*Padded Paw(Desvega): If a Pokémon with this Ability uses a damaging move or is targeted by a damaging move, the effects of the environment are ignored during execution as well as damage and accuracy calculation. *Upper Hand(Paldea): Fighting | Physical | 80BP | 100% | 5PP | Contact | If the target is about to use a move with increased priority, the user will strike first and always make the target to flinch, unless the target is immune to flinching; otherwise, Upper Hand will fail. Has +3 priority. Throughout certain quarries in Desvega, puddles of tar seep up from the ground which can be inspected to obtain certain items. Rarely, you may find a strange feather from a long-extinct Pokémon, though since you can't remove it from the tar, you'll have to collect the tar itself. Gather enough of these Tarred Feathers, and they will disappear all at once from your inventory, but you will automatically receive a Tarry Plume, which you can resurrect in the lab to get...
The Bitumen Pokémon
Name Origin: Tarmac + Teratorn
Type: Rock/Fire
Abilities: Thermal Lift*
When the Pokémon uses a Fire-type attack or a move that can inflict a burn, it changes into its Ignited form. It returns to its Smoldering form upon taking super-effective damage.
At the start of a match, Tarmatorn will be in its Smoldering Form, which reduces any incoming damage from contact moves by 50%. When in its Ignited Form, Tarmatorn is immune to Ground-type moves, but receives no incoming damage cut. If it switches out when in its Ignited form and switches back in, it will be in its Smoldering Form.

Counterpart: Titanodon
Type: Rock / Dragon
Stats: 87 HP / 150 Atk / 60 Def / 80 Sp.Atk / 50 Sp.Def / 68 Speed (495 BST)

Accuracy: 100
PP: 5
Effect: Bypasses Protect, Detect, Spiky Shield, etc. when dealing damage. Makes contact.

Competitive Use: With Solid Rock and its high defensive stats, it is very difficult to immediately take down. Can be used as a very slow set-up sweeper with Curse, or it can set up entry hazards. I dropped the rock-type on Titanodon because I don't think it is fair for them to both be Rock + Dragon, and this is a better type combo.
*Shieldon and Bastiodon gain Solid Rock in Ability 2 slot as well.
Type: Steel
Category: Status
Power: --
Accuracy: --
PP: 5
Effect: The user Protects itself from damage. If an opposing Pokemon hits it, the user recovers 1/4th HP. Moves that bypass Protection prevent this effect from activating and this move can fail if used repeatedly in succession (1/1, 1/3, 1/9, 1/27, etc. like Protect)

Before I let Samtendo retake the stage, I'll take the opportunity to point out some immediate issues, both competitive and flavour-wise:
  • Falchion: Aerial Ace is already boosted by Sharpness, and while the change for Stone Edge to be a cutting move can be permitted, I'll like you to give an explanation why for curiosity's sake, since you also gave it Stone Axe and a new move in Diamond Cutter, both of which are also boosted by Sharpness; also note that Gen X operates in a regional Pokedex format: as such, some of the parents you listed for egg moves may or may not be accessible, depending on the results of the regional dex slate.
  • anaconja: Your fossil counterpart pair will require a name to be considered valid.
  • Sharpen42: Not an issue per say, but Venom Mist on paper sounds like a worse Poison Gas, the former poisoning everyone on the field and having 5 PP in contrast to the latter only poisoning all opposing Pokemon and having 40 PP.
  • Emergence: Tornaeris looks like Garganacl on steroids, with its HA Patience in particular doubling its defensive stats, which will almost always take effect considering its Base 60 speed. Either reduce some of its bulk or change its HA to something less defensive-focused.
  • LOrd Fernando: Crocodune will require a list of notable moves to be considered valid; in addition, Torrent is an Ability found solely on Starter Pokemon (The Elemental Monkeys are considered a group of Starter-like Pokemon), so I'll like you to change it to something else.
  • Dilasc: For clarity's sake, I'll like you to list exactly how much HP the Ability Sauna recovers, for both burns and/or Fire-Type moves.

The flavor for Stone Edge in Scarlet/Violet is as follows: "The user stabs the target with sharpened stones. This move has a heightened chance of landing a critical hit." This secondary effect is the same as Air Cutter which is classed as a slicing move, so I felt it'd make sense to class Stone Edge as such, too. That being said, since the previous version of "Diamond Cutter" was essentially a worse Stone Edge despite being learned by Shonisawrd instead of Gladichthus, I decided to switch the two around, nerf the new move, and rename it to "Flint Cutter" - which is now a physical Rock-type clone of the aforementioned Air Cutter. I figured it'd make sense to have a sequence of cutting Rock-type moves that increase in power, from Flint Cutter to Stone Axe to Stone Edge, to suit the flavor I had in mind for this line.

Emergence: Cavalequus looks like Garganacl on steroids, with its HA Patience in particular doubling its defensive stats, which will almost always take effect considering its Base 60 speed. Either reduce some of its bulk or change its HA to something less defensive-focused.
That would be the Tornaeris line, I've changed it to a useless flavor ability, given the combination of Keen Eye removing hazard damage, Salt Cure, and reliable recovery is already very strong.

Apologies everyone, but internet issues as well as time zone differences have caused a delay.

That said, the only veto that is still in effect (even taking into account the delay) is Anaconja's fossil pair counterpart, so without further ado and in a slight break of Gen X tradition, allow me to begin the Voting Phase!

As Sam mentioned, this will be a ranked vote. You can vote for up to five submissions, with each sub receiving points based on what order you put them in. If you vote for less than five, the amount of points that the top vote gets is equal to the number of votes you did and it goes down by one from there. Only the fossil(s) with the highest amount of votes will be welcomed into Desvega.
Self-votes are limited to one per user and permitted only if you have voted for at least another user’s submission; counterparts, as usual, must be voted together.
As a reminder, here's an example vote:

Fossil A (User Name) - Gets 5 points
Fossil B (User Name)- Gets 4 points (SVs can only be this or lower)
Fossil C1 & Fossil C2 (User Name) - Gets 3 points (How counterpart votes should be formatted)
Fossil D (User Name) - Gets 2 points
Fossil E (User Name) - Gets 1 point

This phase lasts for 48 hours not days lol, with a 24 hour warning by Samtendo09 tomorrow.

Originally, there was a bit of a tie, and while the council was deliberating whether we could let both in one of the subbers made an offering to Janutcher, who broke its oath and intervened...

Your Desvegan Fossils shall be Jesizard, Ficovore and Waspinger, discovered by Sharpen42!

Jesizard, Ficovore, Waspinger lines (Sharpen42) 5 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 5 + 5 = 27

Discussion phase for the winners (and what would be needed) will last for 24 hours or less; depending on when our tiebreaker Beebos gives their review because, let's be honest, they're the only ones who still contribute to these discussions lol. According to our road map, we should be having either a Free slate or perhaps our Gift slate, so start prepping your next subs!
Also, following a complaint from our coder anaconja, to everyone who still hasn't provided a full movepool, please also include a section containing every single move learnable by your winning sub, as with an example from Stone Bold here:

long day at job

i will snipe beebos

ficozard: very mediocre rain abuser. no water stab, no (good) setup, both stabs have immunities so it makes for a bad choice user especially with no pivoting
vespicus: mediocre wall. sap is nice i guess but bug poison is a mid if not outright bad defensive typing which with terrible offenses makes for a very passive mon who can be forced out and setup on or just setup on. its speed isnt even that high
laganeura: mediocre stallbreaker. broken custom might take it places but when its so easily walled by steels i dont see it going anywhere

Uncalled for... but I do agree with what ana said about the winners. They all suffer from an unideal typing, stat spread, movepool, etc.

