Default Smogon University PO Statistics — June 2012
Exciting times! Usage-based tier shifts and the release of Pokemon Black & White 2.

Several people have asked me whether July 1 is really the best time to be updating the tiers, since all the newly released move tutors, pokemon, formes and Dream World abilities are bound to shake up the metagames. I say hell yes. By generating tiers this month, we're starting the BW2 metagame off on the best footing--like cleaning up your apartment right before a new roommate moves in. Furthermore, it's going to take the metagames time to adjust to the new formes, abilities and moves. Longer than one month, for sure, and we shouldn't be rushing to make tiering decisions while the new metagame is still evolving. Anything that's obviously broken can get banned into the borderline tiers. That's what they're for.

Dream World UU--like PU--is not an official Smogon tier. However, it's easy enough to come up with a banlist for it based on Dream World OU usage stats.

Note that while there is no Dream World UU ladder, you will be able to challenge people directly to DWUU battles on Pokemon Showdown, once the Dream World tiers are added.

This data only takes into account teams whose user has a current rating--as of 7/1--of 1337 or higher. In tiers where there were not enough players with a rating that high, I lowered the cutoff as specified.

You may now post. Tiers will be live on the Smogon PO server in just a few minutes.

Note the initial tiers for Kyurem-B/W, the Therian formes, Keldeo and that Snover has been removed from BL, since it can now be played with its Dream World ability.

Similarly, note that Sand Stream is now banned from UU (and lower tiers), but Hippopotas is still legal in the tier.

Metang 7th in RU1337 - Molk really did a fuckload of battles with that piece of shit.

Also the long awaited Scrafty and Mienshao are in UU! Mienshao should be fun to use :)

Also NU got screwed over once again, no RU dropdowns (Crustle :( ) and it lost its best spinner, Quag and Mortar. Predicting a rise in Armaldo and Wartortle and god forbid Torkoal

Whatevs sig. QC member for OU and Ubers, VM me for a look at your analysis. Just make sure it's good.

Also, if you want me to rate your team (OU/DW OU/Ubers), give me a VM. If I don't rate it, it's either 1) it's so shit it's too much trouble, 2) I'm busy, or 3) the team is fantastic and I have nothing I can suggest to you. You should be able to recognise which one.

I think this is going to be a pattern in NU. A lot of the best mons leaving up to higher tiers, and tons of low 'PU' mons rising up to fill that usage. A lot of PU mons are great in NU anyways. Swanna anyone?

The UU tier is going to be completely different now that sand and Mew are gone and Mienshao, Scrafty, and Ditto are added to it, can't wait to see how it turns out. I just hope to god Chansey never drops.

Here are the rise and fall of placements for the Pokes in OU. I also included the rise and fall in percentage of use as well. I did this because the number of spots increased isn't the best indication of a rise and fall of usage. For example even though Tyranitar only rose 2 spots, its usage in OU rose is greater than Torndaus', who rose 7 spots. It was compared to this For wilespade!

edit: Also, take into account that the PO server received competition from Showdown this month. That is why the number of times used (usage) is smaller than last month's.

Why Garchomp don't follow the steps of Snover down from Uber, if It already has DW ability?

I've actually been asking the same question. There's a chance it might be re-tested and Sand Veil might be banned from all tiers, but the people I've talked to are hesitant.

Sand Stream and Snow Warning are what was banned from UU, and not the pokemon themselves. Therefore if the ability Sand Veil is banned, I could see this retest happening. But it would be a terrible precedent to set if you just started allowing any pokemon into a tier without certain abilities, unless the ability itself is banned. With your reasoning, something like Scizor should be tested in UU because without Technician it wouldn't be overpowered.

Thanks Antar; fantastic job, as usual!

I'll post more insightful comments later, but I'm happy that Abomasnow is full on OU now. I've personally been seeing it quite a bit. Good to see it getting some proper use, thanks to its resistances and Snow Warning =)
