Arena
Bolt Beach
A 120 * 100 * 100 Room, Bolt Beach is an artificial haven. Above the arena is a glass dome, where spetators watch, whilst trainers have podiums to issue commands from elevated podiums at opposite ends of the arena. Bolt Beach is mainly a bright yellow sand, and a dark yellow water. There are a few palm trees, although they give off a slight green glow.

Features:

- Electricity in the sand means that electric types all learn Charge, and the effect lasts for 9 actions.
- The sand reduces the BP of Seismic attacks by 1, and lower's dig's priority on tunneling down to -0.5.
- Attacks which require natural sunlight cannot work.
- Attacks which cannot work in an artificial environment do work, but paralyse the user 5% of the time as if hit by Thunder Wave, since the "Nature" is electric.
- Nature Power is treated as Shock Wave.
- There is a constant rainfall in the arena, which cannot be changed.
- Mud Sport is washed away at the end of each round..

Well would you look at this, a real challenger has wandered onto Bolt Beach. This match should be a lot more exciting than the last time I was here. Its coinflip time first though. A heads says the leader sends out first while tails means that IAR has to commit himself early. Lets see how it lands.

The gym leader of Bolt Beach is once again forced to act first in one of these challenges, and he goes with what appears to be his catch all mon in Nimbus the Cyclohm. Nimbus looks none too happy to be staring down the barrel of an all Ground typed team and Its_A_Random quickly responds with his own favourite, Sleast the Gastrodon. As IAR makes his choice a small smile begins to develop on dogfish's face which is puzzling considering the large hollow he appears to find himself in.

Nimbus looks to have come into this one armed with a plan and step one is reducing the damage output from Sleast's largely special arsenal. A Light Screen quickly does this and greatly reduces the damage from the snails incoming Earth Power. Mind you it still hurt quite a bit. Slease follows this up with a Mud Bomb for similar solid if unspectacular damage but suddenly Nimbus surprises Pokemon and trainer alike with a Whirlwind! Looks like it sure can come in handy to know both kinds of phazing move and Nimbus appears set to have a somewhat more manageable opponent for the next round. The cloud-mon rounds us out with a Dragon Pulse to send Sleast back into it's ball with a couple of scratches but the Gastrodon does manage to fire off one more Earth Power before temporarily exiting the match.

Suddenly with the choice taken out of his hands another Pokeball flies from ASB's Ground Gym Leader's belt and suddenly the behemoth they call Megawhal the Colossoil is taking up most of Bolt Beach! Lets hope Nimbus and dogfish still know what they're doing.

Sleast did a little more damage then, I'll edit it in after work tonight but it shouldn't change any actions so carry on without my update for now.

RAIN (INF)

After everyone plays a lot of switching games we end up having Murena the Eelektross and Iron Chain the Steelix face off for this second round. The real lesson we all learned: IAR has lots of Expert Belts. Nevertheless Murena begins the round with what I'm sure she thinks is a cunning plan to remove some of Iron Chain's main strengths.. but unfortunately she forgot that he's a Steel type and Poison can't do a thing to him that makes absolutely no difference! Looks like Steelix keepslooses his abilities. The Chain responds with a Sand Tomb that actually does some quite useful damage despite it's low BAP, and the residual damage from the continued entrapment works very nicely to counteract the Leftovers the eel is chomping on.

Quickly shaking off the failed plan Murena uses Steelix's own massive weight against him and trips him up with a Grass Knot. She even manages to avoid the pitfalls of using such a move on Bolt Beach. Iron Chain responds with some ridiculously high base power of his own, and thanks to without his Rock Head the usual recoil associated with Double Edge actually hurts the iron snake. This is starting to look like a very solid round for the challenger.

Iron Chain ends us with another Sand Tomb, refreshing the trapping effect on the eel and making sure she is staying put in this match for now. Murena does respond with something quite possibly insane however.. a Hyper Beam laced Flamethrower! The rain pelting down on the beach somewhat reduces the damage of the move but the fact that the smallest of changes has kicked in and left Iron Chain burned possibly makes it all worthwhile. Of course Murena is now a sitting duck...

I think we call that round a push and wait patiently to see what these two highly competent battlers have in store for us. This is what a Gym battle should be folks.

RAIN (INF)

With Murena still being forced to rest up from her combination Iron Chain takes the opportunity to start Resting and regaining some health and vitality. The real bonus here is that it doubles to completely cure his burn. Unfortunately the results aren't all positive as the sleeping snake definitely can't keep that Sand Tomb up.

Action two may see the eel finished cooling down but the combo was so exhausting that she stills finds herself sluggish and relegated to weaker attacks. With this in mind she goes back to her poisonous arsenal with some Acid. Not only is the move able to bypass Steelix's usual immunity it makes sure any future poisonous attacks for the near future will be able to do the same. Of course courtesy of the other half of his typing Iron Chain does still resist the move... Oh and by the way, if you though you would be safe sitting across from the sleeping snake then you were definitely mistaken. Iron Chain makes use of some Sleep Talk to hit Murena with a Smack Down that removes her main advanage. This eel won't be levitating for now..

