Description: Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokemon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokemon battling arena. In the center of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Pokeball center). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about 4.5m wide and creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is 24m wide, 33m long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it's an outdoor arena with a large water source and packed dirt. Pokemon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying Pokemon, who cannot leave the arena and cannot fly higher than 18m). This prevents Pokemon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokemon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Hi everyone! Here we have a match between the fresh newcomer MastaNVX and akela, a veteran willing to give him a battle. Masta may be new, but he seems intelligent, so I bet he'll improve quickly. Even over this course of this battle, I bet we'll see drastic improvement. On the other hand, akela very recently became a a gym leader, so he's already quite skilled, but it's very nice of him to help welcome Masta!

Team MastaNVX:

Aron [M] [Titan]
Type(s):
Steel/Rock

Steel STAB: immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible to Poison-type attacks and Poison/Toxic Status.

Rock STAB: Adds an additional level of Priority (+0 to +1, +3 to +4 etc.) on naturally occurring level-up, egg, tutor, or TM attacks that increase only defense, special defense, or prevent damage (Full list: Acid Armor, Amnesia, Barrier, Defense Curl, Detect, Quick Guard, Harden, Iron Defense, Light Screen, Protect, Reflect, Skull Bash, Stockpile, Wide Guard, Withdraw). Reduced damage from all special attacks by two (2) Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Abilities:
Sturdy / Rock Head / Heavy Metal (H)

Sturdy: (Passive) This Pokemon's body is solidly constructed, reducing the Base Attack Power from an opponents incoming attacks by one (1). The effect is amplified on OHKO Moves, which are reduced by ten (10) Base Attack Power.

Rock Head: (Passive) This Pokemon's hard body prevents it from taking recoil damage from moves such as Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, and Head Smash. This does not prevent recoil damage from Struggle.

Heavy Metal(Locked): (Passive) The Pokemon's body structure is immensely dense, doubling its actual weight.

Eevee [F] [Amelie]
Type(s):
Normal

Normal STAB: +1 BAP on attacks that match dominant arena type after 3 actions. Unable to have Thrash or Outrage disrupted by oncoming damage.

Abilities:
Run Away / Adaptability / Anticipation (H)

Run Away: (Passive) This Pokemon is quick on its feet and will evade any field traps and hazards that would harm it (Spikes, Stealth Rock, Toxic Spikes) in an arena. A Pokemon can still absorb Toxic Spikes if it has Run Away and is Poison-typed. Run Away does not allow the Pokemon to switch out of trapping moves or abilities, however it can escape other situational trapping strategies in battle.

Adaptability: (Passive) The moves that match this Pokemon's type have their Base Attack Power increased by two (2).

Anticipation(Locked): (Passive) This Pokemon is better at sensing dangerous attacks, and reduces the Base Attack Power from super-effective attacks, Self-Destruct, and Explosion by two (2).

Noibat [M] [Darko]
Type(s):
Flying/Dragon

Flying STAB: Immunity to Ground attacks and the Arena Trap Ability except under the effects of Smack Down and Gravity, even for ground-based flying Pokemon. Will always hit foes with Dig (except other Flying types) and Dive. Cannot be hit by Dive unless the attacking Pokemon has a size class greater than four (4). Unaffected by Spikes or Toxic Spikes when switching in. Able to hit Pokemon in the evasive stage of Bounce, Fly or Sky Drop with single target moves that hit Pokemon on the field regardless of position.

Dragon STAB: -1 BAP on incoming neutral attacks Dragon itself would resist (e.g. -1 BAP on Aqua Jet against Garchomp.) Unable to have Thrash or Outrage disrupted by oncoming damage.

Abilities:
Frisk / Infiltrator / Telepathy (H)

Frisk: (Passive) The Pokemon has intimate knowledge of the opponent's held item and ignores any item-based increases or decreases in damage, BAP and STAB from the opponent's item. This will not block the increase in BAP moves like Acrobatics and Knock Off that incur when an item is or isn't held. Item-Based increase in ranks (Such as from Rare Candy) are not negated by Frisk. The Pokemon will not be affected by Fling or Natural Gift.

Infiltrator: (Passive) Through a combination of speed and cunning, this Pokemon easily circumvents the effects of Light Screen, Mist, Reflect, Safeguard, and Substitute with all of its attacks.

Telepathy(Locked): (Passive) This Pokemon has a mental link with its allies in multiple battles, which allows it to avoid taking damage from allied attacks that damage each foe or the entire field like Blizzard and Earthquake. They are still affected by an opponents spread damage attacks.

Sorry for the delay folks. Hopefully we can speed things up going forward though.

Anyways, Masta chooses to lead with Aron, while akela counters with Venonat. That's a very interesting choice by akela; Even with Venonat's Hidden Power, I think this is a matchup that Aron has the advantage in. However, I think Venonat doesn't do particularly well against any of the Pokemon Masta has, so perhaps akela is just getting Venonat out of the way early.

Venonat doesn't seem to mind, as it jumps in any attacks with Hidden Power, and even manages to score a critical hit. Venonat's Hidden Power is Ground-type, so that attack sure does a lot, especially with the crit. Masta has Aron play more defensively, and so Aron whips up a Sandstorm. Sandstorm will weaken Venonat's attacks, but it will also deal a bit of damage to Venonat every action, so it's not a bad play at all.

Venonat continues the offensive, this time using Infestation. With its Tinted Lens, the attack turns into a neutral hit, but now Aron is trapped with a swarm of bugs surrounding it. In response, Aron uses Mud-Slap, which lowers Venonat's accuracy. Mud-Slap isn't a very common attack in ASB, because most Pokemon have ways around the accuracy drop, and the accuracy drop isn't permanent. In Venonat's case, I think it will be particularly ineffective because of Compoundeyes, which almost completely negates the accuracy drop. Aron might have been better off just attacking...

