[Overview]

Reshiram is one of the biggest impacts BW's release had on the Ubers metagame. An enormous base 150 Special Attack stat coupled with a high base 120 Attack stat makes it a threat to any team and one of the most dangerous Ubers in the history of competitive Pokemon. Reshiram's greatest quality is undoubtedly its dual Fire and Dragon typing. Reshiram's dual STAB moves normally would be resisted only by Flash Fire Heatran, but thanks to Reshiram's amazing Turboblaze ability, Flash Fire is negated and Heatran is neatly dispatched by a powerful Fire-type move. Reshiram's signature move, Blue Flare, is so powerful that it is capable of 2HKOing Chansey in sun with Choice Specs, which is often touted as the best special wall in the game. However, the great blazing dragon does have its downfalls. It is weak to all three types of entry hazards; Stealth Rock strips off 25% of Reshiram's health each time it switches in, as do three layers of Spikes, whereas Toxic Spikes put great pressure on Reshiram and limit its already short lifespan. In addition, Reshiram is weak to common Ground- and Dragon-type moves, making it harder for it to switch in. Moreover, because of its average Speed, Reshiram is often outsped by common threats such as Rayquaza, Palkia, and Arceus. Nevertheless, Reshiram is a top-tier threat in the Ubers environment, and being unprepared will result in your team's destruction.

move 2: Blue Flare
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Flamethrower / Focus Blast
item: Choice Specs
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This is without a doubt Reshiram's most frightening set. When equipped with Choice Specs, Reshiram's Special Attack skyrockets to a staggering 657, making it a very powerful special attacker. A sun-boosted Blue Flare from this set almost matches the power of Choice Specs Kyogre's rain-boosted Water Spout. There's absolutely nothing that is safe from a sun-boosted Blue Flare, unless the opponent is packing a Pokemon with a quadruple Fire- resistance, such as Kingdra or Palkia, or Kyogre, which weakens Blue Flare with the rain it summons. Even the best special wall in the game, Chansey, risks being 2HKOed; Reshiram has an 87.51% chance to 2HKO it with Stealth Rock damage. A Careful Dialga with 252 EVs in both HP and Special Defense is OHKOed, as long as sun is in play. Draco Meteor snipes down everything that tries to switch into Blue Flare; Tyranitar takes about 75% from two consecutive Draco Meteors in sandstorm, Choice Scarf Kyogre is OHKOed with Stealth Rock damage, and 192 HP and 76 Special Defense Ho-Oh is 2HKOed as well. If Ho-Oh has taken Stealth Rock damage, Draco Meteor will easily KO it.

While Dragon Pulse and Flamethrower are weaker than Draco Meteor and Blue Flare, Reshiram will find itself in situations where it cannot afford to miss—and this is where their usefulness becomes apparent. For example, if the opponent has a Kyogre with about 70% of its HP left, Dragon Pulse would easily KO it on the switch-in. Focus Blast strikes Tyranitar and Rock Arceus much harder than Draco Meteor does, making it a viable option over either Dragon Pulse or Flamethrower. In fact, Focus Blast OHKOes Rock Arceus without any Special Defense boosts from Calm Mind or sand, whereas Tyranitar is obviously OHKOed. However, doing so makes Reshiram prone to Ghost-types, which can now switch in safely and set up such as Ghost Arceus and the Giratina formes. Moreover, using Focus Blast on Reshiram makes it an easy target for Wobbuffet; Wobbuffet can come in on the resisted Focus Blast, trap Reshiram with its Shadow Tag ability (which doesn't get negated, as Turboblaze only affects Reshiram's attacks), and spam Mirror Coat repeatedly until it's KOed.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The nature and EV spread are quite straightforward; a Modest nature with 252 Special Attack EVs maximizes Reshiram's offensive potential.. 252 Speed EVs allow Reshiram to outspeed what it needs (Dialga, the Giratina formes, and Lugia, and more): Rayquaza always uses a positive-Speed nature, Palkia is faster regardless of Reshiram's nature, and Zekrom is carrying Choice Scarf most of the time, and when it doesn't—it's slower. However, if you're still worried about Reshiram's Speed, a Timid nature is not a bad option but will result in less attacking power. The leftover EV is dumped into Defense rather than HP, as an extra HP EV would produce a HP stat divisible by 4, increasing the amount of Stealth Rock damage Reshiram takes and decreasing the number of times it can switch in. An EV spread consisting of 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe can be used over the current one, utilizing Reshiram's respectable bulk; Timid Choice Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend does 91.32% maximum, which allows Reshiram to revenge kill it. The bulkier spread does have its downfalls however. While it makes Reshiram a lot bulkier, entry hazards lurk everywhere, and the damage will negate any extra bulk Reshiram has.

Nothing is safe from switching into this monster, but there are a few specific Pokemon that can come in on certain moves and threaten Reshiram. Kyogre, Tyranitar, and Rock Arceus can switch into anything bar Draco Meteor and Focus Blast and strike with their STAB moves, whereas the former two also blot out Reshiram's precious sun. Though Chansey and Blissey cannot switch into a sun-boosted Blue Flare, they can switch into every other move in Reshiram's arsenal and stall it with a combination of Toxic, Softboiled, and Seismic Toss.

