Here is my first post in Quality Control! I have used this set successfully in my main Trick Room team, and it works as a wonderful Revenge Killer or Wall Breaker with the right support.

Topic Title: Dragonite Trick Room Mixed Sweeper

149.png

http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/dragonite

[SET]
name: Trick Room Mixed Sweeper (Specially Based)
move 1: Superpower
move 2: Fire Blast/Flamethrower
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Thunderbolt / Hidden Power Grass / Roost / Extremespeed
item: Life Orb
nature: Quiet
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA
ivs: 0 Spe
ivs for Hidden Power Grass: 30 Def / 30 SpA / 3 Spe

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
-Plays like traditional MixNite, but boasts full power Attack and Special Attack sets with no needed investment in Speed, making it a very fast wall breaker.
-Wide coverage; gets all elemental beams.
-Superpower is a virtual OHKO on Blissey, guaranteed with Stealth Rock Damage.
-Ice Beam 2HKO's Hippowdon.
-Currently no Trick Room set for Dragonite on-site.
-Unfortunately, suffers from Four Move-slot Syndrome, like traditional MixNite.

Additional Comments:
-Hidden Power Grass - Has a 94% chance to OHKO Swampert, surefire OHKO with Spikes/Stealth Rock Damage, but loses the ability to hit Gyarados hard.
-Roost - Helps recover damage from Stealth Rock, but loses a precious Trick Room turn.
-Extremespeed - Ensures a KO on crippled walls who outspeed Dragonite, even in Trick Room.
-Bulkier Spread: 136 HP / 116 Atk / 252 SpA - Same Attack as current MixNite set.

Teammates and Counters:
-This Dragonite works with any bulky Pokémon that can set up Trick Room, such as Porygon2, Slowbro, and Bronzong. Bronzong is notable for resisting Ice Shard and the ability to set up Stealth Rock, ensuring OHKO's on Blissey, Skarmory, and Swampert (with Hidden Power Grass). Bronzong can also set up Reflect or Light Screen to give Dragonite as much protection as possible. This works especially well with Roost to mitigate Stealth Rock and Life Orb damage.
-Scizor can take an Ice Shard from Weaville or Mamoswine and do serious damage with Life Orb powered Bullet Punch or Superpower.
-Claydol can set up Rapid Spin, Trick Room, and Stealth Rock, but shares an Ice weakness.

-Unfortunately, 4 Spe Blissey outspeeds this, even with minimal speed in Trick Room. However, an Ice Beam from Blissey will not KO Dragonite bar Critical Hit, and if Blissey somehow survives Superpower, you can hit Blissey back with an Extremespeed for the KO.
-Hippowdon outspeeds this in Trick Room, but as mentioned before, Ice Beam will always 2HKO.

my main issue with this is, there are naturally slower pokemon who make better sweepers in trick room like rhyperior for example, and i just don't see any trick room team needing to use this pokemon over many of the other slower options that also boast more power (enough to ohko more stuff and fully take advantage of tr)

this set doesn't look bad and im sure it works, but it just seems like trick room could take advantage of a lot of other things while dnite has plenty of viable options that it does all by itself.

Why aren't you using Outrage and Draco Meteor? They are exceedingly powerful and obtain perfect neutral coverage with Super Power. Dragonite is kind of "meh" without STAB moves.

Yeah its a little crazy not to use a stab if its a good stab and dragon is arguably the best stab hitting everything bar steels neutrally and dragon+fire+fighting hits every single pokemon in the game at least neutrally. I'm no one special but you could just easily mention it in AC but dragonite can do so much better so I wouldn't even do that. There isn't a need make a set for every single pokemon that can function in TR.

Outrage and Draco Meteor are both terrible, terrible liabilities for Trick Room, one because it wastes turns and guarantees your death against Steel-types, and one because it forces you to switch out afterwards.

That said, considering that both of your "good" STABs are basically useless on a Trick Room team, Dragonite's stats largely go to waste.

There's kind of an "unwritten rule" of Pokemon where anything with even a marginally low Speed stat can pick up a Trick Room set and start rolling. Pokemon such as Azumarill, Rhyperior, and Machamp perform extremely well in Trick Room, but there's a reason that they don't have a Trick Room analysis. Trick Room basically boils down to "take all the Speed off of an attacking set and stick it in HP, then use a -Spe nature". It doesn't take a special set.

Also, this is pretty much Anti-lead Nite. And if you were to use this as a TR sweeper, the thing to do would be to run Draco Meteor with a some physical moves to use after the special attack drop.

~Earthquake/Superpower
~Fire Blast
~Extremespeed/Outrage

I didnt mean you have to use those I just mean stab in general dragon claw for example. Also how is dragon a bad stab for a trick room team? I don't agree with this set but I also don't agree with saying there useless on a trick room team sure on Theorymon's Dialga TR set he uses Draco Meteor.

He never said that. He said one is bad because it locks you in and the other leaves you severely weakened.

