Virtual Arena.

Flavor:
Hidden in Opelucid City in the Unova region, there lies an old gym that was once used for Rotation Battles, but was left abandoned after some people were hurt in the gym. Maxim has renovated (and improved the safety features of) this gym, and now serves as his (possible and unlikely) gym arena. The gym puzzle generally involves two types of rotating platforms, long sword platforms that connect one place to the next, and circular shield platforms that connect to four places. Every time one platform is rotated, all the others rotate as well. The trick of the gym is to get rotate the shield plaforms in such a manner that the sword platforms lead you to the gym stadium.

Arena:
At the end of the gym is a square arena about 100 meters in length with two big circular platforms in the middle. The arena is purpose built for rotation battles, but can be used for other battles sparingly. This arena has a moat for water types to swim in and for surf, but they cannot attack unless they are in the front position or else they're disqualified. All moves are acceptable here, due to the platforms being Heavily reinforced.

"Big wheel keep on turning,
Proud Mary keep on burning,
Rolling, rolling, rolling on the river."

Onox: ...Ferrothorn (translation: no river heres. Also you singing this while turning this wheel isn't doing wonders to your reputation)

"Oh shuttup you partypooper"

Maxim: "HEY STOP DOING THAT ON MY GYM!

*gulp*

Onox: "Ferrothorn!" (translation: busted!)

"oh sorry. I was called to ref a battle here and I was...erm...testing the equipment. Good stuff"

Leethoff: "Ah, so you are the ref. Great, we are the trainers who called you"

"...and of course both saw that pathetic scene. Now why do I think I will have a hard time getting some respect here?"

Onox: "Ferrothorn!" (translation: don't you mean some R-E-S-P-E-C-T?)

"Shuttup"

"Oh, send out your pokemon"

Munchlax [Kimli] (M)
Nature: Quiet (Adds One (1) Rank to Special Attack; Divides Base Speed by 1.15 and gives a flat 10 point decrease in evasion, effectively adding 10 accuracy (e.g. 85 becomes 95) on an opponent’s attacks.

Type:
Normal: Normal STAB; adapt comfortably to any surrounding after 3 actions. Able to use Outrage without losing focus.

Abilities:
Pickup: This Pokemon has a natural habit of collecting items. Whenever a hold item (its own or an opponents) is used or knocked onto the ground with a move like Knock Off, this Pokemon will immediately pick up that item without using an action. It can also grab dropped or naturally occuring hold items in arenas.
Thick Fat: This Pokemon has a great deal of extra fat or muscle that increases its resistance to extreme heat or extreme cold, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire and Ice-typed attacks to the next level of resistance (2x weak becomes neutral, neutral becomes resistance, etc.)
Gluttony (DW): This Pokemon devours healing and stat increasing berries at 50% health (flat) instead of 25% health (flat).

This Pokemon receives a one (1) stage increase on the offense that strikes an opponent’s weaker defense stat. (e.g. does more damage with special attacks when facing Aggron, which has higher defense, and attack when facing Hypno, which has higher special defense. For ties, Special Attack is raised.) This boost is maintained at the end of each round.

Type:
<Rock>: Rock STAB; Take 2 less damage from all special attacks during Sandstorm. Able to use Sand Tomb without losing focus.

Type:
<Electric>: Electric STAB; 50% reduction in paralysis chance from other electrical attacks, perfect accuracy and 30% chance of Protect breaking Thunder during Rain. Superior senses in power plant environments.
<Steel>: Steel STAB; Immune to Sandstorm, highly insusceptible to toxic attacks, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, can be magnetized. Superior senses in high-metal environments like construction sites or factories.

Abilities:
Sturdy: This Pokemon’s body is solidly constructed, reducing the Base Attack Power from an opponents incoming attacks by one (1). The effect is amplified on OHKO Moves, which are reduced by ten (10) Base Attack Power.
Magnet Pull: This Pokemon has the ability to generate a magnetic field that can attract or repulse Steel-type Pokemon. When attracted by Magnet Pull, Steel-types cannot move out of the immediate proximity without great difficulty, and can be pulled along by the Magnet Pull Pokemon. When repulsed, the Steel type is thrust violently away and contact attacks have immense difficulty striking the Magnet Pull Pokemon. The effect of both commands lasts for the following three (3) actions. Steel types cannot switch out in a Switch=OK battle while a Pokemon with Magnet Pull is on the field without the use of Baton Pass, U-turn, or Volt Switch.

NOOOOOW LETS ROOOLLL THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE MAXIM!!

Wow, this gym looks really cool, I'm proud of myself to renovating this gym :D.

Ursa: Actually sir, this isn't an official ASB gym yet, not to mention if we want normal, we'd have to get past Rolf...

Maxim: Don't worry about it, Rolf can't be THAT good can he?

Matrix: Downloading...Rolf is currently in top ten in ASB rankings.

Maxim: -_-

Well, anyway, let's get this gym test started! Major Ursa, you have Quick Feet, so let's send you out first.

Ursa: Yes sir!

The other abilities (so i don't forget):
Matrix: Trace
Kimli: Thick Fat

This will be incredibly dissappointing, but I feel like a normal-type trainer will beat my Team Shieldon. Do your best anyways, Aegis!

