Welcome to the Dragon-type Gym qualifier, where we can expect to see lots of trickery involved and little to no straight-out bashing. I think.

Candidate number one, Texas Cloverleaf, sends out his Garchomp aptly named Sharky, while candidate number two, AOPSUser, sends out his Haxorus in response, less aptly named Frodo. Both people toss out Life Orbs, which are very conducive to a less damage-reliant strategy. Very.

Sharky begins this match by invoking draconic power and causing several gigantic meteors to fall from the sky and fall strangely accurately onto Frodo's head, dealing large amounts of damage and causing a concussion. Frodo doesn't seem to be affected aside from a small wince, however, as he leaps forward and claws viciously at the Garchomp, leaving several deep wounds; unfortunately for him, Sharky's sandpaper-like skin scrapes his claws as he slices, dealing recoil damage!

Taking a brief break from attacking, Sharky grabs some of the largest boulders nearby, sharpens them to bits, and magically pushes them to the corners of the arena, waiting ominously; it looks like AOPSUser's going to be racking up a lot of damage over the course of the match. Frodo doesn't seem the least bit concerned, however, as he strikes Sharky twice with competitive mating spirit coursing through his veins; again, though, Sharky's abrasive skin causes him some pain.

Then, the two dragons go in a true head-to-head, using the same move with the same item; they leap forward at each other, claws outstretched, before slashing each other simultaneously. Both Pokemon emerge severely weakened, but still standing...[/box]

Frodo begins by channeling adrenaline through his veins, ensuring that he won't be knocked out by any direct hits. Sharky instantly recognizes this tactic, however, and sprays toxins all over the Haxorus' body, badly poisoning it.

In another quick bout of attacks, Sharky somehow summons a massive earthquake that rocks the entire arena to the core, yet Frodo manages to barely survive the hit. Frodo, in turn, leaps forward and slashes Sharky once more, sending it flying across the arena and knocking it out. The Garchomp's rough skin seems to be last nail in the coffin, however, as Frodo too falls unconscious.[/box]

With both sides having one fainted Pokemon, the two trainers ponder very briefly on who to send out next. Texas is slightly faster on the uptake and sends out Maleficient the Hydreigon; AOPSUser, in response, decides to send out Gimli the Garchomp with yet another Life Orb, who is promptly smashed by the ominous rocks on the edges of the arena. Wonderful.

Deciding that a little revenge is in order, Gimli mimics Texas' Garchomp from last round and enchants a bunch of rocks to stand like sentinels on the arena outskirts. That will pose a big problem to Texas in the future; in fact this battle will probably turn more into a Switch KO fight now due to hazards on both sides of the field. Maleficient isn't directly affected by this, however, and funnels a large quantity of draconic energy into a pulse before hurling it at Gimli for significant damage.

Enraged, Gimli lunges forward at that land shark mach speed and lands a devastating slice on Maleficient's main body, managing to claw at a weak spot. That put a significant dent in its longevity. Once again, though, Maleficient just continues to attack, firing off a second pulse of powerful energy; could Texas be going for a ORKO here?

But wait, the attacking doesn't stop here! Gimli, much like Texas' Garchomp, summons a meteor shower that pummels Maleficient repeatedly at the cost of his own Special Attack. Not to be outshone, Maleficient too summons a meteor shower, but it's not a normal meteor shower: it's a mega meteor shower. Double the meteors of double the size come raining down from the heavens above, all targeted at the poor Garchomp. Dust erupts up in plumes as each meteor makes contact in arena, leaving half the audience blinded and the other half suffocating. As the arena slowly clears, however, it's clear that Gimli is still standing? It seems that the entire attack has missed!

The only advantage Texas had entering this round was the boon of entry hazards, but that's been evened out and Maleficient is now down on both HP and EN, not to mention being forced to undergo a cooldown phase. The balance has certainly shifted![/box]

[box]Gritting his teeth after that horrendous miss, Texas Cloverleaf bitterly recalls Maleficient and sends out Tempest the Dragonite, armed also with an Expert Belt. The ominous rock sentinels that Gimli just set up suddenly come alive and smash into Tempest. Great.

With a mighty roar, Gimli charges forward without a worry in the world and smashes straight into Tempest, dealing significant damage; the Dragonite's inner focus seems to prevent itself from being too shocked by the attack, though. Flapping her wings to get some distance in between them, Tempest summons a gust of freezing wind that bites deep into Gimli and slows down its movement from mach speed to something that's much more easily dealt with.

Indeed, Gimli can't react in time before getting struck unconscious by Tempest's powerful beam of freezing ice. We've got another Pokemon down.[/box]

Gandalf bravely fights back with several blasts of energy, but it's a far cry to the damage he's sustaining. At long last, Slasher's alpha-male urge for dominance combined with massive attack and a great item completely overwhelm Gandalf, knocking it out just as Slasher becomes fatigued and confuses itself.
