Competitors should make their battle a show for the audience, Beuatiful, cool, spectacular, etc. This will then be evaluated using the appeal gauge. The appeal Gauge will work as following:

  • Successful combo: +5
  • Blocking damage (not via protect): +X (X is amount of damaged blocked)
  • Inventive move use: +5
  • Being unevolved, and battling a Fully evolved pokemon +15
  • Being Not fully evolved (Stage 2 of a 3 stage evo line) and against a fully evolved pokemon: +10
  • Appeal Judges will then give points as to the general appeal of the round. (max 10 appeal points per round)
The Winner will be the competitor whose total HP and Appeal Gauge score is the greatest!

Lenneth and her Litwick enter the arena portion of the contest hall, Lenneth smiling and Litwick looking apprehensive. Lenneth thinks to herself how fitting it is that she is the one battling to keep her and her brother in the competition, while Laharl sits on the sideline...

"Persephone, we've no need to quiver in the wake of this overgrown mongrel. With my guidance, you'll defeat this goon with minimal damage and maximum style!"

The Litwick looks less than convinced...

"Combine Haze and Smog= Smoke of Hades to blind your opponent and poison him too! Then, after you rest, finish with Hex if Argos is poisoned, or Shadow Ball if he isn't."

Argos lets show them what beauty in battle really is. Open with Safeguard to protect yourself from Smoke of Hades. Then go for a ToxicCrunch of Doom (Toxic and Crunch) to do some damage while poisoning Persephone. We need to make up for her point advantage of not being evolved.

.::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.

Welcome to the event where dreams can either be made or dashed, the exiting semifinal of the First Pokemon Contest, welcome to all our amazing coordinators, awesome pokemon and loyal fans alike
(the audience cheers)

Here in the SemiFinal coordinators will compete in a Single 1 vs 1 battle, and the battler which manage to strip awaypoints from they opponent with beautiful moves and perfect coordination will go trough the next round, but it's time for the first battle of the day, on my left is AlphaJolt (the crowd explodes) and on my right is Temperantia (the crowd explodes again), Which one of them will advance to the next round, we'll soon know it!

So let's start this out!

(AlphaJolt trows his Pokeball, releasing Arcanine in a explosion of blue flames that transform in beautiful sprakling smoke, whit him coming from the middle of them, with a strong roar he shows he is ready for everything)

180px-059Arcanine.png

(Temperantia launches her Pokeball, releasing a little Litwick in the center or a twister of long, dark shadows, that iluminate in a sinister way with the light of the spooky candle, she seems to have some interesting tricks she'll like to use)

100px-607Litwick.png

The trainers seem exited, and with those beautiful pokemon it's obvious we're gonna be watching a Smokin' Hot Battle

And Persephone starts the battle floating a little bit, and using his breath to generate a deep fog that, thanks to the smoke her little flame helped to create, transforms into a deep dark mist that slowly surrounds Argos, a really obscure tactic, and the first combo of the night!, still, Argos is to fast to not notice that, and he surround himself in a mystic veil, protecting himself from the smoke and being able to hide on it without a lot of trouble

But now Persephone is completely open to Argos' attacks, with the field full of smoke, she can't see where Argo is gonna come from, she tries incresing his own flame to try to find him, but it's too late, Argos manages to sneak from his left side when he was unaware, his mouth shynes in a bright purple colour, oh!, he has used his toxic smoke to make his teeth even more dangerous, and using his now poisoned teeth, he bites the little Persephone, crunching her with his toxic jaws, and intoxicating her in the process

But Persephone is not gonna sit there without doing anything, he turns his flame up, making the arcanine to lose focus and release him, he hides himself in the remaining smoke, and shots a sphere of shadows absorbing it and launching the orb of it's own anger directly at Argos, he doesn't seem to affected by it, but this is just the first round, what will Argos do next?

Whoa whoa AlphaJolt. I have to do the appeals gauge first!

Remarkable, so far!

Argos: 5 (inventive move use) + 5 (successful combo) + 5 (blocking - I gave the Safeguard this because it blocked the effect, but I don't believe the combo was meant to deal any damage anyway) + 8 (general appeal) = 23

Persephone: 15 (unevolved fighting fully evolved) + 5 (successful combo) + 5 (inventive move use) + 5 (general appeal) = 30

EDIT: Ok, go ahead with orders.

Moving my post down here.

