An echoing voice from nowhere stopped the wanderer's train of thought. Apparently, Rico and Seth had heard it too, judging from their confused looking around.

"...Welcome," the voice resurfaced. "Perhaps you don't realize the danger in what you're attempting. If you truly wish to claim this tower's reward, then defeat the foe you see before you."

Well that was pretty obvious...of course the wanderer intended on defeating Maxim and his two warriors.

"However," the voice returned with a tinge of sternness, "I expect to be entertained by this. If you bore me, then I'll just have to make things more...interesting."

"Interesting?" The wanderer said. "What do you mean by that?"

"All in due time, mortal..." the voice replied. "May Heaven grant you fortune."

Whatever...Rico! That minccino's looking to paralyze you - punish her with vacuum wave! After that, counter her tail slap and smack her with a force palm! Seth, yawn at the cubone, paralyze the minccino with thunder wave, then torch her with flamethrower!

Lightning struck in front of the wanderer from above, despite the tower piercing the clouds below. Laying upon the blackened patch was a stone tablet. "Pick it up."

"This is the Book of Laws," the voice said as the wanderer did what he was told. "If your pokemon disobey whatever is on the tablet, I will smite them. This should be funny..."

As the mysterious voice trailed off, flames danced on the tablet. Panicked, the wanderer attempted to drop the Book of Laws, but it refused to leave his hands. Slowly, he realized the flames were not going to burn him, but instead seared the following words upon the tablet:

"Thou shalt not be a coward."

No cowardice, huh...I'm guessing that means go all out. Rico! Smack that Minccino with reversal, followed by quick attack and another force palm! Seth, hit her with ancientpower, then extrasensory, and torch the cubone with flamethrower!

"Oh, too bad. I'm afraid only fiery torment awaits you," The voice mocked as flames danced upon the book of laws, burning away the round's law to etch a new one...

"Thou shalt not incapacitate."

"May Heaven grant you...fortune?" The voice said before cackling off into the distance. The wanderer cursed under his breath once more. This battle was just getting worse and worse...

Despite his best efforts, the wanderer was not just defeated, but thoroughly curbstomped. "Well, that's enough of your shenanigans. Smiting time!" Wait, smiting time? Before he even knew what hit him, lightning struck the wanderer, and everything went black... ...He came to in a tent, Rico trying to nudge him awake. Was he dead? He had to be - how could he have survived being hit by lightning? Leaving the tent into the morning light, it all became clear - the wanderer was not dead. He had come to explore the Tower of Heaven, but had arrived by nightfall, so he set up camp and would explore tomorrow. As the wanderer and his riolu set foot toward the colossus, he couldn't help but think about that battle with Maxim, and that voice. It all felt so real...was it really all just a dream? Outcome: Defeat... gg, Maxim. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't stand a chance. Well done.
