Rediamond vs. Frosty Trapped in the spider's web

Oh...hello everybody. I'm here with another match between Rediamond and Frosty, or at least I'm supposed to be. I got to the location marked on my map and I ended up trapped in this giant spider's web. This is the last time I trust an innkeeper when the map clearly shows a haunted forest.

Huh? Wait here they are now actually. Well since I'm here, I may as well try to ref, though I may have difficulties getting out of this mess.

The Rules said:

Arena: Verde Insect Park-The Web
Inside of a prominent Insect Research Center, one huge room rises up seven floors to the top of a massive dome. The trainers will fight five stories up in it, on a gigantic web system that effectively traps all Pokemon on it and prevents easy escape. As such, digging and flying will be extremely difficult for Pokemon not used to navigating webs or strong enough to break through it. The web is used as a research facility for all kinds of bugs, and has a climate control system to recreate any types of weather. The director has generously allowed both sides to use it for the battle, and all weather will work. However, there are no rocks or water pools and the web is completely fireproof.

Summary:
-Grounded Pokemon (bar bugs) will have -10% evasion and -5 base speed
-Only levitating/flying ground types and any bug may use fly, sky drop, or dig successfully
-Bounce will fail
-No natural rocks
-No natural water

Look at the irony here, I passed the DQ.

<_<.

Anyway, I had a big nice post written down. Until my computer froze that is, so here goes the abridged version.

Go Caffie the Syclant and Hector the Snorlax

Syclant: Taunt (Shuckle) - Blizzard - Earth Power (Drapion)
SUB 1: IF Shuckle uses Gyro Ball: Use Counter (Shuckle) and push actions back
SUB 2: IF Drapion uses Fire Fang A2/A3 AND Sub 1 doesn't apply: Use Counter (Drapion) and push actions back.

Snorlax: Body Slam (Drapion) - Double Edge (Drapion) - Body Slam (Drapion)
SUB 1: IF Drapion uses Evasive Agility: Replace action with Heavy Slam (Shuckle)
SUB 2: IF Drapion uses Dig not in a combo: Replace action with Earthquake

Okay, it seems about right. It won't work, but whatever.

Round 1: A Sticky Situation

Alright, so I managed to untangle myself from this web...somewhat, and after a kerfuffle on the reffing, I can now commentate.

Well, Syclant opens up by Taunting Shuckle, most likely saying things along the lines of "Haha you have the lowest attack stats in the game, you're a worthless pile of trash!". This seems to have upset Shuckle, preventing him from using most of his more viable tactics. In retaliation for making his companion feel bad, Drapion decides to Bite Syclant, doing reasonable damage. Snorlax, somehow not moving last in this battle, Body Slams Drapion. It appears Rediamond has started off with some bad luck, as that move paralyzed Drapion. Shuckle finally gets to move and Bug Bites Syclant, doing...scratch damage.

Syclant, sensing a really bad attack from Drapion, prepares itself for an attack. Snorlax on the other hand simply uses Double-Edge on Drapion for some good damage. However, it seems Syclant had a reason to be paranoid, as Drapion attacks with a fierce Fire Crunch combo that does absolutely massive damage to Syclant. Syclant seems ready to Counter this onslaught, but this was exactly what Rediamond wanted. In an instant, Shuckle comes out of nowhere and absolutely destroys Syclant with a Gyro Boulder combo! That's going to hurt Frosty.

While Rediamond's pokemon cooldown from that onslaught, Snorlax uses another Body Slam on Drapion, cutting him to almost half health.

As we conclude this round, we see that Rediamond has taken a rather tremendous lead, but Frosty is far from out yet? What will happen next? Who will be victorious? Will I ever actually ref a match on time? Stay tuned to find out!

Shuckle used double Gyro Ball, not double bug bite. And Syclant should've used Counter to match the fire fang. If my math is right, I should've saved myself a bit of damage and KO'd Syclant, warranting a reref.

I'll send Shiva the Destroyer, my Arceus!

<_<

Considering I don't really have an option, I will go with Dusclops with no item and all abilities >_>.

Actually, you could've evolved your Dusclops, provided its actually ha a battle as a Dusclops. Such is life.

