DP Glaceon (counters)

I've noticed that most of the counters in Glaceon's counters section are OU, which doesn't make much sense considering Glaceon is UU, so I've rewritten the counters section to include more UU counters.

[Counters]

Politoed resists Ice Beam, has great Special Defense, and isn't weak to any other move. It can Haze away Fake Tear drops, force it out with Perish Song, cripple it with Hypnosis, or damage it with Focus Blast. Lanturn works similarly, though it can't do a whole lot in turn. STAB Surfs or Thunderbolts might hurt Glaceon a bit, but nothing that can't be stalled out with Wishes, if Lanturn lacks Choice Specs. Thunder Wave and Confuse Ray both annoy Glaceon, but doesn't hinder it in any serious way. Blastoise switches in just as easily and can force it out with a Yawn.

Thanks to Thick Fat, Grumpig resists Ice Beam and Hidden Power Fighting, but Fake Tears hinders its Calm Minding capabilities, and Choice Specs Shadow Balls put a dent into Grumpig's hide. Hypno, the standard special wall of UU, performs worse; he loses a stall war with Glaceon as Glaceon also gets Wish and can lower Hypno's Special Defense to the point where Ice Beam is nearly a OHKO.

Golduck resists Ice Beam and can Calm Mind against Choice Specs Glaceon, but good luck against Fake Tears versions. Lapras, Walrein, and Dewgong all 4x resist Ice Beam, but lose to Hidden Power Fighting. If Crawdaunt can switch in on an Ice Beam, it can threaten a OHKO on Glaceon with Choice Banded Superpower. Poliwrath performs in a similar fashion. Torkoal and Magcargo both resist Ice Beam and severely threaten Glaceon with STAB Fire attacks. Froslass beats all sets that lack Shadow Ball.

Want to add in that Quagsire can succesfully counter as it has access to haze, takes neutral damage from all of glaceons attacks, and can threaten it with toxic or subpunching or stone edge.

This would be true if Glaceon couldnt 2HKO Quagsire, but unfortunately Choice Specs Glaceon does that job quite well with a minimum of 61% to a Max HP, Max Sdef Quagsire.

Poliwrath makes a decent glaceon counter having good special defense and HP and resistance to its stab and HP fire and not taking too much from its other attacks while it can hammer away with stab SE brick breaks or put it to sleep with hypnosis

eh if we're putting 'if it fake tears' for everything, then technically we can't list blissey as a counter in ou to that or anything else that learns fake tears =/

p.s. grumpig can always sub, which is standard, which means no fake tears

Why not? Fake Tears is listed as a standard set. Glaceon does indeed win in stall wars against Hypno with Fake Tears, because Hypno can't do much back while Glaceon Fake Tears, recovers with Wish, and hammers with Ice Beam.

And Grumpig has to switch in, doesn't it?

Well, I guess you would have to switch in on the Ice Beam after the fake tears, and THEN put up a substitute, wouldn't you? It probably won't fake tears twice in a row : /

EDIT: Wow, crawdaunt can switch in and OHKO... I can't believe it : O

Does the Fake Tears really see that much use in UU play?

To be honest the only Glaceon's I have come across have been Specs'd.

Torkoal and Magcargo both resist Ice Beam and severely threaten Glaceon with STAB Fire attacks.
What about Ninetales? It has better special defence, and is faster than both of your current fire type counters ...

You wouldn't even need Fake Tears considering Shadow Ball is available and a good move for coverage. Not to mention Hypno besides being able to pack Hypnosis its also faster than Glaceon. Glaceon can't win in a stall war unless its packing Shadowball, you're not recovering anything when you're asleep.

Grumpig has to switch in and again, Shadowball would do a better job against it than Fake Tears. But in this case although its faster it doesn't pack a sleep move and Glaceon can easily Roar it out if it Subs. Grumpig is only viable as a counter against the Specs set where a misplaced Ice Beam stops you in your tracks.

Anyway as mentioned, Ninetales is as solid a Glaceon counter as you'll ever get. Maybe any of the Hitmon's too who can come in relatively safely and threaten with any of their upteen super effective moves.

Focus Bomb should be Focus Blast and just because Magcargo resists Ice moves still doesn't make it a good counter. It only has 80 base SDef and base 50 HP, not to mention weakness to HP Fighting.

It's worth mentioning that for Fake Tears variants your best bet is to check to see which of Hidden Power and Shadow Ball it lacks, and send out an appropriate counter.

Golduck can switch in, Sub against Fake Tears and/or use Calm Mind and threaten to 2HKO Glaceon. Its trait also allows it to stop Glaceon abusing 100% accurate Blizzards in Hail.
