Let's jump straight into the pocket monster battle ground...

cooler than you sent out Gastly (lvl 5 Gastly ?).
Dixie Normas sent out Koffing (lvl 5 Koffing ?).

And so I begin with...Smogon! If this battle was decided on cool points, this would be a first round knockout. Koffing is just the coolest pokemon around and I'm running an Anti-Lead set (or anti-Bronzor lead for those unfamiliar with Little Cup) with Taunt, Flamethower, Sludge Bomb and my ace in the pack, Sunny Day, which turns Tangela and Magby into nightmares.

Fearful of a boosted Shadow Ball, I switch out and swing the tie into my favour.

Dixie Normas switched in Munchlax (lvl 5 Munchlax ?).

Gastly used Thunderbolt.
Munchlax lost 23% of its health.

He's a big fat piece of crap, but by God this thing can take special hits. An all together surprising choice of move however, I am greeted by a bolt of lightning rather than a Shadow Ball. Still, I am on the front foot in the situation.

Munchlax used Pursuit.
It's super effective!
Gastly lost 126% of its health.
cooler than you's Gastly fainted.

And that is why. I pursuit it, and OHKO the fleeing bastard. So far so good.

6-5 Me.

So what next for my opponent I wonder and I soon find out.

cooler than you switched in Gible (lvl 5 Gible ?).

Dixie Normas switched in Koffing (lvl 5 Koffing ?).
Gible used Outrage.
Gible went on a rampage!
Koffing lost 100% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Koffing fainted.

And so Gible, Garchomp's younger brother comes out to party, and it appears that it is equally as annoying. If it is Choice'd as I suspect surely he wouldn't go for the Outrage as yet, but the safer Earthquake? Surely? Oh fuck. Koffing eats a full-powered Outrage instead of serenely floating the Earthquake as I'd imagine.

Ping Pong kills and it is 5-5.

Dixie Normas switched in Shieldon (lvl 5 Shieldon ?).

Gible used Outrage.
It's not very effective...
Shieldon lost 42% of its health.

Shieldon used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

So I decide to bring out my dragon resist and *designated Dratini counter*, Bastidon is a useless piece of crap in OU but its previous form has some good uses. At this point, I am fairly certain that it is Choice Banded, nothing does THAT to my koffing with out steroids of some sort, so I decide to set up flaunting my huge defences like Pamela Anderson flaunts her huge...

With Oran Berry, the 42% damage does not worry me too much.

Gible used Outrage.
It's not very effective...

Shieldon lost 42% of its health.
Shieldon'sOran Berry restored health!
Shieldon restored 53% of its health.

Shieldon used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Gible lost 177% of its health.
cooler than you's Gible fainted.

As a bonus, it was locked into Outrage for another turn, and I take advantage of this to Ice Beam my opponent and it KOs with ease. Don't you wish Garchomp could be OHKOed by 42 base Special Attack?

5-4 to me.

cooler than you switched in Diglett (lvl 5 Diglett ?).
Pointed stones dug into Diglett.
Diglett lost 6% of its health.

Dixie Normas: motherfucker

Diglett used Earthquake.
It's super effective!
Shieldon lost 216% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Shieldon fainted.

Oh fuck. Diglett, the last pokemon Shieldon wants to meet, is sent in and I don't need to tell you the rest.

4-4 and still ping pong pokemon

Dixie Normas switched in Gastly (lvl 5 Gastly ?).

cooler than you switched in Bronzor (lvl 5 Bronzor).
Pointed stones dug into Bronzor.
Bronzor lost 4% of its health.

Gastly used Energy Ball.
It's not very effective...
Bronzor lost 16% of its health.

And so I switch in Gastly, a risky move seeing that in Little Cup there are a number of Sashed Digletts that parade as Choice Scarfers before Sucker Punching you between the eyes. I use Energy Ball, on my choice scarfed hovering mass of gas, not wanting to give any normal types a free move with my two main physical checks gone. And I am met by Bronzor, possibly the most used pokemon in LC who takes laughable damage from my attack.

Dixie Normas switched in Magby (lvl 5 Magby ?).

Bronzor used Light Screen.
A barrier was formed!

---

Thus, I switch to my Magby, in anticipation of Gyro Ball. I am relieved when he uses Light Screen as I am running a physical set on Magby.

Dixie Normas: hammer time

And indeed it was soon to be.

Magby used Substitute.
Magby lost 25% of its health.
Magby made a substitute!

Bronzor used Stealth Rock.

Perhaps he was expecting the customary special-based mixed Magby and got cocky. Either way, I sub and now have the upper hand.

Magby used Fire Punch.
It's super effective!
Bronzor lost 84% of its health.
cooler than you's Bronzor fainted.
Bronzor'sOran Berry restored health!

Take that ya bastard, and with the OHKO, my sub is intact and as a certain 90s rapper would say, You Can't Touch This.

4-3 to me

cooler than you switched in Diglett (lvl 5 Diglett ?).
Pointed stones dug into Diglett.
Diglett lost 6% of its health
.
Magby is tightening its focus!
Diglett used Earthquake.
It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Magby!
Magby's substitute faded!

Magby used Focus Punch.
Diglett lost 129% of its health.
cooler than you's Diglett fainted.

Out comes Diglett to play and he's sent to the grave or that mountain place in RSE where random Duskulls pester you every damn second. A well-thought out punch is delivered to the phallic-shaped pest.

4-2 to me.

cooler than you: dang

And dang, indeed, the Little Cup pendulum had swung in my favour, but it was soon to swing back into his.

cooler than you switched in Abra (lvl 5 Abra ?).
Pointed stones dug into Abra.
Abra lost 11% of its health.
Dixie Normas: cant touch this
Abra used Psychic.
A critical hit!
Magby lost 270% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Magby fainted.

