cutest thing ever!!!

~QC stamps: 3/3~
~GP stamps: 2/2~

[Overview]

 • one of the lowest BST's in LC
 • terrible attack and empty movepool
 • slow and weak to fighting, the most prominent STAB in LC
 • lackluster defenses, meaning he can't take a hit
 • however, it has access to three things that would make it the best sweeper in LC: belly drum and extremespeed
 • Hard to setup, though, even with some invested bulk
 • still, it's one of the strongest attackers in the tier after a boost and can't be revenge killed at all

[SET]
name: Belly Drum
move 1: Belly Drum
move 2: Extremespeed
move 3: Seed Bomb
move 4: Protect
item: Oran Berry
ability: Pickup
nature: Adamant
evs: 196 Atk / 188 Def / 108 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

 • only needs one turn to sweep
 • Has 20hp uninvested, meaning after a belly drum oran berry restores all of its health
 • extremespeed is the primary STAB move, OHKOing everything not named Porygon, Missy or Lileep
 • Seed Bomb allows it to OHKO frillish and Hippopotas, two threats to the set
 • Protect is a mandatory move, allowing it to block mienfoo's and aipom' fake out, two foes that can halt its sweep

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

 • EV spread maximises its attack and allows it to survive attacks such as Staryu's hydro pump or adamant drilbur's earthquake, making them setup bait for him
 • no speed EVs since extremespeed outspeeds everything and seed bomb's targets are slower than him
 • likes magnemite support to eliminate bronzor and ferroseed, two threats to the set
 • pursuit users such as stunky or scarf scraggy are nearly mandatory too, since ghost-types not named frillish completely wall this set
 • also likes Lileep eliminated
 • no gluttony because extremespeed is event-only and it was released in R/S/E, meaning gluttony wasn't created yet

[Other Options]

 • thief to OHKO missy after rocks, however it's too slow to use it before getting killed by HP fighting
 • sub over protect+salac berry, however it makes it a lot harder to setup except on things like encored sr from wynaut and doesn't have any perks over the standard set except like being able to OHKO misdreavus after two SR switch-ins with seed bomb
 • suprisingly decent special movepool, but doesn't have the stats to pull it off
 • life orb all-out attacker mixed set could be used, but it's a relic of the past and eviolite pretty much killed it
 • support set with things such as thunder wave or encore, but way too low defenses
 • zigzagoon doesn't really have anything else to use

[Checks and Counters]

 • missy, duskull, drifloon...
 • lileep can take an extremespeed, but is 2HKOed by boosted seed bomb: however, it can cripple zigzagoon and heal itself to avoid the 2HKO with giga drain
 • ferroseed has iron barbs and resist seed bomb: also has leech seed to heal itself
 • bronzor could work, but no recovery hurts
 • opposing fake out if no protect is used
 • magnemite can take a hit if it's scarf, but has a 25% chance to be OHKOed

[Overview]

At first glance, it would seem Zigzagoon is a terrible Pokemon in Little Cup. It has some of the lowest stats in the tier, a barren movepool, and near-useless abilities. However, if you look a bit closer, you'll find two gems in its movepool: Belly Drum and ExtremeSpeed. If Zigzagoon can take a hit, it can just boost its Attack stat to four times its original level and sweep without the fear of being revenge killed thanks to ExtremeSpeed. If you learn to play to its strengths, Zigzagoon will prove to be a worthy member of your team.

[SET]
name: Belly Drum
move 1: Belly Drum
move 2: ExtremeSpeed
move 3: Seed Bomb
move 4: Protect
item: Oran Berry
ability: Pickup
nature: Adamant
evs: 196 Atk / 188 Def / 108 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Zigzagoon only needs one set to sweep, and it's this one. After only one turn of setup, its Attack stat is boosted to a jaw-dropping 52, easily OHKOing every common Pokemon in the tier. Oran Berry allows Zigzagoon to restore any HP lost while setting up, allowing it to always pull off a Belly Drum. From here, ExtremeSpeed will easily clean the opposing team, as not only does it have priority over normal moves, but also priority over other priority moves. There is room for only one coverage move in Zigzagoon's movepool; Seed Bomb allows it to easily KO bulky Rock- and Ground-types that might try to stop its sweep. It also scores an OHKO on Hippopotas, one of the bulkiest Pokemon in the tier. Protect is used to prevent Fake Out from hitting Zigzagoon, allowing it to continue its sweep unscathed.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EV spread maximizes Zigzagoon's Attack , while sharing the leftover EVs between Defense and Special Defense. There is no need for Speed investment on this set, as ExtremeSpeed is a priority move, and Zigzagoon is naturally faster than all of Seed Bomb's targets. Pursuit support or a way to eliminate Ghost-types is nearly mandatory, as nearly all of them can outspeed Zigzagoon and easily OHKO it. Magnemite is also appreciated as a teammate, as it has the Magnet Pull ability to trap the Steel-types that might wall Zigzagoon. Magnemite can also weaken Lileep with Flash Cannon, allowing Zigzagoon to KO it later. Pickup is the only option for this set, as ExtremeSpeed is an event-only move released way back in ADV. While essentially useless, Pickup can situationally come in handy to recover an opponent's consumed item for Zigzagoon's use.

