Overview
#######

Chansey is a staple on stall, and it's not hard to see why. Thanks to Eviolite, Chansey's special bulk is extremely high, even surpassing that of her evolution, Blissey. Not only that, but Eviolite also boosts Chansey's pitiful Defense stat into something more usable, allowing it to take some physical hits. Chansey's movepool compliments her great bulk extremely well; access to moves such as Soft-Boiled, Wish, Heal Bell, Toxic, Thunder Wave, and Stealth Rock help Chansey easily support both herself and her team with ease. She even has access to Seismic Toss, allowing her to actually do reliable damage to the opponent. However, Chansey is quite reliant on Eviloite, meaning she can't use Leftovers as her item. This leaves her vulnerable to passive damage, and she must be kept healthy at all times during the match. Chansey can also be somewhat easy to set up on, especially if her status move of choice has been revealed. Overall, however, Chansey is a great special wall that is recommended for any and all forms of stall.

Moves
======

Due to Chansey's large support movepool, Chansey has many different options at her disposal. Soft-Boiled gives Chansey a reliable means of recovery, allowing her to stay healthy throughout the match. Heal Bell is the move of choice for the second slot, as it allows Chansey to heal crippling status effects on her teammates. Stealth Rock is another option that Chansey can use if none of her other teammates are able to use the move. However, it is worth noting that losing the ability to use Heal Bell means that Chansey can no longer heal status effects for her teammates. Toxic is chosen for the third slot due to its ability to put both setup sweepers and walls on a timer. Thunder Wave is another option that Chansey has access to. Though it immediately shuts down faster boosting sweepers, it also leaves Chansey unable to gets past other, bulkier Pokemon. Stealth Rock is once again an option in the third slot, but it must be noted that Chansey is especially vulnerable to setup sweepers if it decides to go without status, especially those with recovery. Finally, Seismic Toss is the move of choice in the last spot due to its ability to deal reliable damage to the opponent.

Set Details
=========

Eviolite is the most important part of this set, as it changes Chansey from an outclassed NFE to the special wall that she is. Due to her large HP stat, Chansey doesn't need to invest in HP. This makes a spread of max Defense and Special Defense the most optimal, as it boosts both her defensive stats to great levels. A Bold nature further boosts Chansey's physical bulk, allowing her to take physical hits surprisingly well. Finally, Natural Cure benefits Chansey by allowing her to recover from status moves as she switches out, making her almost impossible to wear down with Toxic.

Usage Tips
=========

Due to her good bulk, Chansey can be used to check and/or counter the following Pokemon: Goodra, Greninja, Heatran, Kingdra, Latias, (Mega) Alakazam, (Mega) Gardevoir, Mega Manetric, (Mega) Venusaur, non-Knock Off Deoxys-S, non-Knock Off Landorus, non-Knock Off Thundurus, non-Trick Rotom-W, Politoed, Raikou, special Mega Charizard-Y, Starmie, Substitute Kyurem-B, Togekiss, Unaware Clefable, Volcarona, Zapdos, and plenty more. One of the most important things to note when using Chansey is to keep it healthy at all times; without Leftovers, it can have a really easy time getting worn down. Some users of setup moves can have a really easy time boosting against Chansey, so make sure to switch out, use status, or hit them with Seismic Toss if you expect a boosting move. Scouting for Knock Off and Trick against more uncommon users of the move such as Landorus, Thundurus, and Rotom-W is very important in order to keep your Eviolite. Heal Bell, while useful, can also cause your team to lose momentum. As such, only use it when one of your teammates absolutely needs its status ailments cured.

Team Options
============

Chansey has many different Pokemon that can pair with it effectively. Unaware users, such as Quagsire and Clefable, are the most helpful partners, as they can stop Pokemon that commonly like to set up against Chansey. Physical walls, such as Hippowdon and physically defensive Mega Venusaur, can help absorb physical moves for Chansey. Skarmory, Mega Scizor, and Mandibuzz are other physical walls with access to Defog, which can help remove the entry hazards that can easily wear Chansey down. Pokemon that dislike status, such as Landorus-T, Tyranitar, Slowbro , Garchomp, Mega Mawile, and Mega Pinsir, all appreciate Chansey's ability to act as a cleric. Finally, Mega Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Scizor, and Mega Aggron can help Chansey by easily absorbing Knock Off for her.

