter of this set,(comma) as it allowsing Shaymin to constantly gain HP after every turn, which can end up being very annoying for your opponent. Protect lets gives Shaymin regain health for another turn for recovery without having to take any damage from your opponent, which is especially useful if Shaymin is near KO range or at low health. Protect is the main option over Substitute as it is relatively easy to break through Shaymin's Substitutes since the EV spread doesn't invest a lot in bulk. However, Substitute is useful however, to block status moves like Thunder-(space, no hyphen)Wave and Toxic. Those status moves can be delt with by Shaymin's ability, though. However, Natural Cure itself allows Shaymin to deal with these moves. Seed Flare is Shaymin's main STAB move and is very useful in conjunction with Leech Seed,(comma) because it forcesing switches since there's a due to its 40% chance of a Special Defense drop. Hidden Power Ice is the extra coverage move needed to hit Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Leech Seed and Seed Flare, like Celebi and Sawsbuck. Hidden Power Ice also deals with Flying types such as Crobat and Xatu. Hidden Power Fire may be considered over Hidden Power Ice to hit Escavalier for 4x super effective damage, and hitting Herracross for super effective damage as well.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread gives Shaymin relatively good bulk in both sides of the defensive spectrum by investing in HP. The 76 EVs in Special Attack are there so Shaymin can pack-a-punch(spaces, no commas) with Seed Flare. A Modest nature also helps Shaymin hit harder so it isn't a sitting duck after it has used Leech Seed. Natural Cure really helps this set out Shaymin nullify crippling status moves like Thunder Wave and Toxic, especially since Protect is the main option over Substitute. as you won't have to worry about status moves like Toxic and Thunder-Wave crippling you for the whole match. The EV spread is changeable flexible and Shaymin's well-rounded stats allow it to run almost any EV spread.

Because this is a Leech Seed set, Shaymin needs proper to support to use it to the fullest extent. The most important thing that Shaymin needs is entry hazards in play. Shaymin most appreciates entry hazard support. Leech Seed and Seed Flare cause a lot of switches, so with entry hazards on the field, the number of switches the opponent can make is very limited. Toxic Spikes are also incredibly useful as they wear down the opponent much faster more quickly, combined with Leech Seed + and Protect. Because entry hazards are almost essential to Shaymin's success, a Rapid Spinner spinblocker is a good teammate for Shaymin. Dusclops is a good example of this as it is a Ghost-(space, no comma)typeing so it blocks allows it to block Rapid Spin, as well as resisting Bug-type attacks.

[SET]

name: Choice
move 1: Seed Flare
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Rest
item: Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs gives Shaymin more power than Life Orb does, with the drawback of not being able to switch moves. With 492 Special Attack, Shaymin can do hefty damage to any Pokemon that doesn't resist its attacks, which is not easy due to its excellent coverage moves. Choice Specs Seed Flare has the ability to OHKO Kingdra and Flygon with who have no investment in Special Defense or HP. Choice Scarf lets Shaymin outspeed even the fastest threats in UU such as Jolteon and Aerodactyl. It can also outspeed Gorebyss and Huntail after a Shell Smash and hit them for heavy damage with Seed Flare (I'm assuming this OHKOes so you can just say that, but its up to you). This allows Shaymin to fill a different role in the team than Choice Specs do as a revenge killer.

STAB Seed Flare allows Shaymin to break through Special walls like Chansey and Deoxys-S who would otherwise wall this set. The 40% Special Defense drop may also help Shaymin net some important 2HKO'(no apostrophe)s on Pokemon that it would otherwise wouldn't be couldn't. Earth Power hits Steel- and Fire-type Pokemon that resist Seed Flare such as Escavalier and Registeel,(comma) who who would otherwise shrug Seed Flare off. Hidden Power Ice is another coverage move used in to hitting Flying- and Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Seed Flare and Earth Power. Sawsbuck is an example of this as it resists Seed Flare and Earth Power and is 2HKO'(no apostrophe)ed by Hidden Power Ice. Hidden Power Fire is a viable option over Hidden Power Ice if you want to hit Pokemon Bug-type Pokemon like Escavlier and Heracross for super effective damage. Rest gives Shaymin a decent recovery move which, paired with Natural Cure, allows Shaymin to instantly cure its sleep by switching out. as the sleep status goes away when Shaymin switches out.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Maximum investment in Special Attack for this set to function correctly so Shaymin can nets Shaymin important KO'es (e, no apostrophe) on threats like Kingdra and Flygon, as well as 2HKO'es like on Sawsbuck with Hidden Power Ice. 252 Speed EVs are also necessary to tie with other base 100 Speed Pokemon like Flygon, Mew, and Celebi who usually run a max invesment in Speed. Timid is the bset best nature so Shaymin you can outrun neutral base 100 Speed Pokemon, and tie with positive base 100 Pokemon. Natural Cure lets Shaymin take on the role of a status absorber too, because it can just take the status and switch out. It also means Shaymin can utilize Rest in the last moveslot. This allows Shaymin to use a reliable recovery move in Rest.