Starts with a Taunt, and then Stealth Rock and Metal Burst. If you are taunted on Action 1, then change your actions to Protect->Stealth Rock->Hidden Power Rock

For reference
Aegis=Sturdy
Slag=Sturdy
Maglev=Sturdy

Hmm, let's take slight advantage of his substitution Major Ursa.

Lets start with a taunt to make him waste energy, then initiate a Close Combat to deal massive damage, then finish off with an Earthquake

Summary:
Taunt~Close Combat~Earthquake

Due to some miscalculations, I picked more battles to ref than I can manage with the 2-3 hours of free time I have every day. So, to make sure no one has to wait too much (I am looking at at least 1 daily update)/get subrefs, flavor will be cut down until my workload becomes more...manageable.

I apologize and feel free to get a subref if these conditions don't satisfy you.

Round 1

We have 2 Gym Leader Aspirants battling today! Maxim with his Normal Pokemon and Leethoof’s with his Steel pokemon. Type Advantage goes to Leethoof, but movepool advantage goes to Maxim. Interesting.

Onox: “Ferrothorn” (I would defeat all those normal types with a vine stuck in my back)

“Shut up”

Action 1

Aegis closes his eyes and ears (is that possible) to protect himself against Major Ursa’s Taunt

Shieldon: Protect for 7 energy
Teddiursa: Taunt for 10 energy - failed

Action 2

Major Ursa begins with a BANG with Close Combat dealing insane damage. As I’ve said, movepool geos a looong way.

Aegis prefers the strategic route with Stealth Rock, severely hindering Maxim’s switching options (something relevant on a rotation battle)

Teddiursa: Close Combat: 12*2.25 – 1 = 26 damage for 8 energy
Crit: 9/16 (no)
Shieldon: Stealth Rock for 11 energy

Rocks are on the field!

Action 3

The little Major Ursa Roars and punches the ground creating a devastating Earthquake to critically hits Teddiursa. Now that is a strong (and cure ^.^) bear.

But Aegis manages to deal EVEN MORE DAMAGE with Metal Burst. Gawd.

Teddiursa: Earthquake: (10+3)*2.25 – 1 = 28.25 (29) damage for 7 energy
Crit: 1/16 (yes)

Shieldon: Metal Burst: 36.25 (37) damage for 18 energy

Close Combat + Close Combat combo~rest~Fake Tears

Ok, I choose to rotate out to Slag the Nosepass. Protect against that nasty combo, and then Sandstorm to counter those fake tears. Finish with something to take advantage of his significantly lowered defenses by Power Geming (according to SQSA thread, missed/failed closecombats still reduce defenses).

I am so glad I gave him Protect before this battle.

To be honest, I haven't seen anywhere that a missed close combat still reduces defense. BUT I am going to take your word for it until someone proves that it doesn't work that way.

Round 2

Action 1

Predicting a bad matchup, Leethoof spins the wheel of fortune and sends Slag to the front, who is immediately ordered to Protect which he does by summoning a moah statue between him and his opponent.

Major Ursa, unfortunately, was too busy focusing all his rage for a vicious Close Combat + Close Combat Combo and didn't notice the protection. He smashed the moah statue in so many ways, but only after wasting a lot of energy he realized that he wasn't hitting the right one and that he was now open for attacks.

Nosepass: Protect for 20 energy
Teddiursa: Cruel Beating: missed for 40 energy (wow)
-2def and spd

Action 2

Tired from the beating, Major Ursa does nothing, while Slag prepares the field by summoning a sandstorm.

Teddiursa: nothing
-2hp due to sandstorm
Nosepass: Sandstorm for 9 energy

Action 3

To show how fake Major Ursa can be, he switched from insane rage to a very fake sadness filled with tears, moving the insanely naive Slag and lowering his SPD. Speaking of lowered Special Defense, the Nosepass takes advantage of the Teddiursa low guard and fires a Power Gem for significant damage.

Teddiursa: Fake Tears for 6 energy
-2spd for Nosepass
-2hp due to sandstorm
Nosepass: Power Gem: 7 + 3 + 1.5 + 3.5 = 15 damage for 4 energy

Excellent job Slag - can't wait until you get that delicous steel-typing to become the most obnoxious monster in the sandstorm.

Lets keep up the mildly offensive pressure (read:stall) by shooting out a Toxic and Earth Powering whatever comes in. Since Derpy McCyberduck will probably come in to ruin our sandy parade, lets finish with another Power Gem in case of Conversion 2.

Ok then, let's keep this wheel turning! Rotate to Matrix the porygon and Protect yourself from that toxic. Next, try a Discharge to hopefully paralyze him. Finish off by launching an Ice Beam.

(On a side note, I don't believe Stealth Rocks work in rotation battles, since you're not actually "switching", but I don't know)

Summary:
Rotate to Matrix
Protect~Discharge~Ice Beam

I haven't seen anything regarding the subject and considering that the pokemon will move toward the rocks (and smash on them) I will include SR damage.

Also I did mention that I'd include it on the first turn, so it would be contraditory to change my mind in the middle of the battle.

Of course if someone proves me that I'm wrong, I'll change it.

Aegis, lets keep up this offensive pressure as well as a shield(on) possibly can!

Hidden Power Rock 7->Flash Cannon->Swagger. If Teddiursa uses Earthquake, Counter it.
