[Overview]

Don't let Lilligant's delicate appearance deceive you; Lilligant is one of the most threatening sweepers in the RU tier. Combine her excellent base 110 Special Attack and base 90 Speed with her access to Sleep Powder and Quiver Dance, add the correct team support, and you've got one hell of a special sweeper. Indeed, what makes her so threatening is her access to those two moves, Sleep Powder and Quiver Dance. Sleep Powder allows her to render useless a check or counter so she can continue boosting with Quiver Dance. Speaking of Quiver Dance, Lilligant is one of the few Pokemon to receive this magnificent boosting move, and is actually the only Grass-type to receive it.

However, not all is good for Lilligant. Grass is one of the worst offensive types in the game, forcing Lilligant to rely on Hidden Power for coverage. Even with help from Hidden Power, though, Lilligant still suffers from coverage issues. Nevertheless, Lilligant is a unique and dangerous sweeper with just enough tools to pose a threat, and is an excellent choice for any team in need of a special sweeper.

[SET]
name: Offensive Quiver Dance
move 1: Quiver Dance
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: Giga Drain / Petal Dance
move 4: Hidden Power Rock / Hidden Power Fire
item: Life Orb / Lum Berry
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Timid / Modest
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

Quiver Dance is the perfect move for a special sweeper and Lilligant has just the stats to use it. Quiver Dance boosts Lilligant's Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by 1 stage, which automatically makes her an offensive threat. Sleep Powder allows Lilligant to put incapacitate a check and or counter such as Ferroseed, Munchlax, Honchkrow (without Insomnia), and Entei. Giga Drain gives Lilligant a reliable STAB move while also recovering HP from damage and Life Orb recoil, prolonging her sweep. Petal Dance can be used for a significantly stronger STAB, but if one opts for Petal Dance, be sure to use the ability Own Tempo instead to prevent Petal Dance's confusion effect. Although Petal Dance has much more power than Giga Drain, it comes at a price: being locked into Petal Dance for 2 or 3 turns can be risky, especially since Grass is not the best offensive type. Hidden Power Fire allows Lilligant to hit Grass- and Steel-types who resist Lilligant's Grass-type STAB such as Ferroseed and Rotom-C. Alternatively, Hidden Power Rock gives Lilligant coverage on Flying- and Fire-types such as Entei, Honchkrow, and Moltres. Both are equally good options, therefore your choice of Hidden Power type should depend on what the rest of your team can help Lilligant beat.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Other than the moves listed, Lilligant has few other offensive options. Leaf Storm can be used for its high Base Power, but comes at the cost of lowering Lilligant's Special Attack by 2 stages. Leftovers can be used as well to provide Lilligant with small recovery each turn.

Team support is very, very crucial for Lilligant to pull of a successful sweep and relies on the Hidden Power type you choose. If Lilligant chooses Hidden Power Fire, Flying- and Fire-types like Entei and Honchkrow take little damage from both of Lilligant's attacks while being able to threaten back with a super effective attack. Therefore, bulky Water-types such as Alomomola and Omastar make excellent partners to such Lilligant. Lilligant that opt for Hidden Power Rock are walled by opposing Grass- and Steel-types such as Ferroseed, Victreebel, and other Grass-types with a secondary Poison typing. Fire-types such as Entei and Moltres hence pair nicely with this Lilligant. While both Hidden Power options are useful, Hidden Power Rock is generally more useful since Grass- and especially Steel-types are quite uncommon in the tier.

[SET]
name: Bulky Quiver Dance
move 1: Quiver Dance
move 2: Sleep Powder / Aromatherapy
move 3: Giga Drain
move 4: Hidden Power Rock / Hidden Power Fire
item: Leftovers
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP / 188 Def / 68 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

This set makes greater use of Lilligant's decent 70 / 75 / 75 defenses, allowing her to take hits better and set up more Quiver Dances. Just like the offensive set, Giga Drain provides Lilligant with reliable STAB and a form of recovery while Sleep Powder allows Lilligant to put checks and counters to sleep. However, Aromatherapy can be used over Sleep Powder to cure Lilligant of crippling status ailments like Toxic and Thunder Wave from Pokemon such as Ferroseed and Slowking. This allows her to set up on such Pokemon without fear and continue boosting with Quiver Dance, and also provide cleric support to the rest of her team. The EVs and nature enable a boosted Lilligant to outspeed Swellow, Sceptile, and Alakazam, while 252 HP and Defense EVs provide bulk.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Again, what support Lilligant requires depends on her choice of Hidden Power. The same coverage issues from the offensive set apply here as well. If Lilligant chooses Hidden Power Fire, Flying- and Fire-types take little from her attacks and threaten with super effective STAB attacks, while Hidden Power Rock versions are walled by opposing Grass- and Steel-types. Therefore, the same teammates listed in the offensive version—Alomomola, Omastar, Entei, and Moltres—also make excellent partners to this set. Just like the offensive version, Hidden Power Rock is preferred on this set as well, since Steel- and Grass-types are uncommon in RU; furthermore, they can do little back once Lilligant has gained a few Quiver Dance boosts, even more so if Lilligant opts for Aromatherapy.

[Other Options]

Lilligant has literally no other offensive options. Its offensive movepool is very shallow and only contains Grass-type moves. However, Lilligant has an excellent support movepool, consisting of moves such as Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Toxic, Healing Wish, Leech Seed, Light Screen, and Aromatherapy. With these, a specially or physically defensive set is viable. A set of 252 HP / 252 Def or SpD / 4 SpA, and a Bold or Calm nature can be used.

[Checks and Counters]

Eviolite Munchlax makes an excellent check to Lilligant; Munchlax's high Special Defense allows him to take boosted hits and threaten Lilligant with Body Slam or Whirlwind Lilligant out. Ferroseed walls sets without Hidden Power Fire and can cripple Lilligant with Thunder Wave, or take Lilligant down with repeated Gyro Balls. However, bulky Quiver Dance versions with Aromatherapy beat Ferroseed because it can do little back while Lilligant continues boosting. Sets without Hidden Power Fire are also walled by opposing Grass-types such as Rotom-C and Victreebel. Conversely, sets without Hidden Power Rock fall victim to Fire- and Flying-types such as Entei and Moltres, both of whom have decent Special Defense and can hit back hard. Insomnia Honchkrow deserves a special mention as a check to sets without Hidden Power Rock, as it is immune to sleep, resists Grass, will take little from Hidden Power Fire, and can OHKO with STAB Brave Bird. Bouffalant with the ability Sap Sipper deserves special mention as well. Sap Sipper makes him immune to both Sleep Powder, and Lilligant's Grass-type STAB attacks, his defenses will allow him to take a neutral Hidden Power, and he can hit back hard with a STAB Head Charge or a super effective Megahorn.