Start off by chasing your tail, and when you catch it use Bite to gain your Justified boost. Then charge for some damage and use DoubleCrunch. If at any point you are targeted with Confuse Ray (or any combo including it), use Agility to dodge it and move each of your actions back by 1.

"Persephone! Show our opponent where a lack of creativity and a faulty memory gets him! Start with a Shadow Ball to knock Argos away as he chases his tail (hopefully, preventing him from catching it). Then, we'll try a risky combo... Combine Solarbeam+Confuse Ray= DeathLights to hopefully break through that Safeguard and thwart his dodge attempt! You may be smaller and weaker than him, but we can show our audience a great battle that may move us on!"

P.S. If the combo will not break through Safeguard, use Confuse Ray twice after Shadow Ball.

200px-HeartGold_SoulSilver_Will.png

Interesting round we had, first, Argos surprised us by using one very odd tecnique y chasing it' own tail, even making us think he had lost it, a really odd way to raise his own power, and showing us that great speed he is the owner of to avoid the dacing beam, really impressive, still, he using just a bite at the end was a little dissapointing, meanwhile persephone showed us her power with her shadow ball first action, but nothing more, but then, she actually created a beautiful snake of dancing light that was really incredible even if Argos was to fast for it, but it was awesome to see it chasing Argos across the field, even if Agos' shield manage to stop it from doing a lot of damage while he was biting Persehone, a very impressive move (Death Lights, the crunch was... ok)
.::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.

And we're back with the battle...

But, what's that!?, Argos appears to be chasing his own tail, he sems to be confused of something since he is running around in circles, he apparently forgot about the whole battle. Persephone didn't, and she is creating a dark sphere in which she is focusing her spooky powers, even going as far as to take the shadows from the people around the arena, that seems like a very powerful attack, and she shot it directly vs the crazy dog, Argos doesn't even notices it, the attack doesn't breaks him, as he continues to try to catch his tail. Persephone is really pissed off, she is being ignores in favor of an ass, literaly!, she begins absorbing energy with his flame, But Oh! Argos manages to catch and bite his own tail, he doen't sem to e in a lot of pain, and he actually seem to have gained strenghts from it, a little unorthodox but really effective, and he seems ready to continue the fight

Persephone continues to change his now bigger flame with even more energy, while Argos show us his speed by trying to bite Persephone from behind... just to come right in from of the releasing fo a very bright enegy beam, Argos tryes to dodge the beam, but it appears to be following him even when he is moving really fast, she is
really using her powers to make that beam dance, Persephone uses her confuse ray to make the solarbeam move around with many little golden orbs around the stage, making it's move the much more beautiful, what a beautiful spectacle, not so much for Argos since he is being chased around the arena. Argos is not giving up, even after running like a fugitive chased by growlithes he gets near Persephone and crunches it's head, making her loose focus and losing conection with the Death Lights, making the beam that hits directly into Argos, with his safeguard protecting him from the now weeknened attack, not being really affected by it. Both pokemon look a little tired, how much more can this battle last?, Will Persephone keep her poker face about the poison inflicted by Argos?, Will Argos get some appeal points back?, We'll sure as darn know it now!

Jeeeeeeeeeeez, Gerard, it's called a period. Use it every once in a while -_-

Didn't AlphaJolt say to use an evasive Agility if Confuse Ray (even if part of a combo) was used? I'll judge once this discrepancy is fixed.

I'd forgotten that Safeguard blocks confusion which is the only thing I wanted to avoid. Just out of curiosity, how did Death Lights do so much? I don't understand your calculation. What is the typing of the attack? If its Grass (which honestly is all the damage being done), I need to resist it and he shouldn't get stab on it. You are multiplying it as if it's super effective damage, which it isn't no matter which typing you use. Here's what I'm getting on the calc:

Grass Typing
((12 + (4 - 2) x 1.5) x .67) x 1.5 = 11.55 = 12 Damage

Ghost Typing
(12 + 3 + (4 - 2) x 1.5) + 1.5 = 19.5 = 20 Damage

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this. I just thought it was weird that it did 30 damage and wasn't even super effective.