Once again, Venonat attacks with Hidden Power. However, the Sandstorm helps to soften the blow, and Aron is dealt significantly less damage this time. Not being crit probably helps there too. Aron, still apparently not ready to go on the offensive, lowers Venonat's Defense with Screech. Stat boosting and lowering moves are a lot less effective in ASB than they are ingame, so I really think Aron would have been better off attacking here. Still, using Screech on a3 is smart, as that way the stat drop won't decay at the end of the round.

Aron has taken quite a bit of damage this round, while Venonat looks pretty healthy. However, this could change quickly, and I wouldn't count Aron out just yet.

Oh, it looks like Aron is finally going on the offensive. Venonat, in anticipation, quickly swaps abilities with Aron using Skill Swap, exchanging its Tinted Lens for Aron's Sturdy. This probably helps a little bit, but ultimately doesn't stop Aron's Head Smash from doing an incredible amount of damage.

Venonat isn't out yet though, and retaliates with another Hidden Power. However, Aron's attacks are much stronger, and it counters with Rock Slide, which does over twice as much damage. Venonat is now incredibly low on HP, and I think another hit would knock it out.

Of course, that doesn't mean akela or Venonat are giving up. Looking to hang in there just a bit longer, Venonat uses Stun Spore, which despite the mud in its eyes still connects. In a stroke of luck for akela and Venonat, Aron is actually fully paralyzed this action. Still, ultimately the position they're in hasn't changed, and this matchup is almost definitely going to go to Aron...

akela replaces his fainted Venonat with Spheal. With how weakened Aron is, this matchup is definitely in Spheal's favor... and it gets right to showing that, using Brine to deal a huge blow. Aron goes to set up... but it looks like it is fully paralyzed again! How unlucky!

MastaNVX recalls Aron and sends out Eevee as his next Pokemon! Eevee vs. Spheal is a neutral matchup, but I think Spheal has a bit more power overall, so Spheal probably holds the advantage here.

Eevee starts out by using Fake Tears to lower Spheal's guard. If Eevee can follow this up with repeated attacks to take advantage of the stat drop, I think this could be very helpful. On the other hand, Spheal wastes no time setting up, and goes straight on the offensive with Surf. The attack doesn't do that much damage, but I think it's more than Eevee can dish out back.

Spheal then senses a powerful attack coming, and uses Stockpile to boost its defenses in anticipation. This proves to be slightly helpful, as Eevee unleashes a Hidden Power+Hidden Power combination! I actually think just using Hidden Power twice in a row would have been more effective, but sometimes combinations are just fun to use!!

Of course, now Eevee is stuck, too tired to move after exerting itself so much. This leaves it wide open for another Surf from Spheal. The damage dealt this round was about equal, so if things continue on like this Spheal would have the advantage. That said, it would also mean MastaNVX would have the advantage for the match. Let's see what each of the battlers do from here...

Action 1:
Eevee used Fake Tears!
Stat Change: -2 SpD (Spheal)
-6 energy
Spheal used Surf!
RNG Roll (Crit) [<=625 Crit]: 7789/10000 (No)
(9+3+(4.5-4.5)) = 12 damage
-6 energy

Action 2:
Spheal used Stockpile!
Other Change: Stockpile [1] (Spheal)
Stat Change: +1 Def/SpD (Spheal)
-8 energy
Eevee used Hidden Power+Hidden Power!
RNG Roll (Crit) [<=625 Crit]: 1933/10000 (No)
(13.5+(3-3))*1.5+2 = 22.25 damage
-21 energy

Action 3:
Spheal used Surf!
RNG Roll (Crit) [<=625 Crit]: 8416/10000 (No)
(9+3+(4.5-4.5)) = 12 damage
-6 energy

Order of operations:
  1. MastaNVX issues orders.
  2. akela issues orders.

This thing is tough, but you can do it Amelie!

Fake Tears > HP Fighting > Shadow Ball
If Spheal uses a P/E move, then use Wish instead ONCE.
If Spheal uses Encore, then use HP Fighting instead.

Doing a variation of what was done last round, Eevee once again uses Fake Tears to continue to lower Spheal's Special Defense.
Of course, Spheal then uses Defense Curl to prepare itself.
Err, I mean, Defense Curl boosts the wrong stat, so it seems like Spheal is getting ready to use Defense Curl's other use.
Still,I'm not sure if that strategy will pay off...

Anyways!! Next, Eevee goes back on the offensive and uses Hidden Power again. You can bet that hurt with all the Special Defense drops!
But Spheal isn't going to give up, and counters by using Ice Ball.
One Ice Ball isn't that great, even after a Defense Curl, but if Spheal can keep using it then the damage will really shoot up.
Not that I think that can happen as Eevee has Protect, although I guess we'll see if akela has something in mind.
Either way, it's kinda cool to see someone actually using these moves for once!

Regaining the lead, Eevee attacks with Shadow Ball!
Each attack from Eevee has a lot of extra damage tacked on from those stat drops, and it's putting Spheal in a bad position
Attacking back, Spheal grows the Ice Ball that it's in to deal more damage then before.
Doesn't look like its outdamaging Eevee's attacks though, so this could be bad for akela.

The round ends, and Eevee just barely is behind in HP.
However, akela has to order first next round, so the strategy he had might not work so well then.
If Eevee can continue to outdamage Spheal, then I think Masta has this match in the bag.
So, let's wait and see what happens next!

Watch out Amelie, that Spheal is going on the offensive!

HP Fighting > Shadow Ball > HP Fighting

Let's beat it at it's own game!