Wish is the main move on this set, as it allows Chansey to heal not only herself, but her teammates as well. Soft-Boiled is the next move, as it gives Chansey a way of instantly healing herself, something that she needs in order to avoid being worn down. Seismic Toss is the third move on the set, as its Chansey's only way to deal direct damage to the opponent. Finally, Toxic is used in the last slot in order to put both setup sweepers and walls on a timer. Stealth Rock can be used instead of Toxic, but without Toxic, Chansey doesn't really have any way to cripple the opponent, and Stealth Rock is usually better set by teammates anyways. If necessary, Stealth Rock should be substituted for Toxic and only Toxic, as Seismic Toss is necessary to do any direct damage to the opponent. Finally, Protect can be used in tandem with Wish for guaranteed healing, but Protect gives the opponent a free turn to do whatever they want. It also doesn't give Chansey the instant recovery of Soft-Boiled, which is very helpful to prevent it from being worn down.

There are many different Pokemon that can pair well with Chansey. Unaware users, such as Quagsire and Clefable, make some of the best partners, as they can easily stop some of the boosting sweepers who like to set up on Chansey. Physical walls such as Hippowdon and physically defensive Mega Venusaur can also stop powerful physical attacks aimed at Chansey. Skarmory, Mega Scizor, and Mandibuzz are some other physical walls who can use Defog, which can help stop Chansey from getting easily worn down. Pokemon who can't reliably heal themselves, such as Heatran, Aegislash, and Landorus-T, all also make great partners, as they really appreciate Chansey's ability to WishPass. Finally, Mega Pokemon, such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Scizor, and Mega Aggron, can all help absorb Knock Off, a move Chansey hates.


Other Options
############

There isn't much else Chansey can do that isn't already listed. One of the more notable options is Counter. With it, Chansey can net some surprise KOs against Pokemon such as Garchomp. Unfortunately, Chansey is forced out by a lot of physical attackers, and Chansey doesn't really have room for it on either of her sets, anyway.

Checks & Counters
#################

**Physical Fighting-types**: Physical Fighting-types, such as Terrakion, Conkeldurr, Mega Medicham, and Breloom, can all switch in to most of Chansey's move and KO with a super effective STAB Fighting-type attack. However, faster Fighting-types must be careful of Thunder Wave.

**Knock Off/Trick users**: Knock Off users, such as Bisharp, Deoxys-S, Mega Scizor, Thundurus, and Landorus, can all remove Chansey's Eviolite, making it much less useful. Trick users, such as Rotom-W, Rotom-H, and Latios, can also remove her Eviolite while also forcing her to use an item such as a Choice Scarf, severely crippling her for the rest of the match.

**Trappers**: Trappers, such as Gothitelle and Wobbuffet, can trap Chansey with their abilities. Gothitelle can Trick her Choice Specs or hit her hard with Psyshock, while Wobbuffet can Encore her into a certain move, making her setup fodder for another Pokemon.

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers that don't mind Toxic or Thunder Wave, such as Mega Mawile and Mega Scizor, can easily use Chansey as setup bait for a sweep.

**Psyshock/Secret Sword**: Both Psyshock and Secret Sword hit Chansey's weaker Defense stat, allowing Pokemon like Keldeo and Calm Mind Mega Gardevoir to beat Chansey.

**Taunt**: Taunt users, such as Gengar and Mega Gardevoir, have an easy time shutting Chansey down. Gengar is the most notable user of this move, as it's immune to Seismic Toss and can easily set a Substitute up on Chansey. However, Taunt users that lack reliable recovery must be aware of being worn down by Seismic Toss.

**Powerful Physical Attackers**: In general, powerful physical attackers, such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Tyranitar, and Diggersby, can easily overpower Chansey through her weaker Defense stat.

  • Heal Bell, while useful, can lose momentum for the team, so use it only when absolutely necessary.
  • Once again, Chansey can take almost any special attack in the game.

  • Pokemon that hate status, such as Landorus-T, Tyranitar, and Slowbro all appreciate Chansey's ability to cure status.
  • Knock Off is an extreme thorn in Chansey's side, so Mega Pokemon, such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Scizor, and Mega Aggron can all help absorb this move for Chansey.
  • Defog users, such as Skarmory, Mandibuzz, and Mega Scizor all help prevent Chansey from getting worn down through entry hazards. This also makes Pokemon to deal with Bisharp, such as Quagsire and Mega Scizor, helpful partners.

I don't see knock off mentioned anywhere, it's a massive thorn in Chansey's side and is absolutely everywhere right now.

Besides talking about how it screws Chansey up, you can say how teaming Chansey with pokemon that don't care about knock off (i.e. mega pokes) can help mitigate that.

Oh god not this same old tiresome argument again. Knock Off is literally irrelevant to Chansey as no Chansey user would stay on a Knock Off user, that's like saying you need to specifically mention Close Combat as well becase it's a thorn in Chansey's side or whatever. The Knock Off argument is a poor one.
 