Groudon is arguably Reshiram's best teammate, as it not only summons sun to boost Reshiram's power, but it is also capable of laying down Stealth Rock, which allows Reshiram to get some important KOs, such as Choice Scarf Kyogre, with Draco Meteor. Forretress's support is highly recommended; it can spin away the entry hazards that bother Reshiram, whereas Reshiram demolishes the Giratina formes, two common spinblockers in Ubers. In addition, Forretress is capable of laying both Toxic Spikes and Spikes, which allow Reshiram to get past walls such as Chansey and Blissey. Moreover, Forretress can utilize Volt Switch to send Reshiram in safely. For example, in most situations the Giratina formes will switch into Forretress predicting the Rapid Spin, but once Forretress has used Volt Switch to switch in Reshiram, they won't be able to do anything but switch out or get destroyed.

A Ghost-type of your own is recommended, such as the Giratina formes or Ghost Arceus, as keeping entry hazards on the opposing side helps Reshiram. As long as Stealth Rock is up, Ho-Oh will not be able to counter Reshiram reliably, as it gets OHKOed by Draco Meteor after the damage from Stealth Rock. Palkia and Water Arceus defeat Kyogre; thus they are great teammates. They also work well under sun, unlike Grass Arceus, which may beat Kyogre but it does not work as well as Palkia or Water Arceus under sun. If running a mixed set, Palkia can lure in and destroy the pink blobs, Chansey and Blissey, which annoy Reshiram in its sweep. Dark Arceus tears stall teams apart; thus it makes a good partner, especially as stall teams usually stack many entry hazards up. Gastrodon defeats Kyogre, Choice Scarf Palkia, Kabutops, and Tank Tyranitar, so it makes a decent partner, but it is setup bait for many Pokemon, such as Rayquaza and Arceus.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Blue Flare
move 2: Draco Meteor
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Flamethrower / Outrage / Stone Edge
item: Choice Scarf
nature: Timid / Hasty
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With a Choice Scarf attached, Reshiram becomes a formidable revenge killer that can outrun every Pokemon commonly seen in Ubers except Deoxys-S. Reshiram's insanely potent sun-boosted Blue Flare inflicts a ton of damage even without Choice Specs, making it a nice clean up tool lategame. For example, Blue Flare in sun will usually OHKO Mewtwo.

Draco Meteor is there to give Reshiram an insanely strong attack against Pokemon that resist Fire-type attacks, as well as anything that doesn't resist it in general. Draco Meteor can also be used to OHKO Darkrai just in case the weather is not suitable for using Blue Flare. Dragon Pulse is another Dragon-type STAB attack that's useful for for situations where Reshiram cannot afford to miss, such as against another Dragon-type Pokemon it is attempting to revenge kill. Flamethrower is a secondary Fire-type STAB move that is there for reliability as well. Outrage is also an option to hit Pokemon that have accumulated Special Defense boosts through Calm Mind, such as Kyogre, Latias, Latios, Giratina, and Mewtwo, and it also tears off a sizable chunk of Blissey's health. Stone Edge is an option if your team really hates Ho-Oh, as it will always OHKO the rainbow phoenix. However, Stone Edge deals piddly damage to most other targets, and can make Reshiram set-up bait. A Hasty nature should be used when using Outrage or Stone Edge; otherwise, you will want a Timid nature to not lower Reshiram's defenses.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Because Reshiram appreciates any form of support that will allow it to hit harder, a Special Attack raising nature can be used over Timid or Hasty. A Modest nature should be used when running a special set, whereas a Mild nature is the better option when using Outrage or Stone Edge over Flamethrower.

As well as being stopped by the Choice Specs set and enjoying the same support as it, this Reshiram's lower amount of power means that it is troubled by defensive Pokemon such as Chansey and Cresselia. Wobbuffet is also a problem for Choice Scarf Reshiram, as it can trap it with Shadow Tag, survive one of any of its moves, and KO with Mirror Coat. However, all of these Pokemon have one thing in common: they hate Toxic. A defensive Groudon makes an excellent lure for Lugia, Cresselia, and Wobbuffet, as they will switch in expecting to come in relatively easily only to be crippled by Toxic. However, trying to use Toxic on Wobbuffet can be risky, as it can possibly turn Groudon into setup bait with Encore and Safeguard. Therefore, setting up Toxic Spikes (done handily by Forretress) before Wobbuffet switches in or using a mixed attacker such as Dialga or Palkia to lure in and KO it are more effective ways to deal with it. Darkrai can also turn Lugia, Cresselia, and Wobbuffet into setup bait with Dark Void.

