Arena: Dragonscale Oasis

Following the directions given by the ASB Gym League representative, you travel towards the Hoenn desert. After a few days of walking against the wind and scaling the northeastern mountains watching over that sand-blasted place, you find yourself looking at yet another arid desert - but the Gym is nowhere in sight!

Could it be that the League representative is wrong? You try calling with your phone, just to be sure, but the telecommunications company did not extend their coverage to this forsaken, secluded lands. Checking at your provisions, you estimate that you and your Pokemon can survive on your own for another 3 days before you have to journey back. Resigning yourself to another hot week, you walk into the desert. After all, the sky is clear and there's an oasis in sight so why not do a little exploration?

You find yourself regretting that decision 2 days later. Despite being seemingly close, the oasis eludes you - shimmering not so far off, tempting, taunting. What's worse, you wake up on the 3rd day to find yourself half buried and choking in sand - a sandstorm! Struggling to get yourself up, you flail about blindly, the sand stinging every inch of your exposed skin. You can't even reach your buried Pokeballs! All of a sudden, a hand grabs at your collar while a voice yells, "Don't move!" You find yourself being hoisted out of the sand and facing a heavily veiled - and robed - man. "Follow me!" You have no choice - your saviour seems to be native to the desert and any place is certainly better than where you were.

After some time, you reach the man's tent, the entrance facing the leeway of the winds. Pushing yourself inside, you are surprised to see another person present - or rather, guest. "Why, hello there! Got caught up in the storm?"

You nod, then suddenly realise that the man who helped you didn't enter behind you. "Looking for Texas, I suppose? He's the one who helped you. I think he's out again - what business he's up to outside, I don't know."

Sitting on an empty couch, you take the offered waterskin and drink gratefully. "Who is he, and why are you here?"

"Me? Oh I'm a trader. Just stopping by to procure and sell wares to a regular customer, you know. As for Texas - that man - his full name is Texas 'Cloverleaf', son of Ksatria. Now don't go asking me who his father is - I have no idea about that. Point is, he lives here, because apparently he does not want to leave. Again, he has his reasons, and he keeps them to himself. I can tell you why he got that middle name, though - it's a reference to the symbolic ring he wears on his left middle finger, a keepsake from his mother, whom I heard is a native of these lands as well."

"So, uhm, do you know anything about a Dragon Gym in these parts?"

The trader grinned, "Nah, I don't. Texas might, though - knows this region like the back of his hand."

You have to wait until late night before Texas returns, however, and upon hearing your question, his reply was curt. "I'll take you there at sunrise tomorrow - travelling in sandstorm at night is dangerous." And so you have no choice but to satisfy yourself with that answer. tossing and turning in the night as the winds howl incessantly outside.

The next day, the three of you set out, the trader tagging along because "I'd like to see what this Dragon Gym is like". It doesn't take much time before you arrive at the elusive oasis, where the sands glitter like the scales of dragons. Suddenly, Texas whirls upon you.

"Do you swear, upon the Almighty, that you come for the Dragon Gym?"

Caught by surprise, you stammer, "Y-y-yes."

Texas' robe is tossed behind his back at that statement, revealing the Badge he keeps pinned on his tunic.

"Then I swear upon the All-Seeing, the Almighty, the All-Forgiving, that this is the Oasis of Dragons, home to the Dragons of the Sands, and Dragon Gym to the ASB League. I am the Leader, Texas son of Ksatria, and I accept your challenge."

"Should you prove yourself worthy, this Cloverleaf Badge of the Desert is yours. However, before we start, there are things that you must know."

"This Oasis is the sacred land of my mother's tribe, and the ancient djinni guard it fiercely. Should anyone invoke their protection, they will hide the person from an intruder's view with a sandstorm fiercer than any found in Hoenn. Also, the waters here are blessed - they will not freeze easily. Now, arm yourself - by the Almighty and his Prophet, prepare to face the might of the Dragons!"

