Aerodactyl (Analysis)

CB set should be last. You're not 2HKOing many physical walls (you're not even 2HKOing Chansey), and the lack of power combined with frailty means that I'd rather be running a better wallbreaker in almost every situation. Also call the life orb set "Life Orb", custom names are only used in analyses if the set is commonly known throughout the community by that title, such as crocune and britscor. Nobody says terrordactyl.

After that QC APPROVED 2/3

ok then. Can i put life orb first? Just seems that it would seem weird to have a defensive set for aero first though. I'll have to switch the sets tomorrow at the earliest, since im on holiday and only have access to a phone at the mo

Also, i should probably mention on CB that a really powerful wallbreaker is a good teammate, like Heracross/Medicham

Why would you put LO first when the defensive set clearly outclasses it? Who cares if Aerodactyl is a traditionally offensive Pokemon, if the defensive set is the best set, list it first.

Aerodactyl has been, excuse the pun, soaring the skies since the beginning of Pokemon. This generation, it has found itself a new home in the Underused tier. Aerodactyl is fairly unique among Rock-type Pokemon, as it is being neither slow nor sturdy, but fast and frail. It has one of the highest base Speed stats in the tier, at 130, and a respectable attack of 105, and the physical movepool to use it.

But However, it isn't all clear skies for our flying fossil. Aerodactyl is weak to many priority attacks, and has pretty low mediocre defenses. Furthermore, although very fast, there are plenty of Pokemon that can outspeed with a Choice Scarf and OHKO it while holding a Choice Scarf.

move 2: Taunt / Substitute
move 3: Toxic / Earthquake
move 4: Roost
item: Leftovers
ability: Pressure
nature: Jolly
evs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 124 Spe

[Set Comments]

It may seem strange, but this previously offensively-inclined Pokemon now has the potential to pull off a defensive set. Unlike other walls, Aerodactyl is incredibly fast. and has a rather unique typing that offers it some interesting resistances. This set shines the most on a sandstall-team, recieving a boost to its Special Defense. and being able to Furthermore, it can counter some common threats to them, such as Swellow and NP Mismagius. Ironically, it also functions as an excellent stall-breaker, since matches than involve two stall teams can go on for a while.
make a paragraph here and stuff

Rock Slide is the main attacking move. It gains STAB, has a rather good chance to flinch the opponent using due to Aerodactyl'[apostrophe]s high speed, and has more PP and is more accurate than Stone Edge. Taunt is another crucial move on Aerodactyl, preventing. It prevents all kinds of set[space]up, and protects Aerodactyl from status attacks. Toxic and Roost allow Aerodactyl to stall out most opponents while recovering HP at the same time. Due to very high speed, Roost will often allow Aerodactyl to shed its weaknesses to Ice, Electric, and Rock-type moves for a turn. This is a double edged sword, though, as one must now beware of Ground- and Fighting-type moves. Beware of potential Earthquakes though.

[Additional Comments]

The current EVs allow Aerodactyl to outpace base 115 positive natured Pokemon like such as Raikou. The HP EVs allow Aerodactyl to switch into Stealth Rock four times without fainting, and the rest are dumped into defense to provide more physical bulk. Toxic Spikes should generally be on the battlefield when using this Aerodactyl variant, since it's designed for use on a to onto a stall-team., and This also allows it to free up a moveslot for Earthquake, allowing it to hit Poison-[hyphen] and Steel-types. If you choose not to run Toxic Spikes, a teammate that can easily remove Poison and Steel-type Pokemon is recommended.Dugtrio and Magneton are therefore good choices,. as they both also share good synergy with Aerodactyl. Substitute can be used over Taunt, allowing Aerodactyl to pull-off a SubRoost set, but the general utilty utility of Taunt tends to be superior.

There are some other options that can fit onto this set. Whirlwind is a good move that Aerodactyl has access to, allowing it to rack up entry hazard damage and prevent setup,. but Unfortunately, it has negative priority, which kind of defeats the purpose of using something as fast as Aerodactyl. Fly is another good attacking move.:[colon] it's more powerful than Rock Slide, can and can turn Aerodactyl into a mean PP-eatin'-machine, that also gains more Leftovers recovery and Toxic damage, The issue, however, is that but it takes two turns to use, which gives plenty of time to the opponent to switch in something that resists it or set up. by which time an opponent can easily switch in something that resists it, or setup. Stealth Rock can fit on this set be fitted on, but there are more viable Pokemon than Aerodactly for this job. that can use it better than Aerodactyl. This set needs all four of the primary moves to be effective.