[SET]
name: Flame Charge
move 1: Flame Charge
move 2: Blue Flare
move 3: Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
move 4: Outrage / Focus Blast
item: Life Orb
nature: Hasty / Timid
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

After a single Flame Charge, Reshiram reaches 459 Speed, mimicking a Choice Scarf boost while retaining the ability to hit hard and switch moves. After the Flame Charge boost, Reshiram outspeeds a vast number of threats, such as Deoxys-A, Mewtwo, and Darkrai. Whilethis set seems to lack coverage, Reshiram's STAB moves have perfect coverage due to Turboblaze. Blue Flare, Reshiram's signature move, is also its main attacking move, and deals enormous amount of damage to many foes; it can 2HKO Blissey assuming Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and sun support are present. Draco Meteor decimates any Pokemon that resist Blue Flare, such as Palkia, Kyogre, and Tyranitar, though the latter two will not be OHKOed. However, if the Special Attack drop does not tickle your fancy, Dragon Pulse is a viable alternative, though the power difference is notable. Outrage allows Reshiram to get past annoyances such as Kyogre, Tyranitar, Ho-Oh, Blissey, and Chansey, which can sponge Reshiram's attacks with their high base Special Defense. However, Focus Blast is a better option to hit Rock Arceus, Tyranitar, and Dialga, as it deals super effective damage to all of them.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A Mild or Modest nature can be used, depending on the move in the fourth slot; Outrage or Focus Blast, respectively. While the additional firepower is appealing, this is not recommended, as Reshiram will not outspeed positive-Speed natured Deoxys-A, +1 Jolly Blaziken, and base 90 Choice Scarf users such as Zekrom and Kyogre. Stone Edge is an alternative to OHKO Ho-Oh instantly, but Outrage 2HKOes it already, and provides better coverage than Stone Edge. Haban Berry can be used to defeat the faster Dragon-type Pokemon lurking in the tier, especially Choice Scarf Palkia; Haban Berry allows Reshiram to survive a Spacial Rend, and from there Reshiram can reach +2 Speed with Flame Charge, and OHKO Palkia with Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse.

Forretress is an ideal partner. It has amazing synergy with Reshiram and can use Volt Switch to bring in Reshiram safely. Moreover, Forretress can spin away the entry hazards that bother Reshiram on its sweep and lay entry hazards of its own to make Reshiram's sweep much easier. Groudon makes the weather sunny, boosting Reshiram's signature move, and can also lay down Stealth Rock, which allows Reshiram to score more KOs, such as nabbing a KO against Psycho Killer Mewtwo with Blue Flare. Wobbuffet support is also recommended; it can Encore a Fire-type move for Reshiram to come in on safely, beat Choice Scarf users such as Palkia, Garchomp, and Terrakion, and protect Reshiram from status inflictions with Safeguard. Scizor, like Forretress, also pairs perfectly with Reshiram and can use U-turn to send Reshiram in safely, but is capable of beating faster Choice Scarf users with its priority STAB Bullet Punch. The Mixed Flame Charge set lures special walls such as Ho-Oh, Blissey, and Chansey perfectly and weakens them with Outrage. Therefore, a special sweeper could take advantage of that and attempt a sweep. Darkrai and Venusaur are prime examples that could fill that role. However, if running a full special sweeper set, Reshiram will switch roles, as a special lure such as Palkia or Dialga will weaken Reshiram's enemies, making its sweep a lot easier.

[Other Options]

AncientPower can strike Ho-Oh very hard and not risk a miss, but it does not OHKO it without Stealth Rock support, whereas Draco Meteor does about the same damage. Dragon Tail can be used to phaze common switch-ins, such as Kyogre and Chansey, stacking more hazards damage on them. Substitute also lures in these switch-ins and allows Reshiram to sneak in a free hit, wearing these foes down. Moreover, Reshiram forces a lot of switches, allowing it to set up a Substitute safely. Hone Claws can be used to take advantage of Reshiram's respectable base 120 Attack stat, but Reshiram's physical movepool is rather shallow, so it is better off sticking to special sets. Overheat is only 10 BP higher than Blue Flare and a bit more accurate, but the Special Attack drop after its use makes it the worse move. Reshiram gets access to both Light Screen and Reflect, supporting itself and its teammates, but Reshiram's weakness to entry hazards and common attacks limits the opportunities for it to set them up. As said, Kyogre and Tyranitar are common switch-ins to Reshiram. Thus, Reshiram can utilize Sunny Day and SolarBeam to defeat them; on a predicted switch-in, use Sunny Day, and from there proceed to strike them hard with SolarBeam. Draco or Flame Plate can be used to bluff a Choice item and boost Reshiram's STAB moves, but Choice Specs or Life Orb are better options, as they grant a larger boost to all of its moves.

[Checks and Counters]

The definition of a counter is a Pokemon that can safely switch into any attack of the Pokemon it counters. As mentioned, Reshiram's STAB moves are resisted by nothing due to its fantastic Turboblaze ability. Yet, with good prediction, there are a few Pokemon that can switch into Reshiram safely thanks to to their resistances.

