Hello, Smogon people. I'm semi-new here (I realize now all you reading are going "ohhh no.."), but I'm in no way new to competitive battling. I've been playing around in LC recently and stumbled upon success with Goldeen. Here's what I've been using:
[SET]
name: Swift Swim Sweeper
move1: Waterfall
move2: Megahorn
move3: Return
move4: Psybeam
nature: Adamant
ability: Swift Swim
item: Life Orb
evs: 220 Atk / 36 Def / 252 Spe
ivs: 0 HP
Why this set deserves to be on-site:
- (Slightly) higher base attack stat than Buizel.
- Megahorn OHKOes most Dratini, 2HKOes Gible & Bagon. (Prime targets for Buizel's Ice Punch - Gligar is wiped clean by a rain-boosted Waterfall)
- OHKOes Croagunk, Buizel's best counter, with Psybeam, even with an Adamant nature, 0 SpA EVs, and no SR. (slight chance not to OHKO the rare SubPunch set)
- Naturally bulkier than Buizel. (Can live Choice Scarf Gligar's Earthquake, etc. etc.)
- 0 HP IV gives an HP stat of 19, a magic Life Orb number.
- A teammate who can reliably set up Rain Dance is required for effectiveness. Some good options are Voltorb, who speed-ties for fastest in LC, and Chinchou or Mantyke, whos great resistances and bulk provide for an easy set up.
- Priority users like Croagunk can finish off Goldeen after residual damage (SR, LO recoil, etc.), but be wary of Psybeam.
- When the turns of rain run out, faster Pokemon like Elekid can easily pick off Goldeen with super-effective moves.
I'm not sure exactly how the whole QC and analyses thing is worked about, but if there's an alternative I'd rather not write the write-up for this set. Honestly I don't think I'm fit for the job and would prefer it if someone else could, because frankly, I'm not much of a writer.
Thanks for reading.
EDIT: There's not currently an analysis posted for Goldeen, so.. I'm not sure how that works out.
