[Overview]

<p>Gastly used to be one of the most feared Pokemon in Little Cup. Its infamous; in particular, its nasty Substitute + Hypnosis set had users of all backgrounds screaming and ripping their hair out. Unfortunately for the floating gas bubble, Misdreavus was freed, Gastly, Misdreavus—who is arguably a perfected version of Gastly—was unbanned. Misdreavus sports a superior movepool, Speed, and has the highest base stat total in Little Cup. So why would you ever use Gastly with Misdreavus ruling the tier?</p>

<p>One of the highest Special Attack stats in Little Cup, meanings that it, unlike Misdreavus, Gastly doesn't have to rely on Nasty Plot to hit hard, unlike Misdreavus. Additionally. Additionally, especially if running a Modest nature, Gastly has the potential to beat Porygon, one of Misdreavus'sthe most popular counters, especially if running a Modest nature to Misdreavus. Unfortunately for the gas bubble, its pros stop here. When you are considering Gastly for a spot on your team, remember to play it to its strengths; name, most notably the ability to hit hard immediately. Although Gastly is outclassed by Misdreavus in numerous aspects, ityou'd be foolish not to consider this gas bubbleit on your team.</p>

<P>This is Gastly's most dangerous and well-known set. SinceAs Gastly is able to force switches easily, it makes for a great Substitute user.; furthermore, Substitute is incredibly useful on Ghastly becauseas it helps mitigate Gastly's mediocre bulk. Shadow Ball is the main STAB move, hitting most thingas it severely dents most opponents that doesn't resist it for a significant amount of damage. Sludge Bomb allows you to 2HKO Porygon sometimes without Stealth Rock, and always 2HKO the aforementioned duck when Stealth Rock is in play. Hypnosis is useful for shutting down Stunky, Gastly's largest counter, as well as any thing that threatens Gastly on the switch. Sludge Bomb allows Gastly to possibly 2HKO Porygon before Stealth Rock, and always 2HKO it if Stealth Rock is in play. Hypnosis is useful for shutting down threats on the switch, especially Stunky, Gastly's largest counter. Hidden Power Fighting is a legitimatn alternative option to hit Ferroseed and Magnemite hard as they, who otherwise wall this set.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>The EVs are rather self -explanatory: maximize yourGastly's Special Attack and Speed stats, and dump the rest of the EVs into HP and Defense to increase Gastly'its bulk. A Timid nature is preferred to outspeedas it enables Gastly to outrun Modest Gastly and all Natu sets. However,, but a Modest nature is useful for hitting incredibly hard right off the bat. Specifically, with a Modest nature,Modest Gastly will 2HKO all Porygon with Sludge Bomb. Oran Berry can be used in conjunction with Substitute to increases Gastly's longevity, when it's not taking hits of course. If you really want raw power, Life Orb is your item of choice; use Life Orb at your own risk, though, as Gastly won't be surviving for very long without an Oran Berry.</p>

<p>TeammatesPokemon that can deal with Stunky make for ideal partners. Diglett can trap and killsurvive a Sucker Punch to trap and eliminate Stunky, while surviving a Sucker Punch. Timburr can set up with Bulk Ups to the point where Explosion does minuscule damage and proceed to sweep. Scraggy uses Stunky for set up fodder and can proceed tocan set up freely on Stunky and sweep a weakened team. Both Eviolite and even Life Orb variants of Drilburr can take a Sucker Punch and then proceed to OHKO with Earthquake.</p>

<p>Gastly is best used on offensive teams since it can hit hard right off the batOHKO Stunky with Earthquake. Gastly's ability to hit hard right off the bat makes it a great fit for offensive teams. Entry hazards makease Gastly's sweeping job easy, and are highly recommended when running Gastly on your team. Dwebble is great for gettingcan reliably set up Stealth Rock and multiple layers of Spikes for, which benefits not only Gastly, but also the rest of your offensively based team. Ferroseed is arguably one of the best Gastly partners, as the gas bubbleGastly is immune to the Fighting-type attacks that plague Ferroseed. Ferroseed is also able to set up Stealth Rock and Spikes, which are useful on all offensive teams will find useful.</p>

