RU Gorebyss

Overview
########

As arguably the best Pokemon with access to both Shell Smash and Baton Pass, Gorebyss has a solid niche in the lower tiers. Shell Smash turns the right Pokemon into an unstoppable juggernaut capable of sweeping teams, and Gorebyss has exactly what it needs to be effective: decent bulk, a good Water typing, and just enough Speed.
However, Gorebyss is pretty one-dimensional and very predictable at what it does, not to mention that its Speed, while enough to do its Shell Smash + Baton Pass shenanigans, leaves it slower than all the common Taunt users. Phazers are also problematic for any Baton Pass user and Gorebyss is no exception as it struggles to do enough damage to some of them.

Bulky SmashPass
########
name: Bulky SmashPass
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Substitute
move 4: Scald
ability: Swift Swim
item: White Herb
evs: 252 HP / 24 Def / 232 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========

Shell Smash is one of the best boosting moves in the game, doubling the Speed and attacking stats of its user, and in combination with Baton Pass, it can easily lead to a sweep. Substitute is to avoid status moves, Clear Smog, and Dragon Tail from Slowking, and is very useful to get a clean and safe Baton Pass, especially to a frail Pokemon.
Scald is in the last slot as a reliable STAB move with an handy burn chance that can grant some setup opportunities; it also does decent amounts of damage to Rhyperior which is one of the most common phazers in the tier.

Set Details
========

The Speed investment allows Gorebyss to outrun uninvested Golbat at +0 and positive natured base 80 Choice Scarf users such as Braviary at +2 to so it can use Baton Pass before they can do anything. The remaining EVs go in HP and Defense to take advantage of Gorebyss's typing and Shell Smash against some weak physical attackers such as Gligar and Golbat. They also guarantee that Adamant Rhyperior and Quiet Slowking will never break Gorebyss's Substitute in one hit with Dragon Tail, and that uninvested Druddigon only has a 46% chance of doing so. White Herb is the only item to consider as it lets the receiver take as little damage as possible while performing the Baton Pass.

Usage Tips
========

Gorebyss should use Shell Smash on weak walls such as Gligar and Alomomola as they can't really touch it. It can also easily set a Substitute up on the latter as the only way it can damage you is Toxic. Choice-locked Fire-types such as Emboar and Delphox also provide good opportunities to set up a Substitute and get a Shell Smash off, but be careful as their attacks can easily break Gorebyss's Substitute. Use Substitute on a predicted status move, against Dragon Tail users, and Clear Smog Gastrodon to possibly get a clean pass.

Team Options
========

Almost every wallbreaker appreciates a Shell Smash boost, and Exploud is one of the best choices as it can annihilate the tier with boosted Boomburst and has decent overall bulk that allows it to sponge priority moves not named Mach Punch. Delphox is another good choice as it can receive Shell Smash with ease against Grass-type Pokemon, has good coverage with its STAB moves, and resists Mach Punch. However, it is weak to Sucker Punch, but that can easily be played around with Substitute. Virizion has amazing bulk and can easily receive its boosts against the bulky Water-types Gorebyss lures. It can also set up further if it needs to. Sigilyph is another good choice as it has amazing coverage, can hold a Life Orb without losing HP, is immune to entry hazards, and can decimate everything with Stored Power. Dual screen support from Meowstic-M, Cresselia, and Bronzong can help while setting up. The latter can also set up Stealth Rock to aid a sweep. Cobalion can switch into Whimsicott and specially defensive Drapion, which both deal with this set easily and can threaten them with a STAB move or simply set Stealth Rock up.

Offensive SmashPass
########
name: Offensive SmashPass
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Hydro Pump
move 4: Ice Beam
ability: Swift Swim
item: White Herb
evs: 24 HP / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========

Shell Smash is arguably the best boosting move in the game, and in combination with Baton Pass, it can easily lead to a sweep. This Gorebyss set aims to hit hard before using Baton Pass, so Hydro Pump is preferred over Scald. Surf is usable as it is more accurate than Hydro Pump and more powerful than Scald, but it misses the guaranteed OHKO on specially defensive Drapion at +2 with Stealth Rock on the field. Ice Beam has good coverage with Hydro Pump, hitting Grass-type Pokemon and Druddigon so that it can't easily phaze against this set.