[Other Options]

Other than its Belly Drum set, Zigzagoon doesn't have many options. Thief can be used to OHKO Misdreavus after Stealth Rock, but it doesn't have any other use, and Misdreavus will outspeed and KO Zigzagoon anyway with Hidden Power Fighting. A Substitute + Salac Berry set can be used, but it's way harder to pull off and it doesn't accomplish anything the Oran Berry set can't do, except outspeeding and KOing Misdreavus with Seed Bomb after two Stealth Rock switch-ins. A Life Orb mixed all-out attacking set was viable in DPP, but the existence of Eviolite in BW makes Zigzagoon's targets too bulky for it to break through. Zigzagoon has a decent support movepool, with moves such as Thunder Wave, Trick, Sunny Day, and Rain Dance, but it's way too frail to take advantage of it. Choice item sets shouldn't even be mentioned, as Zigzagoon is way too weak to inflict significant damage unboosted.

[Checks and Counters]

The best counters to Zigzagoon are Ghost-types: Misdreavus, Drifloon and Gastly all work wonders against it, as they can burn Zigzagoon with Will-O-Wisp or simply KO it right off the bat with Hidden Power Fighting, Acrobatics, or Sludge Bomb. Lileep is a decent check, as it can take an ExtremeSpeed nicely and retaliate with Giga Drain for the 2HKO; however, it must be wary of Seed Bomb, as it's 2HKOed by it. Ferroseed is another counter, as its typing grants it resistances to both ExtremeSpeed and Seed Bomb, and its ability, Iron Barbs, allows it to decrease Zigzagoon's lifespan if Zigzagoon attacks. Bronzor can work as a check, thanks to its high defenses, but its lack of recovery means it will have trouble stopping Zigzagoon if it's weakened. Magnemite can take anything Zigzagoon has to offer and threaten it with a powerful STAB Thunderbolt, but non-Eviolite Magnemite has a 25% chance to be OHKOed by +6 ExtremeSpeed. Dratini gets a special mention, as it has access to Extremespeed, too, and is faster than Zigzagoon: Dratini can proceed to KO Zigzagoon if Zigzagoon has received a bit of residual damage.

No point in including Gluttony in this line, you have to give up ESpeed for it.

You probably want to mention Pursuit somewhere in OO, as it does OHKO Misdreavus after Stealth Rock (while Seed Bomb barely misses the kill). Other than that this looks good, Ziggy is really underrated.

It actually can't get Pursuit, since it's an egg move and extremespeed is event-only. However, it gets thief, which essentially has the same base power. Adding it in, however it's way too slow and is gonna get killed by HP fighting before even having the chance to use it.

Shouldn't there be a line about pickup? That massive log from before doesn't exactly need to be there but it'd be interesting info, I'd bet most players don't know about it so...

The only thing left that I think deserves a mention is Dratini. Since it has a faster ExtremeSpeed, it can stop Zigzagoon's sweep if Zigzagoon took hazard damage or if Dratini is running max Attack (why Dratini's main spread has no Attack investment is beyond me).

Outside of that, excellent work!

Sorry, not to be rude, but I was hoping for a mention of what Pickup actually DOES for Zigzagoon. It's pretty obscure info and knowing what it does could help you out on occasion.

Edit: Yeah, I remember, like i said from the giant log. But it could activate, and since most players know it only as "that thing that gets ingame items",it'd be nice to just tell them about it.

Pickup doesn't exactly benefit Zigzagoon much; it only activates if 1. Zig has no item and 2. It's opponent consumes an item. It's very situational and has about 0 competitive use in Singles. However, no other ability is available with Extreme Speed.

I guess a line explaining that would be nice.

Fix your spacing, capitalize the S in ExtremeSpeed, and please pay more attention to maintaining a consistent pronoun for your Pokemon: you switch between addressing Pokemon as "he" and "it" and even call genderless Pokemon "he". I have changed all of these instances to "it".

Otherwise, decent writeup, though more clarity with what moves KO what Pokemon is needed (Seed Bomb OHKOing Misdreavus after two switch-ins to Stealth Rock and +6 ExtremeSpeed OHKOing non-Eviolite Magnemite could both have been more clearly spelled out). I should not need to go back to the skeleton to determine the meaning of a sentence.
