Round the first: A bout of rather unsavory status ailments


Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Mr. [CENSORED] and his hound are going to be overseas for a week or so, and therefore I, Alphonse Wellingham Georgington von Pretential the third, will be your host for tonight's battle, along with my most trusted companion, Socrates.

Now then. Tonight's bout pits the ASB initiate Matezoide against the veteran EndQuote in a doubles battle between unevolved pokemon. Despite the differences in experience, this should prove rather amusing for the audience here at ASB arena. Matezoide sends out his first two creatures - a Corphish named Rob and a Ponyta called Twilight - while Endquote summons a Chimchar called Kindle and a shiny Ralts under the name of Paradox.

The battle begins with Matezoide's pony staring into Paradox's eyes, and I would really appreciate not having to exercise retroactive continuity for this round anymore the Ralts is brought into a deep slumber. Kindle proceeds to take advantage of this use of Hypnosis by clapping his hands in a rather unrefined manner. Regardless, Twilight is flattered by this Encore. While the little Ralts is asleep, Rob proceeds to dirty him - and the rest of the pokemon on the field - until they are all Sporting large quantities of Mud. Such audacity...I would imagine they all need a bath when this is over.

Kindle, understandably upset from being dirtied, proceeds to deny Rob an attack by Faking the Corphish Out. Still euphoric from the encore, Twilight gazes hypnotically into Paradox's eyes, but one can't bring slumber to the sleeping, so her efforts are moot. With the remainder of the players incapacitated, nothing more occurs.

Again, Twilight performs another wasted session of Hypnosis, while Kindle delivers a Thunderous punch to Rob's maxillae - however, all that grime covering him lessens the impact of the blow. Paradox awakens, and realizing that there is a battle to be fought, shoots a small Bolt of lightning - not Thunder, lightning - upon Rob like an early dream of man. Again, the damage is buffered by the mud, but not enough to evade paralysis. Despite the grievous effects of said paralysis, Rob manages to perform a war Dance one would expect Dragon-types to use.

Little has happened in terms of damage, and it would seem that both of these trainers are more concerned with ruining each other's setting up. Unfortunately, we must wait for the trainers to give their next orders, so until then, listen to this word from our sponsors.

Paradox attempts to prevent Rob from performing by attempting to Disable his Crunch attack...however, how can he possibly do that when the Corphish hasn't even used it yet? Regardless, the attack is rendered moot, and Rob proceeds to overcome his paralysis and take a Crunch out of his antagonist.

Twilight's rage has left her unable to focus on Charming anyone, and in a rather mocking gesture, Kindle proceeds to give her an Encore anyway, only infuriating her further. Paradox and Rob ignore the tension between the two pyros and continue their dance, and while the former tries to hold the other back with Psychic forces, the latter manages to reach him and Scissor him in the shape of an X with his claws.

Flaming in body as well as vehemence, Twilight attempts to trample EndQuote's Chimchar by Stomping all over him, while Kindle drives her into even further rage as he ignores her like some kind of plebian in favor of compounding Rob's issues with a phantasmal Will-o-Wisp. In spite of this, the Corphish remains vis-a-vis with Paradox, who further attempts to slow him down by administering Psychic shocks. Unfortunately for Rob, his paralysis finally catches up with him, and he is unable able to move.

The battle has truly begin now. The odds are in Matezoide's favor, but only slightly, and there's more than enough opportunities for EndQuote to reverse his fortune. Twilight continues her bout of fury by trying to Stomp upon Kindle once again, and the Chimchar responds by...some kind of dance?

All the while, Paradox and Rob continue their fight to the death, the Corphish appearing to be preparing for an exceptionally powerful strike, whilist EndQuote's Ralts tries to stop him with Psychic force. Regardless, Rob manages to go through with his strategy this time around, combining two Crunch attacks to make Paradox Crunch...ier. Ugh, such a hideous pun...

Twilight is ordered to shield Rob from incoming attacks, but her mix of infatuation and rage leave her unable to focus, and she ends up doing naught - leaving the Corphish open to attack by both of EndQuote's pokemon. Kindle and Paradox take advantage of the grime having sloughed off all of them for the most part; the former delivering another Thunderpunch to Rob's crown while the latter shoots another Thun-er, lightning bolt, paralyzing him yet again.

Taking advantage of the weakened Paradox, Twilight aims to bring him down this time - letting loose the burning daimonji that is Fire Blast...the poor thing never stood a chance. However, Rob is grievously injured as well, something Kindle takes advantage of with a Brick Break to his maxillae...and he falls as well.

The deadly dance between Rob and Paradox has been ended by each other's respective allies, and thus the last pokemon of both sides shall take the field. Unfortunately, that'll have to wait, so until then, enjoy this word from our sponsors.
