I was saddened by the locking of "the counter game" a while ago (though I do see why it was locked) and was trying to think of a way to modify it so it kept the new crazy interesting movesets bit, but fitted better with Smogons competitive side.
I have also been involved in the "Create-a-Pokemon" project since it started, and have borrowed some of its ideas.

Here is my idea:
6 Pokemon are chosen (1 Uber, 1 OU, 2 BL, 1 UU, 1 NU, I will chose the first set) they are narrowed down to 2 by a one day poll. Everyone who wants to trys to think up good new movesets for the Pokemon (includeing Item, Ev's, Nature, and preferably Set Comments), the new movsets are judged (by me, or if this thing gets big by one of a small team of judges)based on this score system (could be revised if someone has a better idea)

Points out of 20 for it being new and innovative (how different it is from other sets already made)

Points out of 10 for being powerful (how strong it is on its own, ability to sweep teams/wall threats)

Points out of 10 for team support (how much does it help the team?)

The top 5 new movesets, as determined by that system, will be put to vote. The person who comes up with the best new moveset gets to pick the next 6 Pokemon.

I think it may be fun, and we might find some cool new sets along the way.
 
This wouldn't really work as most of the best thought out and innovative but useful sets have already been created (not really created even - skilled battlers just look at the moveset of the Pokemon and think "Oh, this should work pretty well"). No doubt most of the movesets here would be gimmicky and not really worth using.

bolded the word i think is most important. Most, but not all. we may find the next ChainChomp/TyraniBoah.
The post new creative movesets here thread shows that not all the decent sets have been found.

I expect there would be some gimiky/rubbish movesets but they will be rated low, and not reach the voteing stage. This is smogon, not some noob forum, we can find something good.

The thing with ChainChomp and Boah is that a battler looked at their moveset, thought of what caused trouble for them (such as Bronzong for Garchomp), and created the moveset. An already-OU Pokemon was checked out and was found to be able to cause major trouble to something that already beat it. That's what most of these new "creative" sets are - not really creative or innovative at all, but just useful and involve common sense when making them.

Are there any other great sets out there that haven't been "found" yet? Of course, well, probably. However, the vast majority of them that will be found (or even that have been found - take Nasty Plot Weavile or that Kingdra one that was posted here yesterday as an example) will be decent-but-situational at best. There are already hundreds of decent battlers looking at Pokemon sets, stats, checking out the analyae etc. per day so it's not as if they're not even trying.

My thoughts are that this thread isn't really worth making. Go ahead if you wish, but I'm pretty sure that most others will agree with what I'm saying.

but it would be interesting to see weather if a group of people all looked at the same two pokemon they would find something new, take the scarfgardy that lou cypher made, or dragontamers moltres. They are new, and they are good.

maybe it will not work, but maybe it will. i would say its worth a try we might find something good.

Hm, we have a place to post creative movesets/spreads. How are we to say that this thread wouldn't possibly end up like that one?

This would be focused on two pokemon at a time, that pokemon will be looked at from every angle, and every possibly useable set will be tested. people will (hopefuly) give more than one rate to each decent moveset. I have seen decent new movesets in post creative movesets that have got one or no rates.

1. dont flame me, in wi-fi flames may be alowed by mods but hopefuly not here.
2. this is a different idea, they both invole movesets but that one was badly pland, and this is not about me makeing movesets, its about everyone read the OP.
3. dont swear at me.

if you have a problam with my idea, use logic not anger to express your opinion, and read the thing you are replying to.

that thread is for if someone finds a new set and wants to post it, this is a pokemon is picked and everybody trys to find new sets for it. i see the difference.
and i know its not "needed" it would just be interesting.

Have a whole thread of regulars judging and discussing movesets or have one person who I have never heard of judge movesets? Just leave it at that thread

ok just to make that clear this thread is NOT meant to compeate with that thread.
but you have found the weakest point of my idea, i am probably not the best person to judge movesets, however i am good enough for now. I will replace myself once this gets off the ground. also i will not be the only one rateing the sets, i will just do the judgeing and only part of that.