The first step in defeating Reshiram would be to get rid of sun. Kyogre and Tyranitar are the best options for this role, as hail is not a good weather in the Ubers metagame. They can both switch into Blue Flare, change the weather to rain or sandstorm, respectively, and strike back with a super effective Stone Edge or a rain-boosted Water Spout. Palkia, Rock Arceus, Water Arceus, Fire Arceus, and Ho-Oh can also switch into Blue Flare and defeat Reshiram, though the latter two need Stealth Rock off the field. Garchomp and Terrakion (along with Palkia) are good examples of Choice Scarf users that resist Blue Flare, though they won't be able to take a sun-boosted Blue Flare from the Choice Specs set. Kabutops and Kingdra quadruple resist Blue Flare, and are usually backed by rain support from Kyogre, thus they are great checks to Reshiram. Because of Swift Swim they are also faster than a +1 Reshiram, and both pack super effective STAB moves to use against it. Blissey and Chansey can handle any Reshiram bar the Choice Specs set when the sun is shining, and struggle against the Mixed Flame Charge set (though with smart play they can defeat it), by a combination of Seismic Toss, Toxic, and Softboiled. Entry hazards are a huge annoyance to Reshiram, as it is weak to all of them: Stealth Rock and Spikes strip off 25% of its health each, and Toxic Spikes put great pressure on it. Being poisoned in general is an annoyance to Reshiram, because it limits its lifespan on the battleground.

Did you go and test the Sub + 3 attacks set that I suggested in Ubers DST? It seems to have some potential as it eases up prediction. Yeah, you can't beat the blobs, but you're bordering on not beating them anyway. I know I was testing it on a rain team and it's not that good, but this is for a sun team.

Jibaku's the one who suggested Flame Charge, but I personally like Focus Blast better in the end so you can kill Tyranitar and hit Dialga hard if Kyogre does come in to bring in the rain.

Also, slash Timid with Modest on the Specs set. I know that trickroom and I both think Modest is better, but don't forget Timid as well, it's still very much viable. Everything else looks fine.

I actually have, shrang; I've thought about it for quite a long and discussed it a few times in #ubers. I came to a conclusion that Ho-oh outclasses this set in every thing; it can Roost the Sub off, is much bulkier, and can get past the blobs -- but of course gets bitchfucked by Giratina.

I have also thought of running a Dual Substitute on a sun team, but that would make the team far too weak to Stealth Rock, and as we all know Rapid Spinning in Ubers is quite a hard task to do.

I'll add Timid.

- Palkia or Grass Arceus can defeat Kyogre, who takes the sun away
Don't know about Grass Arceus, because it frankly is totally horrible on a sun team. It IS a good check to Kyogre, I'll give you that.

Also, is it just me, or does anyone else not like Draco Meteor in the Flame Mix set? I mean, the point of using Flame Charge is so you have a chance to sweep, and Draco Meteor completely ruins that. I don't know.

Anyway, everything else looks fine, IMO.

Done and done. I've reworded Draco Meteor on the Flame Charge set and slashed Dragon Pulse with Draco Meteor.

Thanks shrang, keep those coming guys!

You can probably mention Toxic Spikes support from Forretress somewhere as it helps Reshiram blow past Chansey easily, especially if you are using the Mixed set. Kyogre doesn't enjoy Toxic Spikes either.

Funny but Fire Arceus can check Reshiram, with Calm Mind Recover and a bulkier spread. +2 Spacial Rend KOes Reshiram. Substitute Reshiram seems good for punishing sun teams, Ho-Oh can do that too but Reshiram can OHKO Groudon, Heatran and Giratina with Blue Flare or Draco Meteor in Giratina's case. Giratina-O can defeat Ho-Oh if Stealth Rock is out but Reshiram can just blasts through Giratina formes.

The odd Gastrodon sucks otherwise but it defeats most Kyogre versions and happens to wall Scarf Palkia, Kabutops and some Tyranitar as well.

I will look further into Substitute Reshiram and test it; I might post it as a seperate set because it might take a while.

Will implement the changes, thanks trickroom.

OK, so i finally ditched my cbf style and came here.

So yeah, give a greater mention of Forretress. That thing is absolutely a godsend for Reshiram. It can take Dragon-type hits for Reshiram as well as use Rapid Spin to remove hazards. Forretress can also provide both Spikes and Toxic Spikes which are critical. Toxic Spikes are hated by stall and maims Chansey while Spikes are more useful against balance or offensive teams. Forretress can also utilize its slow Volt Switch to get in Reshiram safely and Reshiram can easily scare off Giratina-O.

I'd like to see some mention of Paralysis support for Specs Reshiram especially Paradancer Groudon and similar.

As well as being stopped by (and, by extension, enjoying the same support as) the Choice Specs set, this Reshiram's lower amount of power mean s that it is more troubled by defensive Pokemon such as Lugia and Cresselia.
Timid Scarf Reshiram Sun Blue Flare vs 252 / 76 Lugia: 55% - 64.9%
Lugia definitely wont like taking a Blue Flare in the face in sun so remove that. Mention Dark Arceus as well as a teammate to beat Stall easily.

What the hell is Imprison doing in OO ?!??! Get rid of it please. I'm going to be testing out a Substitute set though it could be useful for just easing out prediction in general as well as being a Sun teams nightmare. Till then:

In addition, Forretress is capable of laying both Toxic Spikes and Spikes, that which allow Reshiram to get past walls,(Remove Comma) such as Chansey and Blissey. Moreover, Forretress can utilize Volt Switch to send Reshiram in safely. For example, in most situations the Giratina formes will switch into Forretress predicting the Rapid Spin, but once it Forretress has used Volt Switch to switch in Reshiram, they won't be able to do anything but switch out or get destroyed by Reshiram.