Drapion: Taunt Dusclops~Night Slash Dusclops~Night Slash Dusclops
IF Dusclops uses Protect, use Brick Break Snorlax and push actions back
IF Duclops uses Counter, use Brick Break Snorlax and push actions back
Shuckle: Rock Slide~Stone Edge Dusclops~Rock Slide
IF Dusclops uses Protect action two, use Withdraw and push actions back
IF Duclops uses Counter, use Withdraw and push actions back

Actually I like Dusclops as is. I could have evolved him one year ago, but I prefer it unevolved for eviolite goodness.

Also I see a liiiittle breach.

hopefully.

Dusclops: Counter - Protect - Counter
Snorlax: Counter - Double-Edge (Drapion) - Body Slam (Drapion)

Which means that Drapion will Brick Break three times and Shuckle will withdraw all 3 actions. BB will deal 14 damage and counter 21 per turn which coupled with 19 from Double Edge and 14 from body slam takes drapion out. Sounds good. Of course I probably missed something, but oh well.

Also, I must say: It's a sad day when Snorlax is the fastest pokemon around.

Round 2: Defensive Duel

Welcome back, I'm here with two trainers who are currently slugging it out amongst themselves at...some kind of forest I think. I could be wrong but I'm probably not. Anyway, it seem the battlers are back to the offensive, so let's get to it.

Drapion, sensing that Dusclops is about to Counter his attack, instead attacks Snorlax with a force strong enough to Break Bricks. Despite the type advantage, it didn't do a ton of damage. Shuckle on the other hand tries to Withdraw, but fails due to the Taunt. In the meantime though, both of Frosty's Pokemon Counter the strikes that hit them. Snorlax does massive damage to Drapion, but Dusclops wasn't attacked. What is Frosty planning?

Well, Dusclops is still disinclined to attack, so he puts up a green Protective barrier to deflect attacks. In the meantime, Snorlax attacks with a devastating Double Edge on Drapion, which comes close to knocking it out. Drapion goes for another Brick Break, still only doing decent damage. Shuckle tries to Withdraw yet again, but fails yet again.

Snorlax, somehow the fastest of the group, manages to Body Slam Drapion, knocking it out instantly. Seriously though, how do you survive something like a Snorlax Body Slamming you? Ah well, Shuckle attempts another Withdraw, but finds himself in the same situation again. Luckily, as Dusclops Counters nothing again, his taunt wears off. That should help a bit.

Well, Frosty has comeback from last round's debacle, and is ready to show Rediamond's Bugs what for. However, Rediamond isn't anywhere close to out, and he still has somewhat of a lead. How will this end? Stay tuned.

I've been analysing this for a couple days and my conclusion is: there is a great problem.

...I have no idea which orders to give. Everything I think off ends up with a loophole. Damn you Shuckle!

Oh well, let's try this:

Snorlax: Fire Blast (pinsir) - Double Edge (Pinsir) - Fire Blast (Pinsir)
If Pinsir uses Bide against you, replace the last action with Protect
If Pinsir uses Focus Punch against you AND it is behind a sub, replace action with Counter

Dusclops: Confuse Ray (Shuckle) - W-o-W (Pinsir) - Night Shade (Shuckle)
If Pinsir is behind a sub A2, replace WoW with Astonish (Shuckle)
If Shuckle uses encore against you A2 AND the first sub doesn't apply, replace A2 with Protect and A3 with Disable (Encore)

A Lousy action is better than no actions for a CC-hungry battler, so there ya go.

Pinsir: Revenge Snorlax~Dig Snorlax~Revenge Snorlax
Shuckle: Helping Hand Pinsir~Chill~Helping Hand Pinsir

If I can get this down to 2 vs 1 I can put myself into a good position.

Round 3: Last Stand

Hello again. These two are dishing out the pain again to each other, and show no signs of letting up, so let's hop to it.

Shuckle actually opens this one off by giving Pinsir a Helping Hand. How is this going to work I wonder? In any case, Snorlax tries to roast Pinsir with a Fire Blast and does very good damage, while Dusclops sends out a Confuse Ray towards Shuckle that Intensely Confuses him. Despite that, Pinsir wants Revenge for that Fire Blast, so he gets a Helping Hand from Shuckle, and launches a devastating attack by throwing Shuckle at Snorlax, causing absolutely insane damage, more than a third of Snorlax's total hit points worth even!

Pinsir, knowing that retribution is coming soon, Digs underground to escape the wrath of his opponents. Snorlax tries to ram Pinsir with a Double Edge attack, but misses and rams into a tree. Meanwhile, Dusclops tries to send out some ghostly Will-o-wisp flames, but can't figure out where Pinsir is. Shuckle takes the moment to Chill out, despite his confusion. Pinsir, seeing that the coast is clear, comes out of the ground and does decent damage to Snorlax. Barring some hax, Snorlax might even go down this round!

