Simipour (Analysis)

Simipour

[Overview]
Simipour is similar to Samurott, except Simipour has much worse defenses and better (but not outstanding) speed. If for some reason you ever thought to use Simipour in VGC, Samurott will serve you better in just about every way. Though Simipour is faster, it is not fast enough to warrant use because of its worse attack and defense stats.

[SET]
name: Physical Simipour
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Low Kick
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Simipour does not learn Aqua Jet, so Waterfall and Aqua Tail are its only physical STAB attacks of note. Crunch hits Jellicent super-effective and Low Kick hits Hydreigon super-effective. In addition, Low Kick hits all Pokemon 200 kg or heavier with the same base power as Waterfall. Protect helps it survive a little longer despite its pitiful defenses (which are equal to those of Zebstrika).

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Jolly nature allows Simipour to outspeed Timid Hydreigon and 2HKO with Low Kick, but Simipour needs Adamant nature to 2HKO max HP Jellicent with Crunch. Don't bother with significant EV investment outside of Attack and Speed.

[SET]
name: Special Simipour
move 1: Scald / Surf / Hydro Pump
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Grass Knot
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 6 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Not affected by Intimidate or Effect Spore, unlike the first set. The problem is that it is completely and totally outclassed by Samurott running the same set. Surf hits both opponents but also hits Simipour's partner, while Hydro Pump is its most powerful attack, but inaccurate. Scald is the middle ground. Ice Beam hits the genies super-effective, but will not OHKO (with the exception of Landorus). Grass Knot hits Jellicent, but can still be disabled by Cursed Body.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Timid nature allows Simipour to tie with +Speed Landorus, but much like the physical set, Simipour needs Modest nature to 2HKO Jellicent with Grass Knot.

[Other Options]

Simipour learns Acrobatics, but Simipour needs Focus Sash more than Flying Gem. It should also be noted that as Gem attacks go, Waterfall or Scald boosted by Water Gem will both do more damage than Flying Gem Acrobatics. Blizzard targets both opposing Pokemon, but only has a 49% chance to hit both at once. Fling with King's Rock can flinch a slower Pokemon once in a game if you're willing to give up Focus Sash. Taunt can stop Amoonguss from using Spore and Rage Powder, but not from damaging Simipour heavily with Giga Drain.

[Checks and Counters]

Thundurus and Tornadus destroy Simipour. Simipour's Ice Beam fails to OHKO either one, and each will outspeed and comfortably OHKO back with their STAB moves. Neither Virizion nor Amoonguss take a critical amount of damage from Ice Beam and both can Giga Drain to get back to full health. Simipour cannot touch Jellicent if it gets a Cursed Body on Crunch or Grass Knot. Simipour is not very difficult to take down, the key is getting around its Focus Sash.

Simipour does defeat Simisear which can fill a niche for some teams.

Simipour is similar to Samurott, except Simipour has much worse defenses and better,[add comma] (but not outstanding),[add comma] speed Speed. If for some reason you ever thought to use Simipour in VGC 2011, Samurott will serve you better in just about every way. Though Simipour is faster, it is not fast enough to warrant use because of its worse attack offensive and defensesive stats.

[SET]
name: Physical Simipour (I would rather call the set "Physically Offensive")
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Low Kick
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 6 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Simipour does not learn Aqua Jet, so Waterfall and Aqua Tail are its only physical STAB attacks of note options. Crunch hits Jellicent super-effective super effective,[add comma] and while Low Kick hits Hydreigon super-effective super effective. In addition, Low Kick hits all Pokemon 200 kg or heavier with the same base power as Waterfall. Protect helps it survive a little longer despite its pitiful defenses (which are equal to those of Zebstrika) (not relevant).

A Jolly nature allows Simipour to outspeed Timid Hydreigon,[add comma] and 2HKO it with Low Kick, but Simipour needs an Adamant nature to 2HKO max HP Jellicent with Crunch. Don't bother with significant EV investment outside of Attack and Speed.

This set is not Not affected by abilities such as Intimidate or and Effect Spore, unlike the first set. However, the The problem is that it Simipour is completely and totally outclassed by Samurott running the same set. Surf hits both opponents,[add comma] but also hits Simipour's partner, while Hydro Pump is its most powerful attack making Hydro Pump an option, but it's inaccurate. Scald is the middle ground therefore Simipour's best option for a STAB attack. Ice Beam hits the genies super-effective super effectively, but will not OHKO Tornadus and Thundurus (with the exception of Landorus). Grass Knot hits Jellicent, but can still be disabled by Cursed Body.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A Timid nature allows Simipour to tie be as fast as with +Speed Jolly Landorus, but much like the physical set, Simipour needs a Modest nature to 2HKO Jellicent with Grass Knot.

[Other Options]

Simipour learns Acrobatics to hit Grass-types super effectively, but Simipour it needs Focus Sash much more than the combination of Acrobatics and more than Flying Gem. It should also be noted that as Gem attacks go, Waterfall or Scald boosted by Water Gem will both do more damage than Flying Gem Acrobatics.(not against Grass-types, which is the biggest reason to use Acrobatics, so I would remove this, but I leave to you) Blizzard targets both opposing Pokemon, but only has a 49% chance to hit both at once. Fling with King's Rock can flinch a slower Pokemon once in a game if you're willing to give up Focus Sash. Taunt can stop Amoonguss from using Spore and Rage Powder, but not from heavily damaging Simipour heavily with Giga Drain.

[Checks and Counters]

Thundurus and Tornadus destroy Simipour. Simipour's Ice Beam fails to OHKO either one, and each will outspeed and comfortably OHKO back with their STAB moves. AC should mention good teammates; as it is right now, the whole analysis is quite skimpy. That said, SJ's check looks pretty good (though it should be "super effectively" in his two changes in the Physically Offensive Set Comments), so I'll stamp it just to get things rolling. Please add teammates to the AC and I'll be happy to give this it's final check ^.^