Ficozard is indeed a mediocre rain sweeper, where although it at least has Water-type moves (and some p good ones at that) to use in rain and to hit pesky steels neutrally, those moves aren't STAB. Outside of rain this mon is even worse, with lackluster stats and pretty much no good boosting moves to compensate for it. Ficozard does have the least bad typing of the three, but is still walled pretty hard by steels.

Vespicus at least has some decent enough moves for its job, with stuff like Toxic, Strength Sap, and Stealth Rock, but that's basically all this mon has going for it. Like ana said, Bug/Poison is a pretty dogshit typing for a fat mon (same reason I initially thought Vampinae would be trash, but that guy has strong jaw stab leech life so idfk), and it's pretty easy setup fodder. Also base 70 SpAtk, his ass is NOT a sweeper, I don't care if it has sidegrade nplot

Laganeura is easily the best of the three, though that isn't saying much - signature is indeed cracked, but with a lot of 'ifs', because barring any support from teammates its only method of poisoning foes is with Twineedle (ok buddy), and when we already have mons like Auruangeles and Amphabulous that can hardwall its STABs, I don't really see this being good in high-tier play. Best it can do is be a really mediocre band/scarf mon.
Ficozard: give it Fishious Rend Assuming the typing goes unchanged, I think Ficozard can have a more valuable/interesting role on rain teams as a pivot rather than a sweeper, since it resists both of Water's weaknesses. This can include replacing Swift Swim with Dry Skin for respectable recovery while Rain is up and/or adding Flip Turn for a pivot move that is also boosted by rain. For non-rain sets, maybe give it Poison Touch as a HA to make it a better poison spreader, and/or Dragon Dance for an actual setup option.

Vespicus: It'd probably be best to change this mon's type to something like Grass/Poison, even if it goes against the flavor of the trio, not just because Bug/Poison is bad defensively but we already have two bulky bugs in Permiplaneta and Vampinae. Also fast walls never really work out well in practice so I'd suggest gutting that Speed stat down to at least 50 and redistributing those points somewhere that Vespicus needs such as bulk or SpAtk.

Laganeura: Rather than a move that haxes poisoned enemies to death, Laganeura can have Merciless as a HA to strengthen all its moves against Poisoned foes - that would give it some value on Poison Terrain teams since the Bug typing gives it immunity to the chip damage and also a valuable ground resist for its teammates. Gaining Toxic would also be a big help as a reliable way of setting up that Merciless boost independently. Other than that, maybe optimize the stat spread a little and make sure it gets Dragon Rush for the funny synergy w/ Compund Eyes.

full movepools for my mons will come soon I promise

Hate to break it to you but Leech Life isn’t classed as a biting move. That removed a niche for Vampinae you were hoping for. We can make Leech Life a biting move for this Pet Mod, but only if the others wouldn’t mind. Otherwise I’ll have to provide a different buff for Vampinae to make up for it’s Bug/Poison typing.

I def agree with you and Ana regarding the winners, so expect similar buffs when possible.

Now, onto the next slate.

Slate 12 - Free + Knightmare Slate: Freedom in the Kingdom
:sv/maushold::sv/electivire::sv/sirfetch’d::sv/toedscruel:
:sv/pawniard::sv/bisharp::sv/kingambit:

A free-for-all slate with almost anything allowed for this slate. This allows for bigger variety of Pokémon within a region.

And to make things a little more interesting, we would want to fix a little something. Loria introduces Knightmare as Pawniard’s alternative evolution… but Scarlet + Violet unexpectedly introduces us Kingambit, Bisharp’s evolution. This can leave an awkward situation if, during the PokéDex slate, one would nominate both the Pawniard line and the Knightmare evolution, and so this slate can serve as a way to bridge the gap between Bisharp and Knightmare shall one to nominate the latter for the PokéDex slate.

Here’s the Rules
- This is a true free slate, thus you can submit any Pokémon with the exceptions below.
— What aren’t allowed are starters, legendaries, fossils, Pika-Clones and pseudo-legendaries; the latter will be at a later slate.
— That said, a regional form with preferably a type other than Electric (and with or without evolution), new Baby or new evolution for already existing Pika-Clones (including those from Brazdo and Loria) are allowed.
- You may sub up to 5 unique evolutionary lines of Pokemon. These lines can include split evolutions.
- There is no hard BST limit for this slate, though you should stay reasonable unless you have a good flavor justification like Slaking.
- As for what's typical for a standard Pokémon, final evolutions tend to peak around the 520-530 range, sometimes going into the 540s for stuff like cross gen evolutions or Gyarados. Florges and Arcanine are the only two non-flavor exceptions to this, being over 550, with the others (Slaking and Archeops) having flavor reasons. Standalone Pokémon tend to stay below 500, especially for early-to-midgame mons, though there are a lot of exceptions for later game mons like Duraludon or Dhelmise.
- Pokémon that live in aquatic places are usually Water-type, but you can be flexible with it.
- You can sub regional forms, convergents and cross-gen evolutions + babies for this slate.
- During voting slate, order will not matter for this one.

Knightmare Evolution Rules
- The BST must be 550, matching Kingambit’s own BST.
- You may change one of the type, but it must be either Dark or Steel.
- Try and avoid using a stat distribution too similar to Kingambit.
- Kingambit have a signature Ability and a signature Move; you may want to give either or both for the Knightmare evolution as well. Try not make it something that could dominate OU in the wrong way, as we saw with Kingambit’s Supreme Overlord thanks to Sucker Punch.
- While not stirctly a rule, you’d want to base the evolution of either a Rook or a Queen, preferably the latter. A mix of both would also work conceptually, but must be handled delicately as to not make it too on-the-nose.
- Only one Kightmare evolution submission wins, so the voting phase will involve “order matters”.

As usual, the submission lasts for six days. Good luck!

P.S. Here’s a link for Loria spreadsheet, this is you will find Knightmare in the New Pokémon page.

Original Species: Mimikyu (Evo - Level up Mimikyu while holding Light Ball)
Type: Ghost/Fairy
Ability: Illusion
Base Stats: 75/110/75/60/110/106 (536)
Notable Moves: Mimikyu's movepool + Poltergeist, Spirit Break, Knock Off, Nuzzle, Shock Tail, Wild Charge, Bush Claws, Bounce, Snarl, Volt Switch, Surf.
Height + Weight: 0.5m + 3.5kg
Flavor/Design: Mimikyu's rag has been ripped, the drawn-on eyes and smile slashed apart while the ear tips are torn, with shadowy vapours pouring out. Its head has also been decapitated, connected by a thin shadowy appendage to the body, which has a patch around where Mimikyu's true face used to be, while two of Mimikyu's black claw-like appendages extend from beneath, serving as makeshift 'feet' that help it hop around while its wooden 'tail' has become more axe-like; this evolution of Mimikyu is said to be a consequence of Pikachat not appreciating the former's loyalty in their admiration of Pikachu, and have ruined their beloved costumes they wear and treasure beyond repair in spite. No longer able to properly disguise itself, Mockyu have thus learnt to project illusions to help protect their friends.
Original Species: Charcadet (Evo - Level up Charcadet with low friendship)

Height + Weight: 1.2 m + 21 kg
Flavour/Design: This Charcadet decided it didn't need armor to evolve, it could do so with the power of friendship! Or...the power of apathy, as it turned out. On one hand, it's not as strong as its armoured counterparts, though on the other, it's a lot faster and has an advantage against them. Everything has a price, what's yours?

