DISCLAIMER: Since it was adjusted with a hotfix, I went with the newest version of the arena, since it is not Rediamond's fault that nobody edited that in the OP. BUT I strongly recommend, red, that you either always remember to include it in the rules OR bug (oh boy I crack me up) someone to edit it in the OP.

Arena:
Relic Castle

Hidden away for centuries, a monster resides at the bottom of the ancient castle. And he is not happy to be disturbed.

Sand pours down from the higher levels in the gigantic throne room of the Relic Castle in Unova. But, that is not nearly so impressive as the set of columns and stone stairs leading up to the ancient throne, or the scope of the chamber. And those fail to capture the potential danger of the angry Volcarona hovering above you.

The arena revolves around both the natural layout of the room, and Volcarona intimidating non-bugs and assisting bug-types in his home.

-No natural water
-Hail, Rain Dance, and Sunny Day may not naturally be used
-Sandstorm costs three less energy to summon
-Trapping moves cost two less energy and last for an additional round
-Any rock move that requires natural rocks used by a non-bug type will result in Volcarona (neutral nature) attacking the user with Fire Spin. This shall be interpreted as Rock Throw, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, and Stealth Rock.
-Swarm is automatically active for all Pokemon who have it
-Fly and Bounce will only evade contact moves during their semi-invulnerable phase
-Volcarona is a proponent of honorable combat. As such, it will use String Shot on any combatant forced out by an opponent through Roar, Whirlwind, Circle Throw, or Dragon Tail. This will lower the speed of the affected Pokemon by one, but prevent them from being forcibly switched out.

Heya folks!

...this is getting old.

Today we will see yet another battle on the Bug Gym. As an aside, poor Rediamond is being challenged by a long line of strong challengers. I don't envy him.

Our Gym Leader is a man that can play really well. Which doesn't mean that he will play really well. If you check his battles here, you will notice the following flux:
1) Do stuff
2) Screw up
3) Begin to lose the game
4) Play Seriously a bit
5) Screw up again
6) Begin to march towards a crushing defeat
7) Play Seriously on the last couple of rounds
8) Win/Lose either way

Which isn't good for one's skin.

Well...hopefully, he will try to play seriously on the entire match so emma doesn't get that close to me on the gym race >_>.

Pay special attention to Queen of Blades the Scizor. After making the rather weird move of evolving his Scyther to get a second Scizor, Rediamond got a strong contender to help Corpus the Heracross and Diego Armaldo to keep the pressure up. For some weird but probably well-thought reason, Emma only brought one fire type and his other mons may not be able to put up with Mega Scizor. Or at least I don't think so.

Yes, I applaud Rediamond's idea of using 2 megaevos here. Bug have 3 great megaevos, while Emma has 1. While that isn't that relevant, it is still something.

Elevator Music is regarded as one of the best (if not the best) Singles player in ASB. His humongous movepools coupled with great strategies and predictions means that face him is like facing a wall. The fucking Great Wall of China.

Pay special attention to Putera the Aerodactyl. Aside from the aforementioned Scizor, Aerodactyl shits all over every other member of red's team. And it has a Mega Evo if that is worth something.

Now let's check the teeeams!

Type:
Bug/Fire: Bug STAB; More mobility in dense brush or forest conditions. Gain an extra guaranteed attack on multi-hit moves. Fire STAB; immune to burn, emit a low glow in dark places, takes additional damage if active open flames are exposed to a water attack. Superior senses in volcanic or brushfire areas.

Abilities:
Flame Body: (Innate) This Pokemon’s external temperature is kept at such a high level that any contact attack used on this Pokemon has a 30% chance of burning the opponent.
Swarm: (Innate) When this Pokemon’s HP is lower than 33% (flat), the Base Attack Power of any Bug-typed attack is increased by 2. (eg Silver Wind goes from 6 to 8, X-Scissor from 8 to 10)
[DreamWorld]
Levitate: (Trait) This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit. Levitate Pokemon will retain the Levitate trait when they use Skill Swap on an enemy, and will steal the opponent's ability (the user can specify if they want a foe or ally to gain Levitate from a Skill Swap.) If a Pokemon with Levitate uses Role Play, they will copy the opponent's abilities and retain Levitate.

Round 1!