A Ghost-type of your own is recommended, such as the Giratina formes or Ghost Arceus, as keeping entry hazards on the opposing field side is a bliss for Reshiram. As long as Stealth Rock is up on the field, Ho-oh Ho-Oh will not be able to counter Reshiram reliably, as it gets OHKOed by Draco Meteor after the damage from Stealth Rock. Palkia and Water Arceus defeat Kyogre, thus they are great teammates. They also work well under the sun, unlike Grass Arceus, which may beat Kyogre,(Remove Comma) but it does not work as well as Palkia or Water Arceus under sun. If running a mixed set, Palkia can lure in and destroy the pink blobs, Chansey and Blissey, which annoy Reshiram in its sweep. Dark Arceus tears Stall stall teams apart, thus it makes a good partner, especially as Stall stall teams usually stack many entry hazards up. Gastrodon defeats Kyogre, Choice Scarf Palkia, Kabutops, and Tank Tyranitar, so it makes a decent partner, but it is a set-(Remove Hyphen)up bait to for many Pokemon, such as Rayquaza and Arceus.

[Set Comments][SET COMMENTS]

With a Choice Scarf attached, Reshiram can becomes a formidable revenge killer,(Remove Comma) allowing it to that can outrun every Pokemon commonly seen in Ubers except for Deoxys-S. Reshiram's insanely potent sun-boosted Blue Flare in the sunlight inflicts a ton of damage even when unboosted without Choice Specs, serving as making it a nice clean up tool late game lategame. For example, Blue Flare in the sunlight will usually OHKO Mewtwo.

Dragon Pulse is another Dragon-type STAB attack that's useful for for situations when where Reshiram cannot afford to miss, such as against another Dragon-type Pokemon it is attempting to revenge kill. Stone Edge is also an option if your team really hates Ho-Oh, as it will always OHKO the rainbow phoenix. However, Stone Edge deals piddly damage to most other targets, and can leave Reshiram vulnerable to being set up on. A Hasty nature should be used when using Outrage or Stone Edge; otherwise, you will want a Timid nature so as to not lower Reshiram's defenses.

[Additional Comments][ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Because Reshiram appreciates any form of support that will allow hit to harder it to hit harder, filling its role as a nuke, a positive-Special Attack raising nature can be used over Timid or Hasty. A Modest nature should be used when running a full-special set, whereas a Mild nature makes is the better option when using Outrage or Stone Edge over Flamethrower.

As well as being stopped by (and, by extension, enjoying the same support as) the Choice Specs set, (Huh?) this Reshiram's lower amount of power mean s means that it is more troubled by defensive Pokemon such as Chansey and Cresselia. Wobbuffet is also a problem for Choice Scarf Reshiram, as it can trap it with Shadow Tag, survive one of any of its moves, and KO it with Mirror Coat. However, all of these Pokemon have one thing in common: they hate Toxic. A defensive Groudon makes an excellent lure to for Lugia, Cresselia, and Wobbuffet, as they will switch in expecting to come in relatively easily only to be crippled by Toxic. However, trying to use Toxic on Wobbuffet can be risky, as it can possibly turn Groudon into setup bait with Encore and Safeguard. Therefore, setting up Toxic Spikes (done handily by Forretress) before Wobbuffet switches in, or using a mixed attacker such as Dialga or Palkia to lure in and KO it, are more effective ways to deal with it. Darkrai can also turn Lugia, Cresselia, and Wobbuffet into setup bait with Dark Void.

[SET COMMENTS]

After a single Flame Charge,(Remove Comma) Reshiram reaches 459 Speed, mimicking a Choice Scarf boost,(Remove Comma) while still retaining the ability to hit hard and switch moves. After the Flame Charge boost, Reshiram outspeeds a vast amount number of threats, such as Deoxys-A, Mewtwo, and Darkrai. While it may seem as though this set lacks coverage, Reshiram's STABs moves form prefect have perfect coverage,(Remove Comma) due to Turboblaze. Blue Flare, Reshiram's signature move, is also its main attacking move, doing and deals enormous amount of damage on to many foes; it can 2HKO Blissey assuming Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and sun support are present. Draco Meteor deciamtes decimates any Pokemon that resists Blue Flare, such as Palkia, Kyogre, and Tyranitar, though the latter two will not be OHKOed. However, if the Special Attack drop does not catch your eye tickle your fancy, (Catch your eye means to notice something.) Dragon Pulse is a viable alternative, though the power difference is notable. Outrage allows Reshiram to get past annoyances,(Remove Comma) such as Kyogre, Tyranitar, Ho-oh Ho-Oh, Blissey, and Chansey, which can sponge Reshiram's attacks with their high base Special Defense. Although, Focus Blast is a better option to hit Rock Arceus, Tyranitar, and Dialga, as all are hit for super effective damage.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A Mild or Modest nature can be used, depending on what is Reshiram's the move in the fourth slot,(Semicolon) Outrage or Focus Blast, respectively. While the additional firepower is appealing, this is not recommended, as Reshiram will not outspeed positive-Speed natured Deoxys-A, +1 Jolly Blaziken, and base 90 Choice Scarf users such as Zekrom and Kyogre. Stone Edge is an alternative to OHKO Ho-oh Ho-Oh instantly, but Outrage 2HKOs 2HKOes it already, and it provides better coverage than Stone Edge. Haban Berry can be used to defeat the faster Dragon-type Pokemon lurking in the tier, especially against Choice Scarf Palkia; Haban Berry allows Reshiram to survive a Spacial Rend, and from there Reshiram can reach +2 Speed with Flame Charge, and OHKO Palkia with Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse.