Flavour/Design: The evil team in Desvega took a page out of Team Rocket's book and rigged their casinos, going one step further to install special motors so that their specially trained Rotoms will rob patrons of their savings.
Potenital Competitive Role: Defensive Wall that could maybe compete with Rotom-Wash.
Original Species: Knightmare (Evo) [Level up while holding Leader's Crest at night]
Name: Archbisharp [Archbishop + bisharp + Archangel]
Counterpart: Kingambit
Type: Fairy/Steel
Ability: Ambitious*/Mirror Armor/Pressure
Base Stats: 85/115/85/50/85/130 (550)
Notable Moves: Knightmare's movepool (which is the same as Bisharp's, apparently) + Spirit Break, Steel Wing, Earthquake, Drain Punch, Body Press, Megahorn, Dual Wingbeat, Acrobatics, Wild Charge, Dazzling Gleam, Earth Power, Thunder, Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, Surf.
Height + Weight: 2.1 m + 210.0 kg
Flavour + Design: It was in Loria that Pawniard were discovered to to evolve into Knightmare after being traded while holding a Metal Coat, presumably from those cowardly few whose blades were damaged beyond use. Known to gallop throughout the darkness to terrify the weak and challenge the strong, there are sightings of wild Bisharp leading packs of Pawniard on the the backs of Knightmare into battle, a display of power that often leaves prey frozen with fear. (RedwoodRogue was not particularly mindful of world building, so this is my attempt to help fill in the blanks.)

In Desvega, there have been reports of Knightmares being abducted going missing, only to return as Archbisharp, with bladed wings, a glaive-like horn comparable to Kingambit's, and plated vambraces in place of their retractable blades. Upon closer inspection, it would seem that its new appendages were forged directly onto its body, this perhaps being the reason why they avoid secluded places, particularly the territories of Bisharp, always watching over their backs in fear of Janutcher something, ready to strike back at the slightest sensation of being observed. Of worth to note is that Archbisharp, curiously, have an mutual hatred against the Pokemon known as Epithelk and Elkrosis, perhaps knowing that they are tainted by Arcogniton and blaming them for their predicament for reasons no one is sure why.
Perhaps a higher power had intervened, with poor results...?

While the most common chess pieces are the Pawn, Rook, Bishop, Knight, King and Queen, there are also variation chess pieces, also known as Fairy chess pieces. The Vizar - also known as the Cardinal, the Janus Hey, isn't Janutcher also named by this? and the Archbishop - is a variant piece that combines both the capabilities of the knight and the bishop. Why did I go this route? Because, as it turns out, the Knightmare is also the name of a Fairy chess piece, better known as the nightrider, so that's the logical promotion.
*Ambitious (Loria): The Pokemon's Speed is boosted by two stages for every stat that is lowered by an opponent.
*Leader's Crest (Paldea): Raises the critical hit ratio of the holder by one stage and grants all its attacking moves that do not already have a chance to flinch a 10% chance of causing each target to flinch. [Effects of Razor Claw + Razor Fang]

wtf gamefreak

Honestly though, it would probably be ok to make Leech Life a biting move. I don't think any other Strong Jaw mons get it and giving Vampinae such a strong draining move helps overcome the anti-synergy between its Bug/Poison type and bulky attacker statline.

The Rotten Tooth Pokémon
Each of its fangs contains a poisonous gland in its core. The poison eats away at the hard outside of its fangs, which is painful to it.
Its small size belies a potent venom which dissolves flesh and stinks like curdled milk. Its bright colors warn of its dangerous nature.

Notable Egg Moves: Mud Bomb from Arbok; Confuse Ray and Perish Song from Lapras; Parabolic Charge from Heliolisk; Poison Tail from Dragalge or Seviper; Nasty Plot from Hydreigon; Poison Jab and Belch from Seviper (Monster and Dragon)

Flavor/Design:
This bipedal creature somewhat resembles Charmander, but with a more slender, serpentine body and a longer neck. With a height of 2 feet, 5 inches and a weight of 16 pounds, it has dark purple patterning around its shoulders and upper back resembling a leather vest, with matching dark purple bands around the elbows and knees, the mottled edging resembling the markings of a Gila monster, which this design is based on. Its long-snouted, somewhat Seviper-like head is magenta-colored with a mohawk-like, jagged-edged frill on the top of its head; bright red with a dark purple edge, it flares upward and forward as a threat display. Its lower body is also magenta, though the latter half of its tail is the same purple as the upper torso with an Ekans-like rattle on the end, except red-colored. It has three white claws on each hand and foot, and is able to go on four legs as well as two. There are two large fangs, white in color but tipped with dark purple like diseased teeth, protruding from the front of its upper jaw; two smaller but still sharp white fangs are also concealed near the front of the lower jaw. Its eyes are a vivid acid green with slitted pupils, with dark purple "eyeshadow" under them. Its broad, forked tongue is the same green color as the eyes. In the shiny sprite, the dark purple is replaced with black, the red with bright purple, the magenta with orange, and the green with yellow.

Gameplay Info:
Merciless to everybody and rotten to the core (of its teeth, that is), Detripile's specialty is debuffing opponents and giving them hell while they're vulnerable. Both of its abilities are associated with a status effect of some kind, with Merciless giving it some extra bite against opponents it's already poisoned, and Stench giving it a chance to flinch an opponent and shut down any attack they were preparing. Of course, the RNG and unreliability of flinching half the time means it's probably best to use Merciless, but with a rather high special attack for an unevolved Pokémon, it's able to make use of such dangerous Rock- and Poison-type moves as Meteor Beam, Sludge Bomb, and Venoshock, and to great effect. As coverage options, it also knows several Ground-type moves to take care of Steel-types such as Earth Power and a breedable Mud Bomb, and its relationship to Heliolisk gives it access to several Electric attacks to counter Water-types, while Dark Pulse and Signal Beam are useful against Psychic - but nothing in its repertoire is useful against Ground, leaving it vulnerable to Earthquake and such. It does get both Volt Switch and U-turn as escape options in case things get hairy, and some fun support stuff like Taunt, Thief, Quash, and the ever-useful Toxic, but there are faster Little Cup 'mons out there and if not for reliable team support, especially against Ground-types, a nasty toothache will soon be the least of Detriptile's problems.

Evolves at Level 35 into...

The Toxic Tooth Pokémon
While Detriptile used its poison for defense, its evolution employs it to attack. It injects its venom through the rotten holes in its teeth, but can also spray it over a considerable distance.
Due to the constant pain in its fangs, it has a brash, nasty attitude. When it spreads its frills to show off their vivid patterns, that means it's agitated and about to unleash a vicious assault.

Name Origin: Pernicious + Noxious
Type: Poison/Dark
Abilities: Merciless (HA Stench)
Stats: 60 HP/90 ATK/75 DEF/90 SP ATK/75 SP DEF/120 SPD = 510
Level-Up Moves: Same as Detriptile, but with added starting moves Glare, Astonish, and Toxic Shock, and added moves Cross Poison (51), Brutal Swing (55), and Belch (60).
Notable TMs: Same as Detriptile.