Of course, as soon as I say that the hax hammer starts hitting Rediamond hard. Shuckle tries to give Pinsir another Helping Hand, but stuns himself by hitting himself. At least it didn't do any damage and Shuckle snapped out of confusion immediately afterwards. Unfortunately, hax still doesn't want to leave Rediamond alone, as Snorlax sends out a Fire Blast that burns Pinsir and does even more damage. Dusclops, almost oblivious to what's going on, simply hits Shuckle with a Night Shade which bypasses it's impressive defenses. coughbrokencough. Anyway, Pinsir responds with a Revenge, but it was far weaker than Rediamond was hoping I think.

Well, despite Rediamond's hax, he seems to have made impressive progress in taking down Snorlax. It's almost out of the count, but the fact that Dusclops has an option to deal good damage to Shuckle could spell Rediamond's doom. Who knows what will happen next. Stay tuned to find out.

What can I say? I enjoy possibly broken tactics.

Pinsir: Facade Snorlax~Earthquake Dusclops~Swords Dance
IF Dusclops uses Counter action two, use Swords Dance and push actions back
Shuckle: Safeguard~Chill~Stone Edge

According to my calcs Facade does 15hp of damage, so Snorlax should survive this (hopefully).

So yeah Hector, you'll go all-out.

Snorlax: COMBO (Tackle + Body Slam) at Pinsir - cooldown - Chill

Dusclops: COMBO (Focus Punch + Fire Punch) at Pinsir - cooldown - Chill
IF: For some god-forsaken reason Pinsir is still alive at A3, replace Chill with Shadow Punch (Pinsir)

Round 4: Turning Point

Well, hello again everyone. Rediamond and Frosty keep outmaneuvering each other, and we can only guess who's going to be the victor. Frosty seems to be planning something...

Well, Dusclops tries to tighten its focus for a devastating attack, but Rediamond's Pokemon ignore it. Pinsir strikes with a devastating blow courtesy of Facade and his Burn. However, due to said burn, Snorlax hung on with one hit point! Snorlax isn't too pleased about that, so he uses an absolutely devastating Body Crush combo. After several minutes of charging, Dusclops finally unleashes his attack, a Focused Fire Punch combo that knocks out Pinsir, although only barely. Shuckle doesn't even pay attention to any of this and sets up a Safeguard against status attacks...why?

Oh well, the second action finds our competitors taking a rest, absolutely exhausted from the match. Snorlax and Dusclops both had to cooldown, while Shuckle Chills off and returns some of his energy.

Well, Snorlax and Dusclops decide to recuperate their energy as well, but Shuckle has other ideas, and attacks Dusclops with a Stone Edge for respectable damage considering it's a Shuckle.

Well, now we're down to a brawl between three of the most defensive pokemon in the entire game, and each have their tricks to do only a little damage to each other. This could take a while...

I ref the next five rounds while the two most defensive pokemon in the game try to kill each other...great.

As much as I'd love a mano-a-mano stallfest, Snorlax is supposed to still have energy.

When a Combo is made with different attacks, the multiplier is 1.5 and not 1.75. To be more exact:

DA RULES said:
Different Attacks:
Base Attack Power = BAP 1 + BAP 2
Energy Cost = (EC 1 + EC 2) * 1.5
Effect Chance = Effect Chance 1 + Effect Chance 2
Stat Boosts/Drops = B/D 1 + B/D 2
Return Damage - Return Damage 1 + Return Damage 2
Recoil = Recoil 1 + Recoil 2 / # Recoil Moves
Accuracy = ((Accuracy 1 + Accuracy 2) / 2) + Spe Modifier

So the Combo is supposed to cost (8+5)*1.5-1= 18.5, leaving it with 2.5 + 12 = 14.5 energy (I don't know how it is supposed to be rounded).

It will probably faint next turn, but it still can shoot an attack.

right-o

Snorlax: Heavy Slam - Faint (Chill) - See A2 (Rest)
IF Shuckle uses encore against Dusclops A1, replace action set with: Chill - Rest - Rest

Dusclops: 15hp Substitute - Night Shade - Chill
IF Shuckle uses encore against Dusclops, replace respective action with Night Shade
