Leader Zarator vs Challenger Engineer Pikachu! Halloween again!

Engineer Pikachu approaches the abandoned graveyard with a sense of foreboding - not only because the arena is suitably creepy, as can be expected from the ghost-type gym, but more because he is the first challenger of what is sure to be a tough gym!

The Rules said:

People have stopped burying people in this abandoned graveyard for centuries, but there is still an eerie aura all over the place. The grass looks more grey than green (despite this not affecting Grass-type moves at all), and most Pokemon and people avoid the place instinctively. Some trainers however still visit this place to strengthen the link with their Pokemon, especially Ghost-type ones.

The odd aura of this graveyard has several effects in battle:

  • Focus Blast has 100% accuracy, and the base power of Aura Sphere and Hidden Power is raised by (2). It is very easy to focus oneself's soul in this place.
  • Will-O-Wisp and Inferno have 100% accuracy. There are always wisps floating around to provide decent enough fodder for these wicked spells
  • Draining attacking moves have their base energy cost reduced by (2). Life energies are easier to drain and consume in this place.

This will be an interesting story, but... how to begin the first chapter? Let's try to start sharp!

Gym Leader Shauntal sends out Mask (Kitsunoh M)!
Mask has Limber!

Engineer Pikachu

Good morning, you bastards!
is a Contributor Alumnus

We're not going to come out of this round in a pretty position, are we? We may as well mitigate the inevitable disadvantage...

Tenma (F) @ Everstone
ABIL: Prankster

Damage we can certainly take to some extent, but tricks are perhaps more difficult to circumnavigate...

Taunt - Will-O-Wisp - Fire Punch

IF (Protect is used on A1) THEN (Use Shadow Claw - Taunt - Fire Punch instead)
IF (Magic Coat is used) AND (Mask is not Taunted) THEN (Use Fire Punch and push actions back)

Engineer Pikachu walks carefully up the stone path, adjusting his glasses as a chill wind pushes them slightly off-kilter. The graveyard seems completely empty; he looks worriedly for the gym leader, but finds nothing. Swallowing fearfully, he continues along the path.

Finally, Engineer reaches what appears to be the center of the graveyard, and he notices an flickering glow behind a dying tree. Moving towards it to inspect it, Gym Leader Shauntal rises up from behind the tree, approaching Engineer, and her Chandelure follows. After some minor pleasantries, Engineer backs up to the other of the edge of the uncleanly-marked arena, and Shauntal sets down her book.

Wordlessly, with a dramatic flourish of her pen, she sets something in motion. A quiet hiss rises from the distance, and Engineer glances around, searching for the source. With a glint of steel, Mask the Kitsunoh rushes onto the scene, its lithe body ready to spring.

Engineer, startled at the Kitsunoh's appearance, fumbles to grab his Pokeball, and sends out Tenma the Sableye to face this foe. A truly epic clash of ghosts! Mask senses incoming trickery, and throws up a shimmering Protective barrier to guard against anything coming from the imp. A good choice, too, as Tenma slashes out with a Shadow Claw, but the Sableye's claws just rebound off of the Protect.

Tenma now knows that Kitsunoh is completely vulnerable to her tricks, and begins dancing around mockingly, Taunting Mask with a wide grin. Mask's emotionless face stares out at the strange display for a short while, before suddenly rushing forward and Knocking Off Tenma's precious Everstone, making the Sableye significantly weaker. Tenma scowls and chatters angrily at Engineer, but her rage is cut short.

Mask continues to keep the offensive momentum, dashing towards Tenma, striking her, and backing away quickly in a U-Turn attack. He could not escape fast enough, though, as Tenma managed to snag a piece of ghostly fur and singe it with a Fire Punch. The Kitsunoh turns his head back before bounding off into the graveyard, out of sight. Shauntal eagerly scribbles something down in her notebook, presumably recounting the battle so far as poetically as possible.

Gym Leader Shauntal sends out Shar (Chandelure F)!
Shar has Shadow Tag!

Inferno - Hex - Fire Blast
If Sableye uses a Protective action on A1, replace your respective action with Sunny Day and push your actions back.

As Kitsunoh dashes off into the darkness, an eerie flickering glow appears behind the tree - perhaps this light is what Shauntal was writing by. As the light rounds the dying oak, it reveals itself to be Shar the Chandelure, eager to replace her ally in battle. Shauntal points her pen at the smiling Sableye, and Shar begins to drift into place.

As Shar floats towards her foe, Tenma snickers and fades into the darkness temporarily. When she returns to visibility, an arry of clones appear by her side, all of the Double Team clones with the same mocking expression planted on their face. Shar calmly unleashes a terrible Inferno of blazing power, but the flames just strike a clone.

Attempting to find the real Sableye, Shar fires off a stream of Hexing energy, but the ghostly energy just dissipates another fake Sableye. With a creepy synchronized giggle, the three remaining Tenmas rush in to the Chandelure and Thieve her of her precious Dusk Stone, and the shimmering illusion of the clones copies the stone as well!

