Team Nasty Kiss [OU RMT]

Team Nasty Kiss

Intro
Hello Smogon. I recently joined this site mainly for the RMT feature. I have browsed across many RMTs on this site, and they have been very helpful in helping me to understand what threats are present in the metagame and how to properly deal with them. I started the competitive battling scene back in February of this year, and I have developed quite a taste for it.

Now let’s get to the team. It is called Team Nasty Kiss for two reasons. 1) I thought that title would get your attention. 2) My objective is to sweep with a nasty plot togekiss. He is an effective but uncommon sweeper, so most teams will not be adequately prepared for it. As long as I can deal with Jolteon, Zapdos, and Rotom-A, Togekiss will either sweep the team or KO about 3-5 members.

The Team

Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Flash Fire
4 HP/252 SPA/252 SPE
Timid
Fire Blast
Earth Power
Roar/Explosion
Stealth Rock

Stealth Rock is critical to this team, especially if Togekiss is facing a Jolteon. It keeps the opposing team from switching in too much, and aids my two choiced pokemon in getting necessary OHKOs. Fire Blast is a mandatory STAB and is a thing to be feared when coming from Heatran. If another Heatran steals a flash fire boost from me, then I stay in and use earth power. The opposing Heatran will do the same, but my Shuca Berry will save me while my opponent dies. The Fire Blast – Earth Power combo gets great coverage with Dragonite being the only pokemon that I can think of who resists both. Roar is there to deal with Ninjask leads who can otherwise baton pass a crap load of boosts and destroy my team. I might use Explosion to kill off Blissey, but Heracross and Togekiss can deal with her. Explosion can also OHKO those unholy Machamp leads that are pretty common these days. So tell me what you think is better for the team.

Several things that I really like about Heatran are that he is very reliable at setting up those rocks, he is powerful and has decent speed, his resistances and natural bulk allow him to be used later in the match should I allow him to live that long (I usually damage things until he dies before revealing my next pokemon).

Lanturn.jpg_thumb.jpg

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Volt Absorb
40 HP/216 DEF/252 SP DEF
Calm
Confuse Ray
Thunder Wave
Surf
Thunderbolt

The main reason I added Lanturn was to take any electric attacks aimed at Togekiss, but I quickly discovered that he is a valuable team supporter as well. Togekiss has a not-so-hot base 80 speed stat with a neutral speed nature and limited EV investment. Thunder Wave support allows him to OHKO many pokemon without taking any damage, those who are 2 or 3HKO’d are likely to be abused by Serene Grace. The confusion that Lanturn induces will A) Make the enemy loose a turn or two and damage themselves instead of me B) Switch to something else which will rack up stealth rock damage, thus making OHKOs easier to obtain C) Nothing because I sometimes have bad luck. Surf and Thunderbolt are for STAB. Ice Beam may get better coverage along side T-Bolt, but Lanturn is my only water attacker, and Porygon-Z already uses the Bolt-Beam combo. This pokemon will often attract ground types to take the T-Wave, but they are still vulnerable to Confuse Ray and Surf. Unfortunately, Lanturn’s only recovery option is Leftovers, so he cannot take repeated hits, especially SE ones.

Porygon-Z @ Choice Scarf
Adaptability
4 HP/252 SPA/252 SPE
Timid
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Tri Attack
Hidden Power [Fire]

Porygon-Z makes up the first half of my choice scarfing duo. His job is to get in KO something with a SE attack, either continue the onslaught or get out. The criteria for my choice scarfed pokemon are these:
- Must have a decent speed stat (base 80 or higher)
- Must have a powerful STAB attack
- Must have a move pool that can give me great typing coverage
- Must have a high attack/special attack stat (base 125 or higher since I go with a + speed nature)
I use the choice scarf pokemon to quickly deal with stat boosters such as SD Lucario, DD
Gyarados, DD Dragonite, NP Azelf, Curse Lax and anything that might threaten Togekiss as he sweeps such as Tyranitar, Zapdos, Blissey, Rotom-A, and Jolteon.
Porygon-Z’s powerful Tri Attack is something to be feared by most pokemon
excluding ghosts, steels, rocks, Blissey, Snorlax, and Tentacruel. The bolt-beam combo covers almost every pokemon in the game. This set would be nearly perfect if he could learn Fire Blast to take care of the bulkier steels such as Jirachi and Metagross. Thunderbolt can knock out Gyarados (bulkier sets after Stealth Rock damage), Skarmory, bulky waters, and more. Ice beam takes care of ¾ of the remaining dragons in standard play as well as ground and grass types. Porygon-Z’s bad defenses and lack of any sort of resistance makes it hard for him to switch in sometimes, but he still gets the job done and done well.

Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Guts
4 HP/252 ATK/ 252 SPE
Jolly
Close Combat
Stone Edge
Earthquake
Night Slash

Why isn’t this guy used more? He’s powerful, has a good move pool, 2 insanely powerful STABs, can abuse Guts, and he’s not that slow. Oh well, not my problem.
The reason I chose Heracross was that I needed a powerful pokemon who had a good move pool and a STAB Close Combat. Infernape has an unfortunate ground weakness that is not welcome on my team, although his STAB Flare Blitz would be greatly appreciated. Hera has not disappointed me yet. His move pool allows him to KO or severly damage Zapdos, Rotom-A, Gyarados (only if someone else takes the Intimidate and he DDs as I switch) Dragonite, non-scarf Gengar, non-scarf Starmie, Magnezone, Jirachi, Metagross, Snorlax, Blissey, Tyranitar, Aerodactyl, Azelf, and others, but I don’t need to list them all. I know what you’re thinking. “Dude, why are you NOT using Megahorn?! It’s like, an uber powerful STAB and is a staple on any Heracross set.” Well I tested it, but I never found many situations that really really needed Megarhorn (KOing Celebi is the only thing I can think of). Earthquake helps me to deal with steel pokemon since HP Fire isn’t good enough and Heatran likes to die early in the game. If you think I am stupid and can give me a good reason why I should use Megahorn, then please tell me.

. . . Wow! This is a lot of work, but I cannot quit now. On to the rest of the team.

Uxie.png

Uxie @ Light Clay
Levitate
252 HP/200 DEF/56 SP DEF
Sassy
Light Screen
Reflect
U-Turn
Memento

When using Nasty Plot Togekiss, dual screens are a must. It allows him to set up and sweep while shrugging off super effective attacks as if they are nothing but annoying mosquitoes.
Uxie has amazing base 130 DEF and SP DEF as well as useable base 75 HP. He can easily set up both screens and then A) U-Turn out to a sweeper if I’m not ready to send in Togekiss or if Uxie is healthy enough to set up screens again later on. B) Use Memento to force a switch that will let Togekiss set up a free Nasty Plot. I chose a – Speed nature and 0 speed IVs so that Uxie’s amazing defenses can take an the attack before U-Turning to the desired pokemon. The Fighting resistance and Ground immunity help as well.

Togekiss_by_Kureculari.png

Togekiss @ Lum Berry
Serene Grace
252 HP/152 SPA/104 SPE
Modest
Air Slash
Aura Sphere
Roost
Nasty Plot

This is the guy I’ve been talking about all throughout the RMT. He is most likely my favorite sweeper. He’s powerful, bulky, and uncommon, so many teams are unprepared for his assault.
Air Slash is a good STAB move and gets great coverage along side Aura Sphere. Roost is to recover health, and Nasty Plot is there to double my special attack. Maximum bulk is needed in the HP department so that Kiss can tank some hits and retaliate with a hot plate of death. I cannot figure out what I am outspeeding with a speed stat of 222, so please tell me what those 104 speed EVs I got from the Smogon set are for. I most likely will not change his EV spread though. The pokemon who give this set trouble are Rotom-A, Zapdos, Tyranitar, Jolteon, and Blissey. Blissey can actually be 2HKOd by Togekiss… But I need to set up three nasty plots, air slash and hope for the hax, then aura sphere for the KO. Tyranitar can be killed by aura sphere, but his STAB SE Stone Edge will KO Togekiss if I am not behind a reflect. Also his Sand Storm wears down my team. Zapdos cannot be taken care of by Togekiss, however, Porygon and Heracross can. Jolteon can be OHKOd after stealth rock damage, but his Thunderbolt will be a 3HKO if I am behind a Light Screen. Rotom-A is the worst nightmare for this set. Hopefully he uses will-o-wisp while I switch to Heracross to KO with night slash. Bulky Gyara with Stone edge can be a problem, but I’m not worried about him.
With the exception of those listed pokes, Togekiss will just run through everyone. No body is safe from the wrath of that bird-like thing.

