Smogon's Forum Invitational - Information and Registration

Welcome to Smogon's Forum Invitational tournament! Smogon is opening the doors to other sites by sponsoring an invite-only tournament for the biggest Pokemon battling communities. This has been a highly anticipated event that has slowly garnered support over the years. Now the biggest sites will get what they have been hoping for -- the opportunity to come together and battle against all the best known competitive Pokemon sites!

Introduction

This tournament will be DPP OU. Each of the eight website that has been invited to compete will have a representative. The representatives will be in charge of appointing a team captain and coming up with a system for selecting a roster. Rosters will consist of eight (8) players and two (2) substitutes. Each round sites will face off against another site in a single elimination style. In the event of a tie, the team captain will select who will play the tiebreaker. The representatives from each site are responsible for posting the necessary threads on their forums. Each participating forum may have their own thread dedicated to this tournament, but all results are to be officially posted on Smogon for the sake of organization. It is wise to save the logs in case of a discrepancy.

Specific Rules

• In order to be elligible to join a site's roster, you must have a join date of at least 4 months prior to the date of this post in addition to at least 40 posts. You cannot be banned.
• You are only allowed to apply to join one site's team. If it is discovered that you applied to more than one site's team you will be unable to participate. Choose the site you wish to join wisely!
• Substitutes may replace anyone throughout the tournament. Teams will be allowed to replace the substitute with the starting player later in the tournament. They are not permanent.
• Battles should be conducted on Pokemon Online. Shoddy Battle is an acceptable alternative if both players agree to use it.
• Be a good sport. This is meant to be a fun and competitive experience. Cheer on your site and act graciously in victory or defeat.

Standard Rules and Clauses

• Species Clause: A player cannot have two of the same pokémon on their team. For example, a player cannot have two Koffing on his or her team.
• Sleep Clause: A player cannot put two or more different opposing Pokémon to sleep using attacks that induce sleep to opposing pokémon.
• Evasion Clause: A player cannot increase their Pokémon's evasion stat with a move that specifically increases evasion. Items or indirect boosts do not break this clause.
• OHKO Clause: Players cannot use Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, or Fissure in any of their Pokémon's movesets.
• Battle Timeout: If a player exhausts the timer, he/she loses.
• Uber Clause: Pokemon that are in the Ubers Tier are not allowed to be used. The tier list can be found here.

Registration

This section only concerns those of you interested in joining Smogon's roster. Other sites will have different methods for selecting their roster. Since Smogon is so big, it would be difficult to give everyone a tryout battle or hold a tournament to decide who will play. The roster will be decided the Smogon Frontier way: Post a résumé of your tournament and ladder achievements. Applications will be reviewed by Earthworm and I, who will act as Co-Captains of the Smogon team. Accepted applications will receive a PM prior to the posting of the first round.

Do not post here if you are intending to sign up for another site's roster.

in for Smogon; some tournament achievements I guess are going 6-1 in SPL, I played in WCoP I think I went 1-2(mence ban hurt me bad), I got to Round 5 of Good OU tournament if that counts, and I maintained myself in the top 5 for like a month on Smogon's ladder. I'm relatively new tournament-wise, but I'm up for this and would like to represent Smogon!

stuff ive done include winnin an ou smogon tour, goin 4-3 in superstars, gettin to the finals of the good ou tour (if that counts i guess) and uh 2-0 currently in OU in smogon tour top 16. not that much i guess but not really expecting to get picked anyway so i guess i dont lose anything by trying.

I'm considering TU a subdivision of Marriland. Stone_Cold said it would give them a bigger userbase to select from.

On the subject of CAL, Blecko and I have talked. We asked if CAL's name could be slashed in to the Marr/TU team for the sake of sentimentality, since most of the members we're looking at for the Marr/TU team are CAL regulars as well. Blecko was interested in CAL being a team, but we both talked and feel like it's for the best for both of us if it's not. Marr/TU and CAL would both wind up fielding teams half-full. That's not what either of us want.

When you see Marr/TU take the gold (or silver, or bronze, or dummy prize), then just remember that CAL was there too. That's how I think of it.

Also, Apologies is right, I am totally not skilled enough to make the team on CAL or Marr for this tourney. I'm just helping to put it together.

CAL and TU can be a part of Marriland then.

Question. If the format changes for some reason. Can we post grounds for the intentional breaking of rule two in light of said hypothetical changes provided all parties are notified before any breaking of the rule takes place?

And may i ask why DarkNoobcario is the captain and not for example me?
I mean he could be my little brother (its true!) how can i evolve any respect for such a person. Its just impossibile. Not to mention i actually have balls.

To solve this whole drama-drama here:
Whoever started it should just try and find 4/8 other Forums/Teams so we get a number which can be approved. If this happens he will fo' shu' get his own forums team. This may be more productive instead of just critizising.

El Blecko seemed content to just join the Marriland team. Maybe you should get on the same page as him before you complain.

As for registration, this thread is only for Smogon's registration. Look on the forums of the site you want to join for their registration. They will all be up within a day.