Flavor/Design:
Fully evolved, Pernoxious stands at 5 feet, 4 inches tall with a weight of 120 pounds, looking for all the world like a cross between a vintage theropod and a venomous serpent. It is normally bipedal, its spine mostly horizontal but with its long torso and the first half of its longer tail slanting slightly downward so its long, three-clawed, Charizard-like arms almost touch the ground, but it can either rear up 'til its back is nearly vertical, the better to aim its toxic spit, or drop down and slither on all fours to move faster, crawling along like the big lizard it is. Its long, slender neck is flexible and serpentine, normally held in an upright S-curve so its head is held high; said head resembles a cross between those of Seviper and Aerodactyl, with an overall shape like the former, albeit more elongated, and the lower jaw of the latter, saw-like fangs and all, though it isn't quite as deep and has a weaker bite force. The eyes are like Seviper's but positioned more towards the front of the face than the back. The back part of the head is a vivid acid-green, the front half is black (including around the eyes like a ski mask), and the lower jaw is maroon. It has two enormous long fangs near the front of its upper jaw, shaped like Walrein's tusks more than anything else, but as with the pre-evolution they have a gradient to black towards the ends, and near the tip of each is a hole with a green interior... which is the outlet for its foul, caustic venom which it sprays when using Sludge Bomb or other projectile poison attacks. It has three red teardrop-shaped spikes like a punk mohawk on the top of its head, increasing in size going towards the front, and on either side of the back of the head is a pair of membranous frills, normally folded flush against the neck and looking like a red side-stripe on each side, but capable of flaring out to a near-semicircular shape with jagged purplish black edges and a frightening pattern of several black eyespots with green centers; the slit-pupiled eyes and forked tongue are this same shade of green as well. A row of three more red spikes runs down the back of the torso (the frontmost being the longest as with the head), four more shorter spikes form a ring around a fleshy black "collar" at the base of its neck, and there is a matching arrowhead-shaped red sting at the tip of the Pokémon's tapering tail, which normally swoops low to the ground before turning gracefully upward in a second S-curve. The powerful back legs are bird-like with three clawed toes on its long, slender, digitigrade feet, whose black color all the way up to the ankle gives the impression of knee-high boots; the forearms and hands are also black to invoke leather gloves. The front half of its torso is black, and this and the spiked "collar" both invoke a punk leather jacket; this along with the "boots" and "gloves" are separated from the rest of the body color by bands of acid-green, with the hand and foot claws being white in color. The remaining body color is maroon, and on both the neck and tail are patterns of three bands, the outer two being green and the middle one being black; the end of the tail also has a green band and then a black one before ending with red and the dragon-like tail sting.

The shiny palette replaces the maroon with bright red, the red with purple, and the green with yellow, giving it an overall look like an eastern coral snake, which the patterning for this 'mon was inspired by.

Gameplay Info:
Gifted with more balanced offensive stats and a much-needed boost of speed, Pernoxious is now a swift and deadly predator, better built to capitalize upon its ability to spread debuffs and cause mass chaos. Though its Stench ability still has the potential to stop incoming attacks with a flinch status, it was previously noted to be unreliable, and so its best bet ability-wise is Merciless. Since its physical attack is now an even match with its special, strong physical attacks like Crunch, Brutal Swing, Gunk Shot, and Cross Poison are now at its disposal. Its increased speed also makes it far better at using status moves like Taunt, Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock, Encore, and especially Toxic, the latter of which works alongside Merciless to enable it to unleash a venomous assault on one unlucky target... so long as its prey isn't immune to poison status. Steel-types especially remain a problem as they can wall its Poison attacks while hitting it super-effectively, but they aren't too much of an issue now that it can make good use of Earthquake. Its biggest concern though, and its only type weakness, is Ground-types and, alas, it still has no means of taking them on and will be unable to use Volt Switch to flee from them, forcing it to rely on U-turn which is more easily resisted despite its own utility... that, and its general fraility means it'll probably go down to a single Earthquake anyway.

This line was originally based on the Uatchitodon, a late Triassic archosauriform reptile whose fossils were found in the United States, both in Virginia and in Arizona. I'm not sure if the latter is close enough to the states Desvega is based on but I probably shouldn't worry too much when we have a T. rex in France haha. In any case, Uatchitodon is only known from isolated teeth, and notably there was a groove in them that was similar to that of venomous lizards like the Gila monster, which led to the hypothesis that this animal was venomous itself, making it the earliest venomous reptile known. I'm not sure how likely that is since no known archosaurs have a venomous bite, and many supposed pieces of evidence of venom from fossilized teeth and skulls have since been found to actually be deformities and fossilization artifacts anyway, but I figured it'd be fun to take a shot at a toxic saurian as the fossil land predator of the duo. Although this line didn't win the fossil slate, it was easy to repurpose it as something that can be found normally with a type change and make it into a straight Gila monster fakemon (since Gila monsters can be found in Nevada's Mojave desert), though the movie-monster-dinosaur influence with the evolution remains the same as noted below.

One other thing I've come to like about the Poison type more recently is that almost every two-stage Pokémon of this type embodies it in a different way, from venom to paint fumes to car exhaust, so to avoid a straight repeat of a venomous animal and to pay homage to the aforementioned idea of fossilized tooth deformities being mistaken for venom glands and grooves, I worked in a theme of tooth decay, as though these guys are literally weaponizing their own tooth diseases. The evolved form, meanwhile, is essentially a do-over of my very first art submission to the Create-A-Pokémon forum on Smogon, which was based on a mix of punk fashion and the famously inaccurate depiction of Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park, with a neck frill and venomous spit that are in no way based on any fossil evidence at all. To make this new version a little more distinct, I gave it a more snake-like look a la Vertigo from Primal Rage, seeing as this is an archosaur trying its damndest to be a squamate, and mixed in traits of a coral snake for the evolved form to add to the exotic factor. I'm really happy with this line, all in all, and if it manages to win, I hope it'll make a beautiful, but deadly addition to the Desvegan fakedex!

The original version of this design was previously submitted to the art subs for Create-A-Pokémon #21. Details here!

The Bitumen Pokémon
Smoldering Form:
A massive bird Pokémon that scavenges from tar pits, its feathers are covered in viscous slime. While this sticky mass is difficult to clean, it makes an effective barrier against the teeth and claws of its enemies.
It is one of the largest bird Pokémon ever to take to the air, but as long as its feathers are soaked with tar, it won't be able to get off the ground. It hates getting wet, though, and refuses to let itself be cleaned.

Ignited Form:
When it ignites the volatile compounds stored in its coat, it can create its own thermals and soar high into the sky. It was once heavily hunted for these same compounds, which were valued as a fuel source.
Its mighty wings cast the land in shadow as it hunts for prey from the air, gliding on the warm air currents its feathers produce. By igniting the tar covering its body, it can unleash devastating firestorms.

Name Origin: Tarmac + Condor
Type: Fire/Poison
Abilities: Thermal Lift*
When the Pokémon uses a Fire-type attack or a move that can inflict a burn, it changes into its Ignited form. It returns to its Smoldering form upon taking super-effective damage.

At the start of a match, Tarmacondor will be in its Smoldering Form, which reduces any incoming damage from contact moves by 50%. When in its Ignited Form, Tarmacondor is immune to Ground-type moves, but receives no incoming damage cut. If it switches out when in its Ignited form and switches back in, it will be in its Smoldering Form.

Flavor/Design:
A colossal bird Pokemon and perhaps one of the largest to have ever flown, Tarmacondor ironically spends much of its time on the ground, taking to the air only when necessary - its 8-foot-tall, 308-pound body is hard to get off the ground, after all. It relies on soaring flight thanks to the ability to create its own thermals by setting its tar-soaked plumage on fire, and flaps its gigantic wings only rarely to conserve energy; to attack, it simply drops down onto its prey or opponent like a fiery meteor, talons-first. Its overall appearance, apart from scale, is not unlike its cousin Braviary, though its head is much larger relative to the body and its neck is longer though still heavily muscled; like Mandibuzz, however, its neck and face are bald. If anything, it's like you took the neck and head of a terror bird the size of a T. rex and attached it to the body of an oversized eagle with a wingspan as wide as a personal aircraft. Its legs and feet are thick with muscle, resembling those of Tyrantrum more than any bird, but it retains four toes on each dark red-brown, scaly foot with one facing back and every single one of them bearing an enormous black claw. Its feathers are absolutely caked with thick, purplish-black tar, which forms a gloopy covering like Muk's body, though some of its burning feathers, which glow a vivid orange, stick out from the tar arbitrarily. The flight feathers on its wings and its fan-shaped tail are tar-free and have a luminous fiery pattern of bright yellow and red-orange, as though they were literally made of fire; the shape and patterning of these is akin to the wings of Galarian Moltres, though with more visible slotting like an eagle's wing. Meanwhile, the top of the head has a crest of thinner feathers soaked with oily tar which makes them a purplish gray and drooping with a sort of "wet cat" look, drooping over its head like emo hair to obscure its face. There is also a white, starburst-shaped feather ruff at the base of the neck with wispy points tipped with yellow, almost like a cartoon sun. If the head feathers are parted, the facial skin is dark gray as though charred by a cartoon explosion, though the skin of its neck and head is otherwise a pale red, and its fierce orange eyes are still visible with a fierce glare when not covered by the head feathers. Its massive bill, meanwhile, has the same red-brown color as the feet, though curiously it has a scaly texture to it like Archen's; its shape is like that of a tomahawk, the downcurved cutting edge at the front being black like the talons, flowing smoothly into the hooked tip of the beak - allowing it to use its head like a battle-ax to chop its prey into pieces small enough to swallow.