Forretress is an ideal partner. It synergizes perfectly has amazing synergy with Reshiram, and can utilize use Volt Switch to bring in Reshiram safely. Moreover, Forretress can Rapid Spin away the entry hazards that bother Reshiram on its sweep, and lay entry hazards of its own to make Reshiram's sweep much easier. Groudon sends the sun rays out, boosting Reshiram's signature move, and can also lay down Stealth Rock, which allows Reshiram to score more KOs, such as Blue Flare against Psycho Killer Mewtwo becoming a sure OHKO. Wobbuffet support is also recommended; it can Encore a Fire-type move for Reshiram to come in on safely, beat Choice Scarf users such as Palkia, Garchomp, and Terrakion, and protect Reshiram from status infections inflictions with Safeguard. Scizor, like Forretress, also synergizes pairs perfectly with Reshiram and can also utilize use U-turn to send Reshiram in safely, but is capable of beating faster Choice Scarf users with its priority STAB Bullet Punch. The Mixed Flame Charge set lures special walls such as Ho-oh Ho-Oh, Blissey, and Chansey perfectly and weakens them with Outrage. Therefore, a special sweeper could take advantage of that quality and attempt a sweep. Darkrai and Venusaur are prime examples that could fill that role. However, if running a full Special Sweeper special sweeper set, Reshiram will switch roles, as a special lure,(Remove Comma) such as Palkia or Dialga,(Remove Comma) will weaken Reshiram's enemis enemies/foes/checks, making its sweep a lot easier.

[Other Options]

AnicentPower AncientPower can be used to strike Ho-oh Ho-Oh very hard and not risk a miss, but it does not OHKO Ho-oh Ho-Oh without Stealth Rock support, whereas Draco Meteor does about the same damage. Dragon Tail can be used to phaze common switch-ins, such as Kyogre and Chansey, stacking more hazards damage on them. Substitute also lures in these switch-ins, and it allows Reshiram to strike them with its sheer power sneak in a free hit, wearing these foes down. Moreover, Reshiram forces a lot of switches, allowing it to set up a Substitute safely. Hone Claws can be used to take advantage of Reshiram's respectable base 120 Attack stat, but Reshiram's physival physical movepool is rather shallow, so it is better off sticking to special sets. Overheat is only 10 BP higher than Blue Flare and is a bit more accurate, but the Special Attack drop after its usage makes it the worse move. Reshiram gets access to both Light Screen and Reflect, supporting itself and its teammates, but Reshiram's weakness to entry hazards and common attacks limits the opportunities for it to set them up. As said, Kyogre and Tyranitar are common switch-ins to Reshiram. Thus, Reshiram can utilize Sunny Day and SolarBeam to defeat them; on a predicted switch-in, use Sunny Day, and from there proceed to strike them very hard with SolarBeam. Draco or Flame Plate can be used to bluff a Choice item and boost its STABs Reshiram's STAB moves, but Choice Specs or Life Orb are better options.(Why?)

[Checks and Counters]

Counter's defintion is a Pokemon that can switch in safely on any move of the Pokemon it's switching into. The definition of a counter is a Pokemon that can safely switch into any attack of the Pokemon it counters. As mentioned, Reshiram's STABs STAB moves are unresisted, resisted by nothing due to its fantastic ability Turboblaze ability. Yet, with good prediction, there are a few Pokemon that can switch into Reshiram due safely thanks to to their resistances.

The first step in defeating Reshiram would be to block the sun rays get rid of sun. Kyogre and Tyranitar are the best options for this role, as Hail hail is not a good weather in the Ubers environment metagame. They can both switch into Blue Flare, change the weather to rain or sandstorm, respectively, and strike back with a super effective Stone Edge or a rain-boosted Water Spout. Palkia, Rock Arceus, Water Arceus, Fire Arceus, and Ho-oh Ho-Oh can also switch into Blue Flare and defeat Reshiram, though the latter two need Stealth Rock off the field. Garchomp and Terrakion (along with Palkia) are good examples for Choice Scarf users that resist Blue Flare, though they won't be able to take a sun-boosted Blue Flare from the Choice Specs set. Kabutops and Kingdra quadruple resist Blue Flare, and are usually backed by rain support from Kyogre, thus they are great checks to Reshiram. Because of Swift Swim they are also faster than a +1 Reshiram, and both pack super effective STABs moves to use against it. Blissey and Chansey can handle any Reshiram but bar the Choice Specs set when the sun is shining, and struggle against the Mixed Flame Charge set (though with smart play they can defeat it), by a combination of Seismic Toss, Toxic, and Softboiled. Entry hazards are a huge annoyance for to Reshiram, as it is weak to all of them: Stealth Rock and Spikes strip off 25% of its health each, and Toxic Spikes put great pressure on it. Being poisoned in general is an annoyance for to Reshiram, because it limits its lifespan on the battleground.