[Set]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Stone Edge
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Aqua Tail
move 4: Fire Fang / Double Edge
ability: Pressure / Rock Head
item: Choice Band
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe

[Set Comments]

Aerodactyl'[apost]s stats (massive base Speed and good Attack) are practically begging for a Choice Band set, having a massive base Speed and good Attack. Aerodactyl also has a good physical movepool,:[colon] and moves most attacks have with relatively high base power. Stone Edge is the main STAB attack., but its infamous accuracy can be a problem though. Earthquake is the next best attack, granting Aerodactyl excellent coverage and forming the well-known EdgeQuake combo. Aqua Tail hits a lot of many bulky Ground-types for very good damage, such as Rhyperior, Donphan and Claydol. The last move is mostly filler. Fire Fang decimates hits Pokemon with a quadruple weakness to it Fire-type moves hard, such as Escavalier and Eviolite Ferroseedthorn, whereas Double Edge hits most Pokemon for some strong neutral damage. Aerodactyl isn't a wall-breaker though; its best use is against offensive teams, since it can outspeed the vast majority of Pokemon and on such teams. Because of the frailty of offensive teams, Aerodactyl can proceed to KO opponents outright with the appropriate move. , and due to them normally having low defesnes, can proceed to outright KO them with the appropriate move.

[remove space above]
[Additional Comments]

While Aerodactyl is a very fast Pokemon, there are some Pokemon that can ignore this speed. trait of Aerodactyl. Priority moves will always go first, and, unfortunately, Aerodactyl is weak to a fair few number of them, such as Bullet Punch this move is nearly nonexistent in UU, so I personally would remove the mention. Your choice, Aqua Jet and Ice Shard. Therefore, it is crucial that users of these moves be eliminated before attempting to sweep with Aerodactyl. This is not helped by Aerodactyl'[apost]s natural frailty and weakness to Stealth Rock. A Thus, a Rapid Spinner is recommended when using Choice Band Aerodactyl, since it'll be switching in and out a lot. Aerodactyl also lacks the power to break through some of the tougher physical walls, such as Slowbro, Milotic and Tangrowth. Powerful wallbreakers such as Electrivire are good teammates for Aerodactyl in this regard, since Electrivire can zap the bulky Water-types with its STAB Electric attacks, and can roast Tangrowth with Flamethrower. Another good teammate would be a is Life Orb Roserade, with the moves Leaf Storm, Sludge Bomb, Sleep Powder,[comma] and Synthesis, since it fears nothing from any of these walls and can OHKO all of them. It is worth noting that all of these walls are also crippled by Toxic Spikes. Speaking of entry hazards, Aerodactyl also enjoys Stealth Rock and Spikes on the opposing side, since they turn some 2HKOs into OHKOs.
maybe mention some 2HKOs that turn into OHKOs

[Set]
name: Life Orb
move 1: Stone Edge
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Roost
item: Life Orb
ability: Pressure
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe

[Set Comments]

While the previous set ripsped offensive teams to pieces, this set fares much better against defensive teams. Aerodactyl can prevent walls from using their non-damaging attacks, heal off the damage caused by their generally weak offenses, and hit them with the powerful EdgeQuake combo. Stone Edge is once again the main attacking move, since it gets receives STAB. Earthquake hits Pokemon that resist Stone Edge hard, mainly Steel-types. Taunt prevents walls from healing themselves, crippling Aerodactyl with status attacks, pHazing it, and in generally stopsping them from being a nuisance. Roost rounds off the set, since it makes Aerodactyl less reliant on a Rapid Spinner, alleviates the recoil from Life Orb, and prevents Aerodactyl from dying from some of the weaker attacks aimed at against it.

[Additional Comments]

Although more versatile than the Choice Band set, the boost provided by Life Orb is a little weaker, and so a greater emphasis is placed on the importance of Spikes. Walls will be worn down much easier this way, and Aerodactyl will be able to achieve more KOs. Since this set relies only on the coverage of Rock and Ground-type moves, there will be some Pokemon who resist Aerodactyl'[apost]s attacks. Some Examples are Claydol, Torterra and Flygon, all of whom can hit Aerodactyl hard. A bulky Water-type that packs Ice Beam can deal with these threats, although it must beware of Torterra'[apost]s powerful Wood Hammer.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Aerodactyl doesn't hit as hard as more powerful Pokemon such as Heracross, so in order to wall this fossilized dinosaur it, it's usually enough to send in a Pokemon with high defenses that isn't weak to its attacks. Bulky Water-types such as Slowbro fear nothing from Aerodactyl can can take it out with their STAB attacks. Pokemon like such as Steelix and Regirock take pitiful damage even from super-effective Earthquakes, and can KO Aerodactyl with STAB Steel-[hyphen] and Rock-type attacks, respectively. Aerodactyl is frail, so sending in a Scarfed Pokemon with a super-effective attack, such as Flygon or Heracross, can also do the trick. Finally, Aerodactyl is weak to priority, so powerful Pokemon like such as Azumarill and Mamoswine can easily pick it off.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Anywhere you see Stone Edge, Rock Slide is an option. Aerodactyl likes the higher PP and the chance to flinch. However, it's quite weak for a STAB attack. Ice fang can be used to hit Pokemon that resist the EdgeQuake combo such as like Flygon and Torterra for 4x damage that resist EdgeQuake on the CB set, but it is situational, and Flygon is hit hard by Aqua Tail or Double-Edge anyway. Pursuit is an option to kill off fleeing Ghost-[hyphen and space] or Psychic-types with low defense, and Crunch is slightly more powerful than Stone Edge against Pokemon weak to the dark, looming jaws it. The A Stealth Rock suicide lead from the fourth generation also comes to mind. However, in this metagame where leads essentially don't exist, the suicide lead finds a hard time to shine. The opponent can simply start off with a Pokemon that beats Aerodactyl, such as Hitmontop.