Here’s what I think of my team:
Positive
Flexible – Togekiss and my Scarf duo can cause serious damage either mid game or late game. Its really up to me when I wanna set up a sweep.
Somewhat Unexpected – some people are surprised by the scarf duo and others are not prepared for togekiss. Also, no one likes parafusion from Lanturn.
4 immunities to toxic spikes, 1 doesn’t mind it too much, the other abuses it with guts
Powerful
Good Type Coverage

Negative:
Frequent switches wear down my team and I have no spot for rapid spin. Just something I have to push through
Choice Scarfers can be easily out predicted
Rain Dance teams are a pain
Sand Storm takes its toll on my pokemon
Not much stall breaking
No rock resistance

Thank You for reading this RMT. Please feel free to offer help because I am not good at foreseeing what kind of threats can tear my teams apart. I am looking forward to reading any advice that would make my team more effective.

Hey, this is a really solid team for your first one. I like the use of not very much used OU Pokemon.

The only problem I really see is Togekiss not having enough coverage in Air Slash / Aura Sphere. this is remedied a lot considering you have two Choice Scarfers, but it may be a problem because Flying types such as Gyarados and Gliscor resist this. Gyarados can set up on you, but since almost every Gyarados is Adamant, Your Porygon-Z can handle it via Thunderbolt. Both of them are not really threats within themselves, but they can Roar / Toxic you, Toxic isn't very bad considering Lum Berry, or just switch you out. Togekiss has a Steath Rock weakness, and that severly hampers it's ability to Sweep. This is somewhat remedied through Screens / Roost, but can be bad sometimes. I'm using this team right now, and its going 5-0. very nice. the Synergy with this team is great, as Snorlax / Blissey / Rotom-A is handled via Hera's Close Combat / Nigh Slash, and every other threat is handled via BoltBeam.

Honestly what I did is chang Uxie to th lead spot and giving it Stealth Rock in place of Memento, as this opens up a free spot on your team while still (pretty much) letting Uxie do the same job it has been doing. In Heatran's place I am using Tyranitar, the BaitTar set, as it allows you to take out many common counters to Togekiss and Tyranitar, while providing you with another Blissey answer. Now the only problem I see that Tyranitar gives is it's ability, Sand Stream. It boost's up it's SpD but takes it's toll on everything else. This gives you A Rock Resistance which your team lacks also, but gives you a weakness to Priority moves. It can be good though, becuase if 'Nape comes in to kill you with Mach Punch, you can switch to 'Kiss and get a free boost. (In a real match though, Infernape would never switch in on Tyranitar, because they fear EQ). Tyranitar takes out many common threats to this team and 'Kiss and gives some nice Resistances and in some cases, Weaknesses.

I really think this is a very solid team that uses Pokemon that are not very often seen in OU which often suprises people and makes them panic. I think you use this to your advantage in many ways. the Synergy is also nice, with the two Scarfers taking out almost every threat to 'Kiss. Good team and good luck!

If you really want to be a sadistic bastard, use attract over Tbolt and make lanturn a female, with parafusion and attract up, your opponent can choose to switch and get SR damage, or slowly die without hitting you. ( it's like a 5% chance to attack.)

Just a small note, Rock does not resist Rock.

thanks for the advice you guys. I never would have thought about leading with uxie. I'll give it a shot. It's true that tyranitar is a fearsome attacker and he's one of my favorite pokemon, but I'm afraid of sandstorm damage. I'll have to test him later on tonight or tomorrow. Attract on Lanturn sounds kinda gimmicky since I need to be the opposite gender for it to work, but it would definitely force some switches, rack up some SR damage, and maybe reveal more of my opponents team. I might test it, but I think lanturns current set is better. Does anyone have any other suggestions, especially on physical attackers?

UPDATE: A thunderstorm knocked out the Internet at home so I won't be able to test the suggested changes for another two days at the most. Please feel free to continue rating my team.