Set Details
========

The Speed EVs allow Gorebyss to outrun max Speed Jolteon at +2, allowing it to Baton Pass or use Hydro Pump before it takes you out. Gorebyss will also outspeed minimum Speed Golbat before the boost. Maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest nature is used to let Gorebyss hit as hard as possible, and the remaining EVs are pumped into HP to give Gorebyss more setup opportunities, as they let it live a Life Orb X-Scissor from Durant and a Thunderbolt from non-Life Orb Mismagius. White Herb is the preferred item to let the receiver take as little damage as possible when Baton Passed and to let it take priority moves more easily.

Usage Tips
========

Gorebyss should use Shell Smash on weak walls such as Gligar and bulky Water-types such as Alomomola as they can't really touch it. It should always attack against phazers such as Druddigon so Gorebyss can do something before the boost is removed, as with the Special Attack investment, it actually has a shot at OHKOing specially defensive Drapion and physically defensive Druddigon with the appropriate move after Stealth Rock damage. Ice Beam also gets a guaranteed OHKO on Whimsicott. Gorebyss should always Baton Pass against a Sucker Punch user like Zoroark, and when Gorebyss is low on health. It should also use Baton Pass if you think the opponent will go to a counter such as Slowking or Abomasnow.

Team Options
========

Exploud is an amazing receiver as it can annihilate the tier with boosted Boomburst, but its weakness to Mach Punch can be a problem if Hitmonlee is around. Delphox can easily receive
the boost against Grass-type Pokemon, has good coverage with its STAB moves, and resists Mach Punch. It can also get around its Sucker Punch weakness using
Substitute. Sigilyph has amazing coverage, can hold a Life Orb, and can decimate everything with a 140 Base Power Stored Power. Virizion is another good choice thanks to its amazing bulk and can easily receive its boosts against the bulky Water-types Gorebyss lures and even boost again if possible. Dual screen support from Meowstic-M, Cresselia, and Bronzong can help while setting up. The latter can also set Stealth Rock up, guaranteeing the OHKO on specially defensive Drapion with +2 Hydro Pump.

Other Options
########

An offensive Shell Smash set is usable, but faces competition from Omastar which is bulkier, faster, and more powerful. Its Rock typing also gives it more setup opportunities against Pokemon such as Choice-locked Flying-type Pokemon. Gorebyss can also opt to use Choice items but it is horribly outclassed if doing so. Slowking is a better bulky Choice Specs user, and Clawitzer is a bit faster and a lot more powerful with its coverage moves, so the only thing it has over the two is Swift Swim. Gorebyss can also pass Amnesia and Iron Defense boosts, but those aren't nearly as useful as the boost Shell Smash gives for most teams.

Checks & Counters
########

**Phazers** Roar Druddigon and Whirlwind Drapion can switch into any move from the Bulky SmashPass set and phaze it out. Dragon Tail users such as Slowking, Dragalge, and Druddigon itself can also phaze the Offensive SmashPass set as it doesn't use Substitute.

**Haze** Haze from defensive Cofagrigus and Golbat goes through Substitute and removes any boosts Gorebyss might have acquired.

**Taunt** Taunt from Drapion and Whimsicott can prevent Gorebyss from setting up or using Baton Pass after a boost, though they can't take powerful attacks from the offensive set.

**Encore** Whimsicott and Liepard can Encore Gorebyss into Shell Smash or Substitute to prevent it from doing anything, but must be wary of Ice Beam and a Water-type STAB respectively.

I added Hydro Pump and Ice Beam to the main set after a bit of testing
Also idk if offensive shell smash should be a set as i feel it is outclassed by omastar

Change the nature of the first set to timid and give it 232 speed to outspeed positive scarf base 80s at +2

make offensive smash pass the second set and use the exact same evs you have now for that set but w/modest instead of bold
The spread i have in set details right?

