Overview
########

  • Has a huge base 184 Defense, along with a base 95 Hp, allowing it to take physical super effective hits easily.
  • Has reliable recovery in Recover.
  • Has a Good base 117 Attack.
  • Has access to Rapid Spin.
  • Has the Abilities Ice Body, and Sturdy for longevity.
  • Ice is a horrible type defensively.
  • It has horrible Special Defense.
  • It's slow as molasses.

Defensive Support
########
name: Defensive Support
move 1: Rapid Spin
move 2: Recover
move 3: Avalanche
move 4: Roar / Earthquake / Stone Edge
ability: Sturdy / Ice Body
item: Leftovers
nature: Impish
evs: 252 Hp / 4 Atk / 252 Def

Moves
========

  • Rapid Spin for utility.
  • Recover for longevity.
  • Avalanche is a great attack to use for such a slow Pokemon like Avalugg.
  • Roar is to phaze a Pokemon that is setting up on you, but can use Earthquake or Stone Edge for coverage.

Set Details
========

  • Leftovers are use to add longevity to Avalugg.
  • Impish is used to increase its Defense.
  • Sturdy is used so you can survive an attack that could otherwise OHKO you, but you can use Ice Body instead if you are using a hail based weather team.

Usage Tips
========

  • The best time to bring it out is during a move your opponent is stuck on using like Outrage.
  • Do not bring it out on any special attacker.
  • When you send it out, you should Rapid Spin if there are hazards around.
  • use Recover if Avalugg is getting a little low on Hp.

Team Options
========

  • Avalugg cannot take a special hit easily, so anything that can take out the special attackers will do.
  • Avalugg will also appreciates a special wall to tank the special hits that Avalugg cannot.
  • Good Pokemon that can handle that Avalugg cannot are, Goodra, Blissey, and Florges.
  • Pokemon like Scizor, and Aegislash, can also knock out the special attacker.

Other Options
########

  • You can try to run a offensive set with Curse, but it still doesn't do that much damage after 1 boost other than on types it's super effective on.
  • You could also use a Stall variant, but it can be complete Taunt bait, it's weak to Stealth Rocks, and a quite a few Pokemon are immune to Toxic.

Checks & Counters
########

  • Really anything that has moderate Special Attack can take Avalugg down.
  • Since Avalugg is really slow, almost every Pokemon outspeeds it, like Reuniclus.
  • If it doesn't have Roar, it can be easily set-up on.
  • Sableye can completely ruin Avalugg with both Taunt, and Will-o-Wisp.

This is my first preview

I have run into a few Avalugg carrying Assault Vest though I'm not so sure how effective it is since I haven't tried it out myself. Mirror Coat may be able to get some mention here as with enough investment Avalugg can take one special hit and then retaliate fairly well, often times to the surprise of the opponent. Just some thoughts of mine

I'm wondering if I could also add an offensive set to this preview. It does have a good attack stat.
Feel free to, as you are only in the Quality Control stage of this analysis. However, at a subjective standpoint, the chances of an offensive set getting passed are very very slim.

Also, please fix any mispellings and punctuation errors (Molasses isn't a person or important place) in your analysis when you look over it again, as it degenerates presentation and doesn't bode well for first impressions.

And lol no Assault Vest Avalugg.

Sorry, I have a bad habit when it comes to grammar, and I didn't have time to proof read it. I believed I fixed everything now.

Edit: been testing out a physical set with Curse. When I try to set-up, my opponent just switches out to a special attacker, so it only really works if you take out all of the opponent's special attackers. I haven't gotten a chance to set-up with all of the special attackers out of the way, so I'm going to continue testing.

Edit (again): Ya, the physical set is a no go.

Not a fan of the stall set since it does nothing imo. Your flat out Taunt bait vs Sableye, Deoxys-S, Deoxys-S, and Terrakion, lose to everything faster with a Substitute, and lose to every steel type / magic guard / poison immune mon in the game. This is especially crucial since some of the most aggressive sweepers in the meta are steel types (for instance Lucario and I guess Mawile), and some of the more defensive steel types get free layers of Spikes (think Skarmory, Forretress, and Ferrothorn), and you still lose to your most common counter in Heatran, which can set up SR, and Roar / Lava Plume you out etc. On top of this, you are SR weak, which also cuts into your viability. If I EVER wanted to run a stall set like the one posted, why wouldn't I run something like Deoxys-D with Agility / Recover / Taunt / Toxic, which potentially does a much better job at what you are trying to do.

Okay I will remove the stall set, and put it along with the offensive set in OO. I believe it's ready for QC now.

Edit: I don't think the curse set is really worth a mention, but I'll leave it there to see what QC thinks.

Does Avalugg actually work in OU? Despite the monstrous Defense and access to Recover, its terrible defensive typing does it no favours. Susceptibility to every entry hazard compounds its issues as a Rapid Spinner in OU. It's also easy bait to a ridiculous amount of both offensive and defensive threats.

Like this thing is terrible and I can't see it doing well. I just annihilate it everytime I face a team with it.

Lolavalugg.

I'm sorry I understand in 3v3 singles but in a normal OU setting? It is wrecked by everything...
