Hello Doubles! Those of you who've been here a while might remember the Dark Horse Project that Birkal hosted in OU a long time ago; well I'm here to port it to Doubles. There are a couple good reasons to participate in this project. First, participating will help us test the new Pokemon that this generation brought us. Second, participating will bring up the usage of some criminally underused Pokemon to help balance out all the noobs spamming Greninja (sorry blarajan). Third, if you succeed your run of the Dark Horse project, you'll get a nice reward (Leaderboard points)!

The rules of the project are as follows:

• You must choose two Pokemon on the list of usage stats (found here, at least for now) that have had less than 4% usage in the previous month.
• You must build a team with them (don't just steal an RMT that happened to have both). The entire team's usage stats combined must have 35% usage or less!
• You must post here stating the two Dark Horse Pokemon you were using and the fresh alt you are going to ladder under.
• After that, you have the entire month to bring said fresh alt up to a point where you can be a Dark Horse champion!
• Once you've achieved this, edit your registration post with a screencap of your ranking to be added to the Hall of Fame.
• If someone else took your same dark horse to a higher ranking, you don't get to enter the hall of fame for that dark horse! Only one of your dark horses needs to not be topped in order for you enter the hall of fame.
• Every month, the Hall of Fame will be preserved, but a new Dark Horse challenge will start, so you can pick another couple Pokemon that you want to use and score leaderboard points again!
  
• Note you can't get in the Hall of Fame with the same Dark Horse Pokemon multiple times (though the rest of your team can be recycled if you so wish).
• Discussions of your Dark Horses are greatly encouraged. Post here with commentary, findings, teams, strategies, etc.—anything to do with the Dark Horse you've been using and what you've learned from it!

There will be three ranks in the hall of fame. C rank is bringing your team to ELO 1350 and will earn you 1 leaderboard point. B rank is bringing your team to ELO 1400 and will earn you 2 leaderboard points. A rank is earning an ELO 1450 or better and will earn you 4 leaderboard points!

Yes, a hail team. That has less than 4% usage too!

Full team is Victini, Abomasnow, Kyurem-B, Galvantula, Starmie, and Lapras. So my entire team is dark horses. Aboma's the highest usage.

So far my main issue is trick room teams, since I use sticky web.

Dark Horse completed with Jirachi / Salamence / Sylveon (Dark Horses) + Mega Kanga / Heatran / Hitmontop
Choice Specs Sylveon with Hyper Voice is extremely powerful, and works well with Follow Me (Jirachi), Fake Out (Kangaskhan + Hitmontop), and Tailwind (Salamence). Heatran is arguably the top Pokemon in the metagame right now and gives me an answer to sun and other Fire-types. Fake Out is still extremely good in the metagame and can truly turn a game around, which is why having 2 users of the move works well. Feint and Wide Guard are also very useful support moves I used on Hitmontop that can also turn the tide of a game. I picked Mega Kanga as my Mega Pokemon because of the aforementioned Fake Out support and also because it is an extremely bulky and powerful attacker in one that can force 50/50s thanks to Sucker Punch.

As pointed out by a friend of mine in ubers, I accidentally used a dark horse team who had approx 35.002%ish usage lol. So because of that I'd like to change my laddering alt from not haruno to haruno sux.

Notes on Terrakion's set

I am using Scarf Terrakion exclusively for Charizard and Talonflame. It appears that most opponents don't expect any Scarfers in doubles, which lets MegazardYs be easy prey for Terrakion. Poison Jab is a good move for Fairies, and if a target gets Poisoned, it increases the rate at which residual damage is applied in addition to the sandstorm that Tyranitar summons.

Notes on handling Mega Kangaskhan

With a fairly fast team, opposing Mega Kangaskhans are rather reliant on Sucker Punch. Chesnaught can take Mega-Kangaskhan head on with STAB Hammer Arm. To help alleviate having my Pokemon get picked off by Sucker Punch, Chesnaught runs the unexpected Quick Guard so the Sucker Punch fails, and then the target can try to pick off Mega Kangaskhan.

Notes on Salamence's set

Although most people opt to use Salamence as an all-out attacker, I prefer to let other Pokemon do that and thus I delegate Salamence to a more defensive role, softening the blows of physical attacks and supporting the team, specifically Tyranitar, with Tailwind. It also gets an excellent spread move in Heat Wave and allows Salamence to lure in and KO Scizor so Tyranitar can go on its rampage with one of its major checks removed from the game. Dragon Pulse is also a very good STAB move that has excellent coverage with Heat Wave.

Explorer: i fixed the rankings. Also, I'm exceptionally curious about scarf terrak to beat Zard-Y and Talonflame. Zard-Y is naturally slower, and Talonflame hits you with BB if anything at all, which is priority anyway. Don't you think you'd be better off with something else?

Honestly, Terrakion might be my MVP because of how well it handles Charizard-Y. Most opponents think the partner can outspeed and OHKO Terrakion, but unless it is also using a Scarf (which it probably isn't), then the opponent is lulled into a false sense of security, Charizard-Y is dead, and Tyranitar can enter and set up sand. The only time where I need to be careful is with Fake Out/Protect, in which case I'll probably switch Terrakion out. In addition to incredible power and speed, Terrakion also has two spread moves, one of which has a 30% flinch rate per target (I've gotten a lot of flinch hax with Rock Slide spam). Finally, Poison Jab is a nice surprise for Fairy-types--often a Poison Jab plus a teammate's attack (Iron Tail Landorus anyone?) will KO the fairy before it can react.

OK I used omahaha, which is an alt I made while testing for the Omaha tournament but just decided to use now for dark horse too. Though I didn't reserve the alt ahead of time, I guarantee all battles were fresh and with this team. I was talking on irc about it as I made it and as I laddered it up to 1454.