GP Approved 1/2

[Overview]

Reshiram is one of the biggest impacts, if not the biggest, BW's release had on the Ubers environment. Enourmous(Enormous) base 150 Special Attack,{Remove Comma} coupled with a high base 120 Attack, {remove comma} makes it a great threat to any team, and one of the most dangerous Ubers in the history of Pokemon. Reshiram's greatest quality is undisputedly its STABs. Fire- and Dragon- coverage is only resisted by Heatran, as Flash Fire drains any Fire-type moves, but due to Reshiram's ability, Turboblaze, Heatran is not safe from Reshiram—and so is any other Pokemon. Its signature move, Blue Flare, is so powerful, it is capable of 2HKOing Chansey, which is known for being the best special wall in the game, when backed by sun support and Choice Specs. However, the great blazing dragon does have his downfalls. It is weak to any sort of entry hazards; Stealth Rock strip off 25% of Reshiram's health each time it switches in, and so are 3 layers of Spikes, whereas Toxic Spikes put great pressure and limit its already short lifespan, and is weak to common Ground- and Dragon-type moves. Moreover, because of its mediocre Speed, Reshiram is beaten by common threats such as Rayquaza, Palkia, and Arceus. Nevertheless, Reshiram is a top-tier threat in the Ubers environemnt (environment), and being unprepared will result in your team getting nuked up!

[SET]

move 2: Blue Flare
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Flamethrower / Focus Blast
item: Choice Specs
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Modest / Timid

[SET COMMENTS]

This is without a doubt Reshiram's most frightening set. When equipped with Choice Specs, Reshiram's Special Attack skyrockets to a staggering 657, making it a very powerful nuke. A sun-boosted Blue Flare coming from this set almost matches the power of Choice Specs Kyogre's rain-boosted Water Spout. There's absolutely nothing that is safe from a sun-boosted Blue Flare, unless the opponent is packing a quadruple resist to Fire, such as Kingdra and Palkia, or Kyogre, which weakens Blue Flare with the rain it summons. Even the best special wall in the game, Chansey, risks being 2HKOed; Reshiram has 87.51% to 2HKO it with Stealth Rock damage. A Careful Dialga with 252 EVs in both HP and Special Defense is OHKOed, as long as sun is in presence. Draco Meteor snipes down everything that tries to switch into a Blue Flare; Tyranitar takes about 75% from its health from two following Draco Meteors in sandstorm, 52 HP EVs Timid Kyogre (the Choice Scarf set) is OHKOed with Stealth Rock, and 192 HP and 76 Special Defense Ho-oh is 2HKOed as well. If Ho-oh as taken Stealth Rock damage, it will be OHKOed with an ease by a Draco Meteor.

While Dragon Pulse and Flamethrower are weaker than Draco Meteor and Blue Flare, Reshiram will be in situations it cannot afford a miss—and this is where they get into action. For example, if the opponent has a Kyogre with about 70% of its health left, Dragon Pulse would easily OHKO it on the switch-in, putting some pressure off of Reshiram. Focus Blast strikes Tyranitar and Rock Arceus much harder than Draco Meteor, making it a viable option over neither Dragon Pulse or (nor) Flamethrower. In fact, Focus Blastt(Blast) OHKOs Rock Arceus outside of sandstorm and without Calm Mind boosts, whereas Tyranitar is obviously OHKOed. However, doing so makes Reshiram prone to Ghost-types, that can now switch in safely, and set up, such as Ghost Arceus and the Giratina formes. Moreover, using Focus Blast on Reshiram makes it an easy target for Wobbuffet; Wobbuffet can come in on the resisted Focus Blast, trap Reshiram with its ability Shadow Tag (which doesn't get negated, as Turboblaze only affects Reshiram's attacks), and Magic Coat Reshiram repeatedly until it's KOed.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The nature and EV spread are quite straightforward; Modest nature, along with 252 Special Attack EVs, allow Reshiram to hit the hardest - fulfilling its job as a nuke. 252 Speed EVs allow Reshiram to outspeed what it needs: Rayquaza always uses a positive-Speed nature, Palkia is faster regardless of Reshiram's nature, and Zekrom is most of the time carrying Choice Scarf—abd when it doesn't—it's slower anyway. However, if you're still worried of Reshiram's Speed, Timid nature is not a bad option, but will result in less nuking power. The leftover EVs are dumped into Defense to preserve an odd HP number, which will lead to less entry hazards damage. An EV spread consisting 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe can be used over the current one, utilizing Reshiram's respectable bulk; Timid Choice Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend does 91.32% maximum, allowing Reshiram to revenge kill it. The bulkier spread does have his downfalls however. While it makes Reshiram a lot bulkier, entry hazards are lurking everywhere, and because Reshiram is hurt badly by them, it will result in being in the same KO ranges as the offensive spread.