All of the above, of course, is for Tarmacondor's Smothered form; in this form, it remains on the ground with its wings raised and spread wide to intimidate opponents, its tar dripping from its body with a thick, pudding-like consistency. When it attacks with an ability that triggers Thermal Lift, however, it takes to the air as the tar ignites into flame, its entire covering now a glowing red-orange with trails of fire flowing from wherever the stray feathers were sticking out. The neck and head feathers light up with a gradient from yellow closest to the skin to orange near their ends and closer to the torso, and they now flow upwards instead of downward with a flame-like shape like the wings, as though its whole head is on fire; its face skin is also now pitch-black from the sheer heat, and its eyes blaze solid white. It will remain in this ignited state as long as it is airborne, above the reach of Ground-type attacks. Only a super-effective Water-, Psychic-, or Rock-type move can shake off enough tar to stifle its heat-producing ability and send it plummeting, though it can also return to the ground voluntarily by switching out and then re-entering battle.

Gameplay Info: The main gimmick with this big bird is its form-change ability, which works in a similar manner to Aegislash's Stance Change, though with a broader set of moves and with different effects instead of changing its stats. The most important thing about Thermal Lift is the two immunities its Ignited Form provides, no-selling one of its double-weaknesses but still leaving it vulnerable to three other types - in particular, its 4X weakness to Water remains. If you don't feel confident in the contact damage cut of the Smoldering Form, it's important to have it use a Fire-type attack and get off the ground as fast as possible. Aside from the standard Rock and Fire fare, alongside Tar Shot which can work well with its Fire STAB especially, it can also learn a bunch of Flying, Steel, Rock, and Ground-type attacks as coverage, but Solar Beam is arguably your best bet since it's the only Grass-type attack it can learn and thus its only answer to Water. Sun team support would be invaluable, though it can also learn Sunny Day itself to set up Solar Beam more freely, on top of boosting its own special attack to better make use of Solar Beam with Nasty Plot. Be aware though that Tarmacondor is not a good switch-in against Ground despite the boon of its Ignited From, because it will be in its Smoldering Form whenever it enters battle, even after switching out. Needless to say, moves that force a switch like Dragon Tail or Roar are an absolute nightmare to it, especially with entry hazards like Spikes or Stealth Rock active.

The original plan I had for this design was actually a mammoth stuck in a tar pit or covered in burning tar, since I had to homage the La Brea Tar Pits with at least one of my fossil subs. However, Desvegan Mamoswine already did the tar mammoth thing, so while I still wanted to use the tar motif I had to base it off a different Pleistocene animal. The final version of this submission during Slate 11 was a teratorn fused with the tar it got stuck in because almost all the megafaunal mammals had already been used in a previous winning sub or someone else's submission, and I'm a bird enjoyer anyway and wanted something special; for this slate, I changed it into a California condor so it still abides by the rules and is no longer a fossil. There isn't much of a deeper theme aside from that, though this design also works as a visual pun on the phrase "tarred and feathered".

The Hairy Calf Pokémon
From birth, the hair on its head grows wildly, quickly falling over its face and making it harder to see. It quickly learns to compensate with a strong sense of smell.
Its long head hair often gets tangled and dirty from many adventures. It is immensely proud of its hair, however, and stubbornly refuses to let it be cleaned or trimmed.

Name Origin: Calf + Coiffure
Type: Normal
Abilities: Fur Coat, Sap Sipper, Soundproof (Hidden)
Stats: 55 HP/70 ATK/55 DEF/20 SP ATK/55 SP DEF/45 SPD = 300
Removed Moves: Giga Impact
Replacement Moves: N/A
New TMs/Tutors: All Ice-type TMs

Flavor/Design:
There aren't any calf Pokémon in canon so far, so here's one to hopefully pass a couple of Ice-type coverage moves to Unovan Bouffalant. It's basically a light brown, stylized bison calf, but already with a pair of large curved horns on its head like an adult bison, albeit with one ring on each instead of two. Most notably, the hair on its head (which is held higher than in the case of Bouffalant) is a big messy brownish black mop that cascades down almost to the ground, covering its eyes with only its light brownish-gray snout visible; large nostrils (Quickdraw McGraw-style) are at the end of the snout to sniff out its surroundings. Light red-brown stains can be seen on the ends of its locks of hair like Mudsdale has, and leaves are also scattered throughout it, with tangled cowlicks also protruding from arbitrary locations. If its hair is parted, such as when tossing its head sideways in some of its hypothetical animations, simple black dots for eyes like Clefairy's can be seen within.

Gameplay Info:
I don't have any competitive info thoughts for this little scrunkly because I designed it as literally an afterthought to go with Desvegan Bouffalant below, though maybe in LC it could basically be "Smol Bouffalant" or something? One thing I did take note of though is that Boufallant has only two options to reliably punish Grass-types with despite its main draw being Sap Sipper - Poison Jab, which isn't useful against Steels, and Megahorn, which as a Bug-type move gets resisted by a lot more types than desirable. The addition of Ice Hammer and Triple Axel to this line's repertoire might hopefully give it some extra anti-Grass punch and better neutral coverage overall, though Rock- and Steel-types will likely still stop it cold if it isn't packing a Fighting-type attack as well.

Evolves into Bouffalant upon level-up while learning a recoil move. If it evolves in Desvega, regardless of original location, it will become...

The Crash Buffalo Pokémon
It is believed to have descended from an ancestor of Unovan Bouffalant that arrived in Desvega during the ice age. The bony shield on its head is hard as bedrock, allowing it to deliver a headbutt that can reduce tall trees to splinters.
When fossils of its huge, stalagmite-like horns were first found, they were thought to belong to a late-surviving dinosaur. These Bouffalant clash over territory by locking horns, each combatant trying to hurl the other into the distance.