<p>When equipped with a cChoice Scarf, Gastly becomes a potent revenge killer. Once again, Shadow Ball is the STAB move of choice as it hits most thingopponents hard. Sludge Bomb still nets a 2HKO on Porygon, and is a hard hittingpowerful secondary STAB move. Hidden Power Fighting in conjunction with Shadow Ball provides for perfect neutral type coverage and hitsgarners perfect neutral type coverage alongside Shadow Ball, and puts huge dents in Ferroseed, Houndour, and Magnemite hard. Trick is useful for cripplinges walls likesuch as Ferroseed, Munchlax, and Porygon., but Destiny Bond can be used over Trick tois an alternative as it gets rid of a Pokemon that mayight be troublesome for your team.</Pp>

<p>This EV spread is quite simple; maximize Speed and Special Attack to hit as hard and as fast as possible, the rest of the EVs are dumpedand put the rest in to HP and Defense to increase bulk. </p>

<p>Stunky still beats this Gastly with ease, so the teammates mentioned earliPokemon such as (examples) make for good teammates (don't assume the reader are still good. Timburr is good for setting upads the whole analysis). Timburr can set up with Bulk Ups all over Stunky, Scraggy can set up Dragon Dances over Stunky, andnd Scraggy with Dragon Dance, while Drilburr takes little from Stunky's attacks and can OHKO it with Earthquake.</p>

<p> Once again, Choice Scarf Gastly is best used on offensive teams due to its minuscule defensive stats and its large offensive prowess. LikeAs with all offensive Pokemon, Gastly appreciates entry hazards toas they let it sweep with more ease; as a bonus, Gastly blocks Rapid Spin. Dwebble is a fine partner for setting up multiple layers of Spikes and Stealth Rock, while Gastly blocks Rapid Spin. Ferroseed has decent defensive synergy with Gastly and can also set up Stealth Rock and Spikes while Gastly blocks Rapid Spin. Something to deal with Stunky, Gastly's best counter, is also an ideal partner. Timburr can set up Bulk Ups while taking little damage from any of Stunky's move. Scraggy can set up Dragon Dances and fear very little from the skunk. Finally, Drilburr can OHKO Stunky with a Earthquake while taking little from any of its mov, and can also set up Stealth Rock and Spikes.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Like most Pokemon found in RBY, Gastly has an enormous movepool. Rain Dance can be utilized but this is not advised because Gastly will have difficulty setting up the dance more than onceAs with most of its RBY counterparts, Gastly has an enormous movepool. It has access to Rain Dance, but will have difficulty setting it up multiple times in a match. Thunderbolt is a fine option to hit fast Water-types like, such as Staryu, before they have a chance to OHKO Gastly with their STAB moves. Toxic is useful for walls, namely Lileep in sand. Will-O-Wisp is useful forcan OHKO Gastly. Toxic is useful for walls, namely Lileep, while Will-O-Wisp cripplinges physical attackers that may switch into Gastly like Munchlax. Disable is useful for Porygon that only carry one move to hit Gastly withsuch as Munchlax. Disable helps Gastly combat Pokemon that only carry one move to hit it with, such as Porygon. Many of Gastly's other options are useless physical attacks like, such as Fire Punch, and are not legitimate optionsshould not ever be considered.</p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>SinceAs Gastly has a very narrow list of counters, you reallyone needs to do a good scouting Gastly'first scout its moveset. Gastly sSets not running Hidden Power Fighting are easily walled by Ferroseed, Scraggy, and Houndour. Ferroseed can set up entry hazards without having to fear Hidden Power Fighting; similarly, Scraggy can set up Dragon Dances without fearwho can set up entry hazards, as well as Scraggy, who can gain Dragon Dance boosts. Houndour deserves a special mention because it can trap and kill Gastly with Pursuit. However, iIf Gastly is using Hidden Power Fighting, it becomehowever, it is very difficult to take down without a Stunky. Once you've learned that your opponent's Gastly is running Hidden Power Fighting, you will need to be performing at the highest level possible. Switching in faster threats that resist one of Gastly's STAB moves is a good way to go about beating it.outside of Stunky. Faster threats that resist one of Gastly's STAB moves are often good switch-ins; Murkrow can switch into a predicted Shadow Ball and OHKO the bubble with Brave Bird, set up a Substitute on a predicted switch, or Sucker Punch a Choice Scarf Gastly. Faster Pokemon make for decent checks to Gastly as it is not at all bulky. Somevariants. Other examples arinclude Misdreavus, Abra, Staryu, and Choice Scarf Mienfoo.</p>