Welcome to the jungle, people!

well...not a jungle per se, more of a castle. But it sure sounds like a jungle with all the buzzing!

GAH

...anyway

The challenger sends out Yamirami the Sableye, which is countered by Flare the Volcarona. In theory, Volcarona has the advantage, but Sableye is a tricky bastard, so let's see how it pans out.

The round starts with Yamirami using a Mean Look to trap Volcarona. It seems that Sableye was just a bait!

Unfazed by it, Flare attacks with a very strong Fire Blast. Will it be enough?

Well, not really. Flare continues the assault with a Flamethrower, but everything was for naught as Sableye then used Pain Split to even the battle completely.

On the final action, Yamirami taunts Flare, in order to prevent surprises next round. And adding Injury to Insult (order change is intentional), Flare's final Fire Blast missed the ghost!

Not the best that could happen to the leader...

And now Flare is trapped, and you can be sure as hell that Yamirami will switch to a more...fitting opponent.

Stay tuned.

Round 2!

Hello folks and welcome to Round 2!

...and no I didn't take that long, it is all in your head.

ANYWAY

After trapping Flare the Volcarona on the last round, the Challenger sends out his ace: Putera the Aerodactyl with that Mega Stone and can't/won't spell.

doesn't not bode well for Volcarona.

At first.

Anyway, the round starts with Putera Megaevolving and attacking with a vicious Rock Slide. Unfortunately, the Volcarona that lives here hates to see rocks being thrown away and ruining her lovely temple, so she attacked Putera with Fire Spin in retaliation.

The trainer's Volcarona took the opportunity and used U-turn to almost deal damage and be ready to flee.

(ref note: not really necessary, since fire spin traps and all and flare could switch out without a counterswitch next round, but oh well).

On the second action, Putera strikes hard once more, now with a Stone Edge for Massive Damage. But the Stray Volcarona is even more pissed and another Fire Spin is used against the Aerodactyl. Maybe Rock-Mons aren't that cost-efficient here. Or not haha.

Still on the same turn, Flare pulls out the big guns and attacks Putera with a strong Combination of Hyper Beam + Giga Drain, which even got a critical hit! That was crucial to Flare's survival as we will see soon enough.

Finally, Putera attacks onde more with Rock Slide, but Flare managed to survive with one meager hp! The Stray Volcarona retaliates once more and Flare cools down as this round comes to an end!

If you look at the raw numbers, you may think that the challenger has the advantage. Which isn't wrong per se. But his Aerodactyl (aka only Megaevo) isn't on tip-top condition, while the Leader has Pinsir, Scizor and Heracross on his wings, ready to wreak havoc.

In other words: this is far from over. Also, the next send out will be crucial to see which way momentum will go here.

Stay tuned!

The arena says only that the move needs to require natural rocks. If said rocks are supplied by the arena or by the belly of a pokemon, it doesn't seem to be relevant, according to the description.

Rock Slide and Stone Edge require "natural rocks" and Aerodactyl itself it supplying these rocks by virtue of typing. But the move still require them to work, so it should be affected.

At least that is how I see it (or else it would be a very weak mechanic, not being able to affect rock mons and all >_<). Feel free to get a second opinion (someone from the committee or Red will do).

Agree with Frosty's interpretation. It's been reffed as such several times before as well (my stratagem using stealth rock). The move needs to be specifically excluded from the arena to not trigger the volcarona (I.e. Paleo wave).

Scizor actually has light metal, and not steadfast, as a hidden ability. Don't know how I didn't catch that and I will update it. With that said, given Scizor and the wording of ASB Light Metal I doubt this is actually relevant.

Razor Wind's description also mentions removing the effects of partial trapping (and trapping) moves, because it wasn't a ridiculous enough move already I guess?

Also it should be NVE

Well, that was actually relevant. Scizor has Light Metal and after ability adjustments from Technician, Bullet Punch is 6 BP. This means that it gets another priority boost to +2, putting it over Razor Wind's shield priority and landing two hits. I would normally be fine not including it sense that was a failure on my part to update, but I literally gave a warning in the thread about it when I deployed, so I think that it's fair to factor it in.

lol whoops x.x

I'll go to Camerupt @ Charcoal.

Camerupt: Flamethrower ~ Fire Blast ~ Flamethrower