Shaymin needs proper hazard support to net important KO'es, so Pokemon like Deoxys-D,(comma) who can set of lay entry hazards,(comma) are great teammates for Shaymin. F / W / G (I don't remember seeing this term in DPP analyses so I don't know if this is proper prose. maybe an official member can clear that up) cores may not be as popular this generation as they were last generation, but they are still a good way to cover Shaymin's weaknesses. Fire-type Pokemon like Arcanine resists Shaymin's Bug-, Fire-, and Ice-type Weakness. Water-type Pokemon like Blastoise and Milotic resist Shaymin's Water- and Fire-type weakness. This still leaves Shaymin's Flying-type weakness open, though so a Steel-type Pokemon such as Bisharp or Escavalier covers that weakness nicely.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Shaymin has a very shallow movepool,. (comma) but it does have Air Slash which can hit Grass-types harder than Hidden Power Ice does, but it doesn't hit that much harder, and it leaves you vulnerable to Flying-type Pokemon. Air Slash is an option to hit Grass-types slightly harder than Hidden Power Ice, but leaves Shaymin vulerable to Flying-types. Shaymin can support the team somewhat play a support role with moves like GrassWhistle and Aromatheraphy, but a support Shaymin is ouclassed by Celebi. Celebi is usually more effective at support. Growth may be used on the Special Attacker set, but Shaymin really isn't fast enough to run a set-up set set up with faster threats like Weavile on the prowl,(comma) who can outspeed and hit Shaymin for super effective damge.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Bug-type Pokemon such as Heracross give Shaymin a lot of trouble,(comma) as they resisting all of its attacks, while and Heracross can KO Shaymin with STAB Megahorn. Escavalier is also a good check as it resists all of Shaymin's attacks barring Earth Power and can KO with STAB MEegahorn. Nasty Plot Celebi is a good check as it can boost its Special Attack and hit Shaymin for super effective damage with Hidden Power Fire. If you choose not to use Hidden Power Ice, Flying-type Pokemon such as Zapdos will have no trouble beating you.

good write up, just make sure to correct any instance of KOs, KOes, etc.

[OVERVIEW]

Shaymin is a very versatile Pokemon. It can fill the role of an all-out attacker, a Leech Seeder, and can even utilize a Choice item set. Shaymin's base 100 stats all around give it good bulk, good offenses, and good Speed, allowing it to tie with the all important base 100 Speed tier. Unlike Celebi, Shaymin doesn't suffer from a Dark- and Ghost-type weakness thanks to its pure Grass typing. Shaymin's signature move, Seed Flare, has a 40% chance to drop the opponent's Special Defense by 2 stages, allowing Shaymin to plow through even Chansey and other specially defensive walls.

[SET]

name: Special Attacker
move 1: Seed Flare
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Rest / Synthesis
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Shaymin's best set. Shaymin makes a great Special Attacker because of its bulk and offensive stats. Shaymin can beat bulky Water-types Pokemon like Milotic and Quagsire easily as it resists Water-type moves and isn't afraid of status moves like Toxic thanks to Natural Cure. Shaymin's high base 100 Speed stat allows it to make use of STAB Seed Flare by outspeeding most of the metagame.

Seed Flare is in the first slot as it provides a great STAB attack and has a 40% chance to lower the opponent's Special Defense, allowing it to get through bulky walls like Deoxys-D and even Chansey. Earth Power allows Shaymin to hit Steel- and Fire-type Pokemon that resist Seed Flare, such as like Arcanine and Registeel, while Hidden Power Ice is Shaymin's best option to hit Grass-type Pokemon who resist both Seed Flare and Earth Power. Hidden Power Fire could be used over Hidden Power Ice to hit Heracross and Escavalier for super effective damage. Shaymin lacks an instant recovery move, so its best option for recovery is Rest. Thanks to Natural Cure, all Shaymin has to do to recover all of its health is use Rest and then switch out. Synthesis can also be used for an instant recovery because hail and sandstorm are rarely seen in UU.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The given EV spread maximizes Shaymin's Special Attack and Speed. Shaymin needs to have maximum Speed so it can tie with other 100 base Speed Pokemon like Celebi and Mew, while Timid is the preferred nature to outrun these Pokemon. A bulkier EV spread may be utilized by shifting the Speed EVs into HP so it can take hits better and last longer. If you use Hidden Power Fire, the imperfect Speed IV means that Mew, Victini, Staraptor, Zapdos, Flygon, and Celebi all outspeed Shaymin, (comma) so an EV spread of 20 HP / 252 SpA / 236 Spe should be used to outspeed max Speed Sigilyph. Natural Cure is a very useful ability as it allows Shaymin to take status attacks without having to worry about being crippled late-game. Leech Seed could be used over Rest if you want to damage the opponent, while also healing your own Pokemon.

Because Shaymin is weak to Fire-, Bug-, Ice-, and Flying-type attacks, good teammates for Shaymin should be able to resist at least (space) one of those types. Empoleon is a great teammate for Shaymin, resisting Bug-, Ice-, and Flying-type attacks, while also only taking neutral damage from Fire-type moves. Slowbro is a good teammate for Shaymin because it counters Victini, who would otherwise destroy Shaymin with V-Create. Weezing is another great teammate because it counters Choice Scarf Heracross, who would otherwise outspeed and do heavy damage to Shaymin with STAB Megahorn.

This set can be very useful if used correctly. STAB Seed Flare does heavy damage to anything that doesn't resist it, which, combined with Leech Seed, allows Shaymin to restore its HP, makes for a very annoying Pokemon. Actually, sometimes #HKOs is correct, rather than #HKOes.

When KO is used as a noun, it is KOs:
- "The given EVs net Shaymin crucial knock outs against so-and-so."
- "The given EVs net Shaymin crucial KOs against so-and-so."

When KO is used as a verb, it is KOes:
- "With this EV spread, Shaymin knocks out so-and-so."
- "With this EV spread, Shaymin KOes so-and-so."

The more you know! *rainbow*

Anyway, GP check 1/2.

Oh haha, I was aware of that and even made the appropriate changes myself, but I was just unclear in my last instruction. Anyhow, great work.