Type: Normal/Rock
Abilities: Rock Head, Sap Sipper, Soundproof (Hidden)
Stats: 95 HP/130 ATK/125 DEF/40 SP ATK/45 SP DEF/55 SPD = 490
Removed Moves: Technically none, but move Revenge, Reversal, Throat Chop, and Giga Impact to TMs or egg moves as applicable.
Replacement Moves: Ancient Power, Stone Edge, Body Press, Head Smash
New TMs/Tutors: Knock Off

Flavor/Design:
An ancient variety of Bouffalant that first evolved (in the scientific sense) just before the last ice age, it is thought that the modern form of this Pokemon first arose when the global temperature dropped and the climate where it once lived became more temperate, resulting in it growing a thick coat of fur on its head to keep warm. Before then, though, its head was protected by a massive shield of bone, thick enough around the braincase especially that nothing in the world during its day could break through it. The head plate was in turn covered in a sheath of solid quartzite, one of the hardest natural stone types and a common find across the real-world U.S. This rocky aegis extended and flared outward around the back of its head to form a massive shield of solid stone, a light blue-gray in color with several darker gray, slightly wavy stripes like rock strata. The shield was shaped like a half-circle when seen from the front, and curves slightly backward like a very wide, inverted, and incomplete cone of shame; smaller off-white spikes - which on further inspection are actually fossilized shells - decorated its edges, complemented by another one on its snout like a small rhino horn. Several more off-white shell fragments could also be seen scattered across the surface of the shield. Its brow horns were the same shape as Unovan Bouffalant, but they were gray instead of white, had white rings on them like the fossil shells instead of gold, and joined smoothly with the head shield; instead of sticking out to the side, they sharply curved in a more forward direction near the base, though each was still angled a bit towards its respective side, and then curved upwards a little less strongly towards the lethal tips. The center part of the shield, right above the forehead and between the brow horns, was also slightly domed, forming a cranial boss like a cape buffalo. The rest of the head and body shapes were largely unchanged shape-wise, except for the legs and feet being thicker, two-hoofed and more like Terrakion's legs. There was, however, a light gray rocky peak on the back hump resembling the top of a small mountain, complete with a white top like a snowy peak, along with some rocky plating on the shoulders to match. The fur was also blue roan instead of brown with a light blue-gray face, and thicker and shaggier than its modern relative, almost yak-like.

The shiny color scheme for this variant, as with some other regional variants, sported modern Bouffalant's color palette, but the headplate had a spectacular orange and red pattern like a sandstone cliff.

Gameplay Info:
Although Bouffalant has an ability that powers up recoil moves that should in theory synergize well with Head Charge, its main draw currently is Sap Sipper, which means it has no problem with setting up on and mowing down several Grass-type walls in its tier. Desvegan Bouffalant enjoys the same benefit, but with the added perk of being able to bait opponents into attempting to use a Grass attack on it since it now has a type weakness to them, because its other viable ability, Rock Head, works in conjunction with dual STAB on Head Charge and Head Smash, all of which is backed up by a frankly ridiculous attack stat. This duality means it'll be more of a challenge to predict the best way to try and stop it at any given moment, allowing for some fun mindgames that could potentially cost a careless opponent dearly. Be it Grass-immune or recoil-immune, though, this brutal bovine is otherwise a one-note beast, but a formidable one nonetheless; being a bit too slow for a proper sweep, it mainly exists to switch into and tank incoming physical damage before utterly fucking obliterating whichever poor sap was dumb enough to cross it. Its main failing is that its attack and defense are buffed at the expense of its special defense, and given that it is now doubly weak to Fighting, being hit by a single Focus Blast would be bad news Beartics for it, and even Sap Sipper sets will still have to watch out for the other three type weaknesses Rock adds to the typing. While Ground and Steel can still be countered respectively by any Ice moves it learned as a Calffure and whatever Ground or Fighting TMs it can learn, Water in particular is only countered by Wild Charge (which isn't unusable, but doesn't cover the other types that resist its STAB either), on top of bringing a lot of high-power special attacks to the table. Of note, Desvegan Bouffalant actually loses Throat Chop, the one answer its Unovan cousin has for Ghost-types, but it's able to learn Knock Off as a tutor move which is arguably even more effective - even if it would rather solve problems by simply smashing them, the added effect of hindering certain opponents that require specific items to even be viable at all would be much appreciated by something that can't afford any potential damper on its wallbreaking momentum.

Pokemon Shield: These Pokémon live in herds of about 20 individuals. Bouffalant that betray the herd will lose the hair on their heads for some reason.
I can appreciate Bouffalant from a gameplay standpoint and respect anyone who likes it as it is, but I personally can't get over its afro, especially given that it's practically its defining characteristic. To this end, I decided that for any variant of it, the 'fro just had to go, and a different means of protecting its head would have to take its place. Pulling from the weird and wild design choices of the past Paradox Pokemon, I based this variant not only on the extinct steppe bison, but also the horned dinosaur, Nasutoceratops, which has horns shaped like those of a bull already. With a ceratopsian head shield instead of an afro, this design is essentially an inverse of the first time Triceratops horns were found, since they were mistaken for those of a bison; seeing as many of the past Paradox 'mons are based on mammalian Pokemon but end up taking on dinosaurian traits, I figured this would make a fun callback to them on top of referencing a real misinterpretation from the early days of palaeontology.

While this design was originally submitted for the fossil slate, I figured that given the fact that a number of modern species can be said to have been holdovers from the ice age, including the bison itself, having it as a modern species simply stated to have evolved just before humans first appeared wouldn't have felt like too much of a stretch. Calffure meanwhile was added specifically for this slate to pad out this line and isn't based on anything deep in particular - moo moo scrunky is just bebe. :3

The Ground Owl Pokémon
With rock-hard talons that can tunnel through solid stone, it digs into the ground to make its den. This maze-like system of tunnels soon becomes home to other small Pokémon.
It gathers berries from trees around its territory and leaves them scattered around the entrances to its tunnels. It then preys on Bug-type Pokémon attracted by the berries.

Flavor/Design:
A Hoothoot adapted for life in the deserts of Desvega, it has a small, light orange-brown body with a white belly sporting dark brown spots like dirt stains; the ends of its wings also have dark brown mottling. Its legs are longer than Johtonian Hoothoot and are gray in color (the beak is gray as well), with four short toes on each foot and very large spade-like talons in an X-shape; these claws are made of black, flint-like stone, and there is a rocky spike on each wing like a thumb claw as well. It still stands on one foot to minimize contact with the heated ground. It doesn't have the brow tufts of its Johto cousin, its large amber-colored eyes being surrounded by thick black markings akin to a pair of glasses, though it does have two white feather tufts with dark brown tips poking out of the top of its head.

Stat and Gameplay Changes:
I was thinking of a more defensive build here, I switched the Speed and physical Defense stats around, and took 3 points from Special Attack to add to physical Attack to equalize the two. Unfortunately, it actually has more type weaknesses than Normal/Flying, but Rock and Flying are still good offensive types, so perhaps a Hone Claws or two could bring this thing up to par in the LC, maybe.

Flavor/Design:
In this case, the head and torso smoothly join with one another, and the standing on one leg is kept - this design is a middle-ground between Johtonian Noctowl and the unused beta design. Essentially, it has the overall shape of the beta design, but the same spade-like talons as Orrean Hoothoot, the same eyes and beak as canon!Noctowl but the brow tufts of the beta (which are white striped and tipped with dark brown), and rows of V-shaped dark brown markings like Noctowl's on the white belly as well as Noctowl's large wings, which now have two flint "claws" each. There is also a large, rocky spike on the back, shaped like a sharply pointed triangle. The color scheme is unchanged, light orange-brown with a white belly, gray beak and feet with black, stony spade-like claws in an X-shaped formation, wings edged with dark brown mottling like dirt stains, and amber-colored eyes surrounded by rings of white and dark brown, though the eyes themselves are larger and rounder, almost like a pair of flight goggles or binoculars. The tail is also shorter and dark brown in color, and shaped a bit like the head of a shovel.