Aerodactyl also finally got gets a boosting move with in Hone Claws. It also helps with the less than stellar accuracy of Aqua Tail and Stone Edge. However, it's very easily revenge-killed, and +1 attacks Attack usually isn't enough to sweep with. A Curse set with White Herb can work in a sandstorm, but it tends to be a one time deal. It's forced out quite easily, and then you're left with a weaker, itemless Pokemon. A +1 in three stats (+1 Attack and Defense from Curse, +1 Special Defense from sandstorm) is nice though.

[DREAM WORLD]
You don't need a DW section because it is already released. Instead, mention Unnerve in Other Options.

Aerodactyl'[apost]s Dream World ability, Unnerve, is already released. Better yet, it's legal with Stealth Rock. However, it means that you can't use Aqua Tail. Unnerve has little use at the moment though, since pinch Berries and Custap Berry aren't released yet. It does block the rare resistance Berries though. Pressure is normally the superior choice on every set (except for the ones that use Double Edge, in which case Rock Head should obviously be used).

And so... you just switch Aerodactyl out and come back in later? It's not like Hitmontop can magically set up entry hazards of its own. Just because leads "don't exist" anymore doesn't mean that Aerodactyl is not a fantastic entry hazard layer. I mean, what can't Aerodactyl do with Stealth Rock / Rock Slide / Earthquake / Taunt ? It can jam stall with Taunt for a bit, set up hazards and maybe even revenge a thing or two. It's still a perfectly viable set.

Spinners are extremely common at the moment, and having one pokemon dedicated only for stealth rock is a liability. I've tested it, and it just does't pull its weight on a team. The QC guys also didn't think it was neccessary

V0x's check is good.

One thing though, change [Set Comments] and [Additional Comments] to [SET COMMENTS] and [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS], and change [CHECKS AND COUNTERS] and [OTHER OPTIONS] to [Checks and Counters] and [Other Options]. Also, Other Options goes before Checks and Counters, not after. Remove the Dreamworld section.

Oh, and also, capitalize [SET].

Really small nitpick, but shouldn't the 4 EVs on the Choice Band and LO set be moved into Defense instead? With 4 HP EVs it gives him 302 HP, a Pokemon that's weak to SR and using LO should have an uneven HP stat.

Also, on the defensive set, you have the EVs mixed up.

You need 136 Speed EVs to outspeed +base 115s.

So, it should be 248 / 124 Def / 136 Spe

Also, I don't understand that EV spread anyways.
What's the point of outspeeding base 115s when you can't OHKO any of them anyways? Sure, you can revenge low health NP Azelf/CM Raikou or Taunt Azelf from using SR, but I'm pretty sure Taunt is pretty obvious coming from Aerodactyl and Azelf will just attack anyways (at least, that's what I would do...)
Earthquake against 0/0 Raikou: 59.8% - 70.4%
Rock Slide against 0/0 Azelf: 39.2% - 46.4%
Rock Slide against 0/0 Ambipom: 40.5% - 48.5% (Ambipom can't do anything to Aerodactyl anyways)
I'm pretty sure that's all the notable base 115s in the tier.

While Raikou and Azelf do:
252 SpA Timid Raikou Thunderbolt against 248/0 Aerodactyl: 99.7% - 117.9%
252 SpA Timid LO Azelf Thunderbolt against 248/0 Aerodactyl: 91.5% - 108%

I think either outspeeding base 105s like Mismagius or base 100s would be better, but that's just my opinion...

ok, updated the OP. This is now done. About the EVs, Snunch suggested them, and i kind of went along with it. The extra bulk invested in the defenses taken from speed didn't make that much of a difference to me, and I prefer being able to revenge kill more Pokemon