Add Virizion to Team Options of both sets as another way to beat bulky Water-types
Choice Specs in OO
Add Liepard to the Encore section, but note that it's at even more risk than Whimsicott is
Looks good otherwise galbia

"evs: 252 HP / 24 SpA / 232 Spe"

sorry, i messed up on that spread (i honestly thought i had spa instead of hp there...), hp and spa should be swapped; otherwise, it misses on some really important kos that i told you about earlier (defensive drudd + drapion), which kinda defeats the purpose of using offensive smashpass

don't forget to mention dragon tail dragalge in c&c like i asked before

haze cofagrigus should also go in c&c as well
I'll mention it in the write up but i'll be sure to point out that Dragon Tail can't break Gorebyss' Substitute. Haze users and Cofagrigus will be mentioned too and this should be ready tomorrow anyway

Ok this is ready for the third check. I made a note near the second spread as i thing a straightforward 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spd would be better as 24 HP really does nothing to improve Gorebyss' bulk

Ice Beam has good coverage with Hydro Pump, hitting Grass-type Pokemon and Druddigon so that it can't easily phaze against this set.

Set Details
========

The Speed EVs allow Gorebyss to outrun max Speed Jolteon at +2
,(AC) allowing you to Baton Pass or use Hydro Pump before it takes you out. Gorebyss will also outspeed minimum Speed Golbat before the boost. Maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest nature is used to let Gorebyss hit as hard as possible, and the remaining EVs are pumped into HP to give Gorebyss more setup opportunities as they let it live a Life Orb X-Scissor from Durant and a Thunderbolt from non-Life Orb Mismagius. White Herb is the preferred item to let the receiver take as little damage as possible during the pass and to let it live priority moves with more easeily.

Usage Tips
========

Gorebyss should use Shell Smash on weak walls such as Gligar and bulky Water
(remove space)-types such as Alomomola as they can't really touch it. You should always attack against phazers such as Druddigon so Gorebyss can do something before the boost is canceled, as with the Special Attack investment, you can actually have a shot at OHKOing specially defensive Drapion and physically defensive Druddigon with the appropriate move after Stealth Rock damage. Ice Beam also gets a guaranteed OHKO on Whimsicott. You should always Baton Pass against a Sucker Punch user like Zoroark, and when Gorebyss is low on health. You should also use Baton Pass if you think the opponent will go to a counter such as Slowking or Abomasnow.

Team Options
========

Exploud is an amazing receiver as it can annihilate the tier with boosted Boomburst, but its weakness to Mach Punch can be a problem if Hitmonlee is around. Delphox can receive with more ease against Grass-type Pokemon, has good coverage with its STAB moves, and resists Mach Punch. It can also get around its Sucker Punch weakness using Susbtitute. Sigilyph has amazing coverage, can hold a Life Orb, and can decimate everything with a 140 BP Stored Power. Virizion is another good choice thanks to its amazing bulk and can easily receive its boosts against the bulky Water
(remove space)-types Gorebyss lures and even boost again if possible. Dual Screen support from Meowstic, Cresselia, and Bronzong can help while setting up. The latter can also set Stealth Rock up, guaranteeing the OHKO on specially defensive Drapion with +2 Hydro Pump.

Other Options
########

An offensive Shell Smash set is usable but faces competition from Omastar who is bulkier, faster, and more powerful. Its Rock typing also gives it more setup opportunities against choice
(remove space)-locked Flying-type Pokemon. Gorebyss can also opt to use choice items but it is horribly outclassed at doing so. Slowking is a better bulky Choice Specs user and Clawitzer is a bit faster and a lot more powerful with its coverage moves,(AC) so the only thing it has is Swift Swim. Gorebyss can also pass Amnesia and Iron Defense boosts, but those aren't nearly as useful as the boost Shell Smash gives for most teams.