Shar's strange aura of calm begins to crack as she haphazardly fires off a powerful Fire Blast, reducing the number of Sableyes too only two. However, both of these rush in for a dastardly Payback attack, furious that the Chandelure got to attack first! Shauntal frowns at the outcome of this round, but simply flips the page in her notebook and continues writing.

edit: the probability of hitting the real pokemon with clones up isn't affected by accuracy/evasion boosts/drops, but yeah it should've done 26 which means the chandelier at 51

Payback should've done 26 damage, not 29. (10+3+1.5+3)*1.5 = 26

EDIT: Also, seriously, have you taken into account that I had a flat +20% accuracy to all my attacks (10 from Chandelure's nature and 10 from Sableye's nature)? I could understand the first two misses, but how could Fire Blast not hit even a clone? Please, start showing rolls Leethoof <.<

I fixed the miscalculation (apparently, signature items are signature), and Fire Blast did hit a clone. Four from the start, and then -1 for Inferno, Hex, and Fire Blast, leaving one remaining clone. I will show rolls and specify this more clearly in the future.

You may now order, unless I screwed anything else up.

Shauntal twirls around slightly as she gives commands to her Chandelure. Turning back to her novel-in-progress and seemingly ignoring the battle, she reveals a slight smile as Shar obliterates both of the gibbering Sableye with a gusty Heat Wave, sending dead leaves fluttering up into the air, only to turn to ashes from the Chandelure's mastery of fire. Tenma is disappointed, but still Taunts her foe about all of the previous misses.

Shar continues the blazing assault by launching another hellish Inferno of pure spirit-bred hate at Tenma, scarring and burning the Sableye. Though weakened by the smoldering flames, Tenma does manage to strike back with a Payback.

Tenma tries to take cover from the unending fiery behind a short gravestone, but this rock is shattered by the sheer force of Shar's next rage-fuelled Fire Blast, striking the little gremlin as well. Tenma, now just as angry as her foe, rushes up and attacks with dark fervor, giving Payback for the flames.

It's not yet the moment for the protagonist to fall!

Gym Leader Shauntal withdrew Shar!

Gym Leader Shauntal sends out Beshaba (Mismagius F)!

Shadow Ball - Icy Wind - Shadow Ball
If Sableye uses Taunt, replace your respective action with Magic Coat and push your actions back. Don't play this substitution more than once.
If Sableye uses Confuse Ray (assuming he's not Taunted, of course), replace your respective action with Magic Coat and push your actions back. Don't play this substitution more than once.

As Leethoof plays the catch-up game, he unfortunately has to sacrifice flavor. Nonetheless, everything happens as expected (barring the Payback crit), with Beshaba the Masmagius finishing Tenma off at the cost of a large chunk of health. Engineer and Zarator then look at Leethoof's RP proposal!

Excellent job, Tenma; you've done more than I hoped for.

Kujira (F) @ Soft Sand
ABIL: Guts

Kujira, go! Take the lead and run!

Sand Tomb - Sand Tomb - Sand Tomb

IF (Non-combo Hypnosis is used) THEN (Use Sleep Talk [Crunch | Foul Play | Payback | Pursuit] instead)

Tenma finally fades into the deep mists swirling through them all the way back to her Pokeball. Replacing the fallen dark-type is another one; Engineer Pikachu releases the powerhouse Kujira the Collosoil.

Facing such a massive and burly (and highly feminine) Pokemon such as Collosoil, Beshiba intelligently creates a Protective barrier from eerie energy pulsing throughout the arena. Kujira takes no notice of the shimmering shield, sending up a whirlwind of dust to strike it.

Beshiba then furthers the trickery by cleverly Tormenting her opponent's mindless move-spamming, and Kurija is far too angry to do anything but burrow around in fury for a few moments.

Soon enough, though, Kurija sends out another Sand Tomb, only for it to be stopped by another Protect.

Round 6

Once upon a time there was this little Ghost with a pretty name. It was called Beshaba.

Actually that is a weird name, but I don't judge.

Anyway. After receiving a huge beatdown from the creature with jewelry as eyes, Beshaba now faces a foe with a drill for a nose.

The ghost had a plan, which was taken from the book of an old evil guy.

"IF I GO DOWN I AM GOING TO TAKE YOU WITH ME!" said the ghost with an eerie voice, like the one of a Banshee.

She tied her Destiny to his foe's with a Bond that many friends don't have. If the Narhwal were to defeat her, it would have to pay the price.

Or not.

Kujira's nose starts spinning slowly and a weird purple snot-like Toxic substance drips from it. The drill then spins faster and the snot is spread everywhere!

Even the Ghost with the weird name got poisoned. She probably didn't know she had the life force necessary to even be poisoned. But she did.

Beshaba then continues her plan, a plan that ultimately will bring her demise. As a ghost she is used to it, but even the worst of all creature fears hell.

It is not without a tear that the Banshee Taunts Kujira, waiting for the move that will tear her apart.

And that move comes and Kujira "walks" towards the ghost. Wrath is his eyes is like a flame and Beshaba sees in them her own doom...again.

But the narwhal isn't stupid, and just Pecks the Ghost. Beshaba survives and manages to get herself together....right before the poison hurts her and with a sharp scream she falls. And Faints. The poison can be seen dripping from her eyes and mouths and it is scary how it managed to spread so fast. A toxic lethal poison indeed.

The Gym Leader lost his first pokemon. Beshaba just faded away.

Now with a great disadvantage, (s)he will have to carry on. Somehow.

Mismagius: Destiny Bond for 14 energy
-1hp due to poison

Colossoil: Toxic for 7 energy

Mismagius lost 1hp due to poison

Mismagius: Taunt for 10 energy

Colossoil: Peck: 4+4.5 = 8.5 damage for 3 energy
Crit: 10 (no)

Mismagius lost 1hp due to poison

Mismagius fainted!
