Klātu - Mutual

Listening / free download link: http://klatu.bandcamp.com/album/mutual

Felt like I needed to make a separate post about this because this hasn't been getting enough attention (I'm the only person to have this album rated on RYM as of typing this). This album came out back in June but I'm just hearing about it now. It's an electronic album, but since I'm not exactly well versed in electronic sub genres, I'll try to explain how it makes me feel instead of trying to put a genre tag on it. Mutual reminds me strongly of Burial, and though it isn't dubstep (though I did feel a bit of dubstep influence on a few tracks) I get the same kind of feeling from it as when I listen to Burial; I feel like I'm walking through the streets of a big city at midnight. Perhaps a tad less ethereal than Burial, but no less haunting.

Banned deucer.
three notable albums from this year:

Gardens & Villa - Gardens & Villa

this is their debut album, good stuff. if you've ever been with me on outloud or mumuplayer you'd know this album, i've spammed a lot of tracks from it.

WU LYF - Go Tell Fire to the Mountain

WU LYF's first full length album. noise rock with post-rock elements over discordant vocals. "heavy pop" as the band calls it. not to everyone's taste, but give it a listen anyway

Thee Oh Sees - Carrion Crawler/The Dream

actually 2 EPs rolled into one studio album. noisy garage rock/post-punk. worth a listen

ASAP Rocky is one of the more unique rappers to come out this year. I've been feeling Peso, Purple Swag, and Get Lit. Got a laid back style like Wiz but just seems less fake.

Streetlight Manifesto should release some original material, damn it!

Their debut is still onme of my favourite albums ever.

Agreeing completely with this list. Especially since Ceremonials is probably the best thing even close to being considered "Pop" in a long, long time.

So then. The Weeknd's newest mixtape, Echoes of Silence, is not only his best yet, but also one of the best albums of the year. Highlights include the ballsy choice to open the album with a Michael Jackson cover, and his version of "Dirty Diana" (here retitled to "D.D.") is tastefully done in The Weeknd's unique style, as well as "Initiation", which I'm going to wager is the best song about running a train ever written.