Yeah, that's my mistake, i accidentaly repeated the damage taken in the calcs but Argos' HP is actually right, yes he did say use Agility if Confuse Ray is used, yes, now that i read it ore carefully it was stated so i'll change it (nd probably check spelling too), i had to do this late since my computer crashed yesterday when doing it so there mught be some little mistakes in there, but combos cannot be done on last action so then it's gonna be a normal crunch

EDIT: Fixed, a lot of things changed, sorry for it, my brain doesn work a lot at 0 o'clock, altough i do have a little request, if you could summarize you actions in something like:

Pokemon: Move 1 -Move 2 - Move 3 (or Move 1 - Combo, etc...)
- substitution

At the end of your actions, It would make reading you moves a lot easier and make mistakes like this less possible (and help reading to other people who might see this) :3
.

The battle continues to be remarkable!

Argos: 23 + 5 (inventive move use) + 10 (damage blocked) + 8 (general appeal - the image of an Arcanine chasing its tail is too cute, and that Agility was remarkable!) = 46

Persephone: 30 + 5 (successful combo, even though it didn't hit) + 9 (general appeal - the Shadow Ball was great, and those lights! Remarkable!) = 44

The gap has been closed!

"Okay, Persephone. First I want you to start by combining Hex and Night Shade to create a Nightmare Trap from which he can not escape! (It should be unavoidable due to the mental nature of each attack.) Then, cover the battlefield with a Haze (the Safeguard shouldn't prevent Accuracy loss from a field effect.) But, if he uses Crunch on the last turn, replace the action with Minimize to shrink yourself out of the way of damage, just in time!"

Nightmare Trap->---->Haze/Minimize (if Crunch is used)

Start off with Hermes Heat Stroke (Morning Sun + Swagger) to heal up and confuse her as well. She might be a Fire-type but the sun can be too much for even her! Finish up with Bite to get some more damage in.

"An extremely..., Ok, even I have no words to describe this round, only that I loved it, even if the beautiful glow of Argos was turned off, it was for the incredible fit of Persephone, a beautiful combination of power and Persephone's dark basic nature, using all her power and showing her most terrifying, but yet appealing face, even if it manage to froze my soul, her beauty was spectacular, even so, the spirit of Argos is remarkable, and his desire to fight is intense, overcoming the obstacles, and fighting back, Persephone's last movement is gonna made for a really interesting next round"
.::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.

What an exciting battle, no one could predict the winner of this match. Argos seems so confident but Persephone's grim shows that she has many tricks left.

Argos seems to be accumulating light is beginning to shine while absorbing the sun's rays that enter through the windows. Peresephone on the other hand, seems to be channeling his inner darkness, using his dark powers to cast a beam of black energy that begins to slip through the floor and appearing around the arena, surrounding Argos.
Argos' light energy tries to maintain the shadows away, but it's getting harder, whit them coming out of everywhere. Persephone looks like she's really enjoying the pain and fear on Argos' eyes, since her power seems to be growing stronger completely covering the shiny arcanine, whose glow is dissapearing in the shadows that become incresengly closer to him. He seems scared, he can't scape and all the light has vanished from it's body, and there's really nothing he can do to scape, the night shadow manages to trap him, and starts grabbing him like a snake to a little mouse. Persephone looks delighted by Argos' pain, and her eyes start glowing in a bright red, while from it's flame, little flashes of dark energy begin to emerge from it, and begin to unite above her head, as a black smoke. From the center of it, an eye appears, a huge... red... eye..., looking directly at the scared arcanine, while he struggles to escape the chains of darkness that have caught him. Black and red lightnings shoot out from this beautiful and terrifying combination, while that evil eye observes directly to Argos, which is completely paralyzed by fear. Persephone is really enjoying this, se seems like the kind of girl that plays with it's prey, and she is definitely planning something. Persephone raises her arms, and from the red iris fires a burst of dark energy. A beautiful spectacle of ghostly orbs, purple, blue and crimson, goes directly to the static Argos. Which can do nothing to defend itself, thanks to being trapped by the shadows, and gets hit directly, He doesn't seem to be able to go on, but Argos remaines standing. What an awesome demostration of spirit and courage!

Argos tries to recover some points back, using once again his powerful jaws, with the energy he has left, bites the little ghost, Persephone is a little tired after that massive attack and can not do anything to avoid it. Persephone, almost instinctively, releases an enormous courtain of steam, filling the stadium with a really thick smoke, and reducing the vision to a minimum. It will be interesting to see what effect this will have on the battle. At least Persephone is free from the teeth of Argos, free to cause more terror and wreak havok

Wow, what a remarkable round! Litwick really turned up the heat here, and blocking that combo really swung the points in her favour! But Arcanine's bravery and the remarkable beauty of that sunshine are to be commended!

