[OVERVIEW]

Alomomola's massive HP stat combined with decent Defense makes it one of the bulkier walls that OU has to offer. Combine that with access to a fantastic ability in Regenerator and a useful healing move in Wish, and it is easy to see why Alomomola is a premier Wish passer in OU and a great defensive Pokemon. Alomomola's pure Water typing is great defensively, granting it four resistances and only two weaknesses. On the downside, Alomomola's low base 40 Special Attack means that it is very passive and thus heavily reliant on Scald burns or utility moves such as Toxic and Knock Off. Alomomola fits best either on bulky offensive teams, where it can be used as a defensive pivot while its passivity is made up for by its offensive teammates, or on stall teams, where its passivity is covered by very sturdy defensive Pokemon that are collectively able to handle most offensive threats.

Moves
========

Scald is Alomomola's main attacking move, allowing it to fish for burns, mainly when facing Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and Mega Metagross. Toxic is used to punish Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Slowbro, and Tapu Bulu that may otherwise try to use Alomomola as setup fodder. Toxic also pressures defensive Pokemon that would otherwise be able to sit in against Alomomola and waste its PP. Knock Off is an option to remove items from Pokemon such as Tapu Fini, Toxapex, Amoonguss, and Tapu Bulu. Wish is Alomomola's means of recovery, which it can use to heal both itself and its teammates. Protect enables Alomomola to stall out a turn, gaining an additional turn of Leftovers recovery, getting potential Toxic damage on a foe, and even receiving its own Wish if necessary.

Set Details
========

Since Alomomola's base HP is already so high, it better maximizes its bulk by investing heavily in both defensive stats. There are few Pokemon that will not be healed back to 100% as a recipient of Alomomola's Wish even without it investing into HP, so there is little reason to do so heavily. Therefore, only 40 HP EVs are used, maximizing Leftovers recovery, while 216 Defense EVs combined with a Bold nature hit a jump point in Defense. Maximum Special Defense investment allows Alomomola to stomach hits from Pokemon such as non-transformed Choice Specs Greninja. Leftovers grants Alomomola additional passive recovery, allowing it to more reliably handle threats such as Mega Metagross and Mamoswine. Rocky Helmet can be used in place of Leftovers to chip away at physical attackers, especially U-turn users such as Mega Scizor and Landorus-T; however, the passive recovery provided by Leftovers generally grants better defensive utility in a wider range of situations. Regenerator is what makes Alomomola such a defensive threat, healing a third of its health just for switching out, as well as an excellent Wish passer.

Usage Tips
========

Once Alomomola has been brought in, it is usually best to try and throw out either a Knock Off or a Toxic to cripple the opponent's initial switch-in. Alomomola is a relatively safe Pokemon to use when scouting offensive threats such as Greninja, Mega Metagross, and Keldeo for coverage moves thanks to its great bulk combined with Regenerator, so don't be afraid to switch it in during situations such as this. Lastly, keep in mind that Alomomola needs to be at a relatively high amount of HP in order to reliably wall many of the more powerful wallbreakers in OU, so try not to let it get too weak; sometimes, it is best for Alomomola to receive its own Wish, rather than passing it, so that it can remain healthy.

Team Options
========

Heatran and Alomomola create a good defensive core, with Heatran being able to check a number of the common Pokemon that can give Alomomola trouble such as Grass-types, Mega Charizard Y, and Swords Dance Mega Mawile. In return, Alomomola keeps Heatran healthy with Wish, negating Heatran's lack of a recovery move. Physically defensive Landorus-T can be used to check physical setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Landorus, Excadrill, and Coil Zygarde that may otherwise overwhelm Alomomola. Unaware Clefable deals with setup Pokemon such as Tail Glow Manaphy, Swords Dance Garchomp, and Belly Drum Azumarill. Wallbreakers such as Kyurem-B, Mega Metagross, and Tapu Lele all appreciate being kept healthy via Alomomola's Wish, giving them greater staying power. Alomomola is also able to threaten most Steel-types with Knock Off and Scald burns.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Mirror Coat can be used to hit Pokemon such as Magearna, Choice Specs Ash-Greninja, and Gengar that would otherwise be able to overwhelm Alomomola's weaker Special Defense. Healing Wish allows Alomomola to bring a teammate back to full HP and cures any status inflictions it may be suffering from; however, it must sacrifice itself in the process. This often isn't a fantastic course of action when you consider that Alomomola can bring most Pokemon back to maximum HP just by passing them a Wish. Magic Coat can be used to bounce back moves such as Toxic, Will-O-Wisp, and Taunt, preventing Alomomola from being worn down or crippled by them.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass- and Electric-type Pokemon**: Tapu Bulu, Mega Venusaur, Tapu Koko, and Zapdos are just a few of a slew of Grass- and Electric-types that are able to deal with Alomomola by using their super effective STAB attacks.

**Setup Sweepers**: Boosting sweepers, especially those not hindered by Scald burns or Toxic, such as Calm Mind Tapu Fini and Tail Glow Manaphy, are able to take advantage of Alomomola's innate passivity and use it as setup fodder. Substitute users such as Coil Zygarde, Dragon Dance Mega Gyarados, and Substitute + Leech Seed Serperior do something similar, as Alomomola is too weak to break their Substitute.

**Powerful Special Attackers**: Even with a sky-high HP stat, Alomomola's very low Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to powerful Choice Specs users such as such as Ash-Greninja, Tapu Lele, and Gengar.

**Taunt Users**: Taunt Pokemon such as Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini can prevent Alomomola from using utility moves such as Wish and Toxic, which can severely limit its ability to act as a defensive threat.

leftovers helps it avoid 2hkos from ashgren, mmeta etc. also stacks up w/ protect
252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Dark Pulse vs. 40 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 276-325 (57.5 - 67.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

IMO this is really shaky. Even with Protect, unless Mola is completely at full health coming in and SR are off the field, there is still a pretty significantly high chance that Ash Gren can muscle through with Dark Pulse, especially if it gets a decently high roll. I think it's worth mentioning that it can avoid the 2HKO from regular Specs Gren pre Battle Bond which is still pretty significant, considering it can't really get a kill reliably to activate Bond as long as Mola is around.

Otherwise, good analysis. QC 1/3

I'd preferred to make Toxic the main slash rather than Knock Off. While knocking off lefties and items from Fini, Amoomguss and all is nice you generally can outlast Fini and Amoonguss gets burned cutting down it's recovery. Plus Knock Off is bait for things like Keldeo who would prefer to not have the Scarf against stall matchups. Outside of that everything looks good. Good work. 2/3