Checks & Counters
########

**Phazers** Roar Druddigon and Whirlwind Drapion can switch into any move from the Bulky Smashpass set Gorebyss has and phaze it out. Dragon Tail users such as Slowking, Dragalge, and Druddigon itself can also phaze the Offensive Smashpass set as it doesn't use Substitute.

**Haze** Haze from defensive Cofagrigus and Golbat goes through Substitute and removes any boost Gorebyss might have acquired.

**Taunt** Taunt from Drapion and Whimsicott can prevent Gorebyss from setting up or use Baton Pass after a boost,
(add space)though they can't take powerful attacks from the Offensive set.

**Encore** Whimsicott and Liepard can Encore Gorebyss into Shell Smash or Substitute to prevent it from doing anything
,(AC) but they must be careful about Ice Beam and a Water-type STAB respectively.

Overview

As arguably the best Pokemon with access to both Shell Smash and Baton Pass,(AC) Gorebyss has a solid niche in the lower tiers. Shell Smash turns the right Pokemon into an unstoppable juggernaut capable of sweeping teams,(AC) and Gorebyss has exactly what it needs to be effective: decent bulk, a good Water typing, and just enough Speed to be effective.
However, Gorebyss is pretty one-dimensional and very predictable at what it does, not to mention that its Speed, while enough to do its Shell Smash + Baton Pass shenani
ngans, leaves it slower than all the common Taunt users. Phazers are also problematic for any Baton Pass user and Gorebyss is no exception as it struggles to do enough damage to some of them.
Bulky SmashPass

move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Substitute
move 4: Scald

Moves
========

Shell Smash is one of the best boosting moves in the game, doubling the Speed and attacking stats of its user
,(AC) and in combination with Baton Pass, it can easily lead to a sweep. Substitute is to avoid status moves, Clear Smog, and Dragon Tail from Slowking,(AC) and is very useful to get a clean and safe Baton Pass, especially to a frail Pokemon.
Scald is in the last slot as a reliable STAB move
s with an handy burn chance that can grant some setup opportunities; it also does decent amounts of damage to Rhyperior who which is one of the most common phazers in the tier.
Set Details
========

The Speed investment allows Gorebyss to outrun uninvested Golbat at +0 and positive natured base 80 Choice Scarf users such as Jolly Choice Scarf Braviary at +2 to so it can use Baton Pass before they can do anything. The remaining EVs go in HP and Defense to take advantage of Gorebyss's typing and Shell Smash against some weak physical attackers such as Gligar and Golbat. They also guarantee that Adamant 16 Attack (<- idk what this is) Rhyperior and Quiet Slowking will never break Gorebyss's Substitute in one hit,(AC) and that uninvested Druddigon only has a 46% chance of doing so. White Herb is the only item to consider as it lets the receiver take as little damage as possible while performing the Baton Pass.
Usage Tips
========

Gorebyss should use Shell Smash on weak walls such as Gligar and Alomomola as they can't really touch it. You It can also easily set a Substitute up on the latter as the only way it has to touch can damage you is Toxic. Choice-locked Fire-types such as Emboar and Delphox are also provide good opportunities to set up a Substitute and get a Shell Smash off, but be careful as their attacks can easily break Gorebyss's Substitute. Use Substitute on a predicted status move, against Dragon Tail users, and Clear Smog Gastrodon to possibly get a clean pass.

Almost every wallbreaker appreciates a Shell Smash boost
,(AC) and Exploud is one of the best choices as it can annihilate the tier with boosted Boomburst and has decent overall bulk that allows it to sponge priority moves not named Mach Punch. However, it is weak to Sucker Punch, but that can easily be solved played around with by Substitute. Virizion has amazing bulk and can easily receive its boosts against the bulky Water-types Gorebyss lures. It can also set up further if it needs to. Dual screen support from Meowstic-M, Cresselia, and Bronzong can help while setting up. The latter can also set up Stealth Rock to aid a sweep.