I meant more in the sense that the huge buff to the move is something that deserves a mention in the overview because it went from something that was rarely used in 5th gen OU (and therefore something Chansey users didn't really have to worry about that much) to something that is almost on every team in 6th gen, and therefore is a change that should be considered when building a team.

except this isnt true trc. Generally specially offensive pokemon such as Landorus, Thundurus, and yes weaker physical attackers Chansey can actually wall such as assault vest azumarill carry knock off which can make chansey wary. ALso defensive pokemon such as Mew, or Mandibuzz which chansey might be able to toxic stall out can carry Knock Off.

Further still pokemon like Bisharp have a way easier time applying offensive pressure to Chansey as the threat of knock off will ALWAYS force it out and as such pursuit is a very safe option for Bisharp to use.

Stray Knock Off use should be somewhere in usage tips or something for sure.

Oh, I agree with all of this, I just believe that it definitely isn't overview material, as you are reinforcing the notion that Chansey has such a terrible time from Knock Off that there is an incentive to use Blissey, which simply isn't true. However, I do agree with mentioning it in Usage Tips, as it is important to note the various scenarios in which case playing around Knock Off is important.
 
I'll make sure to mention Knock Off users in C&C (they at the very least force Chansey out), as well as mention how Mega Venusaur/Scizor/Aggron are both good defensive Megas that can pair well with Chansey. Usage tips will also talk about scouting for stray Knock Off's from the likes of the Pokemon you mentioned (Thundy, Lando, and AV Azu)
 
"101 HP Substitute users"

I dont know if this is even worth mentioning anymore. Only Substitute users that spring to mind that reach this tier is Zygarde. Tyranitar doesnt have a Substitute set and neither do the majority of the Pokemon with a high HP stat (100 or more). I would just remove the mention in C&C.

Taunt users are more threatening anyway.
 
I am not qc so take it with a grain of salt but, Heal bell / Aromatherapy deserves at the very least a mention in moves section of the first set. It is a very useful move for stall teams where chansey thrives. It also means that chansey does not have to switch out everytime something toxics her.

Heal Bell is the exact same move as Aromatherapy. The only difference is compatibility.

I was talking about the first set which acts more like a clerik due to having wish. (oh.. And i wanted to say heal bell / aromatherapy, but missed it. lol)
 
heal bell / wish on the same set is not functional. For Wish to actually be efficient protect or softboiled must be used alongside it. Now you have a 1 moveslot remaining, so you either forfeit status which makes you easy to deal with for anything with recovery or a ghost typing, or you can forfeit seismic toss which makes you easy to deal with for anything with taunt or immunity to your status. Neither are very viable.

If you want to drop status on chansey it isnt a total sitting duck ill admit, however the issue that I see is that toxic chansey lets it prevents it from worn down by shit that just boosts to hell to try and plow through it like cm lando or np thundy. With toxic you can hit them with toxic then spam healing until they die which lets you live with a fair bit of health however if youre forced to seismic toss to do damage even if you win Chansey is going to be very low on health and thus easily beaten later in the match

Thunder wave also creates free turns as spamming healing as the opponent attacks eventually lets you heal up to full barring crits so you can be relatively self sustainable.

Basically statusless chansey requires more support than chansey with status.

What Ash said. Chansey has the moveslots to do two of three: provide Wish Support, provide Heal Bell/Aromatherapy Support, not be total set up bait. You really want to have the second, which requires Toxic and Seismic Toss, and you need Softboiled for your own recovery, so you have either Wish or a cleric move in the last slot.
 
Any reason why Stealth Rock isn't slashed in the Wish set with Toxic? That's the set I most frequently use and it works out fine. If Support Chansey can go without Toxic then Wish Chansey definitely can too. There's a lot of scenarios where I'd rather put SR and forego Toxic on Chansey than, say, Heatran.

I was actually thinking that instead of just putting SR on the Wish set, the two sets should be just merged like this:

Move 4: Toxic / Thunder Wave / Stealth Rock
Ability: Natural Cure
Item: Eviolite
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Nature: Bold

I mean, they both play so damn similarly anyways that I se no point in separating the sets. Both of them basically sum up to

Move 1: Recovery
Move 2: Team Support
Move 3: Damage
Move 4: Crippler

and they both have the same Nature, Ability, and EV spread, so separating them is really just overcomplicating things, IMO.
 
Maybe Counter could receive some sort of mention in OO?
Chansey's practically built for it, it can take some decently strong-ish hits like Garchomp's eq:
252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 217-256 (33.8 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
and then kill it back with counter.
It's not the greatest option, obviously, but it's a pretty cool move to catch an opponent with.

Counter is already listed in OO.

Also CyclicCompound, I'm not so sure Chansey really wants to give up status... It seems so valuable as a way to stop shit from setting up on you. I'll make a mention of it in Moves, but I'm not sure it deserves a main slash yet. Some QC input would be nice.