My problem with a sweeper like Rhyperior is that Water is a terrible quad weakness to suffer when TR runs its course (and let's be honest, without Sandstream, its Special Defense fails). Also, believe me, Draco Meteor was the first move I thought of when I first made this set, but ruining its Special Attack and leaving itself Superpower (which lowers Attack) pretty much wastes the Trick Room. Outrage is also a bad idea, because it's a lure for anything that can take a STAB Dragon attack and possibly get two or more set-up turns. As for Dragon Claw, even with STAB it is weaker than Superpower, and doesn't beat Blissey or Steels.

? superpower is 120 power dragon claw is 80 power stab = Mx1.5
1.5x80=120

Simple math plus it doesn't lower your attack or defense.

I might be wrong, but he may have meant that superpower was super effective on steels and blissey

This doesn't look bad on paper, but I can't imagine a plethora of situations in which Dragonite would be performing, at an effective level, the role of a TR sweeper. NixHex, I would like to see row of consecutive logs in which you show how Dragonite can be useful when playing under these characteristics, and please don't take too long for this. Thank you.

I might be wrong, but he may have meant that superpower was super effective on steels and blissey
I had a lapse of reasoning and thought for a second that Superpower was 150 BP, but as you said, it still accounts for steels and Blissey in a way Dragon Claw cannot. Dragon might have excellent neutral coverage, but it is only Super-effective on Dragon types. Opposing Dragonite are 4x Weak to Ice, so Ice Beam hits harder than Dragon Claw would; the only Super-effective coverage you would gain is against Kingdra. Fighting has slightly more Super-effective coverage, and although the Attack drop sucks, this Dragonite carries enough coverage in its special attacks to consistently deal damage until Trick Room runs out.

One thing you can also consider is the use of Macho Brace to bring it down to 74 Speed, or 75 with HP Grass to solve its problem of outspeeding certain walls. Speaking of that, what do you guys think of HP Grass as an option for the fourth slot?

Setsuna, if I have some time later this week I'll get my TR team back into action. I've been doing tons of work developing my program for FR/LG RNG Abuse, so battling has kind of been put on the back burner. Thank you.

I suppose this can work but its more of a oo thing, my question is why can't this just have a brief little comment on it in other options, also you mentioned that it 2HKOs Hippowdon but guess what? You still lose because it "outspeeds" you and 2HKOs you with stone edge even with no investment in attack making your point moot.

How about instead of trick room, gravity, even though it loses it's own ground inmunity, it gains perfect coverage in dragon/ground, without the need of being locked on Outrage gets use of the forgotten Dragon Rush, which always hits in gravity, along with Earthquake, it can use Roost for recovery and Heal Bell to support the gravity setupers along with itself:

[SET]
name: Gravity abuser
move 1: Dragon Rush
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Roost
move 4: Heal Bell
item: Life Orb
nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe

With a little paralysis support from it's gravity team mates (which isn't that hard to get with Jirachi's Thunder for example) it can use this bulkier spread, but if you're missing the paralysis then go for 252 Spe and 4 in HP, still the paralysis is highly recommended for para-flinch hax with Dragon Rush's 20% flinch rate.

Gravity is even *more* gimmicky, and generally sets that don't perform incredibly well in a weather/field effect, even if they gain a benefit from it, don't warrant sets. Neither Trick Room nor Gravity qualify as effects in which Dragonite performs as such a stand-out team member that it deserves a full set.

I've used a similar set. The beauty about it is that because of Dragonite's bulkiness and the inclusion of Extremespeed, it's not absolutely worthless when Trick Room is out of play. Unlike Lucario who depends on it's Speed alongside Extremespeed, Dragonite does not have this issue.

It's been 10 days since I asked for those logs. I'm giving 48 hours to the poster in order to finally resolve this -- that should be enough time to get a row of consistent logs with this Dragonite in action.

I should be able to get some logs tonight and tomorrow night. Admittedly I've been procrastinating on this while trying to fine tune another team that utilizes that Scarf Magneton also listed in QC.

I don't question the effectiveness of this set, however, I question the need to have this on-site. I don't want to open a can of worms where everybody will start posting every Pokemon with decent stats in both offenses as a mixed Trick Room sweeper. Since that is such a niche type of team, I am going to say no to this. However, I will approve of a paragraph to be written about the possibility of using Dragonite in Trick Room for OC.

If dragonite is going to be mixed, I don't see why it can't run draco meteor like TR Dialga. What about dragon pulse on the set though?

Well, to my disappointment, I admittedly have had some pretty mediocre experiences with this over the past few nights -__-. The amount of time I spend fighting against Swampert and Hippowdon has convinced me that Trick Room requires much, much slower mixed tanks to keep up with the slowies showing up everywhere. I can usually get a few kills in with Rampardos or Rhyperior, but this thing is too fast to perform effectively in Trick Room. These are the best ones, but they are cherrypicked, not consecutive.
