Can someone explain ladders to me?

How do points in ladders work?

I just played in a match where I barely lost, and the person went up by 30 or 40 points. He was ranked in the 1600s, and I am ranked in the 1500s.

The highest I've ever gone up is 3 or 4 at a time, and that's beating people way higher ranked (at least 200 or 300 higher than me) and people lower ranked (over 400 lower than me).

Why did he get such a big jump, and I get almost nothing for each win?

How many matches have you fought? Your rank increases and decreases inversely proportional to the number of matches fought, if that makes sense. For future reference, search up ACRE ranking or Glicko2 on the internet for a much more complicated explanation.

I see so this is the reason why it's like that. I thought it's just another bug.