Nothing is safe from switching into this monster, but there are a few specific Pokemon that can come in on certain moves and threaten Reshiram. Kyogre, Tyranitar, and Rock Arceus can switch into anything bar Draco Meteor or Focus Blast, and strike with their STABs, whereas the former two also take away the sun, decreasing Reshiram's power. While Chansey and Blissey cannot switch into a sun-boosted Blue Flare, they can switch into everything else and proceed to stall Reshiram with a combination of Toxic, Softboiled, and Seismic Toss.

Groudon is arguably the best teammate for Reshiram, as it not only summons the sun to boost Reshiram's power, it also capable of laying down Stealth Rock, which allows Reshiram to get some important KOs, such as against Choice Scarf Kyogre, which gets OHKOed by Draco Meteor after Stealth Rock damage. Forretress support is highly recommended; it can Rapid Spin away the entry hazards that bother Reshiram a lot, whereas Reshiram demolishes the Giratina formes, two common spin-blockers in Ubers. In addition, Forretress is capable of laying both Toxic Spikes and Spikes,{Remove Comma} that allow Reshiram to get past walls, such as Chansey and Blissey. Moreover, Forretress can utilize Volt Switch to send Reshiram in safely. For example, in most situations the Giratina formes will switch into Forretress predicting the Rapid Spin, but once it has used Volt Switch to switch in Reshiram, they won't be able to do anything but switch out or get destroyed by Reshiram.

A Ghost-type of your own is recommended, such as the Giratina formes or Ghost Arceus, as keeping entry hazards on the opposing field is a bliss for Reshiram. As long as Stealth Rock is up on the field, Ho-oh will not be able to counter Reshiram reliably, as it gets OHKOed by Draco Meteor after the damage from Stealth Rock. Palkia and Water Arceus defeat Kyogre, thus they are great teammates. They also work well under the sun, unlike Grass Arceus, which may beat Kyogre, but it does not work as well as Palkia or Water Arceus under sun. If running a mixed set, Palkia can lure in and destroy the pink blobs, Chansey and Blissey, which annoy Reshiram in its sweep. Dark Arceus tears Stall teams apart, thus it makes a good partner, especially as Stall teams usually stack many hazards up. Gastrodon defeats Kyogre, Choice Scarf Palkia, Kabutops, and Tank Tyranitar, so it makes a decent partner, but it is a set-up bait to many Pokemon, such as Rayquaza and Arceus.

Dragon Pulse is another Dragon-type STAB attack for situations when Reshiram cannot afford to miss, such as against another Dragon-type Pokemon it is attempting to revenge kill. Flamethrower is Fire-type STAB that is there for reliability as well. Outrage is also an option to hit Pokemon that have accumulated Special Defense boosts through Calm Mind, such as Kyogre, Latias, Latios, Giratina, and Mewtwo, and it also tears off a sizable chunk of Blissey's health. The Mixed Flame Charge set lures special walls such as Ho-oh, Blissey, and Chansey perfectly and weakens them with Outrage. [Overview]

Reshiram is one of, if not the biggest impacts BW's release had on the Ubers metagame. An enormous base 150 Special Attack stat coupled with a high base 120 Attack stat makes it a threat to any team, and one of the most dangerous Ubers in the history of competitive Pokemon. Reshiram's signature move, Blue Flare, is so powerful that it is capable of 2HKOing Chansey in sun with Choice Specs, as the held item, which is often touted as the best special wall in the game.

[SET]

move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Blue Flare
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Flamethrower / Focus Blast
item: Choice Specs
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

However, doing so makes Reshiram prone to Ghost-types, which can now switch in safely, and set up such as Ghost Arceus and the Giratina formes.

252 Speed EVs allow Reshiram to outspeed what it needs (which is what? You don't mention what it needs to outspeed.): Rayquaza always uses a positive-Speed nature, Palkia is faster regardless of Reshiram's nature, and Zekrom is carrying Choice Scarf most of the time, and when it doesn't—it's slower. However, if you're still worried about Reshiram's Speed, a Timid nature is not a bad option, but will result in less attacking power.

A Hasty nature should be used when using Outrage or Stone Edge; otherwise, you will want a Timid nature so as to not lower Reshiram's defenses.

[SET]
name: Flame Charge
move 1: Flame Charge
move 2: Blue Flare
move 3: Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
move 4: Outrage / Focus Blast
item: Life Orb
nature: Hasty / Timid
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

It has amazing synergy with Reshiram, and can use Volt Switch to bring in Reshiram safely. Moreover, Forretress canspin away the entry hazards that bother Reshiram on its sweep, and lay entry hazards of its own to make Reshiram's sweep much easier.

AncientPower can be used to strike Ho-Oh very hard and not risk a miss, but it does not OHKO it without Stealth Rock support, whereas Draco Meteor does about the same damage. Dragon Tail can be used to phaze common switch-ins, such as Kyogre and Chansey, stacking more hazards damage on them. Substitute also lures in these switch-ins, and allows Reshiram to sneak in a free hit, wearing these foes down.