Stat and Gameplay Changes:
This time around, I switched the Defense and Special Attack, but also took 10 points from Speed to add to the defense, so the physical and special defenses are equal. Then I noticed its main weak point was its attacking power, so I took 10 more points from Attack and added 5 to each offensive stat for slightly more offensive punch. Type: Flying/Rock
Abilities: Harvest/Earthmover* (Hidden Ability: Tinted Lens)
Powers up Ground-type moves by 50%. (Ground-type Steelworker clone)
Stats: 100 HP/80 ATK/96 DEF/80 SP ATK/96 SP DEF/60 SPD = 522
New Moves: Earth Power, Earthquake

Flavor/Design:
An immense, almost dinosaurian kaiju-like owl monster, this massive bird-zilla is definitely unlike the previous two stages and, if anything, looks more like Excadrill and Noctowl had a baby that in turn had a baby with Tyranitar. It stands on two legs with a short, trowel-shaped dark brown tail hanging low behind it, its digitigrade feet still sporting X-shaped feet and large spade-like flint claws, but its legs are very thick to support its stocky, upright body. Its large wings can fold around it like a cape, the outside being light brown edged with darker brown like dirt stains, but as they unfurl to unleash its Ground-type attacks, they reveal a forest-green interior along with huge muscular feathered arms with large Ursaring-like flint-clawed hands, the arms being not unlike an extinct therizinosaur in shape; the green part has several glowing yellow star-shaped markings as well. A chestplate made of flint rock is also visible, and several rocky spikes like a cartoon dinosaur run down the back. The large head resembles Noctowl's in shape, but the tufts are straighter with a white coloring and dark brown bands; the amber eyes are again larger and rounder with dark brown and white rings around them like goggles. The lower part of the face below the eyes is white, but the plumage around the rest of the head and a ruff around the neck is dark brown almost like a hood; the ruff has a dark green outer part as well like a leafy wreathe, with a few small red berries on it here and there. Finally, its beak is much larger, shaped more like Braviary's than Noctowl's.

The shiny sprites for all three stages of this line simply reverse the dark brown and light orange-tan coloring, more like an actual burrowing owl's color scheme. Archathene's shiny sprite has golden berries and a vivid sapphire blue color and cyan-colored stars on the underside of its cloak.

Gameplay Info:
This third stage adds 10 points to HP, 35 points to each offensive stat, and 10 points to Speed, allowing it to be a decently serviceable mixed tank with such STAB and psuedo-STAB moves as Diamond Cutter, Stone Edge, Brave Bird, Hurricane, Earth Power, and Earthquake, with Fire-type moves as added coverage against Ice and Steel. Of note however is that it is also capable of employing a few supporting moves such as Rototiller and Whirlwind. Its main drawback is that it has little in the way of countering half the types it's weak to, as while Fire-type moves are there to cover Steel, Rock, and Ice, and Ground against Electric, it doesn't have any useful tools against Water; while its HP is hefty enough that it can take a hit, its actual defensive stats might leave something to be desired. It does learn Roost for recovery, but if you want, you can instead run it with Harvest and a health-restoring berry to free up a moveslot for a different move to help with its offensive stats. Calm Mind or Swords Dance work fine for this, whichever you're more comfortable with!

This is another regional evolution idea that technically existed in my head prior to submitting it to this mod - it was originally meant for a little just-for-fun project involving creating an entire fakemon region based on the Hololive talents! The original intent here was just a Ground-type Hoothoot with a burrowing owl/archaeologist motif that evolved into something else instead of Noctowl, an obvious reference to Mumei Nanashi (who has an owl motif and is said to embody human civilization). Since there's already a Flying/Ground line in this mod, however, I changed its type to Rock with a Ground-type Steelworker clone instead. The Harvest ability references not only Mumei's sweet berry obsession in Minecraft, but also the importance of agriculture in early human civilization; Trace meanwhile refers to how versatile mankind is along with Archathene's interest in knowledge and discovery. Archathene's design also harkens back to large Cretaceous bird relatives such as therizinosaurs and dromaeosaurs, with D&D's Owlbear and Malfestio from Monster Hunter mixed in as well.

The original version of this sub was one of those I tried to submit for the now-defunct Regional Evolutions mod for the Gen 8 meta. Because burrowing owls are common in Nevada and the American Southwest in general, I figured it'd be perfect for Desvega! The only differences from the original version were the removal of a move that was exclusive to the original mod project and having Archathene be Flying/Rock instead of Ground/Fairy, to match Nixrow keeping its Flying/Ice type when it evolves from Desvegan Fearow.

9/18/23 Addendum: Overhauled this line's typing and movepool as per anaconja's commentary (with no more "Dream Dust"), and nerfed Archathene's offensive stats a little.

These Pachirisu are adapted for harsh city life. They use their powerful tails both to pummel evildoers and to launch themselves over gaps in the skyline.
The muscles in its limbs generate electricity - the harder it fights, the more power it can produce. It tirelessly defends the innocent no matter the cost.

Updated Type: Electric/Fighting
Updated Abilities: Justified/Iron Fist (Hidden Ability: Volt Absorb)
Updated Stats: 60 HP/90 ATK/45 DEF/70 SP ATK/45 SP DEF/95 SPD = 405

Removed Moves: Baby-Doll Eyes, Charm, Sweet Kiss, Last Resort
Replacement Moves: Quick Guard, Work Up, Detect, Sky Uppercut
New TMs: Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Protect, Revenge, Brick Break, Bounce, U-turn, Drain Punch, Low Sweep, Acrobatics, Air Slash

Flavor/Design:
A type of Pachirisu that has adapted to life in the big city, this little do-gooder is a symbol of heroism in the urban jungles of Desvega. It has light red fur like the color of Houndour's snout instead of white, and instead of blue stripes on their backs, its' is very dark gray except for the lower half of the face which remains white, with the same yellow cheek pouches as Sinnohan Pachirisu as well as hands and feet that are also yellow in color. The long tail terminates in what appears to be a cartoonish red boxing glove, and is the same yellow as the cheeks and limbs except for the red stripe up top which is connected to said glove; the three spikes on the top of the tail tip are still there, but arranged perpendicular to the tail instead of along its length, making it look like a knuckle duster. The entire top half of the head (rather than just the ears and a small stripe) is also dark gray, but there's also a black domino mask around the eyes, which are now solid white. The shiny sprite has gray fur, the same blue as regular Pachirisu on the top half of the head, yellow cheek pouches, a darker blue boxing glove and cheek pouches, and a white tail.

Stat and Gameplay Changes:
There's no need to fear, Pachirisu is here! This little guy's main strategy is to hit fast and hard, with a physical attack almost as strong as its Speed as well as Iron Fist and Justified as abilities - the former to boost punching moves including several STAB moves and the latter allowing it to switch into Dark-types before beating the ever-loving crap out of them. Aside from Electric and Fighting moves, it also knows a few Flying-, Ice-, and Fire-type moves, and can even use the Bug-type U-turn for scouting purposes or if it has to make a tactical retreat. Notably, Iron Fist makes both Ice Punch and Thunder Punch solid options for it since the former is useful against both Ground- and Flying-types that would otherwise threaten it, so while Ice Punch doesn't get STAB, and while you might still want to pack Sky Uppercut or Brick Break to beat down Steel-types, who wouldn't want a cute little squirrel sidekick that can and WILL unleash the infamous BoltBeam combo a la One-Punch Man?

Give Desvegan Pachirisu a Thunder Stone when it has 1 HP left, and it will evolve into...

The Heroic Pokémon
They leap and bound across city skylines unseen as they patrol in search of threats to their territory. Their keen senses alert them to incoming attacks, enabling them to dodge them before they even hit.
Its muscles in its tail channel so much electricity that it can move faster than the eye can follow and strike with terrific force. Formidable yet empathetic, it is a mascot of many social justice groups in Desvega.