Finally recovered from what may have been a very average combination choice Murena fires off another Grass Knot for just not quite enough damage to wake the giant up. Thankfully another round of Sleep Talk picks out the weakest move from the available choices and Iron Chain has a dream about a Sand Tomb while dumping one on Murena.

That may have been another less than ideal round for the leader, it's not generally not a great result when you're opponent gains health while still damaging you...

The inevitable is coming for poor Murena but the Leader is doing all he can to prolong her time in this match. The Eelektross starts off by making herself really Attractive to Iron Chain in the hopes that it will prevent him from bludgeoning her further. Unfortunately it doesn't quite come off initially and instead the Steelix rocks Murena and in fact the whole beach with one hell of an Earthquake! IAR has clearly been wanting to do that for a while and his face lights up after seeing it come off.

Murena again looks to have something more tactical than damaging in mind for action two, but unfortunately this plays into her downfall. After once again shaking off his attraction Iron Chain is able to take full advantage of this chance to act out of speed order and another Sand Tomb knocks Murena square out of this match! Man he got a lot of mileage about that rarely used move.

With that the challenger goes up 1-0 in thie Gym Challenge and sures up the advantage in his favour. And in case we were wondering it does appear that massive steel snake > floating electric eel.

Nimbus rocks back onto the field knowing that he brings the super effective goods. Unfortunately Iron Chain also knows this and he kicks off the round by beating the Cyclohm to the punch with that old staple of Gen 1 mons.. Bide! The Steelix starts glowing bright and absorbing all the energy coming at him. Surf and then Weather Ball both do some pretty huge damage but before Nimbus can get in that third and most important hit Iron Chain reflects it all back near twofold and the ensuing blast ends up taking both active Pokemon out of the match! The Leader earns a KO but it also means that his final Pokemon now has to face off against more or less two completely healthy oponenents. Lets see what he can pull out of the hat..

IF (Damaging Water combo) is issued, THEN use Substitute (15 HP) on the combo, AND use Earthquake on the cooldown action. This substitution supersedes all other substitutions.
IF Dive is issued, THEN use Earthquake that action.

With fresh mons on the field dogfish looks to start a fresh. Things don't look positive when Megawhal uses that slight speed advantage to Bounce high up into the air above Bolt Beach. Formula the Krilowatt looks to have something up his sleave though as he becomes a Copycat and Bounces up himself. Unfortunately it seems he forgot that copying a move in such a way plays with all the priorities and he ends up crashing back to the ground while the Colossoil is still high in the air! A dejected Formula has his day futher ruined by having the massive beast land on him seconds after. At least he resists the blow I guess.

Formula is taking no chances at all in the middle of the round and he swiftly Detects the second incoming Bounce and watches the energy cost build up on IAR. Unfortunately action three sees him trying the same trick as the beginning of the round and unfortunately failing once again. To rub salt into a fresh wound Megawhal's third Bounce even paralyzed the poor little shrimp. Things are going from bad to worse for dogfish in this one, but mercifully at least it might be almost over.

Copycat: The Pokemon thinks about the last attack and repeats it exactly, duplicating the attack, but letting you choose a new target for the move. This move will fail if Copycat is the first move used in the battle, the last used move was Copycat, or the attack requires more energy than the user has. Charge-up actions and priority are ignored for a move copied by Copycat; all of its effects execute immediately when Copycat is used. (eg. If Copycat copies Revenge, it executes immediately. Likewise, if it copies Sky Attack, both the charge and the damage happen at once, and thus the move cannot be stopped by multi-hit attacks)
The large bolded section is kind of pertanent to this match. The below interpretation was confirmed as correct by Deck.

Action 1
Megawhal: Megawhal bounced up into the air!
Formula: Copycat > Formula bounced up into the air! > Bounce > The attack missed! [11 EN]
Megawhal: Bounce > PARA [<=300] 867/1000: NO > (11 + (5-3)*1.5)*0.67 = 9.38 [9.38 DMG] [12 EN]

Action 2
Formula: Detect > Formula detected incoming blows! [11 EN]
Megawhal: Megawhal bounced up into the air!
Megawhal: Bounce > (11 + (5-3)*1.5)*0.67 = 9.38 > Formula detected the blow! [16 EN]

Action 3
Megawhal: Megawhal bounced up into the air!
Formula: Copycat > Formula bounced up into the air! > Bounce > The attack missed! [11 EN]
Megawhal: Bounce > PARA [<=300] 132/1000: YES > (11 + (5-3)*1.5)*0.67 = 9.38 > Formula was paralyzed (20%)! [9.38 DMG] [20 EN]