Arena Effects:
If Sandstorm is used it will remain on the field indefinitely, stacking with other arena effects
+2 BAP to all Fire moves
All Ice type moves of BAP 10 or less AFTER STAB are melted and become Water typed, retaining any secondary effects
Combo constituents are treated separately e.g. Ice Beam+Hyper Beam is Water+Normal assuming no STAB
Pokemon cannot be frozen
Natural Water source available
Natural Rocks available

My brain is kinda mushy right now, so here goes the abridged version.

On this field we will see today (and tommorow and the day after for a couple months) the battle between the Dragon Leader Texas Cloverleaf and the challenger zarator, aka the Ghost Leader.

The Gym Leader comes from a victory against Yarnus and is on a very close match against deadfox081. His team is predictable, but that doesn't mean ineffective. Au Contraire.

Pay special attention to Slasher the Haxorus. Slasher always makes a big splash on Texas's battles, dealing great damage. Also, being able to hit all zara's mons super effectively on their weakest defense (I know only Sylveon doesn't have equal defense, now shush) is a good advantage.

On the other side of the field is zarator, which comes from a failed attempt vs Engineer Pikachu (probably due to a not 100% foolproof team). Now he brought a much more reliable team. Of Fairies. If anyone is taking notes, this is the first time, Fairies enter this gym. And I believe they will prove their worth.

Pay special attention to Sune the Gardevoir. Sune is the middle pokemon between a mix of the raw power of Sylveon and the utility of Clefable. Also, Psychic+Fairy is a match made in heaven as we will soon enough haha.

I'm very disappointed to see this is the team you chose. You knew that the arena had not been altered to account for Fairies. You knew that the gen 6 Dragons that could combat Fairies were nowhere near ready. You knew that most people cannot be expected to have Pokemon fully trained in under a month, dragon fairy or otherwise. And yet you still chose to pump UC (200 didn't you say) into these Pokemon to abuse a gym that had little reasonable time to prepare for something that everyone knew hard countered the type.

This is a very underhanded way to win in my opinion, and I am very displeased by it. We will fight and you can enjoy your badge with the knowledge that you did not win it through a measure of luck and skill but rather by underhanded tactics abusing an unprepared opponent. I will not be lenient on disqualification times or rulings/combos in this match.

You bastard.

fucking fairies fuck fuck before I even have a chance to train gen 6 mons or adjust my arena to account for them that's a fucking low-blow fucking aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

oh yeah this is a fucking terrible way to win enjoy your free badge

.mad

As a sidenote to anyone watching this, at the conclusion of this battle my Gym will be closed (sorry Gerard) until such time as it is in a state to once again fight challengers through a test of skill and not "Let's hard counter the Dragons with all the Fairies!"

I'd like to point out two things.

1) I had a Gardevoir and a Clefable, fully trained, WAY before Gen VI even came out. In fact, I first trained Gardevoir for my Mysterious Cove run (back in 2011), and Clefable has been ready since March 2013 because it was one of the mons I trained for Engineer Pikachu. Yes, I did spend, let's see... 38 UC or so on Sylveon, which combined with 0 on Gardevoir (Moonblast is a pre-25 move) and 1 on Clefable (for the aforementioned Moonblast) makes 39 UC... not 200 for sure.

2) Since Gen VI came out, you had approximately 50 days which you could have employed to come up with some sort of rule against fairies. The fact Fairies hard counter most Dragons (i.e. their type interaction) has been announced way before October, as well. You had all the time to update your arena, and you didn't. So don't blame me, because last time I checked people brought Colossoil to my gym even when I was completely unprepared for it.

3) And finally, aside from Dragalge, I don't see what you exactly mean with "I didn't have time to update my mons to Gen VI". Yes, you didn't get yourself a Dragalge, but last time I checked it doesn't take more time to train a Dragalge than it takes to train a Sylveon, and if I managed to get a Sylveon ready, you could've gotten your Dragalge as well. Again, 50 days are plenty of time.

