Bronzong-Master of Bulk

[Introduction]

Hi, I'm relatively new to Smogon forums however I've been a hardened veteran of Pokemon for quite a while. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is George and I've been growing quite fond of steel-type Pokemon which has led me to become a Steel-type specialist. I had a very good friend of mine recommend a very annoying Sigilyph set [Cosmic Power, Roost, Stored Power, Psycho shift] to Smogon and it eventually became official. Also, his psychic team would always beat my steel team 1-0 because of Sigilyph. Obviously there are counters to everything like dragon tail or taunt but having Aggron fainted served no use of his dragon tail and there were very few steel Pokemon that run taunt. So this leads me to here. My psychic-specialist friend has quit Pokemon quite a while ago while I continue to knock off the rust off my steel. Like my friend, I tend to use my own sets in battle as they do work out quite successfully. So it leads me to here, to start off I would like to share my Bronzong set I use during situational times.

[Overview]

Bronzong is a rather, interesting Pokemon with a nice defensive typing allowing it to have nine resistances and one immunity. It gains the abilities Heatproof and Levitate (levitate being the more obvious choice) which at times will cause a lot of mind games. It can be used effectively by getting a free switch in without taking any prior damage such as switching into a toxic which will have no effect on Bronzong. Bronzong also has a higher base attack than its special attack, making opponents such as Sabeye or Gourgeist more willing to burn it. A rather decent special and physical defense allows Bronzong to set up more effectively while continuously applying pressure to the enemy. Having only a handful of counters to this set Bronzong has high sweeping potential and also has no trouble dealing with being crippled by thunder wave or will o wisp.

[The Set]

Bronzong @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Heatproof
Nature: Calm.
Ev Spread: 252 HP, 252 Special Defence, 4 Defence

Calm Mind
Iron Defence
Rest
Flash Cannon/Psychic

[Set Comments]

Moves:

Bronzong has great defensive potential as shown above.
Step one: Get bulky
Step two: Rest
Step three: Sweep
Because Bonzong's main weakness ties around ghost and dark type moves, a specially defensive set is recommended as most ghost and dark moves are special. Calm mind is to further more improve its special defense while setting up its special attack to sweep late game. Iron defense is a utility which allows Bronzong to take in STAB physical moves very well. Flash cannon is Bronzong's main STAB and hits everything decently hard even if its 4X resisted by Pokemon such as Heatran. Once Bronzong is set up it is difficult to remove without critical hits allowing it to tank hits like nothing and to hit back very hard. Psychic is also another option only if you are confident in your team's ability to deal with dark types.

Set Details:

Maximum HP and special defense allows Bronzong to take a lot of fire, dark, and ghost special attacks such as Fire blast, Dark Pulse, and Shadow Ball, some commonly used moves in RU. 4 Evs into defense allows it to take physical attacks well while being complemented with Iron Defense. Heatproof over levitate as most trainers will usually predict levitate and attempt to hit it with strong fire attacks instead of risking the unnecessary earthquake. A Chesto Berry is necessary for that full hp recovery once it has finished setting up.

Usage Tips:
What I like about this Bronzong set is it's ability to be compatible with nearly any team. Personally I use Bronzong as my Fighting/Ground/Fire counter on my mono-steel team. Bronzong can switch into stealth rocks without an issue however avoid letting your opponents set up spikes as it will make it obvious of Bronzongs ability. This set is heavy countered by taunt users as well as forced-switch ins such as Whirlwind, Roar, and Dragon tail. Be sure to wary of these threats and try to switch in Bronzong when the threat is eliminated.

Team Options:

If somehow Bronzong faints to a critical hit fast revenge killers help clean up what Bronzong has started. Bronzong is also good on teams with Pokemon that do not enjoy being crippled. Such as thunder wave on an agility Kingler set, as Bronzong is the perfect switch in for it

[Other Options]

A Bronzong can also be used as a dual screens setter upper with light clay, however I tend to leave screens to Pokemon with Prankster. Also defog users will make Bronzong cry as its screens gets blown away. A Physically defensive charge beam Bronzong can also be interesting to play around with, but is walled by ground types that potentially can earthquake Bronzong.

[Checks & Counters]

Other Calm mind users: Although not a very hard counter. This tends to be a very touchy subject. Although Bronzong has good special defense a Calm Mind Slowking with shadow ball may prove dominance as it all comes down to base stats and investment

Taunt:
This is very difficult for Bronzong to overcome as flash cannon with no investment will tickle even the frail Pokemon leaving Bronzong naked. With no buffs it will make Bronzong useless as it cannon tank any hits decently well enough to sweep.

Roar-Whirlwind-Dragon tail:
R.I.P. Bronzong. This completely walls Bronzong as it evicts Bronzongs ability to set up. The worst thing that can happen is if it gets switched out after it has popped its Chesto. The only way for Bronzong to overcome this is for him to be the last Pokemon on your team. Leaving you to rely on this one Pokemon to carry you hard.

Anyways this took a long time to type up I just really wanted to share some of my sets so yea. If you've read this far I thank you for taking your time. Feel free to leave your opinions below and if you like I have many more interesting sets that I'm willing to share :)