Name origin: Pachipachi (electric crackling onomatopoeia) + Hiro ("hero" in Japanese)
Type: Electric/Fighting
Abilities: Justified/Iron Fist (Hidden Ability: Volt Absorb)
Stats: 70 HP/110 ATK/55 DEF/90 SP ATK/55 SP DEF/125 SPD = 505
Height: 2'8"
Weight: 70 lbs

New Moves: Mach Punch, Thunder Punch, Power-Up Punch, Wild Charge, Superpower

Flavor/Design:
Taller, darker, and more powerfully built than its pre-evolution, Pachiro is built much like a traditional Western superhero. It has the same large legs and long feet as Raichu, but the blue feet have fur tufts at the ankles suggesting boots, and the forearm portions of its muscular arms are also blue with matching fur tufts. The rest of the body is dark gray in color, save for the blue V-shaped stripe on its chest and the blue down its back. Its tail is still its main feature and best weapon, being much larger and more powerful, with an actual white-colored four-fingered fist resembling a cartoon glove on the tip; the rest of it is the same blue as the "boots", "gloves", and chest marking. The three knuckle-duster spikes on the tail are still there, but there are also three more spikes on the back, one on each shoulder and one between; all of these are also white in color, glowing blue-white with stored electricity. It has the same black domino mask around the eyes, but the corners have two upwards-curving spikes, the upper pair bigger than the lower, and the white eyes now have a fierce glare; the longer, but still conical ears also point straight up with a look not unlike Batman's helmet, though the lower half of the face once again stays white. The shiny sprite replaces all the blue hues with red, and changes the dark gray to brown.

Gameplay Info:
Leaning into the fast but frail sweeper angle, I added 10 points each to all stats from Unovan Pachirisu, before adding 10 more to Attack and Special Attack each and 20 more to Speed. This is a Pokémon that's as vulnerable as it is formidable in battle, its middling HP and awful defenses ensuring that it will go down to anything with priority or an even faster Speed stat, even with neutral damage. But if it can get a hit in first, it will hit HARD, and with Electric and Fighting both being excellent attacking types, that's usually all it needs to do. The same coverage as its predecessor applies, though. Of course, anything faster than Pachiro or that can get an Earthquake or a Ghost-type move in first will take it down with ease, so your best hope is to load up all your STAB moves and try to get Pachiro to take something down before it has to sacrifice itself so others can live!

This line was also submitted for the Gen 8 Regional Evolutions mod as a Unovan Pachirisu variant, and though it too didn't win, I figured something based on American superhero comics would make sense for a region based somewhere in the U.S. The original slate this was created for was for the unused type combos and that included Electric/Fighting, which gave me a golden opportunity. It was a bit hard to try and find a way to make an electric squirrel work in the same region as Emolga, but then I remembered how Eastern gray squirrels are invasive and have displaced the American red squirrel, and Castelia City doesn't have Emolga, so there you go. The obvious inspiration for this line is comic-book and cinematic superheroes, which mostly come in one of two varieties: the wacky, fantastical kind from the Golden Age which get into all kinds of wild scenarios limited only by the imagination of the writers, and the grittier, more realistic kind that took over the superhero scene from the 90's onward. Desvegan Pachirisu is more akin to the former, and Pachiro the latter, with their standard color schemes specifically borrowing somewhat from the various incarnations of DC Comics' Robin along with the grown-up version known as Nightwing. The shiny colors, respectively, reference Rocky the Flying Squirrel and, well, Squirrel Girl! XD

Knightmare Evo:

The Ruthless Pokémon
Only the fiercest, fastest Knightmare capable of charging at the head of the group consistently can evolve into Maraugine. It uses its thin but sharp blades to shred prey to bits with blinding speed.
In ancient times, this fearsome Pokemon was used as a weapon of war and a means of control by many a cruel king. It refuses to tolerate failure and will viciously attack any underling that displeases it.

Name Origin: Marauder + Régine (French for "queen")
Type: Dark/Steel
Abilities: Ambitious/Hyper Cutter (Hidden Ability: Pressure)
Stats: 90 HP/90 ATK/65 DEF/90 SP ATK/65 SP DEF/150 SPD = 550
Evolution: From Knightmare after KOing a Pokémon at a higher level than itself
Level-Up Moves: Same as Kingambit, except replace Kowtow Cleave with Lacerate*
Name: Lacerate
Type:

Category:

Base Points: 100
Power Points: 16
Accuracy: 100%
Effect: Lowers Special Defense by two stages
Distribution: Signature move of Maraugine

Notable TMs: Same as Kingambit and all other members of this family, with the exception that it cannot learn any Flying-, Fairy-, or Psychic-type moves or any moves that boost its Speed.

Flavor/Design:
This rare but amazingly beautiful harpy-like creature has anatomy that's midway between humanoid and avian; its torso is anthropoid, slender, and upright, but its legs are three-toed, digitigrade, and avian with one huge, sharp talon facing back and the other two forward; it has arms instead of wings with forearms and hands that resemble Kingambit's, and flies using a cape extending from its back and shoulders thats actually made from its long, black hair; it spreads the cape a la Batman when airborne, and when not gliding it folds it up to resemble a very long, trailing ponytail. Golden armor plating can be seen upon its breast, shoulders, waist and upper legs, and forearms, the rest of its body consisting of a dark gray torso and a dark red lower body, though there are four small, gray curved blades around the chest like external ribs. Upon each gauntlet, close to the wrist, is a small knob which can extend into a huge, sharp wrist blade like a sword; four more sword blades are also positioned around the waist like a skirt. Its neck and head are similar to those of Gardevoir, but the face is akin to Bisharp's albeit with eyelash-like black markings around thr eyes; the "helmet", meanwhile, is also made of dark red armor, and looks like an eagle's head and beak, covering most of the face with the eyes set where a bird's eyes would normally be. The helmet also has two long wing-like "ears" which are actually blades like on Knightmare's helmet, with notches on the back edge suggesting gaps between feathers; three smaller golden spikes like horns are also visible on the forehead like a crown. The shiny sprite has the same color scheme as shiny Kingambit with all colors replaced according to the rest of this family.

Despite its feminine appearance, like Kingambit, this Pokémon can be either male or female.

Gameplay Info:
Maraugine actually has less attacking power than its Paldean counterpart, but its balanced attack stats allow it to make easy use of both STAB moves like Night Slash, Dark Pulse, Iron Head, Flash Cannon, and signature move Lacerate (whose Sp Def drop would be useful for mixed sets) and coverage such as Low Sweep or X-Scissor. Its main difference compared to Kingambit, however, is that Maraugine is built like wet tissue paper despite its nine type resistances but makes up for it by being able to break the sound barrier with the nonchalance of one taking a morning jog - its Speed stat outclasses even Crowned Zacian, the fastest Steel-type in canon, and Ash-Greninja (the fastest Dark-type) even more so. This of course builds up to a physical sweeper and revenge-killer capable of getting in a first hit in almost the second it shows up at all. Hyper Cutter keeps it from having its attack power reduced even further (allowing it to more easily set up with Swords Dance), Ambitious ensures that any attempt to hobble it with status will only make it even faster still, and Pressure limits how much can be done to deal with it, allowing it to play some serious mindgames when the opposition doesn't know which ability it's packing until too late. That being said, of course, Maraugine is still very much a one-trick warrior queen that doesn't care much for self-support - so if its opponent survives its opening strike, such is its fragility that even a strong-enough neutral hit, let alone a halfway decent Fighting-type attack and especially one with priority like Mach Punch, will more or less instantly disintegrate it.

The original version of this design was originally submitted to a different mod as a standalone but I felt it fitting enough to repurpose it as a Knightmare evo since it was already part-Steel and had a humanoid motif. The original was based on Valkyries and harpies but I took it in a slightly different direction here, and now it's basically a dark version of the original that also integrates traits of the Erinyes or Furies from Greek mythology, which had avian, humanoid, and reptilian characteristics while basically existing to torment the damned. The stats being very much a super-speedy glass cannon is in line with the queen in chess being as vulnerable as it is powerful - it can move in any direction and get to anywhere it needs to in order to capture enemy units, but like any other chess piece, in the face of a counter it has no choice but to get the hell outta dodge before it gets "pawned" itself.

9/18/23 Addendum: MASSIVELY nerfed/evened out the offensive stats and lowered the KO threshold for the signature move as per Stone Bold and anaconja's commentary. Queenly Majesty has also been changed to Hyper Cutter.