A speed tie, it appeared, provided he wasn't using Choice Scarf. Nevertheless, I am not in the business of letting my fat teddy bear take potential Choice Specs Psychics from that fiend from 105 base Special Attack. And so I take a chance and lose Magby, with a CH to boot.

3-2 to me, my lead is reduced.

Dixie Normas switched in Munchlax (lvl 5 Munchlax ?).
Pointed stones dug into Munchlax.
Munchlax lost 10% of its health.

Abra used Psychic.
Munchlax lost 57% of its health.
Munchlax'sOran Berry restored health!
Munchlax restored 33% of its health.

Munchlax used Pursuit.
It's super effective!
Abra lost 79% of its health.
Abra's light screen wore off!

And so Yogi Bear comes out again hoping to terrorise another dark weak pokemon. Does anyone remember in Starfox/Lylat Wars when Andross says something like, "You'll die, just like your father!", except you don't and kick his ass. Well a similar thing happened here, I predicted a switch and chose to Pursuit expecting to kill the fleeing Abra like I did Gastly. Except it didn't switch and so it didn't KO. And Stealth Rock damage and that pesky Gastly's Thunderbolt means that I am in death range from another Psychic despite the Oran Berry.

Abra used Psychic.
Munchlax lost 50% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Munchlax fainted.

And that was that, and the scores were level.

2-2.

And so at this point, with two pokemon left, I have two choices; Gastly or Tangela aka the holder of the worst special defence ever award. So it doesn't take a genius to work out what happened, and my Choice Scarf Gastly came into play.

Dixie Normas switched in Gastly (lvl 5 Gastly ?).
Pointed stones dug into Gastly.
Gastly lost 11% of its health.
cooler than you: this is close
Gastly used Sludge Bomb.
Abra lost 89% of its health.
cooler than you's Abra fainted.

Message from Gastly to Abra: Screw You. I chose Sludge Bomb here since with only one pokemon left to come, its higher base power may have come in handy for wrapping the match up. Victory was in sight.

2-1 to me.

It was down to his last pokemon and it was...*drum roll*

cooler than you switched in Dratini (lvl 5 Dratini ?).

At this point I was thinking that perhaps I may yet make use of my Tangela and its 105 base defence. Presumably, he would gamble on surviving Sludge Bomb and Dragon Dance for the best chance of beating my unknown last pokemon. Or maybe he would Outrage, but it seemed unlikely that he would do so, for fear of my last pokemon.

And so what did he do?

Dixie Normas switched in Tangela (lvl 5 Tangela ?).
Pointed stones dug into Tangela.
Tangela lost 9% of its health.

Dratini used Draco Meteor.
Tangela lost 65% of its health.
Dratini's special attack was harshly lowered.
Dratini's leftovers restored its health a little!
Dratini restored 5% of its health.

He said hi to my Tangela with a nice Draco Meteor and now I am in trouble with an Oran Berry forgone for Life Orb on a Sunny Day sweeper set.

Dixie Normas: wot

Precisely, what? Damn Mixtini!

cooler than you: lol u won

Dratini used Outrage.
Dratini went on a rampage!
Tangela lost 57% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Tangela fainted.
Dratini's leftovers restored its health a little!
Dratini restored 5% of its health.

A bit of mind games precede before he KOs me with a nifty Outrage.

1-1.

And so it comes down to the wire. My Choice Scarfed Gastly must OHKO with Sludge Bomb otherwise I lose. Simple As. Dratini's leftovers mean it is at 100% of its life, replenishing the HP lost through SR. Can Gastly do it?

Gastly used Sludge Bomb.
Dratini lost 95% of its health.

Dratini used Outrage.
Gastly lost 137% of its health.
Dixie Normas's Gastly fainted.
cooler than you wins!

Oh for the love of...

I fail to KO the mythical snake, doing 95% damage, which in Little Cup means the bastard survived with 1 HP. Just ONE hit point from winning. And that was that, Dratini was more clinical, safely OHKOing with Outrage.

cooler than you wins!
cooler than you: gg
Dixie Normas: gg

Thanks to:
~ Cooler Than You for giving a good game that demonstrates the fast-paced nature of Little Cup
~ Magby for beating down Diglett and Bronzor
~ Koffing for being so damn cool

Annoyances:
~ Dratini surviving with just 1 HP
~ Not choosing Return over Pursuit vs Abra
~ Getting Koffing killed unnecessarily

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed, comments are appreciated. If Little Cup interests you, check out the Little Cup Metagame Development thread for more info.

Great Warstory!

Little Cup was not only interesting but your comments helped paint a picture of what the metagame is all about. I'd love to see more of these coming up soon. Even though the battle itself was very back-and-forth in killing and revenge-killing, it was made better by your comments which were equal parts humour and insight.

Good Job and GG. Props for Warstorying a Battle you lost.

I never played little cup, but it really sounds interesting. I might try it sometime. This is a great warstory by the way. I don't know anything about the little cuo metagame, but it simply looks great.

thanks for the positive feedback guys, it's not hard to get into LC at all, and you can easily find a battle on Doug's CAP server.

This and the warstory by Tent are great insights on just what the Little Cup Metagame is like. Great job!

This was actually suprisingly enteraining. I always kind of had that "OU-lite" mentality about little cup, but seeing Shieldon and Magby out there was pretty cool and of course the fast paced battle was intense. It seems to me like offense dominates in this metagame.