Anyway sending out Eilistraee (Clefable), with Focus Sash

You made your choice. (Also Gen 6 has been out for 22 days, Dragalge, Tyrantrum, and a clause forcing mega-evolution for Charizard are all necessary anti-Fairy measures)

Dragonite @ Expert Belt

Iron Head ~ Iron Tail ~ Iron Head

If Bide, Substitute (15) on the first Bide action, Light Screen on the second Bide action and push orders back
If Counter, Light Screen on the first instance, Substitute (15) on the first instance and push back

Gyms are a cruel world indeed. You take advantage of what you can take advantage and go from there. Kinda sad, yeah, but that is how it is. You just gotta deal with that.

Round 1!

Welcome to the almighty Dragon Gym.

wait, did we drop the almighty crap? awesome!

anyway

Welcome to the Dragon Gym, where you are always thirsty and usually so high that you see the same pokemon fighting on both sides.

But not today! Today we will see the power of the Fairies, so stay tuned!

After a heated argument, the challenger is the first to send out and Eilistraee the Clefable with Focus Sash it is! Since there is no way I can remember that name, I will just call it "jane".

The Leader counters with Tempest the Dragonite with Expert Belt, relying on a good movepool and Multiscale to pass through that pesky type disadvantage.

Jane is the first to attack, and uses a swift teleport to escape from Tempest's Iron Head. Not much to see here...

After that, Tempest managed to strike a hit with her Iron Tail, getting a nice Defense reduction in the process. Jane, however, still isn't in an offensive mood (ya hello thar multiscale) and sets up the field by paralysing the Dragonite with Thunder Wave.

Finally, now faster, Jane uses Toxic to poison Tempest and, more importantly, break her Multiscale, while the enraged Dragonite attacked once more with Iron Head.

A Simple first round for a not so simple match. Texas is ahead on the damage race, but that was mostly due to multiscale. Now that Dragonite is paralysed and unprotected, I believe we will see Jane switch gears soon enough. Still, the leader will move last, so he does have a good chance to keep the momentum in his favour.

Aw bs para :(

Iron Head ~ Iron Tail ~ Iron Head
[ONCE ONLY] If Endure, Whirlpool that action and push back
If Counter, alternate Roost and Chill for each instance of Counter being used

btw Frosty, editing in tags doesn't actually tag the person

I'll be damned...

I didn't know that. I do now. At least the DAT says priority 1. Veekun disagrees, but I guess the DAT is the DAT.

Unfortunately, that means that Disarming Voice's BAP is halved and dragonite survives, so:

Zarator orders
Texas orders

Round 5!

After a grueling first match-up, the Gym Leader manages to draw an unexpected first blood, although, I must say, that is not as huge as you would think, since it was the leader's best mon (ya hello thar multiscale) vs the challenger worst mon.

But let's see how this all pans out, k?

The Challenger sends out his second pokemon!

Sailor Moon!

erm...

I mean...

Selune the Sylveon with Fairy Tech. The first debut of the newest eevolution on a Gym Match. With a huge potential for SPLASHness.

It first used Detect to force Dragonite to Roost and after graceful evading the dragon's Iron Tail, Selune finished this matchup quickly with a Pixilate-powered Hyper Voice!

And the score is even! Who the Gym Leader will send out to keep his momentum?

Let's see.
DATA:

ACTION 1!

Sylveon used Detect! (-7en)

Dragonite used Roost! (-11en)
+20hp

ACTION 2!

Dragonite used Iron Tail! (-7en)
Hit: 95 (miss)
But it missed!

Sylveon used Hyper Voice! (-6en)
Pixilate made it Fairy-Type!
Crit: doesn't matter
Damage: (9+3+3)*1.5 = 22.5hp

Dragonite fainted!

Zara has earned the title or my luckiest opponent to date that's for sure. Also Clefable is the middle mon, Sylveon is the weakest @_@

Today we see the first and probably only appearance of my first ever Dragon and starter Pokemon.

Go, Garchomp! (@ Expert Belt)

Hyper Voice - Moonblast - Hyper Voice

If Garchomp uses Dig, replace your respective action with Quick Attack and push your actions back.
If Garchomp uses Iron Head, replace your respective action with Detect and push your actions back. Do not play this substitution twice in a row.

P.S.: Sand Attack is a physical move? Frustration or Fling are special moves? Something is messed up there Texas^^