Argos: 46 + 6 (general appeal) = 52

Persephone: 44 + 5 (successful combo) + 5 (inventive move use) + 5 (blocking of the combo) + 9 (general appeal) = 68

We need to gain some ground again here. If she wants the place dark, then dark it will become! Use Cyclopes Crunching Confusion (Crunch + Swagger) to do damage and confuse her. Finish with Morning Sun to break the darkness and bring light again!
EDIT: kinda hard to miss somebody's Swagger when they're in your face :)

"Ohoho! Persephone, you can't see his Swagger anyways because of the Haze surrounding the field so don't worry. Start with a nasty Shadow Ball to initiate our assault of darkness.
O, Ultimate blackness, surround our foe! Persephone, combine Haze and Night Shade to create an Umbral Field around Arcanine surrounding him and blocking out that sunlight! We got 'em, Litwick!"

P.S. In my opinion Umbral Field should block out all light around Arcanine and act as a trapping move. Ie a Ghost-type Fire Spin.

"While smoke was a small obstacle when assessing the combinations by both coordinators, it was very interesting to see how they reacted both pokemon to lack of light, how Persephone could easily move into the shadows while Argos had some problems. Persephone's attacks were impressive, even when poisoned she had an enormous power, and how she took away every little bit of light from the stadium is as terrifying as it is impressive. Meanwhile Argos demonstrated his great spirit when overcoming the power of the darkness that surrounded him, even after being so badly beaten, how inspiring, he is a a true example of how a pokemon could defeat it's fears, both have done great jobs, and both deserve to win, but only one of them can...

I wonder who was it ...
"
.::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.

We're back for our final round, the clock is ticking out, and our coodinators are making their best efforts to be the one who will face TravelLog in the Final

It's great to have our night vision cameras!, so we can see what goes on inside the smoke, Argos seems a little confused, seems to be smiling, full of pride, to one of our cameras, trying to completely anger it. While Persephone is just dancing in the dark, slipping behind a swaggering Argos and using his dark powers to obtain energy from the shadows. She even has time to focus herself and launch the sphere of shadows directly against the dissoriented Argos, directly on the pieces of burnt skin that she left him for his previous attack. Argos is damaged, but hasn't fall yet. A bit calmer, he begins to use his nose to follow the scent of the little candle. Smelling the powerful sulfur, he uses this knowledge to place her among all the smoke. Running quickly to her among the smoke and stucking her, once again, with his powerful jaws, dealing a bit of damage. But Persephone escapes from them, sneaking in the shadows. She will be hard to find, but arcanine can with the challenge.

Persephone is looking incresingly weaker, the poison has finally started to charge it's bill in her little wax body, but she knows she can deal with this, even when her powers are getting weaker she can still do lots of damage. Shoting another round of black streams, and releasing even more smoke trough it's mouth, she competely shuts down all the light from the arena
. Her black beams... are trapping Argos once again. He looks really upset, being trapped two times shouldn't be a really nice experience, he is trying to run from the night beams, but they are coming from everywhere in the haze. He is again trapped, and can't do anything to protect itself, while the beams cause damage to him, he is scared, and is paralized by fear, not being ale to move and just reducing itself to a shaky ball of fur. Peresephone is enjoying that. His suffering is making her strenghts come back, such a mean pokemon... but with such an amazing power. But Argos is not done, hearing the voice of Alpha from outside the cloud, and reacts, he stands and starts glowing. Beams of light begin apearing from inside the haze. It's Argos!, he starts glowing brightly, it's incredible, he manage to use his inner fire to crease a beautiful shine, and clearing all the smoke. Persephone seems confused, but Argos doesn't seem a lot better, they look both really tired, but they both still stand (float?).

And with the smoke dissapearing, we can finally see the board, and the winner is...

Wow, this battle has been so remarkable! I'm impressed by such a little Litwick holding her own against Arcanine!

Argos: 52 + 5 (successful combo) +5 (inventive move use) + 9 (general appeal) = 71

Persephone: 68 + 5 (successful combo) + 5 (inventive move use - blocking the light from Morning Sun, even if it was reversed, was pretty clever. I stand by this.) + 7 (general appeal) = 85

Arcanite, announce the winner, and, more importantly, GIMME MAH BT.

Ignore!

Temperantia scores 85+9 = 94
